R+D Kitchen is such a consistent experience. To me, it's like having my favorite spicy tuna roll - it just hits the spot. I don't go here often enough, as I forget about it sometimes, but I'm so satisfied every time I do. The food is always fresh, beautifully plated, and expertly seasoned, and the service is warm and efficient. There are booths galore for seating. The ambiance can easily make for an intimate date night, dinner with your parents, or even a fun night out with friends. I might slightly prefer this place for a late lunch as the dinner crowd gets a bit loud (am I showing my age)? Definitely make a reservation for dinner, especially on weekends. read more

I ate here with my friends awhile ago. We had a good dinner. I ordered the carnitas sandwich and afterwards, we shared a banana dessert. The carnitas sandwich was flavorful with the tangy slaw and the delicious pork in the sweet buns. It was very good. The prices are kinda high since no sides comes with the entrees. Really good as with every R+D / Honor Bar/ Hillstone restaurant. Service was good and the Carnitas sandwich was a highlight.

Made a reservation at 230p for four of us, arrived and were seated immediately. Our server, Gabby, was a sweetheart, made a few suggestions and came back quick with drink orders. I ordered the Ruebenesque sandwich, wife had the chicken sandwich and our guests split a burger. Gabby came back and said they were out of the rubenesque sandwich, I switched to the chicken sandwich and it was very good. I had 2 beers, wife had 2 girly drinks, 1 of our guests had a skinny marg. All were good. Lunch for 4 with drinks and tip was 229.00 seems very expensive for basically 1 appetizer , 5 drinks and 3 meals. Probably won't be back based on the price alone. But...if you go, ask for Gabbys section, she made it worth the cost. read more

This is a great option. The only reason 4 stars is because they didn't allow us to make a reservation for 5. The server was amazing! Drink menu had pretty limited cocktails. The sushi apps were great! Very interesting avo roll. It had macadamia nuts. Also had the turkey meatballs which were good! I had the chicken sandwich which was pretty good! A few others at the table got the Asian salad and they raved on it! Overall the ambiance was great. I will start by saying that this was my first time eating out in a restaurant since early March (pre-COVID) and I was a little uneasy, but it was so worth it. The servers were all masked and there was a reasonable amount of space that made me feel more comfortable. I felt all the waitstaff were very conscientious. We started with the dip duo, which was somehow leagues better than expected; more than just chips and dip, this dish came with chunky, zesty guacamole with corn and cilantro that I lowkey wanted to just eat with a spoon. The jalapeno queso was not the velveeta yellow goo that I'm used to, but instead a substantial and hearty chunky ordeal. My partner ordered the carnitas sandwich; I'm not that into sandwiches and I was surprised how much I liked this one. The accompanying sauce was pretty weak, but the sandwich was loaded up with flavors and textures from the sweet bun to the tangy slaw and of course the succulent pork. It was a win in my book. For my own entree I ordered the yellowfish sashimi and kale salad. The fish was surprisingly coated in olive oil, but the nice pleasant flavor accentuated the fish. The sashimi was perfectly balanced by the salad; toasty sesame flavor, crunchy cabbage/kale mix and hearty cashews made for an altogether delicious combination. I loved my experience here and my only regret was not ordering more. Cant wait to go back and try more! read more

I love this place... the food is so delicious. This is probably my 4th time coming here and I traveled a distance to arrive here. Ambiance is so nice. Candles on every table... lights dimmed. It would be a great date spot. It's usually pretty packed here so I would advise making reservations. Food is delicious. The food was amazing. We started with their Dip Duo (guac and pimento cheese).. didn't sound appealing when I heard that combo, but surprisingly delightful. Good selection of wine. My salad, the Mediterranean Tuna, was top tier. My boyfriend got the hamburger, it was demolished. We took the time to look at other people's food as it came out, and we're impressed on the presentation. The ambiance was very intimate. One of our favorite date night spots in Dallas! Highly recommend a reservation!! You can take your chance at the bar but the restaurant isn't huge so having a reservation is your best bet! The drink menu looks small but they have a full menu and can make anything you'd like. I got a lemon drop martini and it was so delicious! We also tried the nigiri plate and loved it. Vegetarian options are awful. That cold, flavorless avocado roll was horrible. The service was annoying, at best. The woman was obviously new. After being turned away @3pm on a weekday while wearing a collared shirt and a solid white non-branded hat while I just wanted a celebratory drink at the bar... 2. AND THEN having another friend watch a hostess SEAT a family of 4 who outwardly exuded wealth even though their son was wearing a sleeveless tank top while 5 minutes later TURNING AWAY another family with a son wearing a tank top only because they pre-judged this family and, I guess felt they weren't worthy enough to dine there... I'm done. When did this become okay? It's not, and the fact that this is how they are training their staff and that this is how they want to be viewed? Enough. This place is an indulgent staple in our family. They've never done me wrong. Pretty please, no matter what you get, please get the cashew kale salad. It's so scrumptious. The dip duo also never goes wrong, and the salmon is 10/10. We love the fried chicken sandwich - super thin beautiful piece of meat that melts in your mouth with their flavors. Food is excellent here. They do a small menu very well. My favorite item is the tuna sandwich. My only gripe with this place is the way you are treated. It is very much a see and be seen crowd and the hostess act as if it is place where they decide whether you belong or not. Seldom will you get a seat without a reservation but even if you show up when the restaurant is empty they will look at their books closely and possibly still tell you they are fully committed. read more

