We picked this place on a whim since we've always seen it but never stopped by. It's good! Bread/olive oil was great to start-- crunchy crust, fluffy center. We also got the gluten free pasta carbonara (great that they have so many gluten free options for pasta and pizza! major plus), pepperoni pizza (thin crust, very nice crunch), and a bolognese (also good, just a little salty). Also appreciated the customer service. I needed to heat up a bottle for my infant, and they went and got me a bowl of hot water. They also moved some chairs out of the way initially so that we could navigate the restaurant better, and were generally on top of service throughout the night. Really appreciated it! read more

Had a 7:15 PM reservation for Mother's Day, and my wife's birthday. Drove almost 2 hours to MIDA for special meal with my wife, son, and daughter-in-law. Immediately seated and waiter(didn't say is name) stated they were busy today and number of items unavailable - no pizza dough(no pizzas at all), no marinated olives, no grilled bread with mussels dish, no ciabatta toast with pesto dish. We ordered drinks, and one came quickly. had to ask another wait staff for remaining drinks 10 minutes later. Ordered appetizers, then placed main order. 15 minutes go by, and I see three dishes under heating lamp. Five minutes later those three dishes and another were brought to our table. My paccheri bolangnese was cold, and prepared with spacatelli pasta - waiter neglected to state out of all pastas but spacatelli. My wife's roasted chicken was very dry(too long under heating lamp?). My son ordered the spacatelli al pesto, but he was mistakenly given spacatelli bolognese. He prefers not to eat meat. We sent that back and ten minutes later he received his correct order. The restaurant was scheduled to close at 10 PM. I can only imagine service and choices given to people with later reservation. MIDA didn't deserve one star, but that option is not offered. you MIDAwant to chose another restaurant if you expect better! read more

We had a small birthday celebration at the Newton location. Wonderful Eggplant Parm, Short Rib Lasagna, Mushroom Pappardelle, Caesar Salad. Amazing food. Great service. The restaurant served us homemade vanilla gelato and Tiramisu. Oh my goodness was it good. Our only complaint is the sound. Very challenge acoustics. My wife and I were seated across from each other, with our son on the side between us. My wife and I had a pretty hard time hearing each other across the table. Maybe more sound panels in the (beautiful) ceiling would help. read more

Mida is always solid Italian food with good seasoning/flavor. Great outdoor dining albeit noisy with traffic. Our server was very accommodating with three toddlers at the table. While food was good, one order was missed, and another arrived after most people finished entrees. read more

Incredible food but horrible service. Easily a 5 star review if it were not for the horrible service. It was really too bad because the food was great. Our waitress was friendly but totally absent almost the entire time we were there. Had to ask for water 2 times by hailing down wait staff. Waitress took our order, checked on us once then picked up our plates. We asked for a dessert menu and she gave us one then left for 10 min so instead of ordering i just asked for the check to get out. She also had tables outside but it did not look busy and other wait staff that could have stepped into help. i tried to flag staff down but nobody made eye contact until i had to yell out for help. Really bad experience with service that put a mar on the excellent dishes. Mushroom Pappardelle was as good as anything i had in Italy. The pasta was as good as any Italian pasta and the sauce was a perfect blend, which kept on getting better the more i ate it. Normally with such bad service i would have given a much worse review but because the food stood out so much i did not want to penalize the restaurant too much in case this was just an edge case. But they need to get their stuff together or others will feel the same and will not be as kind. read more

