First time at this new spot and was amazing! Very open, we sat at the bar and was able to chat with the chef on things we liked/disliked for him to recommend. Everything was made fresh and even had "off the menu" offerings the wait staff told us about.

Sugoi is the newest sushi bar in the neighborhood and has been on the list for tries for some time now. We went on a Friday night and it was surprisingly open and not very busy. We sat at the sushi bar, did the basic omakase and some sake. Everything was phenomenal, we started with two appetizers, multiple nigiri's, some hot dishes and desert. Every fish was so well prepared, and the wagyu pho had to be one of the most unique dishes of the night. Can't wait to come back and try some happy hour items.

Love, love, love the sushi here! Came with my friend for happy hour and we ordered a selection of food to try! As usual, the service was amazing and sushi fresh! Will definitely return!

I went to Sugoi for the Premium Omakase set during dinner time. I was seated at the bar. First things first, unlike the majority of other sushi places, Sugoi actually focuses on the rice as well as the fish. The rice here was nicely cooked and seasoned. You can clearly tell the difference after tasting it. Like most omakase meals, you start out with some crudo dishes. These were good and on par with other upper-end sushi restaurants. The nigiri was enhanced by the rice I mentioned previously. Some of the pieces that stood out to me was the Engawa, Akami, and the Masu. The remaining pieces are comparable to the other omakases in DFW. The second thing that differentiates Sugoi Omakase from the rest is instead of receiving a bowl of Miso Soup, you will get a small bowl of Pho. Yes, you heard correctly, a small bowl of Pho. The head chef, Jack, is Vietnamese and he wanted to insert some different flavors for the diners so this is what he chose to do. I was surprised because the Pho is quite good... I would say it can beat out a lot of the Pho restaurants in town. Unfortunately you only get to taste this if you order the Premium Omakase at dinner time. The restaurant is nice and clean. The service was attentive. I was told there are plans to locate the omakase experience upstairs for a more intimate experience.

Had an absolutely amazing experience at Sugoi! Hands down some of the best fish I've had in Dallas - but the rice was also good perfectly. Service was amazing, chef Danny explained each piece and talked us through each course. Ambiance was beautiful, very relaxing vibe. Can't wait to come back!

The food was amazing!! We sat at the sushi bar and got to see everything made. The sushi was fresh and melt in your mouth butter. The ambience was great with tall ceilings and the place did not feel noisy although it was a full restaurant. The service was exceptional and will be back for sure! Parking is easy and location is great.

Incredible sushi and service. Highly recommend!! Sit at the bar for the opportunity to chat with the head sushi chef who is super kind and knowledgeable.

Food and service was amazing. Staff was very knowledgeable and suggested many off menus items that were delicious. A nice quiet place to have a date night or go with friends to have a conversation.

This is the Sylvan Roll. It was Delish! Also had the Parker Roll. It was fabulous, too!

I was very hesitant to come back, but my boyfriend suggested giving them another chance. Tonight was WORSE! The food is not good and there are not a lot of options for sushi rolls (I think they have six options, mostly fried). I ordered the lychee martini, which was also not good. Our server came once for our food and did not check on us again the entire meal, which is unfortunate because they did not bring us wasabi and ginger, and there was no soy sauce at the table. We put cash on the bill and left, only for us to be chased down by our server about a block to let us know we were short $5. (Tax) I understand we accidentally were short but being chased down after you've already left the establishment, especially over $5, is insane work. I was originally disappointed, now I'm just truly upset. I will not be eating here again and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. They do play good house music though.

