Genuinely don't know how I didn't know about this place sooner, but I will be a repeat and loyal customer from now on! I've ordered Fuel America two days in a row because of how good their matcha, fruit bowls, and croissants are. The matcha is just amazing, they have a ton of flavor selections and milk options, I was so happy there wasn't an up charge for oat milk unlike other places I've ordered from. Their fruit bowls are SO fresh, I was truly shocked at how good their berries were, no soggy or mushy ones. To me, I feel like they definitely put care into making the bowls and they are so beautifully put together as well. And last but certainly not least, the croissants are absolutely delicious. What is the purpose of a coffee shop? In a city teeming with students and young professionals, one might say it is to provide the necessary resources - caffeine, food, working space, and WiFi - to support the ambitions of the community members. The aptly named Fuel America fulfills this purpose, offering ample seating, an array of drinks, and light bites. The coffee is perfectly good. The one food item I have tried, a chicken pesto sandwich, was adequate for a working lunch but nothing special in terms of taste. I've come here during peak hours and have reliably been able to find seating. I feel like I have been taken. I think their prices are steep; 11.50 for a marginal chicken sandwich and 5.00 for a an ice coffee. I thought for that price they should give me a full blown sandwich versus a few pieces of chicken, one slice of mozzarella cheese, on a small piece of flat bread. It is basically a coffee shop with a make-shift sandwich bar to try to Appeal to the people who are looking for food. this place is not what I would recommend for food. Cute coffee shop in Brighton. Lots of seating so perfect spot to meet friends, study, or grab a bite to eat. I ordered a bagel and latte both of which I enjoyed very much. I also got a side of their jam which was sooooo gooooood. I ordered quite fast so didn't really look at the menu in depth however they seemed to have your basic staples for both drinks and food. They have a parking lot which is rare in the city so I was happy. It is small so beware parking might be tough. I'd come back when in the area! read more

How far enjoyed Fuel America. I haven't been back to this location in a couple years, but it was nice to get back to Brighton. I ordered a flat white, but for some reason, it came out lukewarm. Definitely drinkable and them serving it in a mug is always my preferred way to receive my hot coffee drinks. The restrooms could've used some oversight. No paper towels available and the doorhandle was absolutely nasty AF. Ended up having to take toilet paper to open the door and not touch the handle. Wouldn't be hard to do a visual check on the bathroom from time to time. But no Gen Z ever wants to do that. Outside of that, it's a relaxing place. The best part about it is there's plenty of parking in the area at no cost as well as some spaces adjacent to the building. read more

Super friendly staff working here! And truly there's never really a line here. Hop up and order! Lots of people bring their laptops to work from home here so it's pretty quiet. They don't play music either fyi. Lots of seating though and great natural light from the large window so I can see how it's a popular spot to work from! The parking situation here is to either park in the side lot (which has 5 or 6 spots) or find street parking. I never really have an issue finding parking. I ordered a ham and cheese on a croissant and it was pretty good! Nothing special but it came out super quick and it was a great bite to hold me over! read more

Stopped in here with a friend to grab a snack before getting on a bus. My friend is a local and comes here all the time, and I understand why. He swears by the coffees and says there's nothing here he didn't like. It has a cool vibe and looks like a great place to sit and do work. Despite it being Easter Sunday, the place was bustling and the tables nearly full with people on their laptops. It seems quiet and an ideal spot when you've got to get away from your desk. I came here on a Saturday morning to get work done and hang out. There is plenty of seating, which is nice. I ordered an almond milk cortado. I thought it was fine, but the flavor of the espresso tasted slightly sweet to me. I'm not sure if it was the type of beans used, but it was a bit unexpected! The milk was steamed really well, though. I also ordered a farmers pan sandwich on ciabatta, which came with ham, egg, cheese, red pepper pesto, and sriracha mayo. I really liked the taste of it, but I wish it had been toasted longer since the inside of the sandwich was still cold. They don't have a full kitchen, so I understand the fast/casual vibe with the food. I took my laptop out when I got here to do some work and connected to the Wi-Fi, but after about an hour my laptop disconnected and I got the "No Internet" message, so I'm wondering if it timed out. Despite sitting all the way in the back as far away from the door as possible, I thought the cafe was really chilly. The service here is the best. The staff are really nice and friendly. Even when they are busy, they're understanding and focused on the task at hand. If I lived closer, I definitely would spend more time here. read more

