Loved this place. Small but very spacious. The sushi was amazing. Fresh and the presentation was lovely. The service was also very good. I had a very beautiful as well as friendly server from Indonesia. I unfortunately didn't get her name but she was attentive and a pleasure to talk to while I was enjoying dinner. This establishment is lucky to have her.

They don't take reservations online but we were able to walk in at 8pm for 5 people with no issues. The staff was nice and accommodating. The food was fresh and yummy. We got 3 apps to share, the sashimi platter and 4 rolls which was enough food.

My friend and I have been on a sushi kick lately and since we were in the Williamsburg area, we decided to stop by for a light, quick dinner. It's a nice restaurant with moody lighting, perfect for a date night or a small birthday celebration. Their menu is hosted on an iPad, so you can tap through the different categories and read about each food option. The only thing is that the tablet can get a little glitchy. My friend has a gluten allergy and our server was patient. She took the time to ask the kitchen about whether different ingredients were GF-friendly. The staff also brought over a bottle of gluten-free soy sauce! I ordered a Crunchy Spicy Kani Avocado Roll and two Salmon Nigiri, and the food came pretty quickly. The rolls were tasty but I do think avocado could have been a little more ripe. Also, I didn't think my Crunchy Spicy Kani Avocado Roll was at all spicy. It felt like the kitchen added a little bit of an original twist to the items, for example, lemon zest to the salmon nigiri, which wasn't bad but not necessarily needed if you just want classic, hearty sushi.

I made a reservation through resy and changed it but for some reason it didn't update in their system so it looked like I came an hour "late". The host/waitress gave me a bit of a hard time about that when there was literally only one other couple dining inside, so that felt unnecessary. As I waited for my friend I was asked a few times if I wanted to order something so I ended up ordering us some miso soups which were tasty and had mushroom in them which I've never had before. We tried the crispy rice and got a couple special rolls which were good but nothing out of this world. Honestly wasn't worth the trip to Williamsburg for me. There are plenty of other sushi spots in Brooklyn that will make you feel welcomed when you walk in and serve great food.

To be honest, it's closer to a 3.5 stars than 4 but I'm rounding up because the service was very nice and attentive. I went for dinner here with my sister and partner and we ordered a bunch of items and shared. - Mushroom miso soup (5/5): this was the best miso soup I've had. - Brussels sprouts (2.5/5): lacked texture and crunchiness. Was fine but needs improvement. - crispy tuna (3/5): these felt like fried balls of rice more than crispy tuna so I was a bit disappointed since I usually love crispy rice. - Big Mac (4.5/5): this was unique and delicious, the clear winner of all the rolls we ordered. - banana dessert (4.5/5): delicious!! Textures are great. We liked it more than the matcha finger one Overall a nice spot for dinner and we didn't have to wait when we arrived on a Thursday night.

My bff and I were in the area on a rainy day and both craving sushi. We came across this find on yelp because it was very highly rated. It did not disappoint! Possibly the best spicy tuna roll I've ever had. I also recommend their crispy rice spicy tuna app! We also ordered a nigiri entree, all the fish was so fresh and I can't wait to go back. The employees there were very kind and attentive and the aesthetic of the restaurant was very cute. I think It would make for a great date spot! From my pics you can see the cute aesthetic! It's not too far from the metropolitan G/L train!

I had high expectations for IWak, having read many reviews and also having scoured the menu a handful of times. I ordered delivery which may have been my mistake since it's literally less than a five minute walk from where I live. I often just stick to rolls if it's not a sit down or omakase situation because it's just more reliable. I did the spicy salmon, california, and spicy shrimp crunchy something or other. I thought the vinegar rice on the rolls was well done. Something that's usually butchered. The insides of the rolls were what threw me off. None of the spicy stuff was actually spicy :/ It was hard to tell if the fish was fresh or not, but perhaps dining in and trying the nigiri or sashimi would be a better indicator.

I'm embarrassed to admit I've never been much of a sushi person. I tried it once when I was younger and wrote it off as raw fish. But in an attempt to expand my palate, my friend took me here to re-try sushi and sample an assortment of things. Take this review with a grain of salt, as I am a novice sushi eater. But for those venturing into the land of sushi just a little too late into adulthood, Iwak is definitely a perfect place to start. We ordered an assortment of appetizers (gindara, spicy tuna), rolls, and a la carte sushi pieces. My favorites were the gindara, eel, spicy tuna, and spider roll. Will definitely be back to try more and to save room for dessert. Also, shout out to the very kind and friendly staff. They were super helpful with choosing pieces to try and offering recommendations, and they gave us complimentary sake!

The ambiance is amazing. Our waitress gave amazing service. The steak we got as appetizer was very tender, and the sashimi was very fresh and flavorful. We also got their nonalcoholic berry friz and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend this place!

    Pleasant table setting.

A relatively new restaurant along Grand in Brooklyn. Just 5 months old in a growing community. Iwak was a quick walk from hotel indigo and satisfied my urge for Japanese food tonight. When you can eat nigiri without dipping each piece in soy sauce or wasabi, you know it is good. Very fresh pieces of fish. The little touch of adorning the top of each of pice of nigiri made iwak stand out of the ordinary. The grande nigiri comes with a spicy tuna roll that wasn't that spicy. Tasty and not spicy. If you are around here and has the urge like me, give iwak a try. Start with a pot of their bottomless green tea. Nothing special but it comes in a heavy tea pot with a geometric design.

