Loving this Starbucks lately! I happened to rediscover this location again on my way to work. They have recently redesigned the interior and it looks fantastic - a nod to the Starbucks that I fell in love with so many years ago! It's clean and has that homey yet modern feel to it. I'm so glad they kept this location in the area as it is really nice to have in the heart of the Longwood Medical area between the schools and hospitals, and it is nice to have the full store in addition to the pick-up only location at Beth Israel. Anyone who goes through this area knows it can get pretty busy in this area, especially during the mid-morning rush with the hustle and bustle of people going to work, appointments, or class. Even when it's busy, they have a good rhythm and get the drinks and food orders out efficiently, while still keeping good quality. The staff have been great, and they really do care about getting the orders done right. If I am more pressed for time, I try to order ahead extra early just to make sure when I get there my order will be ready or almost ready, and I haven't had any issues with delays. This location is up to the Starbucks standards that I expect! read more

" Cranky Employees" A Dirty Starbucks So the staff in this Starbucks were not too friendly at all . They were cranky and in a bad mood during my visit today . I came in to get some cups , lids , and straws . That they sell for cold beverages. I also got a dragonfruit refresher it's in the picture. The ambience is not too friendly or welcoming. I hope it's just a bad day for them today. Because usually all Starbucks, I have been too normally have a great attitude. The bathroom was also dirty and the place was a bit dirty . This location is only worth it during off hours and even then, I'd highly recommend you go to the Starbucks down the street (Beth Israel location is much faster, and the Mass art school is a lot calmer). The poor workers just have too many orders and struggle to keep up with them, leading to typical wait times of 30+ minutes read more

If you ever need a coffee fix and find yourself in the Longwood area, please do yourself a favor and go visit a different coffee shop (there are MANY nearby). Even if you're very particular about visiting a Starbucks, there are many other Starbucks locations in the area. The staff here are pleasant to me and I've never gotten an incorrect order even during busy hours (hence 2 stars instead of 1), but this place gets WAY too crowded. Even though the baristas are helpful, they are often so busy making drinks that they can't make the time to talk to you if there's something wrong with your order. If you put in a mobile order and your app tells you that it's ready, expect to wait at least another 10-15 minutes, if not longer. During the lockdown I noticed long queues outside the store on weekday mornings. One time I made the mistake of putting a mobile order here for one of those buy-one-get-one Thursday deals. When I went inside to get my drink, I could barely squeeze my way to the pickup counter because the place was so crowded. The pickup counter itself was cluttered with drinks that were waiting to be picked up. I ended up getting my drink 45 minutes after my app told me that my order was ready. There is indoor seating here but it's right next to the pickup counter which is annoying because people are constantly walking behind you. The space between the seat and the pickup counter is also rather narrow, so you pretty much don't get any personal space. This place desperately needs to be expanded. read more

Absolute disaster in there, despite the employees doing their best. The place is poorly laid out, always messy, and the mobile orders don't come out remotely close to when they're supposed to. I appreciate this Starbucks because I'm always somehow lucky enough to snag the tall table in the corner. It's perfect for getting work done, or people watching out the window. I was stopping by to Starbucks to get a holiday peppermint mocha this morning and while I was drinking it I started tasting a similar texture to soggy cereal balls in my peppermint mocha. I definitely know that there shouldn't be anything of such in my drink because I get this drink every year and peppermint bits are hard and not soft like this. I understand if the lines are long and you don't have time to perfect the drink but this shouldn't mean drinks are not made properly with foreign things in the drink. I don't know how they'vemanaged to hire only people with attitude. That must have taken some skill and lots of interviewing to weed out people with a modicum of customer service talent. There is almost always a queue and you will see a parade of drinks being made for people who ordered after you did before your drinks are made. If you order more than 1-2 drinks then grab a seat and be prepared to sit for a while. They'll make your first drink, then a a few drinks for other people, then your second drink, then more drinks for other people, then yours, etc. Also, evidently, employees are forbidden from saying "please", "thank you", or "sorry I made you the wrong drink... twice... in a row." read more

