Croissant Breakfast Sandwich and hot latte
    Drashti T.

It's always a fun time at Tatte. They have great selection of breakfast and pastry. I got the croissant breakfast sandwich with sunny side up egg. It was very flavorful with the avocado being so fresh. The croissant was buttery and crispy. The latte hit the spot with very pretty decorative art. The service was very fast and crowded atmosphere which was expected.

Tatte is that popular chain of breakfast and brunch cafes you see around Boston, known for their wide variety of pastries, salads, and heartier dishes. The place itself is usually quite spacious, designed with an airy, French-inspired feel that often includes countertop seating and plenty of tables. We stopped in and tried a matcha latte and a hot chocolate. The matcha latte was good, it had a nice, smooth consistency and wasn't overly sweet. I will say it didn't have quite as strong or pronounced a matcha taste as I personally prefer, but it was still a pleasant drink. The hot chocolate was similar; it was fine and comforting, but more on the milky side without a very rich, deep chocolate flavor. It's a reliable spot with a great atmosphere for meeting someone or getting some work done. While the specific drinks we had were mild, their real strength seems to be in their beautiful, house-made pastries and the overall vibe of their cafes. It's easy to see why they've grown so much since starting as a single farmers market stand.

I've been wanting to try breakfast at Tatte and it was delicious! Tatte makes the most delicious pastries and treats and their breakfast is equally good. I really liked the traditional Shakshuka. Two eggs poached in a savory spiced tomato and pepper sauce. I loved it and can't wait to try more dishes!

We went early on a Sunday morning probably 30 mins after they opened. There were already a few customers there but within 45 mins or so it was packed and hard to get a table! We enjoyed everything we ordered. The potato and leek quiche (soft and well flavored) which came with the simplest but tastiest side salad - lettuce and pickled cabbage. The avocado croissant sandwich with over medium eggs. The sour cherry and cheese Danish and finally an iced pistachio latte. Special call out to the latte because Tatte always makes their syrups/mixes in house. It's actual pistachio and not some artificial essence BS. Hence, Tatte like Latte! Perfect ambiance for a Sunday morning. The cozy quiet of a chill Sunday with a slight buzz of a cafe that's coming alive. Blissful.

So Tatte recently started serving dinner. I think they are still in a bit of the trial period, because the menu online does not reflect the menu in the store, they had tableside service for a while, but then took it away, etc... The food was pretty good. The mezze platter was well worth the money, and came with a very fluffy pita bread. We thought the lasagna was only so so, but the Aleppo, chicken rice, halloumi salad, and chicken pita were all delicious. It's interesting that they turn a lot of the lights off to make it a little bit more dinner like and romantic. I wish they had more of the lights on, but that's just my personal preference.

"It's what's on the inside.." Tiramisu made mostly of air @ Tatte near Chestnut Hill

Tatte is a new-ish chain of bakery and lunch spots, that first popped up in Boston. They are a good space for sandwich + salad or an early morning espresso + croissant. Newton has a sizeable room with abundant tables. Splendid ambience. It is a bright and quite loud dining room. Bakery has variety of great tasting breakfast and lunch items, dishes and sweet treats. Get there early for selection.. The tiramisu was kind of light, but well made. Items are made and boxed to-go. Review: 5

I tried the Shakshuka lamb meatball, and it was so delicious; the lamb wasn't overpowering, and the taste was just perfect. I also tried the Meze breakfast, and it didn't look so appetizing, but it was delicious; the roasted shishito peppers were a surprise, and the bagel. I just didn't like their sausage breakfast sandwich; the breakfast sandwich tasted better.

Yum! And if you have a gluten allergy, there are lots of choices...meals AND sweets. I had a chai latte that hit the spot and enjoyed the delicious spices in their version. I also nibbled on a giant (gluten free) raisin oatmeal cookie. This place is big and has seating at a counter, at a coffee bar, or tables.

    Where's the short rib?