Honestly, if you told me, I'd find Tokyo train station energy in the middle of Dallas, I'd assume you mixed up your flight connections. First the service. Crazy good. Fast, friendly, shockingly, competent, and basically everything you don't mentally prepare for when someone says, let's get Ramen in Texas. It's more attentive than what I'm used to standing Ramen, to be honest basically they are self serve. So if the service is bad at your own fault. Finding the place, however? A quest. Google, yelp, Apple maps all tried their best and still acted like I was searching for the lost city of Atlantis. Even now, I'm not convinced I can find it again without divine intervention. A treasure hunt for Ramen at the end of the rainbow is only cardio I'm signing up for. Confession, I'm not even a Ramen fan. Like at all. And yet. OMG. I ordered the weekly special, the Rose cream Ramen, which is basically Korean tteobokki rose sauce but instead of chewy rice cakes, you get chewy Ramen noodles living their best life. It's creamy, spicy, comforting, and absolutely worth popping a Lactaid for. Lactose intolerant folks, unite and suffer intolerance together and noodle induced bliss. I have to admit this bowl was spot on amazing. Honestly, better than the instant Ramen I tossed into my Rose tteobokki at home, and I don't say that lightly because that combo has carried me through some dark times. Parking? Well let's just say walking from far away was a blessing. After inhaling that bowl, I needed to trek a walk of the incoming food coma, that was swallowing me whole. Impossible to find. Impossible not to love. And absolutely impossible to believe it's in Dallas, Texas.

The inside is tiny and there isn't even a proper "waiting" area. I've also tried coming here before, and there was also a long wait. I'm glad I decided to stick it out this time. We ordered the Wagyu sushi, Yakitori, Tonkotsu Miso Ramen, and the Tomato Ramen. The Wagyu sushi is torched right in front of you! The Wagyu was incredibly tender and the sauce was delicious. My only *nitpicky* critique is the rice was ever so slightly too moist, but that didn't stop me from inhaling the sushi. Next, the Yakitori was phenomenal. I've never had such tender chicken in my life. There was a nice layer of delicious sauce coating the skewer. Again, just a really nitpicky feedback I have was that I wish the Yakitori had the tiniest bit more char to it, but nevertheless was an incredible bite, and I'd 100% order again in a heartbeat. Onto the ramen - easily hands down one of the best ramen I've had in DFW. The broth is flavorful, and I love the noodles. I'm not sure if they're handmade from scratch, but they had the perfect thickness and chewiness. I also loved generous the portion of cha shu slices. Most other places only give you 1-2 thin slices, but that was not the case here. The pork was tender. The ajitama was solid too, although I prefer more of a soft-boiled egg. While the meat portion is more generous here, the tonkotsu didn't come with many vegetables. A lot of other ramen places I've been to will have corn, fried garlic, etc as default, but those are all additional cost add-ons here. The ramen was delicious without them though but just something to note. We also got the tomato ramen as it's the chef recommendation. The dish is very creative and the execution was great. Personally, I still prefer traditional ramens but it was certainly a nice culinary creation to try. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place and would come here again. Just be aware there may be a wait, and because they're so busy, you do have to proactively flag down staff. However, the staff are still really nice despite all the tasks they're juggling at once.

The restaurant has a window to talk with a person but you must order your food via an iPad, which failed the first time we tried. The attendant pulled himself out of the window and leaned on the ledge to fix the problem. Unexpectedly, the person came out of the building to deliver the food. Seating is all outdoors meaning customers will seek alternatives if the weather is too hot, cold or wet. So that puts it in the category of a food truck with a fixed location that is difficult to find, in an inconvenient area. While the location is not close to anyplace, the neighborhood has some new construction, which will help establish the restaurant but not for several months. We only found the place because we had been to Sandwich Hag but don't expect great signage. The dirt driveway is immediately past the building and paved parking is in the rear. Strangely, the outdoor seating is mostly unpaved (dirt and rocks) but cars park on a nice concrete pad. While the food is good, I fear the lack of indoor seating, lack of service, remote location, and poor signage will take its toll on the success of the restaurant. Hopefully the rent is low enough that the restaurant can be profitable and establish itself.

Our table was seated directly beneath an air vent that was actively dripping water. During dinner, the water repeatedly dripped onto me. After notifying the staff the first time, they simply wiped down the vent while food was being served rather than offering to reseat our party. When I brought the issue to their attention a second time, the response was the same; they wiped it down, but the dripping continued throughout the remainder of the meal. For a restaurant at this price point, I expected a more proactive solution and better attention to guest comfort. Additionally, our group ordered the Demon Slayer 300 mL sake, priced at $55. After pouring the sake, our server, Adonis, took the bottle away with him, even though we understood that the bottle was intended to remain at the table for our party. This added to the confusion and frustration surrounding the overall experience. As a first-time guest, I was looking forward to an enjoyable dining experience, but the lack of attention to these issues left me disappointed. While the food may have been enjoyable, the service and handling of these concerns fell short of expectations, particularly given the cost of dining here.

