Whenever I am in Greenpoint visiting my sister I order in from Sakura 6. I am a loyal customer for the sole reason of how good their lunch special is. Three rolls and a soup or salad all for $14. However, I do love to dip my sushi in eel sauce, and they charge a dollar extra for a side of it, even though most restaurants don't. I always get either spicy tuna, spicy Salmon, salmon and mango or the eel avocado roll as a part of the lunch special. Last time I got the spicy tuna it was a little too spicy, and was an odd red-orange color. I most recently got the spicy salmon roll which was much better and crunchy. The mango in the salmon mango roll is always ripe and delicious as well. The biggest downfall of Sakura 6 is the service and delivery. The service is very hasty and have hung up on me once, and forgot that I was on hold another time. Additionally, although seamless says 30-45 minutes for delivery, expect to wait at least an hour and fifteen for the food. Though, delivery times have been inconsistent and once I received a speedy delivery. Sometimes when things are super cheap, you have to be skeptical.... but it is good it exists. read more

Whenever I come home from school with friends, I always talk about this sushi place and how we have to go because it is the best! However I was disappointed with my latest visit. We were seated quickly, but then it went downhill from there. Our waitress paid no attention to us, so we kept having to get another waitress' attention. My miso soup was brought last, only after I had reminded them that I ordered one. Food was a decent wait as well. However their saving grace was that the food was good. Not the best sushi in the world, but a really good neighborhood option. I think my super sushi-snobby boyfriend was even impressed, so that's a good sign! We ordered the sushi deluxe, the oishii roll and volcano roll. I can recommend every single thing we ordered, it was all great. Lots of Japanese beer options served in big mugs, and the service is pretty quick. Haven't tried the delivery option yet, nor have we tried the hibachi, but that's next on the list! read more

Different rolls than Sakura 7!! Yum I live near Sakura 7 which I loooooove and now work near #6. Quality of fish is perfect, food is delicious, and the rolls are different from the other Sakuras. The only negative was the wait staff. I barely put my miso soup down and it was ripped out of my hands. My water was re-filled every 3 minutes which i dont mind but the spilled all in my food which i do mind!! I've been here three times. 1. A friend picked out the location and low and behold: Free Sake! 2. Due to that free sake, I chose this place so my friend (who is like a gorilla and needs copious amounts of boozes to feel anything) could also enjoy this little perk. 3. I didn't have any sake at all and hit this up because of it's convenient location to the G train. Here's the bottom line: it's decent. The environment is a little cheesy (flashing colored lights), but at the end of the day, it's fairly cheap and you won't leave feeling jipped. Is it a culinary or unique experience? For the first time ever, my parents are regulars at a restaurant. I walked in with them and the hostess/waitress asked them if they wanted to sit at their favorite table. ::blink:: "You guys have a favorite table?" We were seated and without question, a bottle of hot sake appears at the table. There is free sake with dinner. ::swoon:: I have a hacking cough and i have discovere that hot sake is a means to shut me the hell up with regards to my annoying hack. Just then, a 2nd bottle of sake appears as my father and i make massive dents in the hot rice wine. We both ordered the Sushi Deluxe platter which comes with 9 pieces of sushi and a crunchy spicy salmon roll. Mom had a platter of shrimp tempura. The prices have slightly gone up but its still at a great deal. The three of us had deluxe platters and the total was $53. So, about $15 -18 per person. We ate and were stuffed. The service is nice. The food is fresh. I can see why mom and dad are patrons. They also drive here and always find ample parking right out front. read more