I recently went back to MIDA for Mangia Monday and, as usual, I LOVED IT. For $85, you get to choose five dishes from a special menu on Monday nights, which is a fantastic way to try a variety of their dishes. We started with the salad with breadcrumbs and the homemade bread with olive oil. The bread was delicious, warm, and perfect for dipping, and I really loved the crunchy texture the breadcrumbs added to the salad. The Carbonara was classic comfort, creamy, rich, and satisfying, with tasty, well-seasoned bacon just like you'd hope for. Next came the pepperoni pizza. It looked amazing, but knowing how much food was coming, we decided to save it to go. Best decision. The next day it was still fantastic: the perfect amount of cheese and high-quality, flavorful pepperoni. The gnocchi is usually one of my favorite dishes here, and while it was still good this time, it tasted a bit different. It was cheesier than usual, but no one is complaining about that. Not bad at all, just unexpected. The Bolognese ended up being my favorite dish of the night. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the pork was rich and flavorful. Absolute standout. We also saved the mushroom pappardelle for the next day, and it was incredible. The sauce is made from mushroom juices, so if you're a mushroom lover, this dish is a must. Deep, earthy, and so satisfying. Service was excellent from the moment we sat down. Our waitress kept our water glasses full, checked in often, and paced the dishes perfectly. Everything comes out as it's ready, which is ideal because it would honestly be overwhelming to have all that food at once. I'm genuinely surprised by some of the negative reviews I've seen. I've been to MIDA many times, and I've always had amazing food and great service. Mangia Monday is an especially great deal, and I'll definitely be back again soon, except with some friends because the Mangia Monday deal is way too much food for two! read more

I can't believe google and Yelp don't have higher reviews of this MIDA location! We popped in for Mangia Monday (5 mains + salad and bread for $85) on MLK day. Parking is extremely convenient and we were able to immediately get a table as walk-ins. There's a special Mangia Monday menu you can make your 5 selections from. For me, the 10/10 rated parts of the meal were the classic carbonara, the campanelle bolognese, pepperoni pie, and the insalata and bread. The carbonara was creamy egg-y decadence on perfect fresh made pasta, the campanelle bolognese reminded me of a nonna's bolognese sauce I tried in Italy (it had this lemon-y flavor I couldn't quite place that I thought could either be a very good olive oil or possibly from the tomatoes- perhaps san marzanos), the salad toppings have the perfect texture and flavor- between the hazelnuts parmesan and balsamic, and the pizza is incredibly thin with a New Haven style cupped pepperoni and char, but all Italy flavor- with the light sweet and tangy tomato sauce and daintily placed mozzarella. read more

