Lived up to the hype, with respect to the prime rib! Wasn't expecting how large, or how popular this place was. First and foremost, we added ourselves to the waitlist via Yelp but didn't realize we still had to check in at the very busy hostess desk. So we waited out our 25 minute wait time at the bar, then went to hostess and had to be ADDED into the system to show we were onsite. So another 25 minute wait and lesson learned. As a party of 2 we were seated at a window table with a great view. Our server was excellent, and the prime rib cooked to perfection and absolutely tasty. Did not care for the beans or carrots so much that came with, and the salad pre-mixed with ranch dressing was basic but a good balance between salad/dressing ratio. Afterwards we went out on the patio to take in the view which at night was pretty fantastic. All in all, I would recommend to anyone who likes beef. read more

The food is exactly what you would expect from a mountain top steakhouse-hearty and delicious. I ordered the 'Tenderfoot 8 ounce filet', and it came with biscuits and rolls with CINNAMON BUTTER-winning! They also start you with a garden salad with house-made ranch dressing that is SUPER on point. They also dress the entree with sweet carrots and corn on the cob-so come hungry. Plus they give a pot of beans for the table-and they are by far the best baked beans I have ever had. The service was 5 star. Managers Kathy and Craig came over to greet me upon arrival, and Craig was kind enough to give me a tour of the indoor and outdoor spaces. My server Melia was friendly, attentive, and always available-ask for her when you come here. As we were chatting, she also told me she is an esthetician next door at the Arizona Grand Resort and Spa, go get yourself a facial before dinner and request her :) The ambiance is lovely-very rustic Arizona, and ask for a window seat with a great view of the mountains. We are visiting Phoenix, AZ and heard lots of good reviews about Rustlers. We came at 5 pm on a Thursday and were seated immediately. Our server was very friendly, professional, and fun. I attended a Christmas party in the patio area and it was a positive experience. The view was beautiful and the staff was attentive the entire duration our our event. They cleared plates and cleaners constantly as this was a corporate event with lots of moving pieces. I did enjoy the vibe as it reminded me of TN. The views outside were amazing and also there was line dancing and good country music! I wanted to try the Rattlesnake but they didn't have any so the waiter suggested Cactus Fries and it did not disappoint. This was our first time coming here. I ordered the rotisserie chicken got my little one the chicken fingers and my husband got the cowboys platter. We went with some friends and they got wrangler ribeye and a cow boy platter also. The food was okay. But the experience and scenery was worth it! Once seated bread was brought to the table. Biscuits and fried bread. Also when ordering you also get a salad with your meal. While waiting for our food. There was a magician who came to the table and was amazing. We tried the restaurant for the first time as a date night after seeing it advertised on our local news channel AZ 3 and on Arizona Highway. Great view of the valley looking at Camelback Mountain. Our server was great. Food is a little overpriced, but you get good portions. Kids 10 and under eat for free every day with the purchase of adult meal. so we did the rattlesnake and prickly pear fries appetizer and there's so much better you can't taste anything. I had the brisket and jalapeño sausages. Brisket was dry, but the sausages were ok. Cocktails run about $20 and they served in a small mason glass, but were heavy pores They offer a nine layer chocolate cake, which could easily feed multiple people. My husband doesn't care for chocolate so we did not get it. Live bands every night we could hear the music and it was pretty good. My family dined here on Saturday night for my birthday. We were originally seated in the far back of the restaurant and couldn't hear the band or let my kids enjoy the slide. Once a new table opened up the staff was very friendly and allowed us to move front and center! Don't worry I wasn't a "Karen" we paid and tipped our first server closed the tab and opened up a new one . My husband has the ribeye, which was good. Daughter had fried shrimp and rice, we had two orders of the Vaquero and out little boys had chicken strips and Mac n cheese. The band was great! Atmosphere was so fun. I like the food well enough- it's nothing to write home about but it's decent. Views are great! They almost always have live music when we go and it's super family friendly! Service is pretty quick and servers are super nice! My main complaint is that for a family friendly place, having a changing table out in the open hallway blocking the entrance to the bathroom door where there's absolutely no lighting is terrible! I had to change my son and people were stopping and commenting while I was there, it was very uncomfortable. read more

