I had an incredible experience at Sushi | Bar! I just finished my first year of grad school and wanted to treat myself. I made a same day reservation for Sunday night. I appreciate that their reservation site provided all the information I needed to make an informed decision (pricing, how it works, etc.). When I checked in I was offered sake but since i'm not drinking they accommodated me with sparkling green tea (which was soooo good). The wait was a bit longer than I expected. I checked in at 7:35 for my 7:45 reservation, we weren't seated until 8:10. The hostess was apologetic about the wait. The restaurant itself is in a basement and it's a typical quaint chef's experience with about 10 seats in an intimate space. I loved the decor and vibe. The staff was very friendly, they all introduced themselves and walked us through how the omakase experience worked. We had a 17 course tasting menu and I enjoyed every bite. Loved that the chefs explained every dish and gave us the origin of the fish. My favorite was the Kanpachi, but everything was delicious and tasted fresh. I had a yummy mocktail and our "spirit guide" let me try a non alcoholic champagne which I loved. After dinner we were led into Ginger's which is a speakeasy next door that I've been to a few times. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The only thing I would change is the number of seats. I felt cramped. read more

I don't know which came first Sushi Bar or Sushi by Scratch but they're both good. I compare the two restaurants because they both have the same vibe. Sushi Bar also feels like a "speakeasy" sushi place. You go downstairs to eat then after you're done you're led out to a bar. Sushi Bar is a modern sushi restaurant. Modern in terms of the nigiri pieces you get; lots of toppings and sauce. My favorite piece was the toro with shaved foie gras on top... butter on butter. If you like Sushi by Scratch you will like Sushi Bar; or vice versa. read more

