This is kind of a hole in the wall place. It doesn't look like much from the street, but they serve us as soon as we walked in. Which was nice. We were a bit in a rush, but the server got our drink order and food order right away. I ordered the Club sandwich, which is very tasty. Life is short F.....it up! Family, Flavor, Friends Was looking for a place that opened late and had good eats. Had DE ( Deep Ellum) on the list. Walking it it's a nice neighborhood bar - good place to hang or bring a date. Got the onion smash burger and the Rueben. The burger was presented nicely and had a good savory taste just make sure to have it with the homemade pickle slices. The pickles real add to the flavor must get if u come here. The Rueben was ok kinda of dry the server said it probably absorbed in the slaw. They do cook their fries well light and crispy. read more

I miss the old Gaff, but Deep Ellum is a worthy replacement. Friendly and not pretentious. Neighborhood feel. Small but tasty menu with many vegetarian options. I enjoyed the Ruben and the pisco cocktail the most. read more

Wasn't sure what to expect being the first time here. Upon walking in it seems more of a bar than restaurant. Sat ourselves and ordered the deviled eggs, chili dog w/cheese and the poutine fries. Looking for dinner options along Moody Street and this was an easy choice. I've been to Dallas and had a fun evening in their Deep Ellum neighborhood so why would I skip the opportunity to try it again. Lots of options here, considering we have meat eaters, pescatarians and kosher eaters in the group tonight. We started off with a plate of their pickles and they were fabulous. With it, beers! Including a draft German beer for me and a tin of a non-alcoholic for Mrs. K. For main, I chose the Italian sandwich and it was fabulous. Well loaded and very tasty if perhaps a little messy. But that's what napkins are for. Mrs. K. chose the grilled cheese and said it was excellent. Great service here and we had a fabulous evening. Five stars! Food is delicious. Drinks are great. But why must the music be so loud? You can't hear yourself think. You are screaming to have a conversation. I just can't go there unless I'm eating outside and at night there are mosquitos, so it would be nice to eat inside. My colleague planned on going there the other day with another colleague. I warned her they would not be able to talk. She said she would check it out anyway. She did not even go inside. She could hear the loud music at the door and turned around and went to Sweet Basil instead. Can you turn your music down a little? The food is so good. read more

Me and my friends are convinced that the wings here are better than Buff's. The maple habanero is my favorite but their Buffalo sauce is definitely homemade because it doesn't taste like everyone else's same-old-Frank's-straight-out-the-bottle. The wings are big, plump, and crispy without breading - arguably some of the best around. Get them with sauce on the side to keep them HOT and thank me later. The cocktails are fantastic and the bartenders are great when I need suggestions. If you're looking for a fun, light drink, the bitter pineapple daiquiri is where it's at. Obviously, don't skip the fries. And don't sleep on the sausage, but if you wanna go the cheap route, get the hot dog. read more

Deep Ellum has made a comeback in March 2023, on Moody St in Waltham, former The Gaff space. This gastropub used to be in Allston, which closed in 2020. They are open for lunch, dinner, and late night food and drinks! The place is a bit dark with high top table seating along the wall and the long bar with seating, no TVs here. The bar offers 14 beers on tap, beer bottles, wine, spirits, and plenty of cocktails. The food menu offers an eclectic variety of small plate apps, wings, cheese boards, meat boards, salads, sandwiches, and burgers. I stopped in at Deep Ellum on Moody Street for some late night food. The place was moderately busy and I took a seat up at the bar. The bartender promptly gave me menus to look over and a glass of ice water. I did not order cocktails on this visit, just food only. I started out with the Esp Co Soft Pretzel ($6 plus tax) which was served warm with spiced mustard for dipping. Next the Griddled Pearl Hot Dog topped with kimchi & spiced mustard on a toasted New England hot dog bun ($7 plus tax) was just that, very "wasabi-like" spicy, served with pickle chips. Next, the Lentil Mushroom Burger ($14 plus tax) was comprised of a homemade soft lentil mushroom patty topped with melted Swiss cheese, shredded lettuce, mustard and pickled onions on a soft toasted kaiser bun, served with pickle chips. I also added lightly fried fries ($2 plus tax) which had a soft potato texture and a cup of tangy cole slaw ($2 plus tax). I managed to finish all of the food and I was so all set! The check was $33.17 with tax and before tip.  Overall, this gastropub is a great place to hang and chill with friends or a solo night after a long day at work. The service at the bar was friendly and my food was served fairly quick after ordering. I would definitely come back here with my buddy for the late night grub and  frosty drinks. Drinks are still great. Food was lacking, and the tiny kitchen has some awfully big shoes to fill. I absolutely LOVED the o.g. in Brighton, and the fall from grace hit this place hard. Deep ellum was always a great spot for food and drinks, congenial but professional service and an inventive twist on "bar food". This new iteration has what felt like fake ceramic plates, the burger was meh, and looked/tasted hastily thrown together. I wanted to LOVE this place and my wife just didn't get why I wanted to enjoy it more than we did. Staff was great, service was friendly, and I'm not sure we're gonna make it back for anything but a couple of cocktails. I really hope they turn it around and invest in some actual stoneware so it doesn't feel like I'm eating chow at a cafeteria. read more

Fantastic food, drinks and service. Yes, it's different from the Gaff, but they are doing their own thing and I love it.

Unfortunately the roaches crawling on the bar are much more attentive than the staff.

Great food, great drinks, not crazy expensive, fun atmosphere. Get the burger and deviled eggs and a cocktail.

Never before been to a bar where I couldn't choose my own bar stool to sit in. A host directed me to a stool of his choosing, like we were at the Olive Garden or something. That's not how bars work. Atmosphere is lacking. Bar doesn't have an identity. It's just bleh. Bartenders are robots, and don't even look you in the eye or say hi. I've been here a couple of times now. Food is great! The poutine is amazing! Salty, hot with gooey cheese...so good! Smash burger is hearty and delicious. I have gotten the Reuben, which was crispy and generously loaded with corned beef, and the wedge salad was fresh and cold. They have an eclectic selection of beers, both on tap and bottles/cans as well as cocktails and wines. Happy to have this nearby and I hope they flourish on Moody. read more

Came with high hopes having had our first date at the old location. Very disappointed :-( Arrived and we were told we could wait for a couple who was almost done at an outdoor table to finish. We did so gladly. Halfway through apps we were told by Brian the table was for 4-6 and another party would be seated with the two of us. No apology, no sympathy no nothing. Why couldn't we have sat when the other couple was finishing if this was the case? Why weren't we told this was policy when we sat and given the option of a private table inside (vs communal outdoor table)? We finished our drinks and packed our apps to go instead of ordering mains and more drinks. Objectively, this situation aside, the menu is smaller than the old location. Jess was our waitress and was great, Adam took over when her shift ended, also kind. Brian may have killed the magic for us and we were looking forwards to being regulars, such a shame! This place is Terrrible. We used to go to Deep Ellen in Brighton and that place was AMAZING. This place in Waltham is NOT THE SAME. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. Bartenders dont recommend drinks like they used to and the staff is very unfriendly. Zero personality. read more

The cocktail menu was excellent and our drinks were delicious. The bartender was great. Unfortunately, everything else was lacking. The decor appears unfinished, the bar stools were uncomfortable, and the house music was quite loud. This made it hard to have a conversation eventhough thete were not many people in the bar. Even with the good drinks, I doubt that we will return. We were regulars at the Gaff, which was there previously and had hope that this would become our new local.