The place itself looks amazing--great atmosphere, fun music, a slide for kids, and even a balloon artist. My daughters had a blast, especially with the slide and the bull out front. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't come close to matching the vibe. Three items were removed from our bill: one meal was overcooked, another never made it to our table, and the ribs arrived... without any barbecue sauce. How does that even happen? Everything we did get lacked flavor. Service was equally disappointing. I placed my drink at the edge of the table to signal for a refill. The server made eye contact and kept walking. It took three separate requests to finally get a refill. I truly wanted to like this place, but the experience left a bad taste--literally and figuratively. We stayed at the Arizona Grand & were looking forward to dinner here. I called ahead and made a "reservation" for 3 at 8pm this past Saturday. After waiting 25 minutes or so for our table we were walked around the whole restaurant to be sat right next to the stairs on the lower level where we just standing, so odd. They shouldn't even have a table here to be honest. People were running up and down the stairs, it was extremely loud and awkward for us. The menu was small and didn't list any sides or explanations of the entrees. We ordered but could hardly hear our waiter with all of the noise. He kept hitting his head on the hanging lamp with the low ceilings so I gave up repeating myself. My boyfriend ordered the beef ribs & I ordered the BBQ ribs. His came out with BBQ sauce all over them. The BBQ sauce wasn't listed on the menu with the beef ribs so we assumed it didn't come with them. After being in the sun all day my daughter wanted an ice cream sunday for dessert. Our waiter seemed overwhelmed and was not around much so we checked out when he brought the ice cream Sunday. I kept seeing people getting cotton candy & I was told when I checked in that everyone gets one. I really wanted it so we stayed a few after we paid the bill but it never came. Honestly this place is there for the view. The food is maybe slightly better than your local Chili's or Applebees but not better than Texas Roadhouse. Prime Rib was very good. Buttered carrots and corn on con sides with biscuits and beans was plenty. Others at our table said the Prime grade Sirloin was just okay, the half rack of robs was good and the brisket was good. The views of Phoenix from the mountain are magnificent as the sun goes down and the city lights come on. The service from Lily was fantastic. She's a winner! And the complimentary cotton candy at the end is a unique touch. I'll add that drinks at the bar before dinner were excellent. Great bar tender on January 10th. I used to give it 5 stars years ago. My 3 stars today is a reflection of the food quality as compared to how this restaurant used to be 5-10 years ago. We have been here too many times to count over the years. We have lived in the valley for over 10 years and made our first visit to RR. Definitely a little difficult to get into the restaurant if you have issues that affect walking. The restaurant has a old wild west vibe, lots of wood to give it a saloon feel. Friendly service. The view is great but you have to sit right next to a window to appreciate it. The menu is nothing fancy. Ribs, brisket, prime rib, burgers mostly. The prices are a little on the expensive side. I got the wing appetizer and onion rings. The choices for the chicken wings were mild or hot. That's all. They were a little on the small side and we're just okay. The onion rings were definitely the star of the show. They are perfectly cooked, crispy and delicious. The brisket nacho advertiser was very good too. A lot of brisket. A lot of nachos. Definitely enough for a table to share. Two people we were with got the half slab of pork ribs. I tried one and I thought the barbecue sauce was very good but the ribs were a little on the tough and chewy side. The sides for the pork ribs were carrots and a half a piece of corn on the cob and they were unimpressive. We did enjoy the family style salad they brought out to the table before dinner and the rolls were also good. The bill for four of us, two entrees and two appetizers with an iced tea and a diet soda was over $130 including tip. Went there the day after Valentine's Day with my husband and it was my first time, but my husband used to go all the time when he was a kid! Beautiful outside and in! Has amazing views of the city! Has a live band, two stories! Big bar and a slide inside