First you met with pleasant hostess that will ensure all of the allergies and dietary restrictions are noted for you and provide you with delicious sake welcome drink. Sushi | Bar is a polished, high-touch omakase that gets some fundamentals right. Fish quality is excellent, knife work is clean, and the rice hits the sweet spot for temperature, grain, and seasoning. On paper that should add up to a terrific meal. In practice the experience is compromised by a garnish playbook that repeats itself course after course until the signal gets lost. Piece after piece arrived wearing a loud combination of crunch, citrus volatiles, infused oil, and a prickle of heat. The first bite reads as vivid. By the third or fourth, the palate fatigue sets in and the fish becomes a substrate for the topping rather than the point of the bite. Sushi, at its best, is about shari and neta, cut and temperature, with accents that tune the fish without drowning it. Here the accents became the main event. Even when a component was tasty on its own, the stacking of crumble, zest, flavored salt, and chile pushed everything into the same register. Dynamic range flattened, and the meal began to feel like the same idea in slightly different costumes. I enjoy intensity and experimentation, and I am happy to be taken on a strange journey when the menu has contour. The issue is architecture, not ambition. Give me contrast and a few quiet pieces that let the fish come into focus, then let the fireworks return. As it stands, the house leans on a garnish kit rather than a coherent voice, and at this price point that choice makes the meal feel less like omakase and more like a tasting of toppings. Service was friendly and the room is intimate and well run. With some restraint in sequencing and a lighter hand on the finishing elements, this could be a standout. Food - Each omakase seating is different. What remains the same is the use of high quality, unique sushi paired with incredible ingredients. Since every dinner is different, I don't think describing what I ate will do Sushi | Bar and its chef justice. What I'll say is my favorite sushi bite was salmon, but it was a special fatty salmon that was served with a little sprinkle of fried shallots over a trace amount of truffle oil. The single bite was room temperature, soft from the sushi, crunchy from the shallots, with a smooth hint of truffle. You eat each piece by hand, as you are only given a towel to wipe your hands between each bite of sushi. It's not cheap, but it shouldn't be. It's super high quality. 2 Star. Will I Return? - Yes (but only after I save up). If you're reading this review, you're probably deciding if it's worth it. It is. Book it for a very special occasion. I honestly didn't think any sushi place in DFW could beat Hatsuyuki, but this place was phenomenal - definitely the best choice if you're on the D side of DFW (though for the difference in price, I'll still make Hatsuyuki my go-to). Sushi Bar offers a very intimate unique omakase experience with exquisite flavors and pairings. The atmosphere is quiet but still a bit lively, especially with the frequent interaction (and jokes) from the 3 chefs serving up bite size sushi delights. Honestly, their interaction really elevated the experience and made it more fun and less stuffy than expected. Reservations likely required, include a nonrefundable deposit, and don't expect to leave for under $200/pp if you have anything to drink. But for the occasional reward or celebration? We were celebrating and others got happy birthdays but we had an anniversary and totally ignored and I Just spent $700 for the worst omakase! I don't mind the money it's the soggy rice that ruined every bite and the not so great service and attitude. From both the person serving the drinks and the chefs. Maybe because I've had exceptional experience, service and quality from the sushi pop up at Adolphus but to spend this much and each bite was just ruined... We had our anniversary dinner here and it did not disappoint! The entrance wasn't hard to find because there was a sign next to the door. The waiting area is a bit rustic and small but we were greeted with a welcome champagne. The entire dinner party was not able to find seats. We were invited to the dining room right at our reservation time. Each bites of the 16 nigiris were truly amazing. We especially enjoyed the unique ways they were seasoned. The one nigiri that we weren't a fan of was a one that had strawberry jam. We were also sad with the amount of uni. Overall, a great experience and can see why people are hyped with sushi bar's omakase. Parking was easy to find and I was not able to find valet parking. May be it was at the front of the building. Okay okay okay... 2nd visit here was something special. This is very easily becoming a top favorite of ours for Omakase experiences we've had. Sushi | Bar is definitely a very different atmosphere and ambiance in comparison to some we have experienced in Dallas. Tatsu, Namo, Shoyo all fall under more traditional and formal... but Sushi | Bar offers such a fun, unique, but still semi formal omakase environment. You shoot the shit with the sushi chefs and they're still so incredibly professional with their craft, Incredibly knowledgeable with the fish, the origin, etc and put on such a great omakase experience... they all have such great personalities. On top of all this, the fish quality and rice quality is spectacular. Spending $165pp is absolutely worth it. This would be the place I highly recommend as a first time omakase experience for someone. This time around, we went for my husbands birthday with some great friends and we were so thankful to share such an incredible sushi experience with them. This 17 course omakase came in nearly perfect as every nigiri was phenomenal and I had a hard time trying to pick which bite was better. The nigiri and the ingredients all together provide SO much depth (both texturally and flavor). They have perfected this science. Truly a work of art. Everything works. Chef Tony was superb! Our first omakase was a little intimidating going in - I'd never had a 17 course meal - but was left wanting more food. I left full but not the full I'm used to from eating a lot all at once. This was such a good experience. You could really taste the quality in fish with the combined ingredients. This is a can't miss omakase experience! We had reservations for the 9:30pm seating on a Wednesday night - they recommended arriving 20 minutes prior so that you can select your add-ons prior to the dinner. Paid parking is literally 5 steps away, around the corner, but there is also valet. There is a fun speakeasy atmosphere and the dim lighting makes it feel more cozy and intimate- perfect for a date night (but not really for pictures, at least for an amateur like me). The chefs were fun and talkative, even encouraged conversation between the other guests. The food was magnificent- very unique flavor combinations (Madai with peach and cardamom jam, amberjack with jalapeño jam and black garlic, unagi fried in bone marrow) and incredibly fresh fish. I cannot stop thinking about how delicious the food was. I am incredibly sad that I cannot have this dinner more often - it is pricey! They have a few add-ons to choose from - I personally would skip the white truffle and foi gras (it was grated, not a thick slice so I didn't think it was worth the price) but I would recommend the caviar for the wagyu course. The portions of each course were nice as well. The dessert course was probably my least favorite, as I have just had better elsewhere, but it was delicious! Again, I wish I could afford to make this a regular dinner place. If you can, you should definitely try this omakase! read more

They had a nice sake menu and had some add ons for guest (we didn't get any). The fish was incredibly fresh and the way they seasoned each course was absolutely phenomenal. The chefs were the best! Having been to Sushi Bar ATX, this location had the exact same interior setup, except this location was located in a basement. In terms of service and quality of food, both locations are very similar but in the ATX location, I was offered the option of 2 pieces of newly created sushi for more money, and that was a great option. I would recommend skipping the extra toppings on the sushi as I felt that they don't add much to the experience for the price they charged. If you want to experience a predominantly sushi omakase, then this is the best place I've been to so far in DFW. I brought my 2 kids to this place and they really enjoyed it and it was a very memorable experience for them. read more