My favorite out of the Hillstone chains. I found this place after visiting Honor Bar but I prefer this much more. Much more light, space, and seating. I like the bigger menu options as well. One weird thing is that they've been especially picky with my boyfriend's hats, both as we enter and in our seats, but whenever we look around, we see both males and females wearing hats. Early New Year's dinner went very well. Our server Anja was new but did a fine job. The menu is understandably sparse since they also do sushi. We split the pine salad, as on a prior visit. It was crisp and tasty. The meatloaf is a staple and I had the rotisserie chicken this time. The chicken was tender and moist, and the juice was delicious. The menu is seasonal, and we look forward to more fish dishes in the summer. Overall the food Is more stylized, versus casual dining. Perfectly average for a well above average bill. Overall, this R&D location is a shell compared to their Napa location, and it feels like false advertising to hold the same name. My wife and I had an 8:30 reservation, and from the moment we arrived, it felt like we were a burden to the wait staff. No one smiled. We were sat in the back corner behind the bar even though the restaurant had plenty of better seating options. Drink-wise - I got a cocktail because their wine menu is pretty bland. The majority of by the glass options being bottles you can buy at Central Market for less than the cost of the class. Even the bottle options felt on par with the selection at a 7-11. Food-wise - Just OK. Nothing special to warrant the elevated price. Staff - No one seemed to want to be there. The waitstaff took orders as if we had burdened them. read more

The service was great, but she was really able enhance our experience! We had the double dip, coconut sushi roll, Greek style chicken, and the fudge sundae! Everything was phenomenal. We tried R+D kitchen last night. We didn't have a reservation and walked in on a Saturday night around 7, the wait was about 30 minutes which isn't bad for a Saturday night. We ordered a few things and shared it so we can try everything. Overall everything was delicious. My favorite was probably the chicken sandwich. Our waiter Taylor was very nice and attentive and checked on us multiple times. Food and atmosphere is perfect for date night and we will be back for sure. read more

I recently was there for lunch and ordered a tuna sandwich and requested rye instead of white bread. Server said "rye will be on the side'. I told her I wanted the sandwich not on side. Another person came to the table and said it wasn't possible. They served me the rye on the side and I asked them to take it back and make a sandwich. They refused and I told them to take it back and remove from my bill. We spoke to the mgr on the way out and she said "there is a method to their madness". They make a sandwich with white bread but rye must be on the side. We will never go back there. They would rather lose customers than strive to please. Rarely do I find myself posting reviews for restaurants, I grew up in the service industry and I understand how difficult the day to day operations can be. That said, I've had one of the worst dining experiences in Dallas at R&D. We do not live in Dallas, we are here visiting family and trying to survive the heat. We arrive and told after waiting some time that men in tank tops are against dress code (plenty of visible shoulders in the restaurant, flip flops, backward hats, etc), literally have to run back to where we are staying to change. I understand some places have dress codes, but we usually expect some grace in this heat / for people who do not know, not to mention a significant amount of other diners were not complying with said dress code, felt pretty singled out. Food-wise, ordered the yellowtail salmon Kale salad, the salad had a mealy texture and yellowtail had a poor taste. Another person in the party had a pretty poor salad as well. Frankly I expected more for them today, I understand organizations miss the mark sometimes but this was quite memorable and demeaning. read more
