Tuna and Yellowtail Nigiri, with Dragon Roll.
    David J.

Zen Sushi Delivery: Fast. Convenient. Same great quality. I've been eating at Zen Sushi in Bishop Arts since they first opened in the late 2000s. It's a cozy neighborhood spot with serious culinary chops--award-winning sushi with a lot of heart. I always recommend Zen Sushi and love dining there in person. But sometimes you just want sushi without the drive, parking, or hassle of a night out. You just want great sushi, at home. So, let's talk delivery... I get it--sushi delivery sounds sketchy. But Zen is the real deal. Established, consistent, and high-quality. So how did their delivery hold up? In a word: perfect. The website was easy to navigate, the order process was smooth, and they beat their 35-minute delivery estimate by a solid 10 minutes. Everything arrived carefully packaged--sealed, clean, and clearly handled with care. I don't eat out of styrofoam like a caveman. I like to re-plate and enjoy the experience as if I were dining in. When the sushi arrived, I popped the main course in the fridge for a few minutes while I plated and enjoyed the appetizers: beef gyoza and edamame. Both arrived warm and flavorful. Then came the main event--Tuna and Yellowtail Nigiri, plus a Dragon Roll. Letting them chill briefly brought everything back to the ideal serving temperature. (Honestly, they would've been fine right out of the box, but that quick fridge reset made it even better.) Bottom line: don't hesitate to order delivery from Zen Sushi. The quality you expect is still there, and you get to enjoy it in your own space, no parking meter required. Highly recommended.

Irene was so sweet and helpful. I appreciated her knowledge and diligence in serving our dinner. The octopus and tuna sashimi was delightful! I loved their yellowtail and have been craving more. Quiet for a Saturday night, and that was nice for an intimate dinner date. See you again soon, Zen!

This restaurant is located in a hip artisan district. I really enjoyed the sushi here. It was quite tasty. It has a hip and modern interior with an upscale vibe. The service was great at this restaurant.

I just stopped by for a quick, late bite. The people who served me were attentive and friendly. The sushi was a bit pricey but also good quality. I was just expecting bigger rolls for the price. The ambience was okay. I'd definitely come back if in the area.

Zen Sushi is a nice establishment and the go-to Bishop Arts sushi spot, but is lacking in all the areas required to reach 5-star status. The décor, service quality, and sushi taste isn't up to par with the price. The Bishop Arts District already has so many unique fine dining establishments (E.g. Paradiso, Lucia, Nora, Eno's, etc.) that Zen Sushi feels a little been-there-done-that. If I were Zen I'd try to occupy the niche that Bishop Arts doesn't have yet: A chill, cheap, open-late sushi spot that caters to locals with a smaller/cozier dining room and fewer operating costs. Perhaps even better, ramp up the website to place an emphasis on take-out and update the menu to highlight Asian night-in staples like fried rice and dumplings. The food was great but under the existing vibe and price I think Zen is relegated to 4-star status.

Our Server Alyssa was very attentive and very nice! They took care of us in a timely manner and the food was amazing! Brayan did a fantastic job with all the rolls! 10/10 we will be back!

The sushi is GREAT, however, it is pretty expensive so be warned. I usually get any of the sushi dishes with spicy mayo.

Nice place for a date. I enjoyed the green menu with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. The vegetable gyoza was delicious and I'd go back again just for that. There was only one sushi chef when I went which wasn't a big deal for me but the waitress was very apologetic and attentive because of that. The sushi however wasn't the best I've had, it was good but not worth going back again to get.

Vegan Inari maki, spider roll, California moon, jalapeño roll (left to right)

Went November 26th. Zen is a neat place in bishop and has some good things for sure but could use a couple things to put it over the top. I had the miso soup which I found more than a little disappointing (wouldn't recommend). The sushi was good we tried the vegan Inari maki, spider roll, California moon, and jalapeño roll. Of these I would say the California moon was the best and most surprising. The menu seems to be catered more toward vegan/vegetarian so I would say this is a great place for that crowd.

Food Malaysian Roti- (2 pc, 9.5$)- 9.5/10 Was perfectly flaky and crispy. Came with a flavorful curry dipping sauce. Chili Garlic Edamame- (8$)- 7/10 Everything you would expect. However, it could have more of the chili garlic sauce. They do give you a complementary tray of spicy sauces (including chili oil), so this was not a big deal. Korean Twice Fried Wings- (5 for 14$)- 10/10 Wings were large, so one was the perfect appetizer for a single person. Coated in a heavenly gochujang garlic glaze. Nice and saucy while still being very crispy and juicy. Was my favorite dish we ordered. Pad Thai- (16.5$)- 8.5/10 Came with a fried egg, shrimp, and chicken. When we walked in, the hostess had a poor attitude and was off putting. Unfriendly and borderline rude. We made sure to get there as soon as they opened because we knew it would be dead, and we'd have better luck at quicker service. Unfortunately, they sat us outside because we had our ESA animal in an enclosed carrier after grilling us about what services he performs, and I believe we were forgotten about since we were the only ones on the porch. It was a very warm day with high humidity. I asked the hostess if she could make sure the fans were on since it was so hot, and she asked, "So, you want me to turn them off?" We only ordered two apps of Roti Canai, one order of the twice friend wings, and an order or the donuts (all were ordered at once to help speed things along since it was so hot outside.) It took quite a while, and the wings came out soggy and cold, which is not the norm. A thunderstorm was coming in, and we had been waiting on our donuts for at least 20 minutes at this point. My husband informed the hostess that we would have to either cancel the order or move inside since it was about to start raining. She flippantly said that she would have to ask the manager first if we were allowed inside. We were so turned off that it really ruined the experience, and it was not the way we wanted to celebrate Mother's Day. The donuts finally came out (also cold), and I had my husband just give her the credit card without the check so we could hurry up and get off the porch before it started coming down. We rushed through the dessert and left. Not loving our experience and not sure if we'll be back until the attitude and service changes. We're bummed because we were always a fan of this place until now.
