Peet's coffee is another one of those Boston staples that people rave about. I was able to receive a package from them earlier this year with their Java concentrate in it which I have been using to make home coffees (and now that I'm out of it, I definitely want to get some more). In terms of coffee, the physical Peet's locations don't have the most creative lattes, unlike other places in Boston that I have visited. However, their coffees are solid and taste phenomenal if you're looking for a good stable place to get a coffee. If you're looking for an Instagram/social media worthy latte to take those travel photos with, other cafes around the Cambridge and Boston area may fit the description more, but Peet's is definitely worth a stop if you're looking for one of those Boston classic staples that ISN'T Dunkin. read more

I love Peet's coffee and other beverages. Their food is tasty but limited in selection. What they do offer is always fresh and tasty! Orders are promptly made when I order via the App, which I do most of the time. Whenever I've ordinarily store, the wait is rarely longer than a few minutes. Such an unfortunate experience! I've been wanting to try Peet's for a while now-- I'm a Harvard area frequent flier and I've passed it dozens of times. So sad to say I was disappointed with my coffee. I came in with a few friends for a much-needed coffee revitalization. I ordered a Vanilla iced latte with whole milk, and my friends got cold brews and cappuccinos. My iced latte and the cappuccino tasted like pancake batter. What??? The coffee drinks are over-priced relative to the competition nearby. The store manager lies to customers able his intention to hold a rude employee accountable because that employee is good at tasks and hiring is something that a manager would not like to do if he doesn't have to do it even though repeated rudeness by an employee towards even just one repeat customer should be enough at the very least to respect that customer's decision not to interact with the rude employee again. read more

Stopped by here before our walk and got two lattes: vanilla iced latte and a hot one. A very average order but this place exceeded expectations. The coffee was sweet and bitter at the same time. It was so so good. The reason I can't give it 5 stars is because our two small coffees took about 7 min(on the longer side). Walking inside, I have the place to myself. I'm studying the menu board and I see Havana coffee? Made with sweetened condensed milk, it sounds decadent. The barista tells me they're out of condensed milk, sorry. Not a problem, I'll have a dark roast coffee and a biscotti please. She pours the coffee and said, sorry about your order, this drink is on the house. That folks, is great customer service. I thanked her and enjoyed my purchase while sitting outside on a beautiful night. I came to Peet's Coffee on a Sunday morning to study. I ordered the Jasmine Fancy tea. I would highly recommend it. It's very flavorful! The staff here is super nice. They have free WiFi for those who are trying to just get some work done. When I was there, there weren't that many people staying to have their coffee/food. Most people ordered to go. Had my first Peet's experience, at the persuasion of my Bay Area-born best friend. The first thing that struck me was the relative spaciousness of the cafe, especially considering the usual constraints of other places in the area. There was a bit of a line during our mid-morning coffee venture but the baristas were quite capable of working through the queue quickly. I strayed from my tendency to order an unadorned iced coffee and got the Black Tie; it caught my eye as something fairly similar to a hispanic-style coffee beverage I'd been fond of living in Miami. I wasn't disappointed, and while it was on the sweeter side for me it was a fun departure from the norm and I enjoyed it! I tend to stay away from bigger chains when I'm getting coffee these days, but this seems like a fun place to go if I want to be reckless and have a specialty drink. read more

If you're looking for a cute little coffee and tea place in the harvard square area this is THE place to go. It's a cute little place with indoor as well as outdoor seating. I ordered a usual latte mocha (hot) and it was good. The only complaint I had was that around 4-4.30 in the evening they had no food/snacks left. Like ZERO. Located along a small park (Winthrop Square) in Harvard Square. + A beautiful fall day with temps in the 70s (almost November???). ++ A busker playing guitar and singing - really well and very nice, ++ A guided tour for incoming freshmen and their parents within earshot: complete with age-old jokes and stories. ++++ Extra points for the textbook left on the park bench: "The Law of Banking and Financial Institutions". As a coffee lover, I cannot say Peet's coffees are out of this world, still, they are pretty dang good! This place is right next to the shuttle stop from my college, so, I stop here almost every time I come to Harvard square, which is pretty often. I might have gotten a pastry or a latte at one point or another, but I mainly come for the coffee of the day. I will be especially happy now that I know the coffee of the day comes iced, and I don't like my coffee scalding hot. Coffee is very varied, and is of high quality, strong but not bitter, just the way I like it. Although, if bitter is your thing, Im sure there will be something there to your liking. But, I'm not sure if they can make you a coffee to go of your choosing, I think you need to buy several cups worth (K-Cups, ground) Don't quote me on it. Even if I am right, though, there is plenty of variety in this place for a basic coffee lover. Location is nice, but very small, not a whole lot of space to sit and eat... there is some, but there are often people seated all around. Staff is efficient, polite, and knowledgeable. One day I asked what the coffee of the day was... my server wasn't 100% sure... so he tasted it (from his own cup of course) and was able to determine what it was. This to me demonstrates a strong familiarily with the product. something very important. read more

On the second day of our grueling month-long course at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, we finally were able to slip out on a long break (actually a professor was ill) and flavor this little bit of the Upper Northwest in Harvard Square. A welcome break from the Starbucks offered at the KSG facilities, not as bitter or with the burned taste that is Starbuck's trademark. As I went fairly early, they had a wide selection of pastries and muffins which were going as quickly as they were being replaced in the counter. Despite the busy location, I found the staff friendly and knowledgeable. The free Wi-Fi made it a magnet for undergraduates and graduates alike, and the sophisticated academic conversations in the outside seating area evidenced that we were indeed in one of America's preeminent centers of learning. The site is also the founding location of Cambridge by Pilgrims almost 400 years ago, which lends the locale even more of a sense of history. Great for people watching. read more

