Every once in a while, I return to a favorite restaurant and leave feeling compelled to update the review I know I must have previously written, only to discover I haven't written one ‍  That's what happened after leaving La Campania the other night. My apologies to the team -- you deserve every one of the five stars in my rating. This funky, cool, yet elegant Italian dining spot is one of my go-to 'date night' spots when we are in the mood for upscale Italian. During our last visit, we enjoyed a Fried Squash Blossoms appetizer that reminded me of the first time I had this dish (in Italy). It's so easy to overdo it with cheese and sauce, which, in my opinion, just masks the flavors. Theirs is lightly sauced and has just the right amount of cheese. She started with a Rollatini Salad (I think that's what it's called) - rolled eggplant wrapped with prosciutto and stuffed with veggies & greens. She shared it with me and we both thought it was excellent. She ordered a Figs & Duck Confit "Pizze" (flatbread-style pizza cooked in a brick oven) and loved it. I had the Veal Saltimbocca, which included seared wild mushrooms and creamed spinach for the vegetables.  I made the mistake of ordering a small portion of the Tagliolini--a mistake ONLY because I didn't need it. I couldn't finish my meal, so I took it home with me and had it for lunch the next day. One of these days MAYBE we'll leave room for dessert. But we've been unsuccessful so far.

Not so hidden Waltham gem, with an interior reminiscent of an Italian country villa. The well-appointed outdoor terrace houses 6 tables that can seat about 20, making it ideal for groups and small parties. The interior comprises several cozy micro spaces that provide a feel of being a guest in a friend's Tuscan home. We started with an Arancini (a Sicilian street food made of risotto that's rolled into a ball, stuffed, breaded, and gently fried) wrapped on prosciutto and on a pillow of Mozzarella. Delicious. Next came a risotto with pan-seared scallops, shrimp, yellow and red cherry tomatoes, and lobster stock. Joyous. We tried a special of the evening: Fresh crab ravioli with marscapone and Parmegiani, lobster sauce and pea tendrils. I found this to be relatively bland and was the only true disappointment of the evening. The pièce de résistance was the next dish: Salt encrusted whole Bronzini, wood over roasted, accompanied by a "teeny" green and French pear salad, and whole roasted garlic. $36 and worth every penny. On the gratuitous side, I'd recommend the hot chocolate soufflé with vanilla ice cream and hot chocolate ganache, which must be ordered a bit in advance. It held its shape, and will tickle your sweet tooth; very worth busting one's diet. Ask for Tim, one of the most accomplished waiters in the northeast, who won't disappoint in terms of service and knowledge. Overall, we enjoyed the execution of Campania's creative menu, its knowledgeable and attentive wait staff, and the warm, inviting decor. La Campania comes close to delivering on all the elements of a Michelin star establishment.

We had another amazing meal at La Campania last night. This place has been so consistent over the years. Angelo, our favorite waiter in the world, is like a member of our family! And the ambiance is like nowhere else in the area. The food was delicious as always, from the tuna crudo to the branzino to the chocolate souffle-- five stars all the way!

Dining at La Campania is always a fantastic experience, both because of the elevated yet authentic food and the welcoming service that makes you feel like you're dining at a family member's home. This time, we dined with a larger group and enjoyed the new enclosed patio for the winter time. A few of the highlights from our meal were: * Prosciutto and mozzarella duo appetizer, which featured incredible prosciutto wrapped around fresh asparagus and greens plus melt-in-your-mouth mozzarella on heirloom tomato * Pan seared foie gras that also literally melted in my mouth, accompanied by puff pastry and cheese * Rack of lamb that was perfectly cooked medium rare * Chocolate soufflé that is warm and worth every single bite If you're looking for a special meal in the suburbs, La Campania is a fantastic choice!

I cannot speak highly enough about my experience at La Campania last night. While the food was absolutely incredible, the best part was our wonderful waiter, Angelo. Angelo knew the details of the menu to such detail, showing how passionate he was about the beautiful meals prepared. He also was so personable, he remembered my name and when we left, I felt like he was my friend. I wish I lived in the Boston area so I could come weekly, but will gladly be choosing La Campania everytime I'm back in town. Thanks Angelo!

