Vegetable Tempura
Andrew C.

This is an unassuming family owned sushi restaurant in a strip mall. This place can sit roughly 20ish people and the service here is so very nice. I tend to come here when in town and dining solo and they've always been welcoming. The cuts of nigiri and sashimi are generous cuts by today's standards. I tend to mix up my order here and usually order way too much: Salad - a hefty portion of greens with a ginger sesame dressing Tempura - I like their vegetable tempura. A mix of veggies battered and golden fried. Nigiri and sashimi - nice cuts and well prepared. I like the botan ebi and fatty tuna. Will be back when I'm in the area.

Yellow tail, snow crab

Sushi was decent. The sushi was very cold, I didn't like the temperature of it. My spicy tuna in my roll was a bit mushy. Service was okay. Ambiance, small intimate restaurant. Snow crab nigiri was great. Would I return? Yes..

Shishido peppers

A fantastic dining experience. The service was great, food was excellent, and a small business environment. Let me start with the Philly. We started with Shishido peppers and the yellowtail carpaccio. Also, the cucumber, shrimp and squid salad was awesome. We were a bunch of rules, which were all good. Everything was fresh and the temperature of the sushi was perfect not too cold or too warm like some places. We closed out the night with a tempura fried green tea ice cream.

Sashimi of Toro; Yellowtail; Shima-Aji; Premium Yellowtail - fresh and lovely sliced! (03/22/24)

Bright and Cheerful Neighborhood Sushi Bar. Friendly and Attentive Service. With future visits, I'll be skipping their heavily battered 'shrimp tempura' and not refined 'rice'. Instead of ordering sushi, I am anticipating to be smiling big once again at their generous portions of incredibly fresh "Sashimi", including Toro; Yellowtail; and, Shima-Aji! CHEERS!

Soft Drinks come in bottles

Cute little hole in the wall- family owed restaurant. They were all super friendly. All the rolls are pretty standard Dallas prices $11-$20 rolls. I got the golden California roll and the Cajun Crawfish Roll. I thought they were both good, I didn't think they were over the top or anything, but I've heard that their really good rolls are raw. So since mine weren't the raw rolls, maybe that's why I wasn't blown away. If you order a soft drink, they come from the bottle (not fountain), which is totally fine. Overall I'd go back.

Wasn't too busy on a Friday night, and got seated right away. Seems like a more casual sushi spot but the food was still very good, I would definitely come back! Also conveniently located right next to Bowen House.

Had a great dining experience here! Was traveling for work and was seeking a solo sushi date and this was the perfect spot! I got to sit right in front of sushi chefs, watching them make the different rolls which I always enjoy. Service was quick and friendly. The sushi was delicious and fresh. Would definitely return if they had one of these where I live. Would recommend for a great, casual sushi spot.

I am a little bit torn on posting this review. Maji has some of the best sushi I've ever had, but I hope it doesn't get too busy to where I can never get a table. We started with the shrimp tempura because they were out of the baby octopus tempura. The shrimp was very good, and the batter was light and crispy. Octopus next time! Next, we moved onto the salmon tartare which has a very unique presentation, and it was amazing - - fresh salmon and perfectly ripe avocados topped with an egg yolk. It is always difficult to get a runny egg just right, and this one was perfect. It was runny but with a little bit of stickiness that helped hold everything together in the dish. After that, we got 2 types of nigiri, unagi and a different type of maguro (forgot the name but melts in the mouth). Then, the chef brought out an additional tuna with a special soy sauce that was slightly seared. It was phenomenal and had a slightly smoky taste to it. We tried the Snow Mountain Roll (yellowtail, crab, white tuna with rice and two sauces) and the Tuna Lover Roll (no rice, salmon, crab, and avocado wrapped in soy paper then topped with tuna and yuzu ponzu). The inside is cute and only holds 39 people. The only suggestion I have is to put some pillows along the bench seat to lean against. They serve all filtered water, and the service was great. Dallas really needs more restaurants like this that are small, cozy, and unique with character. Everything here was top-notch! Highly recommend and added some photos of the dishes we tried and the inside (at lunchtime).

Amazing!

I have to admit when I arrived I was bothered because it smelled like there might be some plumbing issues. I thought, let's just eat fast and get going since the reviews are great. After ordering, our food didn't come for close to an hour. About 50 minutes, I kindly asked if she knew why it was taking so long. She mentioned there was only one chef for the day and he takes his time. I regretted asking because the quality was so good. My friend said "I saw he takes his time like he is perfecting each piece." I tried the unagi, I've never paid $5 for *one* piece and I couldn't help but order a few more! The chef later came over to apologize and offered a discount. I said no we can not accept(the food and quality was too good, worthy of the cost and wait.) He offered dessert and we couldn't pass that up lol the cheesecake was absolutely divine, I could cry. Overall I can see the chef is very passionate about his craft and must have learned from someone who also takes pride in their craft. Would love to eat here again.

Avocado bomb and Salmon/Tuna sashimi
Andrew H.

Amazing food, great service! For appetizers ordered the avocado bomb and veggie tempura, both were great and the price was very fair for a sushi spot. Tempura breading was not too thick, veggies were delicious. We followed that up with sake (salmon) and maguro (tuna) sashimi. It was clear from the moment our server set it down that the cut was high quality, and flavor did NOT disappoint! The next course was a pair of sushi rolls, both were delicious and clearly prepared with care. The chef even gave us a couple specials free of charge, both tasty and very much appreciated! I live near the beach in California, a place where seafood rarely disappoints. I was not expecting sushi in Dallas to be amazing (something about the landlocked nature makes me doubt the quality) but this is some of the best sushi I've had regardless of locations! I'll absolutely be back, and a thanks to the chefs and the servers that made our night so special!!

A new addition to Uptown Dallas, we have enjoyed every visit. The menu is varied and creative. We particularly like the Salmon Tartare and apologize for not being able to label each picture. They have a nice selection of riceless rolls, Bento boxes for lunch and very fresh, tasty fish!

For dessert I had the deep fried cheesecake - I think the last time I had this I was 12 at Mr. sushi in Boston and all my memories came back. I appreciate that their reservation site provided all the information I needed to make an informed decision (pricing, how it works, etc.). I checked in at 7:35 for my 7:45 reservation, we weren't seated until 8:10. The hostess was apologetic about the wait. The restaurant itself is in a basement and it's a typical quaint chef's experience with about 10 seats in an intimate space. I loved the decor and vibe. The staff was very friendly, they all introduced themselves and walked us through how the omakase experience worked. We had a 17 course tasting menu and I enjoyed every bite. Loved that the chefs explained every dish and gave us the origin of the fish. My favorite was the Kanpachi, but everything was delicious and tasted fresh. I had a yummy mocktail and our "spirit guide" let me try a non alcoholic champagne which I loved. After dinner we were led into Ginger's which is a speakeasy next door that I've been to a few times. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The only thing I would change is the number of seats. I felt cramped.