Good for a quick meal. My partner and I are a huge fan of their Hibachi Rice. Get it spicy or go home! Let's face it folks, without the spice, it tastes sub-par. The servers are generally nice. Although my being asian, I know all about how they talk a lot of sh*t about people practically to their faces. That I did not dig. Luckily for me, I'm so ambiguous, that they dare not speak about me to my face since they're never sure what "breed" of asian I really am. Yum! I hope to make this a regular place. An excellent selection, even vegetarian rolls. The mango and cucumber roll was delightful especially when I added wasabi on top. The shrimp tempura roll was huge and filled with seaweed which I liked. I'm just so happy it wasn't a bad meal. The free sake was great as always, but I'm not in college anymore so that's not that big of a deciding factor for me. However, being a fan of beer, I noticed that they have practically every beer by Hitachino! Also, I liked how they made a separate list of Sapporo brewed in Canada. Not that I drink a lot of Sapporo. I've never had a single complaint about this place. The food is always great, consistently. A big fan of their rainbow roll and tiffany roll (who doesn't want a deep fried california roll?). The vegetable and chicken tempura appetizers are delicious too. I've been with people who have ordered chicken teriyaki and chicken with noodles and been very happy. I love the cozy, intimate atmospehere, especially when they have the front french-door-windows open in nice weather. Oh-COUGH-and the free hot sake isn't a bad thing either. When I use to live in Greenpoint during the early eighties, most of the restaurants bakeries,& groceries were of course dominated by everything Polish. Their cuisines, which I had adapted became one of my favorite. The mouth watering Roasted Golanka & Pierogies was my constant order. Nowadays there are a mixture of different cuisines, Mexican, Japanese & Thai restaurants along Manhattan Ave. Although we had moved like 20 years ago , we still frequent the place at least twice a month for one reason. We still bank there. Sakura 6 caught my eye on our last visit & decided to give it a try. They do have a large selection of Sake.. For starters I had Harumaki, Japanese Spring Rolls & their DeLuxe Box /Choice of Chicken, Steak Shrimp, Fish, Scallops Teriyaki. I had the Chicken Teriyaki & it comes with Miso Soup, California Roll,Steamed Rice with Streamed Shrimp Dumplings,all for $12.95. Sake was free. The meal wasn't that bad, but they can sure teach their staff to be more attentive to their customers needs. Pleasant staff is essential to every business..Just saying... I'd love to try their Combination Hibachi sometime. read more

