Let the record show that I have never set foot in the actual restaurant of Sushi Yoshi - I can only speak to the times I've treated myself to their omakase takeout whenever I have any type of Grubhub credit to burn, because it is exquisite. I went with the Chef's omakase that had six pieces of nigiri and a fatty toro roll which came with a salad, plus the uni and fatty toro hand roll (I effing love toro). I ordered via Yelp (GrubHub), the sushi entree (nigiri and a roll) and a few pieces of salmon nigiri. The rice was tough, dry, and obviously old and refrigerated. The grains varied from being hard and pebble-like and having a mushy outer layer over a dry interior. The fish was all poorly cut--weirdly inconsistent sizes of nigiri, and a few pieces still had connective tissue inside. The fish--all of it--had an odd odor and mealiness. The texture of the salmon nigiri, for example, was like partially dried clay that had been brushed with a little water: chalky, but with a slimy exterior. Even the pickled ginger was mealy and tough. My guess is that everything is prepped hours in advance and sits uncovered in a high air circulation refrigerator (or countertop unit), so the dehydration (and odor) is applied to everything stored there. See photo: I lifted a piece of salmon off the rice to check the underside. It's mottled, dry, and uneven--showing that it was precut, stored, and moved around, stretching and marring the fish. I'm really surprised and disappointed, since other reviews appears to be quite enthusiastic. AVOID. read more

I ordered a delivery order from this place while craving sushi. I'm really glad I did because even though it was delivery, it was still so fresh and good. I got the 3 roll combo with a salad for $24.19 (normally it's $28 but they had a discount online). The salad came with a carrot ginger dressing that was very refreshing and paired well with the vegetables. The 3 roll combo has many options and I got the salmon avocado, spicy salmon, and yellowtail with scallion. Right away, I noticed the fish pieces were large and didn't look old. The rice to fish ratio was good too, with more fish and less rice. The avocado didn't have brown spots either. I was really full after this and probably could've done 2 rolls but I'm glad I did 3 so I could try more options. The packaging was thoughtful, both soy sauce containers were in a plastic bag to prevent any spills and the miso soup was placed in a separate brown bag, so it didn't impact the temp of the sushi. I feel bad writing this review because I think this is a new location. However I ordered for delivery and spots like these are a dime a dozen... call this "I spent $50 on sushi delivery so you don't have to." To summarize, I got the omakase and it was disappointing. It includes pieces like Uni and chu toro but it still wasn't worth it. The fish is mediocre and not as fresh as I would have liked. I spat out the Uni and scallop. Additionally the fish to rice ratio was way off, with the nigiri having too much rice. And the rice was not as soft, sticky, or seasoned as I'd like either. FYI the seared salmon sushi donut is lightly torched smoked salmon- I wasn't a fan due to my dislike for the rice and I found it too salty, but it was flavorful if you think you'd be into that.