I'm not really sure what has been happening lately in this Starbucks. I visit almost every day for the same items. The past two weeks it has taken them about 30 minutes go make my drink. I've noticed a lot of the times, people who order after me end up getting their food or drink before me. I feel as though they need to stick to a certain order in making their drinks more efficiently. Today I ordered a simple chocolate chip cookie and it took them about 15 minutes before I had to go up and ask the cashier if I can just have my cookie I unheated. Here's a short story about a parched boy: I was walking to work (Central Square, Cambridge to the Longwood Medical Area) and I became extremely parched. Remembering my old summer ritual of "Fun Friday" (where I can get myself an over priced Starbucks drink) I decided to relive the Summer of 2011. I was trotting down Longwood Avenue looking for a place I can go in and out and rush to work (on a count of running a little late). I see the Starbucks in BI: PACKED. I felt there was no way I can get my Fun Friday beverage. I stayed optimistic. I walked a few extra blocks, hands sweating, mouth watering. I'm across the street from Children's Hospital and ZA ZING! Super short line. I proceed inside. Within seconds, a friendly barista took my order: a grande soy extra hot green tea latte, hold the classic, add 2 pumps of peppermint, please. I stand by the bar and listen to the two baristas chat about someone's name. It was a pointless conversation, but they were enjoying it. I was tempted to be that douchebag who tosses on his headphones and is oblivious to the world, I didn't do that. The barista finished my beverage (I used to work at Starbucks, I know what mine looks like) and carelessly left it there for an extra minute while he steams some milk and finished his conversation about how funny it is that his friend has the same last name as his other friend. I was not amused. Finally, the beverage was handed off in my paws. I walked away, rushed to work, and sat down. I opened my lid to find the worst foam I have ever seen. Bubbles everywhere. This is consistently the slowest customer experience I've had in North America. I believe that they strive to outdo themselves in incapacity and incompetence. I want to update with this morning's experience. I'm the ONLY customer in the house, but owing to misplaced lids, oatmeal fixin's, still takes 15min to get coffee and oatmeal. There is something magical about this Starbucks. Maybe it's because I had a few minutes to kill before meeting with a co-worker, so I treated myself to a tall hot chocolate. I even had a free coupon for it, so essentially, Starbucks treated me. Thanks, guys. The barista was as sweet as the hot chocolate. She was really excited when I presented the coupon to her. She asked me my name and I told her and she excidetly proclaimed, "Melissa" and wrote my name on the cup. This place was probably one of the better Starbucks I've been to. The clientle ranges from Doctors, Nurses, Medical Assistants and smarty pants students. I liked being in their company. It was also a pretty day outside, cool, crisp, and lighlty snowing. I love starbucks. Just not this one. It's always dirty in here, the tables are gross and the cream/milk/sugar stand looks like a bomb went off on it. The service is pretty terrible. They often don't have enough Baristas to keep up with the demand of specialty drinks. What's annoying is that if you order a black coffee the cashiers won't just fill a cup for you, you have to wait for the Baristas to finish making 6 lattes first and then they'll fill a cup for you. WTF. I've also had to wait in line and listen to obnoxious frat-boy like jokes coming from some of the employees as they leisurely made coffee at a snails pace. I've been a Starbucks partner for about 2 years now and I know that this store does NOT represent the company, whatsoever. Starbucks pride themselves on prestige customer service, which is not found anywhere near this store. Only reason I used to come here is because it's near my school and I get free drinks. I've honestly started going to different coffee shop where I have to pay just because I'm sick of getting attitude from the baristas. One of many examples: I ordered a tall flat white. VERY common drink at the time. For some reason they've stopped taking names? Which is just idiotic since they are so incredibly busy all the time and multiple people are going to get the same drink. Also not taking names down is against regulation. Anyways, there were three flat whites in a row going out and the two people behind me in line took the two flat whites in front of me. So of course I'm going to ask the barista if there was another flat white coming since I cannot read her mind or see that far behind the counter. I said "Hey, by any chance is there another fla-" She cuts off my sentence and says "IT'S COMING". No eye contact. Attitude galore. Just be a decent human being for gods sake. read more

Since this particular Starbucks is nestled within the Longwood Medical area, the frequent customers are doctors, nurses, med school students, hospital staff, visitors, and patients alike. So, yes, the lines can get very long. But, the staff is efficient and keeps them moving since time is of the essence. There aren't a lot of tables and chairs, but there are long counters along the windows of Longwood Ave. with stools to accommodate those sipping their coffee, people watching, doing their homework, writing the next blockbuster screenplay, etc. I was there before visiting my MIL in Brigham & Womens recovering from surgery and I was an emotional wreck... (she had surgery on 4/15/13 in the midst of all hell that broke loose in Boston on that horrid day and I was unsure if I could be in the hospital knowing of the carnage that took place and it made me sad just thinking of everything that happened in the city and to the innocent victims). It was clear that I was on edge and the barista was so friendly which definitely helped. Surely the staff has had to deal with emotional people on the receiving end of bad news from the nearby hospitals. Staff is friendly, drinks are made correctly, and I keep returning. read more