for anyone! They even have a live bull out front! Everyone was so cute, the servers were dressed up with cowboy hats on too! Management is very rude and disrespectful! I called 3 days in advance to get a reservation to celebrate my husband's birthday so I ordered the birthday package for $25.00. I told them that I can't talk about it as he will be there. I called to confirm the day before and 2 hours before the appointment. When we got there. My husband went down the slide first so I was able to tell the host about the birthday package again and it's a surprise to tell my waitress. We ordered our food and ate. Food was very country like. Food was terrible. My 8 year old daughter decided not to have the free kids, and wanted to share a steak with me. I am immunocompromised, so our sirloin steak was ordered medium. Steak arrived bloody and red. When the server brought our food one of the corn on the cob rolled onto her serving tray. Server picked it up with her bare hands, put it back on the plate and tried to serve it to me! When the check came, I was charged $5 for an extra plate. I shared my food with an 8 year old! We have been going to Rustler's Roost for many many years. It has always been consistently good. What a FUN place! beginning with the huge longhorn steer out front and the slide inside. There is a great "oldtime" western feel to the place. I grew up here in the 1960's. Going to Rustler's Roost brings back so many memories. One of my favorite things about it are the spectacular views of the whole valley. Make sure you reserve a table with views where you can watch the sun set. The service is always excellent and the food is great. Live music makes it even better. This is my favorite restaurant of all time. One day, during our recent visit to AZ, our son-in-law asked if we had ever been to Rustler's Rooste. Not only had we never been there but we never even heard of it. He then told us how he ate there as a kid and wanted to go back. So...we told him to go and make a reservation, which he did. Rustler's Rooste was established in 1971. It got its name because it sits atop a butte in the foothills of South Mountain. That butte, in the past, was a hideout for cattle rustlers. It is in a nice spot that overlooks Phoenix. Upon arrival, we drove up a narrow road that brought us right to the restaurant. Son-in-law told us that during the weekend it's so busy that people sometimes have to park in a lot at the bottom of the hill. Once we entered, we had to go up, then down a series of wooden ramps. One of the ramps had a slide next to it for those who wanted to use it to get to the next level. While adults can use it, it's very popular with little kids. We were seated at a large booth that easily held the 6 of us. Since we were near the door to the outside seating area, I was able to go out there and get a couple of photos. It was one of those times I wished I had a better camera because my photos really don't do the view any justice. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. We all started with soft drinks except the grandson who always just drinks water when going out to eat. The root beer comes to you in a bottle and it was a tasty drink Three of us ordered the "Tenderfoot Filet" which consists of an 8 oz. filet. We all got ours medium rare. Each entree comes with sliced cooked carrots and a small corn on the cob. Plus, a family-sized bowl of their house salad is brought to the table. Also, a basket with biscuits and rolls comes to the table. It has 2 types of butter with it ---cinnamon butter, which was mildly flavored and plain butter. Our son-in-law had wanted to try the rattlesnake appetizer but they were all out. I wasn't heartbroken about that! He got "Rustler's cut top sirloin" which was 10 ozs. One grandson ordered "The vaquero" which consists of: " 10 ozs. of certified USDA prime sirloin with 2 enchiladas" Another grandson got "The sheriff" which is a 12 oz. piece of prime rib. As for the food---those of us who got the tenderfoot filet all liked it. It was very, well... "tender" and properly prepared. Our son-in-law liked his sirloin steak. The grandson who got "the vaquero" found himself getting full due to the big portion. The big disappointment and thus, the reason I can't go to 4 stars --- The prime rib. Not only was it tough, it was very fatty and very difficult to cut. So...my suggestion is to give this dish a pass if you go there. Otherwise, we all enjoyed the corn on the cob. It was very sweet and lightly seasoned. The carrots also were good as they were cooked just right---not too hard, not too mushy. We did enjoy the live music which was a trio doing country songs. It wasn't overly loud which we appreciated. In the end, we're glad we gave them a try. It's worth a visit but...once again...give the prime rib a pass. read more