I visited Mida on a Saturday evening toward the start of dinner service. It was not yet busy when I ordered, but by 4:30/5 PM, the lights lowered and the music got a bit louder. I had a wonderful server, Jean. I was between 2 wines and she poured a small taste of both, La Raia Pleo Gavi and Casa di Monte Biancospino Toscana 2023. I liked them both for their minerality but ultimately chose the Biancospino Toscana as the clean finish felt more suitable for my meal. I wanted to note the 2 wines I tried for future reference and Jean kindly brought the bottles for me to take a photo. I was provided bread and olive oil before my meal which was good quality as I could taste the olives in the oil. I ordered the Paccheri Bolognese with the pangrattato on the side. I have had this dish before, at this location but during a brunch service a couple months earlier. Mida's Paccheri Bolognese uses a pork sugo or sauce instead of a beef-pork or beef-pork-veal combination for bolognese. Upon receiving my meal, I noticed that there wasn't a lot of pork sugo and asked if I could get a bit more to add to my dish. Thankfully, Jean asked the kitchen and the kitchen kindly delivered! To add texture, crunch, and likely bulk, there's the pangrattato which helps mimic parmesan. The first time I had this dish I was a bit distracted by the crunch in the bolognese and realized it was the pangrattato. It's a nice touch but I don't need much in my meal so ordering it on the side this time made since for taste. My meal came with 18 large pieces of pacchieri. The dish was well-seasoned, with good flavour. It was slightly saltier than expected. The dish included broccoli rabe adding a bitter/astringent element to the dish. The amount of broccoli rabe was nice where it didn't overwhelm. This meal incorporated the 5 basic flavours (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami) and I really enjoyed it. MIDA is a nice Italian place in Newtonville with a spacious, modern interior and lots of sunlight. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the breeze which was ideal. Our waitress was nice but the service was quite slow overall; they certainly don't rush you! I ordered a Shirley Temple (no shame, mocktails are lowkey some of the best drinks you can order!) and it was great, tasted very fresh and like they made the ingredients right there. We started with a prosciutto ricotta appetizer which included vegetables and toast. It was alright but the cheese was a little liquidy for me, and not quite as much prosciutto as I would have thought. The entree was what I was really looking forward to, truly noteworthy: the classic carbonara of vermicelli pasta, or maybe something a little thicker, but this is no ordinary carbonara... it's full of shrimp! I never had one of my favorite Italian pasta dishes that way, and it comes highly recommended. There were also breadcrumbs all over, not something I ordinarily really need, but it worked just fine here. I also tried a good amount of the bolognese which did not disappoint, and I kind of loved the pasta. MIDA!!! YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! One quick sidenote the music was phenomenal. They were playing nothing but bangers. I wanted to try everything on the menu. I went with the mushroom pasta. It was absolutely the perfect amount of taste of mushroom. It was not overdoing it. The Caesar salad was perfectly dressed. The cookie skillet was warm. It was that texture where the cookie is almost in between raw but cooked, and it just melts in your mouth. I also got a fizz free drink. It was some sort of spritz with grapefruit. It was absolutely delicious. I spent $200 for four people which honestly it's not bad. We all got an entrée, we shared a pizza, we got one alcoholic drink,dessert and an appetizer. My lasagna was the most decent thing we ordered. Everyone else hated their dishes. Menu and customer facing staff need overhaul. Parking lot in the back. Went for the dine out Boston deal and it was disappointing. Can't comment on the regular menu much but the dishes served as part of dine out Boston were pretty underwhelming for the price. The 1st course appetizers were all nothing to be desired. Prosciutto melon- I didn't expect much but wow they lowered the bar even more. The presentation was lacking. The scoop of melon was watery and didn't taste fresh. And prosciutto was fine. The shrimp toast(?)- more effort than the prosciutto melon but was fine Mains I tried were the carbonara and chicken Milanese Carbonara- noodles too soft, bland Chicken Milanese- they used a sauce that's similar to a jam which was sickly sweet and tasted old. Just had that stale box flavor For dessert, we all got the pavlova and it was so sadly presented. It's a simple dessert that really relies on presentation but they just made a blob Anyways, idk if I'll ever come back. The pizza we ordered from the regular menu was fine and MAYBE we'll come for that and other foods but I don't recommend for dine out Boston. Updating with new dishes I've tried------ Mangia Mondays is a great deal. $85 for 5 dishes, bread, and salad. It's advertised for two, but honestly this could easily feed three people. Paccheri Bolognese (10/10): Holy moly, delicious. Sauce was so rich and had the perfect splash of acidity. The paccheri had such a nice chew, and held the sauce well. I also liked the crunch from the bread crumbs. Classic Carbonara (7/10): Sauce could have been a little thicker. Pasta was delicious. A tiny bit heavy on the black pepper. Short Rib Lasagna (8/10): The portion size was too small for me to really enjoy this dish, but I did enjoy the meat. Mushroom Pappardelle (8/10): The pappardelle was delicious. The mushrooms were also very nicely cooked. The dish itself was too watery, though. The water pooled at the bottom and made it feel soggy. Bucatini All'amatriciana (6/10): Too heavy on the tomato flavors. The guanciale flavor didn't really come through. The bucatini was good, though. Gnocchi Cacio e Pepe (6/10): Started off tasting good. I liked the texture of the gnocchi. However, the sauce was too salty. Risotto (8/10): This was actually much better than the description let on. Came back here after a five or six year hiatus. Went to the original location! This one definitely lacks some of the coziness of the original location but still had the hustle and bustle. We shared several things, the arancini, fritto misto, carrots, gnocchi, short rib lasagne, and one of the blanco pizzas. Overall, had a good time. Do I need to come back for one of their dishes? Probably not. The arancini and the whiskey cocktail were honestly fabulous, but everything else was a solid ok. Gave Mida another chance and had a really wonderful experience at the bar. The service was great and everything that came out of the kitchen was absolutely delicious. My friend and I split a few things and probably had 5 different cheeses before the night was over. I had such a great time I decided to book my birthday dinner here. I came in last night for my birthday and Julian truly made it special. His hospitality was so wonderful it led me to update my review. Again all the food was really great. The focaccia is an absolute must. I will get it every time. All their pasta dishes are perfection. I love their arancini. Honestly everything is fresh and delicious and really a great value. Cocktails are also fun an innovative. I like the hint of coconut in their espresso martini. Looking forward to going back soon! read more

