Deep Ellum has made a comeback in March 2023, on Moody St in Waltham, former The Gaff space. This gastropub used to be in Allston, which closed in 2020. They are open for lunch, dinner, and late night food and drinks! The place is a bit dark with high top table seating along the wall and the long bar with seating, no TVs here. The bar offers 14 beers on tap, beer bottles, wine, spirits, and plenty of cocktails. The food menu offers an eclectic variety of small plate apps, wings, cheese boards, meat boards, salads, sandwiches, and burgers. I stopped in at Deep Ellum on Moody Street for some late night food. The place was moderately busy and I took a seat up at the bar. The bartender promptly gave me menus to look over and a glass of ice water. I did not order cocktails on this visit, just food only. I started out with the Esp Co Soft Pretzel ($6 plus tax) which was served warm with spiced mustard for dipping. Next the Griddled Pearl Hot Dog topped with kimchi & spiced mustard on a toasted New England hot dog bun ($7 plus tax) was just that, very "wasabi-like" spicy, served with pickle chips. Next, the Lentil Mushroom Burger ($14 plus tax) was comprised of a homemade soft lentil mushroom patty topped with melted Swiss cheese, shredded lettuce, mustard and pickled onions on a soft toasted kaiser bun, served with pickle chips. I also added lightly fried fries ($2 plus tax) which had a soft potato texture and a cup of tangy cole slaw ($2 plus tax). I managed to finish all of the food and I was so all set! The check was $33.17 with tax and before tip.  Overall, this gastropub is a great place to hang and chill with friends or a solo night after a long day at work. The service at the bar was friendly and my food was served fairly quick after ordering. I would definitely come back here with my buddy for the late night grub and  frosty drinks. The kitchen closes at midnight Monday-Saturday and at 11pm on Sundays

Love the bar setup and beautiful wood buildout. The Aviation cocktails were served up delightfully chilled and not too boozy - just exquisite. We really appreciated the attentiveness of the staff and their patience, as we had two under two in tow! Would come back for the burger and pickle plate!

Very impressive and innovative cocktail menu . Tons of choice for beer, cider, etc. Outstanding friendly and attentive service . Vibes and dark ambiance perfect for just about and mood.

Good and well-made drinks. I stopped in and tried their version on an Onion Smash burger, which was pretty decent, though very salty halfway through it. Generous portion. Next time, I'll try the hot dog and a few other dishes.

Unfortunately the roaches crawling on the bar are much more attentive than the staff.

Great food, great drinks, not crazy expensive, fun atmosphere. Get the burger and deviled eggs and a cocktail.

Fantastic food, drinks and service. Yes, it's different from the Gaff, but they are doing their own thing and I love it.

We sat at the bar and were warmly greeted by the host as well as Caroline, our bartender. She made us two perfect martini's to the rim, and brought us out a complimentary dish from the chef which was fantastic (I think it was fried chickpea flour in the shape of a very thick fry. They also brought us out complimentary bread and focaccia as well as home made pesto. We ordered the meatballs (the best I've ever had, and my wife is Sicilian). We then shared the Chicken Parm which had the most amazing chunky sauce packed with flavor along with homemade rigatoni! This by far was one of the best meals I've had in a while! Sweet Basil will now go in our rotation of weekly restaurants to visit.

Waltham has space to breathe, cocktails mixed with genuine craft and creativity, prices that acknowledge you are a human being with a budget, and an atmosphere where "intimate dinner" does not require a hearing aid afterward. And the food? Let me be absolutely clear: every bit as spectacular as the original. The chicken parmigiana arrives with a shatteringly crisp exterior giving way to tender, juicy perfection beneath a blanket of molten cheese. The rosemary chicken practically perfumes the table before it lands, herb-kissed and golden, the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes on the first bite. The bolognese is a masterclass in patience and tradition, rich and meaty and clinging to each strand of pasta like it was born there. Same kitchen excellence, superior everything else. I must speak of Gina, because to write this review without her name in lights would be a crime against gratitude. Our server moved through the evening with grace, precision, and a warmth that felt entirely genuine rather than rehearsed. She made us feel not like customers, but like guests in her home. This is the difference Waltham offers: care. Real, tangible, you-can-taste-it-in-every-moment care. Needham will survive without me. It will survive without you. But Waltham deserves your attention, your appetite, and your loyalty. Go once and you will understand. Go twice and you will never look back.

I am by no means an Indian food connoisseur, but I was glad to see a variety of more typical dishes like butter chicken, to dosas (gluten free!), idly, and specialty dishes from different regions. They were also able to accommodate a number of dietary restrictions in our group (gluten and dairy free, nut free, vegetarian, vegan), so it was a win all around. For my family, I ordered the sambar vada (gluten free lentil fritters), palak paneer (spinach and paneer cheese), Kerala fish pollichatthu. The fritters were a hit with the little one and came with a tangy sauce (sambar). The palak paneer was a very good version of this classic dish. The Kerala fish entree was my "why not" dish, mostly chosen since I know some folks from Kerala. They weren't around to give me the heads up that it would be a whole small fish cooked in banana leaves, though. I was a little surprised, but it was rather tasty, even if there amount of meat was a bit limited. I'll need to include them in my regular takeout roster in the future, and I'd love to dine in sometime too. The interior looks gorgeous from the pictures.