We had dinner at the patio on a summer evening. It was very pleasant and enjoyable time. It is the first time for us to be at this restaurant. The outdoor ambiance is very nice, although it is next to a busy road. The service was very good. We enjoyed the fresh air not being enclosed. We hope to come back in the colder weather to eat inside. The menu looked very interesting and hard to make decision. We were pleased when the bread service came out. It was warm, tasty, and no extra charge! We shared appetizers, fried squash blossoms and fig arugula insalata. One disappointment we had was the arugula in the salad could have been fresher. Otherwise, tasted very good. For entries, we had risotto, gnocchi, a rack of lamb. We enjoyed all of our entrees, well done and professionally prepared. We also ordered chocolate soufflés. It was a great ending to our dinner.

Sadly this restaurant did not impress. The rock shrimp dish was great, the olive oil too and that was it. The beef carpaccio was cut too thick. The veal was not seasoned enough but at least not over cooked. The sides were boring. A lot of people eating so make your own decision. The service was ok.

Veal chop (Grilled Veal Chop) tastes as delicious as it looks !!!!

One of my favorites for a special night !! Food is always amazing ! Our server was great and engaged in some of our decision making for dinner ( I like suggestions) , parking was busy but there are lots of parking options around! The drinks were super , I had a smoke in your rye, like a Manhattan dinner the veal chop was outstanding. Thanks for the great night !!!

But putting that aside, the hit-and-miss nature of each dish sucks the fun out of it. I would not recommend the beef skewers to anyone. While they looked gorgeous, they were downright chewy, with no tenderness or rendered fat to help me out. I almost always eat every bite of a meal, but I couldn't finish them. In contrast, the spinach had crispness, flavor, and raisins for real balance and a decent flavor profile. My spicy Solea (house) margarita was too strong, but worse, it was spicy as in hot, rather than spicy as in flavorful. It was like pepper was coating the back of my throat. On the other hand, the Basque cheesecake had great texture, on the outside and inside, and it was sweet and creamy. I found the service cheerful, and the space is great for large friend groups or for solo watching the World Cup. All in all, though, don't come here for the food.

We walked into a space divided in a way that gives tables a sense of privacy despite the larger dining room, and the atmosphere was lively without becoming overwhelming. The tapas format rewards ordering widely. The ceviche is fresh and well balanced, with enough acidity to make it a strong opener for the table. The lamb meatballs and lamb chops deliver on the richness that lamb focused tapas should bring. The beef tenderloin is a reliable anchor for anyone who wants something more substantial, and the shrimp and calamari are both worth adding to a spread if you are building out a fuller table. The paella is massive and feeds more people than you might expect, with the chicken and chorizo version being the more reliable order for flavor consistency. Where the experience gets uneven is in the consistency across the menu. Some dishes land clearly while others fall short, and the kitchen does not always execute at the same level across a large tapas spread. The ceviche and lamb dishes worked well on our visit, but a few other plates did not quite match that standard. Service held up well, though it can stretch thin during busier stretches. Our server was attentive and helped guide us through the menu, but the pacing slowed a bit as the dining room filled. For a tapas dinner in the suburbs with a good selection and a comfortable setting, Solea is worth a visit when you go in knowing which dishes to prioritize.

Food-wise, none of the dishes we got particularly wowed me (the sauces that came with each dish were better than the actual food) but I'd come back to try other things from the very extensive list. We got: 1. Patatas bravas: The best thing we got, though we should have eaten this when it was still hot and crispy. After sitting out for a while, it became a mushy mess with the sauce. 2. Spiced meatballs: Very small size for the meatball and not much spice (like less than a bite) but the sauce was excellent. 3. Jamon croquettes: Not bad but the filling was pretty gluey in texture. Definitely need to eat with the accompanying sauce. I ended up dunking it in the sauce that came with the meatballs. 4. Grilled peaches: Intrigued by this summer offering but I'd say skip. For $7, we got five very small slices of peach in an indistinguishable, vaguely sugary/burnt sauce. If you have a grill and a peach, you can definitely make a much better version of this for far cheaper. 5. Shrimp in garlic sauce: Fell flat. The shrimp were small and extremely overcooked. The only saving grace of this dish was the scallion/garlic oil that we used to dip the extra bread in. Food came out very fast and our waitress came by often to check on us and see if we needed. Lots of parking options nearby (including free 2-hour options one block over) so if you're debating which location of Barcelona to go to, the parking alone could weigh in favor of this one.