Visiting a Waban friend who suggested this place. At 5:45 they wouldn't seat us until 7:30...and I was about to walk out (the place was almost empty), but instead we sat at the bar. This place is kind of Italian comfort food, not Michelin star, but great at what it does. Our server, Abby, was friendly and helpful...a paradigm of someone serving food and drink at the bar. On the early side, we split an order of arancini and a Caesar, both nice. The chef has French connections, and both the "house" wines, red and white were French and great values...the wife, a lightly oaked chard and the red a Rhône varietal blend. We ordered comfort food entrees...Icelandic cod, eggplant parmigiana, and pasta con fungi. All did the trick...not transcendent, but really good examples of the respective dish. I'm giving this 5 stars, because it's great at what it's trying to be, and because of the friendly and helpful server. read more

I've been to their South End location and had a great experience there, so I was excited to try brunch this time around at their Newton location. Parking is definitely much easier around here, and there's even a free lot in the back. This location is also much more spacious, but with the same trendy vibes and decor as their Boston spot. The food was delicious! I enjoyed the Mida Slam, which came with scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, potatoes, and pancakes. I like a little bit of everything! I was able to substitute the pancakes for the French toast and I'm so glad I did because the French Toast was absolutely delicious! Crunchy on the outside but soft and warm on the inside!! So flavorful too. Bacon was nice and crispy, and the eggs, potatoes, and bread, you really can't go wrong with. It was a very hearty breakfast and I was super full at the end of it! Waitress was average, they didn't really check on us and was hard to get the bill but I get it, it was busy. they did partially rush us because there was a reservation and they needed our table (my fault) but still made the experience less than ideal. On top of that we got the wrong dish, but I didn't even want to complain because they needed the table or whatever. I finally had the opportunity to try this restaurant. I've been hearing for the longest time how awesome it is. I got the chicken cutlet with no cheese and extra gravy. It was not the best sandwich I ever had nor the worst. It wasn't overly expensive, but I'm just really confused with the hype. Maybe 4 ounces of chicken breast and it did have sauce when it came but literally so dry. It was hard to eat and then I had to wait forever to get extra sauce. which was Pompidou sauce and not marinara and then a little side salad. Which was nice, but the croutons were like sand, and I felt like sand in my mouth so I wasn't really a fan. But what stole the show was our waitress super super nice, friendly & awesome listening skills. My friend got the mushroom pasta which looked divine. It seems like a really great place to have drinks, and if you need a little nosh, I would consider this an enhanced bar menu. Have dined here a number of times but failed to leave a review. The focaccia is my favorite-never pass it up. Love the pizza -always take some to go. The smoked short rib lasagna is excellent- I usually have it for dinner and then 1-2 meals with leftovers at home. The service is always good- and we also enjoy a drink and/or dinner at the bar. It can get a bit noisy but not hard to hear your fellow diners. Recommend a reservation. Free parking in the lot behind the restaurant or metered street parking. read more