My prayers have been answered!! Just when I was starting to give up hope of finding a cafe with comfy seats and WiFi, I'm so glad I found Fuel - a place with more than sufficient space for work, read, chat with friends, and generally spread out. When I came here on a Saturday morning for a writing session with a friend, I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of seats and everyone being pretty respectful/considerate of keeping conversations to a manageable level (I would still bring earphones). Also lots of seating configurations - a communal table in the front, some booths, and a few armchairs. I got a tea and a blueberry muffin (will need to try some of the other food options next time, the açaí bowls looked generous with the toppings). Muffin was delicious, came chock full of blueberries, loved the streusel top. Can't say how good/not good the coffee here is. It's a bigger space so it got a little chilly at times but nothing a down jacket and some extra layers can't fix. The inside is spacious with great light fixtures and a slightly industrial feel. We ordered an iced chai and a dirty chai to drink, and to eat we got the farmers pan sandwich and the dragon bowl. Service was friendly and speedy! The drinks were just right on the chai flavor, and the dirty one def had a strong espresso kick. The farmers pan sandwich was lovely with red pepper pesto, some spice, and melty cheese covering the ham and egg within the ciabatta. The dragon bowl was more like a breakfast dessert - in the best way. Pitaya sorbet base topped with goodies like Nutella, granola, banana, blueberries, coconut, and cocoa nibs. Inside: super cozy easily a great study spot with plenty of seating options. Service: line moves quick, food and coffee came out fairly quickly too in less than 10 minutes! I came around 11 am though so not sure how the morning rush is! Food: I got a honey latte hot with oat milk and my boyfriend got iced coffee and a bacon egg and cheese on a crossaint (they let you choose the bread type). There are many ways to make the drinks and food adjusted to your liking based on fairy or non dairy type, add ons, etc. Taste: Fresh, hot and thankfully not greasy for the breakfast sandwhich for the acai bowl it was fresh delicious and flavors were a great combo! The acai is incredibly sweet, tasting almost like sorbet, packed with toppings. The smoothies are refreshing and a good size for the price. Muffins are fresh and fluffy. The farmer's omelette sandwich is delicious, the omelette is the fluffiest I've ever had and the sriracha mayo complements it perfectly. Though they forgot to add it the last time I ordered it. I missed you, my yummy Sriracha mayo. Also, the sandwich comes with ham and the staff is amazing enough to substitute it for me for something vegetarian at no extra cost. Like, who does that?! I've always heard, if you want to substitute, it'll cost extra. I hope other places take inspiration and follow suit. They have a lot of cool varieties of lattes on their specials board. The tiramisu, raspberry, PB and J, etc. But they make all of them with artificial syrups. Why, Fuel? I'm sure you can do better. Went to Fuel America in Brighton this morning. Service was lovely - the woman who helped us at the counter was very nice. 5 stars for the people. However, the food was abhorrent (see attached). I ordered a gluten free breakfast sandwich and it was a disaster. It was inedible. I could not eat any of it. Sandwich was falling apart, bread was barely toasted, and the cheese square must have been 3D printed it looked so fake. Coffee is always good here, but food was quite a miss. Sad that I spent $10 on a sandwich that was not fit to eat and enjoy. Will go back for the coffee, but will save my time and money (and stomach) from the food. read more

I know this place is an adored BC study spot, but is it sad that I just came here for the first time three years out of graduation?? L O L Came here with a friend for dinner and had an overall average café experience. Nothing to complain about but nothing mind-blowing either! I ordered a BLT sandwich, which I found to average. Portion size was pretty good though--I can imagine being able to hold me over for a few hours of studying if I were to come here. The amount of salt in the Nutella(?) topping made it inedible. The bottom part of the brownie(?) was OK--good texture and tasted buttery, but we couldn't enjoy it without being nervous about hitting more salt. If you're looking for somewhere to get work done, you can definitely get it done here. I've had problems getting seating before, but you'll just have to sit close by to strangers. Nice casual breakfast spot with the usual BC crowds and residents in the area. Somewhat packed most of the time and pretty hippest decor inside . Ordered a hot ginger tea for a severe cold which helps me a lot going through the work day. Also ordered an avocado toast which comes with salad and dressing on top. I come here to work. Mostly, this place rocks! Good coffee, reasonable eats, spacious cafe space - it's got all of the major perks. I've only held back on that fifth star due to some inconsistencies: Sometimes (e.g., today), Fuel America is rather crowded and stuffy, and the music volume can be inhospitable to work. I can't fault them for the crowds. But the stuffiness is the result of either setting the temperature too high or an under-performing HVAC system. Many cafes do a better job on this front, and Fuel should too. Concerning music volume, I suppose that this is a matter of personal and business preferences. I'd prefer that the baristas not crank the music when I'm trying to get work done. Maybe management has a different vision for their cafe and its patrons? read more

