We were very surprised by the design when we walked in - the frontage is very unassuming. I have been to many areas of Italy - some casual and some very upscale. This restaurant is a little in between. But it's charming and beautiful. We sat at the counter bar and it was a really cool place to be. It's right in front of the kitchen but also very quiet and easy to have a conversation. It's clear that the family that owns the restaurant has spent a lot of time traveling through Italy, the menu is very reflective of many of the regions. The menu was beautiful and certainly has something for everyone. We split a couple entrees but started with the prosciutto which was fantastic - I'm a bit picky about this app because sometimes it's the standard presentation that to me is boring. This dish had a perfect combination of accompaniments - it was light and is a very good starter. For entrees we had the eggplant - the tomato ragu on it was super flavorful. We also ordered the Pork Tenderloin Milanese - this dish is no less than amazing!!!! Highly recommend. The wine we chose was Ceretto Barolo- a perfect match for the entrees. We finished with the desert special - an elegant warm pear tart ... yum ! The service was excellent- we were fortunate to get one of the family members who was charming and gave us a little bit of the family history and great explanations of the dishes before we ordered. This is an excellent restaurant and a fortunate gem we stumbled upon - it's a must if you're in the area!

The food was good, I ordered the tagliolini pasta which had mushrooms and asparagus in it. I also ordered a few spicy margaritas which were very very good! The service was good! We had a good sized crowd so they basically gave us the run of one of the bar areas (we were in the wine bar). Table seating, couch seating and room to stand around. We ordered a big selection of various appetizers and everyone was very happy with the food. They had it all laid out and labeled nicely. Drinks were good, but you do have to travel bar to bar - wine at the wine bar, cocktails at the speakeasy, etc so grabbing a few drinks for others is a little more of a process - but I think this is better for a small group because you get that ambiance of whatever you're looking for. We're all pretty local and a fair amount of us had never been in before - but everyone was making plans to come back to hang out again. Pricing was very reasonable for a large group, will absolutely host another event here in the future.

We had an amazing server who was also the bartender, so friendly and extremely patient with our two little ones. Our food was great we got the short rib tacos and the potato flatbread in both were delicious. Unfortunately we have made the difficult decision to close the restaurant permanently. The current economy and ever increasing costs make it impossible to continue. Didn't see the need to have 3 ladies standing in one spot at 6pm mid-week, looking bored at best. Plenty of high top seating in the lounge or on bar side for 2-4 people. Great place for a quick bite, after work meet/up (or even a romantic dinner if you reserve the high table near the fireplace). Waitress was very nice and attentive. Great cocktail & wine selection. Crab stuffed shrimp and an entree is plenty for 1 person. Rib eye was phenomenal. Sauce wasn't needed. Crab cakes were just ok. I didn't understand the chip like flakes that were added on top. Small portions, but yet filling. I couldn't finish the large tiramisu which was also very good. The added morsels gave it a nice touch. Overall, good for locals, nearby employees or shoppers.

Solea in Waltham is a tapas bar with a warmly decorated interior and a format built for sharing,…read moreand when the kitchen is on, it makes for a genuinely enjoyable night out. We walked into a space divided in a way that gives tables a sense of privacy despite the larger dining room, and the atmosphere was lively without becoming overwhelming. The tapas format rewards ordering widely. The ceviche is fresh and well balanced, with enough acidity to make it a strong opener for the table. The lamb meatballs and lamb chops deliver on the richness that lamb focused tapas should bring. The beef tenderloin is a reliable anchor for anyone who wants something more substantial, and the shrimp and calamari are both worth adding to a spread if you are building out a fuller table. The paella is massive and feeds more people than you might expect, with the chicken and chorizo version being the more reliable order for flavor consistency. Where the experience gets uneven is in the consistency across the menu. Some dishes land clearly while others fall short, and the kitchen does not always execute at the same level across a large tapas spread. The ceviche and lamb dishes worked well on our visit, but a few other plates did not quite match that standard. Service held up well, though it can stretch thin during busier stretches. Our server was attentive and helped guide us through the menu, but the pacing slowed a bit as the dining room filled. For a tapas dinner in the suburbs with a good selection and a comfortable setting, Solea is worth a visit when you go in knowing which dishes to prioritize.

But putting that aside, the hit-and-miss nature of each dish sucks the fun out of it. I would not recommend the beef skewers to anyone. While they looked gorgeous, they were downright chewy, with no tenderness or rendered fat to help me out. I almost always eat every bite of a meal, but I couldn't finish them. In contrast, the spinach had crispness, flavor, and raisins for real balance and a decent flavor profile. My spicy Solea (house) margarita was too strong, but worse, it was spicy as in hot, rather than spicy as in flavorful. It was like pepper was coating the back of my throat. On the other hand, the Basque cheesecake had great texture, on the outside and inside, and it was sweet and creamy. I found the service cheerful, and the space is great for large friend groups or for solo watching the World Cup. All in all, though, don't come here for the food.