We came to Mida for good pasta. A hungry party of nine we ordered a bunch of stuff. Drinks were good. Two orders of mussels and three fritto misto along with a Caesar salad to start. Mussels were great. Fritto misto was awesome and the Caesar was a good Caesar. Kids loved their pepperoni pizza and butter noodles. Pasta, bucatini, bolognese, papperadelle. Bucatini was about a minute too al dente and the sauce seemed like it was cooked down a bit too much. Bolognese was my fav. Chicken was amazing, pork chop was fine and the lasagne was delicious. Dessert- almond cake was light but the compote was as a bit much. Tiramisu was good and the gelato was more of a friendly's ice cream. Our server was very nice, drinks were slow and service was a little slow at times but everyone was very nice. Some dishes were good but not anything I would go back for. We've been to all three MIDA locations and this by far exceeded them all. The restaurant is cook and vibey while also warm and cozy. Our waiter was super nice and made the experience that much better. We ordered the Caesar salad, the cheese pizza, and the fungi tagliatelle. My only note is that the Caesar salad could have used a bit more salt, but otherwise all the food was amazing and redeemed our previous experiences at Mida. The pizza was phenomenal, a true homage to New Haven pizza. The pasta was outstanding. A generous amount of black pepper and citrus really brought out the flavors, I had to scoop out the rest of the sauce with the homemade bread. We finished our meal with a cookie skillet - it tasted home made, not too sweet - just the way I like it - and just the right amount of indulgent semi-sweet chocolate chips. This restaurant was just below average. We made reservations on a Friday evening so we were sat immediately. The beginning of the experience was typical...our server was not rude but not friendly. We were warned that because of the kitchen setup that our food would come out at different times - that's fine. After placing our food order we were not checked on again until after the food was served approximately 25 minutes of not a single person asking if we needed anything. This includes refilling my water. We were at the table an hour and a half before someone came to refill my water at which point I let them know I was about to leave so it's not necessary. After our food came we were asked once a few min in how everything was and then radio silence. The food was at best just ok. The ambiance was kind of nice , lots of families, but that also meant it was a little loud. Overall food was ok , not bad but not worth going out of your way for. Our experience here was quite exceptional. We had a fairly large party (of 7) and our server, Livia was outstanding. She must get a shout out. She knew the menu well, she knew her wines and she knew how to have a conversation. She was super attentive the whole time and played a huge role in making the dining experience so exceptional. Now onto the food. Ordered the focaccia cheesy bread, braised pork tagliatelle and the ricotta donuts for dessert. Let's start with the entree - perfect slow cooked pork in a light sauce with tagliatelle al dente. Well seasoned and super light. The focaccia - mouthwatering, crispy at the edges, soft in the middle. Ricotta donuts - could only handle one as it was so delicious. Reminded me of good ole beignets. The ambience at this MIDA was amazing - it was full but not noisy. How they make that happen is beyond me but it's fantastic. Go! read more

I am living temporarily in Newton and have visited Mida four times in the past 6 weeks. I keep coming back for a reason - great food matched with attentive (but not smothering) service. And I am comfortable dining alone there. I have enjoyed the entrees and pasta dishes I have tried. But I'm moved to write this review because of a discovery last evening that may have changed my food life! It was the end of a very hot day and I wasn't in the mood for something heavy, so I went with a Caesar salad and a calamari/clam strips appetizer. I love Caesar salad but avoid anchovies (unless blended into the dressing) because they overwhelm everything else. But this salad had the option of adding boquerones, anchovies marinated in garlic, herbs, vinegar, and olive oil (I had to Google it!). It promised a lighter more delicate flavor. I decided to try it and I am glad I did. It made for the PERFECT Caesar salad. I'm not sure I can go back to my old Caesar salads and will be looking for boquerones in the future! Was a fan of Mida's South End location, so we wanted to try out this location. We were pleasantly surprised at how large the space is, and appreciated how beautifully decorated it is. We had a reservation for Friday evening for two, and were seated right away. There's a wide variety of seating options for various party sizes. We both ordered non-alcoholic drinks, and got the Fritto Misto, Tagliatelle Alla Vongole, and Sausage Pizza to share. We had gotten the calamari previously, but the other two were new to us. The pizza wasn't a standout to me, but I really enjoyed the pesto pasta and would order it again. Last time, we were too full for dessert so we made it a mission to leave room for tiramisu. I was a little disappointed because the tiramisu wasn't the classic style like what I was expecting. It was still yummy, but didn't completely hit the spot. I have been to this location a few times and have enjoyed the dishes here so far. Food: 7/10 We usually order the mussels, the short rib lasagna, and the bolognese. Sometimes we throw in a pizza as well and have always enjoyed our selection. I think my favorite is still the short rib lasagna (not pictured arghhh!). I always feel that it's too small :) Location & Service: 8/10 There's a parking lot and ample street parking, so that's a plus! We also like the area as well! We have had pretty fast and good service, and never had anything to complain. Value & Ambience: 8/10 I think this is a nice place for a casual meal with friends and family. Back in July a friend and I stopped in because we wanted some eggplant pasta. It was late and they were still open and packed. It was a beautiful night so we sat outside and were immediately seated. We ordered the Caesar salad, mussels, my friend got the eggplant Parmesan, and I ordered a gluten-free and vegetarian pasta that was not on the menu. Everything was delicious. I especially appreciated the vegetarian pasta because it wasn't the normal penne like other restaurants provide when you request gluten-free pasta.