This Peet's is near and dear to my heart, mostly because of it's location right on this tiny little park in Harvard Square. There isn't much seating inside - just 4-5 tables. I've only been there weekday and weekend afternoons but lines have been pretty short and efficient. Oh, how I miss Peet's. It had been six months since I left the Bay Area. And I almost forgot what a good Cappuccino could taste like. But the richness and depth of flavor of the espresso, the tiny bubbles and creaminess of the foam, are unknown in all of the cafe's I have visited in upstate NY (my new home). Damn you Peet's. I think of this as The Saner Alternative To Starbucks In H-Square, lol ... you can usually find a place to sit down, no huge crowds or lines, and it's a quiet and well-lit place, perfect for reading or working on your laptop. The coffee is actually better quality than Starbuck's (I have switched over to Peet's roasted beans instead of SB's beans at my local Costco) and it's much more pleasant (not to mention more environmentally responsible) to use real glass or ceramic drinkware instead of the paper cups that SB's automatically uses even for non-takeaway orders. Prices seem about the same. Staff were all pleasant and professional during my visits. There is no blaring music like at some SB's locations, and the internet while not blinding fast, is of a decent enough speed. I suppose the only reason left to go to SB's on H-Square is to pose, people watch and/or pick up, if that's your cuppa. :) read more

I love this location. There is no better place to sit and people watch than Harvard Square. If you're lucky enough, you will find a great spot in the cafe. However, if the weather is amazing, you better bring your butt outside. The drinks there are okay. I guess I should preface this by saying I am a Starbucks guy (in that, I worked at a Starbucks for a few years while in undergrad). I find the way they make their drinks are a little strange, but hey, if it works it works. The lattes always taste a little too syrupey for me (but then again, I've only really had a pumpkin spice latte from here). The teas though, delicious. I had a lemon rose tea (medium / 2 bags) which was good, but 2 tea bags was overwhelming. The staff was super pleasant and helpful. The actual store was a little messy when I went (but it was a Saturday afternoon, I'm sure they were busy all day long). read more

They offer a free hour of wi fi with an access code, or you can just mooch off of the Harvard Square Business Association's clear signal (harrumph). The pastries are standard fare -- scones, muffins, croissants -- and the drinks are reasonably priced (the taste definitely trumps the offerings at *$s). The cashier here was UNreasonably friendly. No one with that many piercings should be so Pollyana. Stop it! I'm looking around, and there are multiple counters, stools and tables. They've got the classical tunes cranking on the speakers. To hell with rules. At least, most of them. Especially the ones I make for myself. For example, when I travel, I usually avoid having things I can have at home. When my colleagues took me to the North End for Italian food, I asked for something quintessentially old school North End rather than a newfangled high end Italian place. But when you are a committed Peet's drinker and you have't had a large iced latte in over 4 days, you throw the rules out the door and succumb to your innermost, dark roast impulses, and you dance with Major Dickason at your earliest opportunity. This is a nice Peets in a great location right near the Harvard Coop in Harvard Square. Service is a bit slow by Bay Area standards but it's a welcome respite for travelers and fellow Peet's lovers. read more

Dear Peet, I'm not trying to put you out of business, but your coffee is really bad. I know you feel like your competition is Starbucks, but you should really consider throwing tons of money into getting better roasters and differentiate yourselves from Starbucks further. . This is my take on this location: if you are looking of a quick cup of joe, or a convenient meeting place this place is great but if you are looking for a good cup of coffee then you may want to try elsewhere. Something that they do that isn't unique but isn't as popular other places is that they let you order a french press. You end up spending around $3 and get a much better cup of coffee for both you and whomever you are with, and on top of that you get to choose which beans you want. Sorry Peet even though I consider your ambience to be pleasant, and your location great BUT your coffee beans need some serious help. read more

I was looking forward to getting Peet's up to several weeks before visiting Boston. My boyfriend kept mentioning, "We're going to Boston... and we're going to get Peet's!" "Yay!!!" I'm a San Francisco/ Bay Area original, so Peet's is just one of those things. We first took 10 minutes to settle in, then we walked over to Peet's. I still remember the fuzzy feeling I had inside when entering those all-too-familiar doors covered in handprints. It smelt like Peet's. It felt like Peet's. It looked like Peet's. I even saw the familiar cranberry-bran muffins. So, then I ordered my latte. My boyfriend ordered his latte. We pick them up, I added my sugar and nutmeg, feeling a little iffy about the texture of the foam (lots of bubbles). Let me just preface my experience of having the first sip of this imposter Peet's latte. In California, no matter what Peet's you visit, your latte will have a Peet's latte kind of flavor and smell. Even when it's not made 'correctly,' it still tastes like Peet's. I know this sounds like Ritzer's McDonaldization, but it's true. And it's really nice, actually, because it's Peet's and Peet's is so good, and so nostalgic, and so--Peet's. When I took a sip of my latte, I felt like time froze. It was burnt. It was watery. It was worse than something from 7-11. I don't know what it was, but it wasn't Peet's. Same experience for my boyfriend, but likely not as severe as it were for me. So, yeah. Shhhhh! Don't tell anyone....I used to be a Starbucks Barista...and I am IN LOVE with Peet's.... Ok, I'm done with that confession. Not only did I love this location in Cambridge, but I was thrilled when I was an undergrad and my college's coffee shop was a Peet's Coffee shop. Win! The coffee and teas are fresh and superior to Starbucks. Their lattes are delicious and come Christmas time when they offer their gingerbread lattees, oh boy, I can't resist. For this location, I would note that they are a little slower than other locations, but being right in the middle of Harvard Square with the amount of customers, it's to be expected.