The pastries are OK, but this review is about lunch. I ordered a 'short rib grilled cheese' sandwich. No meat inside, barely a few flecks if any at all. I expect more for the $15 I was charged. Maybe they gave me the wrong sandwich? OK, then it was inept service - I was clearly charged for the short rib sandwich, so that must have been entered, and given the slow service (amplified during a fairly busy lunch service). I wouldn't go and ask for a replacement. I won't go back, and why should I? There are so many good lunch places in Newton Center.

Tatte is usually a solid choice if you're looking for a bite in Newton. The seating area is pretty massive -- yet it somehow is always filled up (probably a testament to their consistently good food!). I ordered an ice tea and turkey avocado sandwich. Both were fantastic -- the sandwich had a lot more taste than I expected, and I would definitely recommend it to someone who isn't sure about what to order. My only suggestion would be for this location to make their entry way and ordering process more streamlined. There was a disorganized crowd of people waiting to order which led to some frustration by employees. Overall a great experience here!

Tatte always delivers consistent solid food. The salmon bowl was excellent - surprisingly spiced and piping hot. The shakshuka is always fun and interesting. Only complaint is that the rice and bread were not as warm as we wanted. Food was served quickly given how busy they were. Beautiful outdoor seating although always heavily contested!

    The offensive, rigid, half-brownie.
    Benjamin H.

This place is declining. Staff seems indifferent, service is slow. Today, I ordered a halva-chocolate brownie. From among the heaping display of brownies, the server managed to find the one hardened and under-sized one. It was literally 1/2 the size of the others and rigid. I ask for a swap and he obliged. Why choose this one defective one to pass off to me? Did he not notice? (Bad.) Did he not care? (Also bad.) Was he deliberately trying to pass off the non-sales-worthy one on me? (Worst.)

Girls night out with my friend and we decided to stop at Tatte in Newton Centre for dessert. Gorgeous space, good service, and we absolutely loved the cappuccino and the chocolate mousse! Will be back.

    Great pastry selection to go.

Got the quiche for takeout, and it was very burned. The crust was black. I'm surprised the let it out of the kitchen.

First, the menu is extensive, like Cheesecake Factory extensive. He got the Israeli breakfast sub vegan kofta kebabs for the tuna and I got the vegetable shakshuka. The Israeli plate is a cornucopia of items, the pics don't do it justice. The plate was bigger than his head. He was in heaven, mmmmm-ing and ohhhing as he ate. I had the shakshuka. Now, I make this at home and have eaten it at numerous restaurants. I know good shakshuka. It was divine. The perfect amount of heat, eggs were properly runny, and the veggies were a perfect balance of crunch and spring. An espresso vanilla bean hurricane, was a delightful addition to the rest of our lunch. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The cafe interior was utilitarian and well maintained. The staff delivering food were attentive to other guests needs as they walked by. All in all, excellent food and experience. I look forward to returning.

I'll miss the "old" Pressed with their flavorful sandwiches and excellent order management.

We also got the gluten free pasta carbonara (great that they have so many gluten free options for pasta and pizza! major plus), pepperoni pizza (thin crust, very nice crunch), and a bolognese (also good, just a little salty). Also appreciated the customer service. I needed to heat up a bottle for my infant, and they went and got me a bowl of hot water. They also moved some chairs out of the way initially so that we could navigate the restaurant better, and were generally on top of service throughout the night. Really appreciated it!

My son ordered the spacatelli al pesto, but he was mistakenly given spacatelli bolognese. He prefers not to eat meat. We sent that back and ten minutes later he received his correct order. There's almost something cozy about a place like this. Knotty P. has all the diner signs: worn counter, people yapping, the waitress taking orders non-stop, booths aren't huge, aisles are tiny (good luck getting to your seat) and the special scrape sound of the large metal spatula touching the steel flattop. If you don't mind sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with the regulars, then the counter is your spot. The only 2 seats available were at the counter and we snagged them. The breakfast potatoes are exactly what you want them to be: crispy-edges and golden- these have a little heat kick- not too much- but just enough to keep you going for another bite. As non-meat eaters, we appreciated how the cook keeps the sausages in their own territory (something is something I guess) from the omelettes, pancakes, etc. Then there's the energy- fast and a little loud in the best way. And right in the middle of it, is Ileana who has that special spark and every beat, timed.