I literally never do Yelp reviews but I had to say it. That was one of the worst breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. Bland, dry, pathetic. The bagel was toasted yet somehow instead of becoming toasted, it was just this starchy stale crumbly garbage. Sausage patty was dry and tasted like depression, egg was clearly some microwave frozen crap, topped with a single slice of flavorless cheese. I really don't know how you can screw up the simplest possible sandwich, but they did. This bagel was a disgrace to all of bagelkind. I think it was begging me to just let it die. I would've put the other half out of its misery in the trash, but the other fun perk of this place is that it's kinda expensive for no reason. The coffee was coffee. Nice job. I chose to write this review of Fuel while enjoying my ham, brie, and fig(plus secret arugula) to distract me a little bit from eating so this experience will last longer. Omg. So good. For those of you who didn't know, fig spread tastes like jelly--sweet and delicious--and you can't go wrong adding brie to a sandwich. Anyway, about Fuel. My friend works there, but I've only been in a couple of times since they opened last summer. The decor is kind of urban hipster industrial. They sell diner mugs, whole bean coffee, and loose leaf tea. Their lattes all seem to come out with a design in the foam. There is always sunlight pouring in when I've ventured over there, which has been mid-afternoon. I've consumed a few of the "tonics," which are fruit and mint-infused soda waters with juice--a delightfully refreshing beverage if you're not jonesing for caffeine. I've had an iced tea, too, which was tasty. They brew locally-sourced MEM teas. I was curious about them since I've currently been on a loose-leaf tea kick and the guy behind the register gave me a sample of the chai. I've also tried the ricotta toast (a huge hunk of bread with ricotta, pumpkin seeds and honey...WHAT?) and my aforementioned sandwich, which comes with a surprise side of spicy pepper. I may or may not have had some roasted beets snuck in as a side. Yum. I love places that include a little edible garnish. At $6.40 for a freshly made sandwich with what tastes like all fresh ingredients, you can't go wrong. I abstained from purchasing a beet and pickle sandwich from 1369 yesterday because it was pre-made and cost more. For under $10 (assuming you skip dessert...which might be hard to do if you like croissants, cupcakes, or whoopie pies...FYI, Fuel appears to also be a bakery), you can escape with a healthy, tasty lunch that will leave you satisfied, yet contently wanting more. read more

I never leave reviews but this experience has forced me to. I ordered and paid for a pour over, which was probably my mistake ordering this from a chain. I watched them "pour over" the coffee from a machine. There was residue from the prior coffee in the machine from the start. At the end they poured the little bit of coffee left (water mixed with ground beans) through a strainer (that had old beans in it) into the cup. I asked them if this is what they consider pour over and they said they used to actually hand pour but now use a machine. If this is the case, it shouldn't be offered anymore. I took a tiny sip of the cloudy coffee and it tasted like burnt water. Sad waste of time and $6. read more

I came here as a newbie at 8:30am and snagged a ballin' seat by the window. If you are lucky enough to also sit here on at the wooden bar tool by the window, you're productivity will soar through the roof. It does get packed as the morning progresses, but it understandable. The espresso is great and they offer both soy and almond milk. The food is pretty good too, not many vegan options as far as for savory dishes, but there are a ton of sweet dishes for breakfast like the Memphis Toast or some pastries. The sandwiches and salads are modifiable and super, super yummy. The music is also pretty low key. This place would get a fourth star if there were just a little more options for my vegan ways, but otherwise I highly recommend Fuel for a day of weekend work. read more