I couldn't possibly say enough good things about Sakura 6. This is the king of all sushi joints in Greenpoint, hands down. Granted, there aren't that many... but still. First things first: free hot sake. They aren't kidding about this. It really is free, and it really is unlimited. Not only that, they never try to rush you out. You can have your meal and proceed to chill and knock back a couple bottles - no problem. Furthermore, the sushi isn't expensive at all. Two people can eat like princes, get absolutely wasted, and leave paying $30. As for the food itself, it's actually quite good. They have some very nice specialty rolls, the boxes are varied and tasty, and the menu is robust. Don't miss the teriyaki, which arrives steaming and fresh. The waitresses have always been friendly to me, even explaining the taste of different fish before taking my order. The decor is quite nice as well. Ordered the Crunchy Spicy Tuna roll and Spicy Lover roll. (Spicy Lover- spicy crunchy tuna topped with spicy crunchy salmon and wasabi caviar on top). What can I say, I really like spicy tuna and you cant go wrong with a sprinkling of tempora flakes! The presentation was well done and size-wise definity on the larger side. I finished my beer and both rolls and frankly was stuffed. Wished I'd doggy bagged 2 pieces to eat later versus stuffing myself. Waitress was all thats required, not that theres much needed but to refill water and bring the check. I could have gotten free hot Sake (available FREE with $10 order, dine-in only), but opted instead for a beer as it was decently hot outside. Ordered a lunch bento box and I must say I'm not happy. First off..teriyaki salmon had no teriyaki on it and one piece of brocoli. They only give you 1 soy sauce when I asked for more she wanted to charge me $1. The amount of Wasabi they put on the plate for for ants! I have been coming here for years but probably won't return. This place has amazing sushi! The service is always nice and friendly. The location is literally in a perfect spot in green point so they will deliver to almost anywhere. However my only complaint with the delivery is that they have a 21 dollar minimum on seamless. I don't feel a need to order so much just for sushi. Walked in to check out a menu and politely asked if there were any specials/lunch specials. The woman at the front of the house, decided to speak in another language, which not only can I understand, but realized was she not only mocking the customers on their appearance and body size throughout the restaurant, she also screamed for me to get the f*ck out! and how dare for asking if there were any specials on the menu... This was all in the span of a 1-2 minute menu scan at the door. I immediately walked out, and would never try the food, but hearing this outburst, but seeing that the person in charge is an emotional basket case, I can only imagine the food being just as crappy as this person's attitude. I don't know of much better sushi roll deals in NYC: three rolls for 12 bucks and soup or salad. The free sake if you spend over $10 is a nice gesture although the sake does taste like its free. It's definitely not an authentic Japanese restaurant and is run by an all-Chinese staff--at least in the front of the restaurant--but the rolls are sufficiently tasty and the price is right. I've never ordered anything else off the menu and from the looks of their other offerings, I'd advise sticking with the rolls. Also, go for the miso soup, not the salad. Very disappointed if I could I would give it zero starts. I went yesterday for sushi with my friend and we had sushi. And my friend order the eel. The eel smelled horrible and it tasted old. I ordered a lunch special, spicy tuna & boston roll, with salad lunch special. The salad dressing tasted bitter so I barely touched that. My rolls were loose and just not really that flavorful. Maybe I need to try more things but not sure if I actually will. I haven't even eaten my delivery yet. I had such a bad experience with the delivery itself that I'm here writing a review, because even if the food itself is made of unicorns and rainbow magic, it won't redeem it. I was on my way back to my apartment itself in my building when I got a call from the delivery person. Since I wasn't IN my apartment, I asked if he was outside the building, in the lobby, or outside my apartment. I couldn't hear what he said so I asked him to repeat himself. It became a phone tag of him calling me, and the restaurant calling me. When calling the restaurant back, I just got a busy signal or this SCREECHING like it was a fax number. I got a hold of the delivery man and he just kept on screaming, "I AM HERE. I AM HEREEEEEEEE." I got back to my apartment and he wasn't outside. See, usually deliveries are to people's apartments themselves. So I said I was in Apt XX, or if I should go downstairs. He kept on bellowing, "I AM IN THE LOBBY." Uh, why would you go as far as delivering it to the library then decide to quit and not deliver it to the apartment? So I walk to the elevator, and the delivery man was in it. Came here on the hubby's recommendation. Skeptical when we pulled up-since albeit Clean and nice atmosphere the sign with grade still pending since October 2105 had me worried. Service was very attentive. We ordered Gyoza for starters. Bland and what is usually amazing sauce that accompanies this dish was well...bland. We ordered the dragon phoenix roll (4 stars),sweetheart roll(ehhh),bagel roll, rainbow roll and the Hanada roll- all 3 stars. Overall dinner was good. I eat here often because it's one of the few places still open at 10pm when I'm just getting out of work. Their food is always consistently tasty and fresh, the service is friendly and fast and after you eat they don't try to rush you out the door. They're very accommodating when I change tables. Their takeout and delivery are equally timely, in case you were wondering. The only thing that I don't care for (but completely understand) is they close in the afternoon for an hour or so. Sometimes I'm in the area and want take-out but I can't order; I have to go to my office, wait for them to reopen then place a delivery order. read more

Sakura 6's gimmick is giving away free hot sake, so I was unsure how good the food would be if they had to rely on marketing tricks to get folks in the door. They serve fairly good sushi at a fair price but I can't say I was too impressed with what I ordered---2 rolls, salad---for lunch but I'd probably give it one more try for dinner since it was a loss-leader special. My wife ordered the fried rice with shrimp and that was quite good, if simple, and a nice lunch value. This is not Nobu, nor do they pretend to be. -Fresh and tasty -large and varied menu -giant portions -speedy delivery -friendly -CHEAP Dining in can be noisy depending on the night because of a small space and a lot of shiny surfaces. This is as good as it gets for vegetarian Japanese food in Greenpoint. The AAQ roll is fresh and the veggie gyoza are always delicious and come with a really good dipping sauce. I'd never had a warm sushi roll until I tried their sweet potato tempura roll. yum yum yum. Their beer options are selective and very good. Hitachino beer is pricey but well worth it. Try the ginger one. I really like eating in at Sakura 6. The music can be weird but the decor is cool. I like the fishbone sculpture thing on the ceiling. I guess I was there the same day that reviewer Audrey F. was when the employee flipped out on the homeless guy. I thought that whole scene was really weird and maybe awful, but later that evening on my way home the same homeless guy lurched out at me from a doorway and tried following me while yelling to give him money and something else I couldn't understand. Majorly cheesy Bangkok karaoke light show in the dining area. Staff are very clearly NOT Japanese, if you care about that sort of thing. The roll combos on the back of the menu are the way to go. If you stay to eat, you get free sake. read more