They may be the "New Kids on the Block," but you would never know that given their top notch service, and nearly perfect dishes. My water glass was never empty, which to me, is a basic indicator of the overall service you can expect from a restaurant, and IWak did not disappoint. We tried the Shrimp Shumai and Rock Shrimp for our appetizers. The shumai are larger than what is typically served elsewhere, hence the smaller portion. The Rock Shrimp were tasty, although the aioli was a touch on the salty side (perhaps bc it's miso based...) We ordered the Tuna Madness and Killer Scallop signature rolls for our mains, both of which were super fresh, with delicious flavor profiles! We were too stuffed to try dessert, but we will definitely save room the next time we visit this new and sexy sushi spot!

The service here is extremely friendly and attuned to providing their customers with the best service possible. They replaced our plates in-between transition from appetizers to entrees, and replaced a plate that seemed a bit stained without us having to say anything, showing that they inspect their silverware thoroughly, which is very considerate of them. Now let's talk about the equally amazing appetizers and entrees. Appetizers: Foie gras with raspberry reduction sauce and figs - very smokey and tender bite of foie gras. It was incredibly rich in flavor, which pairs perfectly with the sauce that accompanied it! We saved some to pair with our steak, which was phenomenal and I definitely recommend it since it was both delicious and a pretty big portion! Torched scallop and fluke - incredibly tangy and sweet, with very fresh scallop and truffle slices to top it off! The fluke was mild in taste, especially in comparison with the incredibly fresh scallop that has a nice bite to it. The tomato and yuzu were both very citrusy and sweet. A perfect melody of flavors! Entree: SuSaMa - a beautiful construction of assorted sushi and sashimi as you can clearly see in the picture! Ours came with o toro whereas others I've seen came with uni. The waiter explained that it depends on what's fresh so you can ask them before you order to see if it's too your liking! Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious; highly recommended! Saikoro steak - incredibly tender filet mignon with a savory soy based sauce that paired perfectly with the mushroom and potato! The sauce infiltrated every piece of the entree and infused it with a sweet ye6 savory flavor. Highly recommend trying this as your main entree, for its incredibly generous and very deliciously filling! Dessert - Ginger and matcha ice cream with banana tempura - the ginger ice cream was a brand new experience for us and wow, it was delicious with actual ginger pieces! Overall, Steve and his colleagues took really good care of us and I will definitely be coming back to try their expansive and ever changing menu, for they are striving to take in customers' feedbacks to better their dishes. Highly recommend giving this relatively new restaurant a try and I promise you won't regret it! P.S. Get the yuzu mock tail, it's delicious! Thanks for reading and good luck!

The broth and rice combination was really comforting and satisfying. This dish was something I wanted to try in Japan but did not get a chance to experience when there, so I was excited to try it at Ozakaya. I was really pleasantly surprised by the ramen here as well. Food: 3/5 I'm a huge sushi fan, so I was excited when I saw a deluxe sashimi set on the menu. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark. The scallop was thinly sliced and lacked the rich texture I was hoping for. The salmon and other cuts were decent, but short and oddly shaped--chunky yet small, which made the whole presentation feel a bit off for something labeled deluxe. We also tried to branch out and ordered the short rib entree. For $21, it was shockingly small--definitely a single-person portion, not sharable. I added extra ikura to a salmon donburi bowl for $2, but it was barely a teaspoon's worth--just enough to say it was there. Oddly, the salmon slices in that bowl were thinner than the sashimi we had just eaten, and overall, it left me still hungry even after sharing a maki roll. Lastly, my husband ordered a green salad, which somehow took the entire meal service to arrive. When it finally came, it was just plain romaine, cucumbers, radish, and dressing. For a dinner that clocked in at over $150 (after tip), we definitely left underwhelmed. Service: 3/5 This part wasn't bad, just confusing. We were seated quickly, but the pacing of the meal was strange. Our seaweed salad and soups came out promptly, but the green salad came last, after the hot dishes and nearly after my husband finished eating. Also, a small thing--but when I'm paying $16 for four oysters, I want to know what kind they are. The menu just said "West Coast oysters," but our server couldn't tell us the variety or origin. Not a huge deal, but it added to a general lack of polish that didn't quite match the pricing. I don't think I'd return. For the price, there are better sushi options in Brooklyn with higher quality, better portions, and clearer service. Still, I appreciate new spots opening up in the neighborhood, and I'm always happy to try something new. Hopefully they refine the menu and service with time.

As for the specialty rolls, there were some pretty creative options - don't shy away from seemingly odd combinations because the flavors really do work well together. I appreciated the rice:fish ratio on all the rolls, the rice was a thin layer letting the flavor of the other ingredients really come through. The plain spicy tuna roll on the other hand was filled with spicy tuna mixed with something crunchy - maybe puffed rice? It seemed to be an unnecessary filler, I would have preferred just fish. I enjoyed the Lovers Dream and Golden Sunset roll the most. While I was debating it while ordering, in hindsight I would definitely get two rolls per person, maybe more if you're really hungry.