This is a very convenient SB since I work right across the street. Alway make my drink quickly and correctly. Only negative is on more than one occasion (always 5:30am-ish) the staff tends to speak very freely about their distain for the company and store manager, John (they used his name) with talks of all employees quiting and the store closing down if they did. In a part of Boston lacking in local coffee shops, it is, however, your best bet for a decent cup of coffee. The staff at this Starbucks is very nice, & they are generally able to keep the line moving (being located right across from Children's Hospital means that the line can get rather long). Also, there is not too much space inside, so during peak times (e.g., around 9am & 12pm), it can get a tad cramped. Tidbits: -Bring your own mug/thermos to save 10 cents on your coffee. -Not feeling like a coffee or espresso beverage? Seeing that I work across the street from here (Children's) I frequently visit this spot for a quick pick-me-up. Quick service, efficient and friendly. The line can get VERRY long, but they do a nice job of working with the flow so that you're not waiting for ever. They recently did some remodeling. They used to have chairs and round tables available, but a few weeks back they disappeared! Oh well. Doesn't bother me since I dont tend to hang around inside. There is another Starbucks up the street located in BI, but it can definitely get over-crowded in there since its so small, so I prefer this location. By far the worst Starbucks I've ever been to. The staff is lazy and rude. The store will be absolutely packed (mostly with people waiting for their drinks) and there will be 8 staff members behind the counter but only 1 actually (very slowly) making drinks. I've waited 45 mins for a drink, and when I asked about its status, the barista gave me a snippy, rude reply and then told me they "might get to it". This location is always out of food or some kind of syrup or milk for a drink. I hope to give you a "Useful" review that will help clear the air that a lot of people are complaining about. 1) Indifferent Staff. If you have to ask why they don't hire more people, you're answering your own question. If you want to help them out, then apply online. But why would anyone want to? Look how busy it is! They get paid $13.50/h as of this date to do high-stress work. 2) Slow. There's a difference between "Slow" and "Busy" and the congested volume of orders is what you create. They are only busy because you and hundreds of other people either don't brew at home and/or made the exception for location convenience. 3) Mistakes. When high order volumes force overworked baristas to sacrifice quality for expediency, mistakes will be made. Do you think the Starbucks headquarters in Seattle cares about their employees? All they care about is profits, like any other American business. Frappuccinos, Cloud Macciahtos, Refreshers (which are just sugar-water), and anything involving Cold Foam will take longer than your typical Latte or Cappuccino. Plain Coffee? Brewing at home is cheaper. Price not a problem? Hundreds of cafes in Boston. Location convenience? There's 2 other stores close by. read more

For Pete's sake, this location has to hire more people. Don't get me wrong, the employees are (usually) very nice, but if I'm waiting nearly 15 minutes to get my drink and I'm not getting a free drink voucher, you're doing it wrong. The line is out of control more often than not with hospitals and colleges surrounding the area, yet you walk in and see two people trying to figure out food orders, two more employees on the register (if you're lucky), and one barista. For a company that mainly advertises their espresso beverages with a line out the door all hours of the day, I think hiring an additional barista is probably in your best interest. This Starbucks has made my drink wrong so many times, I can't count. I forget how bad they are every so often and go back, big mistake. Today was the last straw. I asked for a 'light' drink and watched the barista make it with reg syrup and whole milk. I asked her about it when she called me and she lied and said it was a 'light'. I actually do not like this Starbucks. I work across the street and have stopped in the past couple of mornings. While the line usually moves quickly, it some times takes forever to get your drink. Twice now I order my drink and they say oh you mean bladdie bla.....same thing just in a different order. Then they inform me what that drink is....thank you but I ordered the drink so I think I'm versed on what it contains. I only go to this sbux on the weekend and it's closest to my house but the staff here is way too chatty with each other. It took 8mins to get my drink after ordering with 5 people working and 2 customers in front of me. Other customers were rolling their eyes and while the staff chats amongst themselves. They also dont make the drinks well. Most of the time I have to ask to to correct it. I think I will drive an extra 5minutes to get better service and a better drink.