I went to Japan recently. I want to start there because the Japan trip is directly relevant to this…read morereview in a way that will become clear shortly and also in a way that is deeply embarrassing and I have made peace with both of those things simultaneously. Japan was extraordinary. The food was extraordinary. The trains were extraordinary. The trains specifically deserve their own paragraph because I have never in my life encountered a public transportation system that operates with the precision and quiet dignity of the Japanese rail network. Trains that arrive at the exact second they are supposed to arrive. Trains that leave at the exact second they are supposed to leave. A whole society of people moving through stations the size of small cities with calm purpose and zero visible distress, consulting their phones, reading books, buying things from vending machines that should not logically exist inside a train station but do because Japan has decided that convenience is a human right and I agree completely. I tell you all of this to explain what happened at the train station when we tried to find pizza. Now I know what you are thinking. You went to Japan and you tried to find pizza. And yes. Yes we did. We had been eating spectacular Japanese food for several days running, food that made us question every culinary decision we had made in our entire lives up to that point, and then something happened in the group dynamic that can only be explained as a collective temporary insanity and somebody said what about pizza and instead of saying no we are in Japan and there is yakitori available within forty feet of us at all times, everybody said yeah okay pizza sounds good actually. The station we were in had approximately forty seven exits. I counted. Not all of them. I counted forty seven before I gave up counting and simply accepted that exits were infinite and directional signage was a suggestion. We had been told the pizza place was near exit B14. There was no exit B14. There was a B4 and a B41 and something that might have been B14 but was labeled in a way that required a level of kanji literacy I had not developed in the forty eight hours since landing. We walked for twenty two minutes. We passed the same Family Mart three times which I know because the same employee was stocking the same shelf each time and by the third pass he looked at us with an expression of gentle recognition and what I can only describe as compassionate pity. We never found the pizza place. We found a ramen shop instead and ate the best bowl of ramen of our collective lives and agreed to never speak of the pizza incident again except that I am speaking of it right now because it is directly relevant to the fact that when I came back to Dallas and needed Japanese food that did not require navigating a forty seven exit train station, I went to Tei Tei Robata Bar on Henderson Avenue and everything was immediately right with the world. Tei Tei has been on Henderson Avenue since the late nineties. Founder Teiichi Sakurai, who is also the man behind Tei An which if you have not been to Tei An please go immediately after reading this review and before doing anything else in your life, has been a James Beard semifinalist six times which is the kind of number that should be printed somewhere more prominently than it currently is, like on a highway billboard or possibly the side of a building. You walk in through a Japanese garden to get to the entrance. A Japanese garden. In Dallas. On Henderson Avenue. Between a taco place and a bar with a patio. I walked through it after the forty seven exit train station and my blood pressure dropped twelve points immediately and I have no medical evidence for this but I am confident it is true. Robata is the traditional Northern Japanese grill style. Wood charcoal. Low heat. Slow intention. Things arrive on skewers that have been coaxed rather than forced into deliciousness. The miso sea bass is the kind of dish that people describe by going quiet for a moment first. The cornflake shrimp is a thing that should not work as a concept and works completely as a reality. The daily special comes out in three parts, raw, robata, and more, and each part is a small argument for why you should be paying better attention to what you eat every day of your life. The sashimi sits in a case on ice near the kitchen and you can watch the chefs working with a calm precision that is genuinely meditative to observe, like a train system that runs on the exact second it is supposed to run, quiet and intentional and doing exactly what it is supposed to do without any drama about it. I sat at the sushi bar and ate things I will not fully describe because some experiences should be discovered and not spoiled. I thought about the ramen we found instead of the pizza we were looking for and decided that getting lost is sometimes the whole point.
