I just recently moved to Dallas & I was recommended Namo a few times so I decided to go on a solo date out. My husband was out of town for a work trip so I thought why not ! I didn't have a reservation & I was hoping I can slide into a seat at the sushi bar. When I arrived I was greeted by Vivian, she was so sweet & welcoming. I instantly knew by her hospitality that if she wasn't able to seat me, I would come back. She was able to get me on a short wait until a seat opened at the sushi bar. I was more than happy to wait, I was offered a beverage while I waited but opted for just water tonight. The manager Alexander came back to see if I needed anything while I waited for my seat. I was seated at the sushi bar & greeted by my server. Her name was Sayaka. She has such a warm smile & energy about her. She explained the menu since it was my first time. Then I proceeded to order, I ordered a handful of nigiri's. My sushi chef was Joseph! He was so friendly, knowledgeable and made other great suggestions aside from what I ordered. Delicious sushi spot that we found on Resy. Was easy to get to, parking is mostly street but walkable, especially because Namo is in a well lit shopping area. We ordered a few nigiri pieces and new style rolls. Everything was delicious, and fresh as they proud themselves in. Toro was luscious and melted in the mouth, as good toro should. Scallops in the Aburi roll was so good, fresh and crisp-best words to describe. Had a great experience, was quick especially with sushi making right in front you. Came with my lovely friend to celebrate my birthday (Scorpio!) and she definitely picked an amazing spot! There's ample parking in the parking garage (and it's free) and the walk to the restaurant is short. Our waitress, Taylor, was so sweet, attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu. She provided except service! However, I may add that we were unaware the restaurant closes at 230PM (reopens at 5PM) and we had a reservation for 2PM - which made for a very grumpy sushi chef towards the end of our meal (we finished around 330PM). Nevertheless, the experience and sushi were still very pleasant (we sat at the sushi bar). We tried the flights of sake and although it was a good experience, I settled on a glass of wine. We both ordered the lunch omakase and it's the perfect size and flow. I really enjoyed the katsuo sashimi and the miso soup (it wasn't overly salty). The nigiri was extremely fresh and tasty - my faves were the chuturo and aki jake! We ordered additional nigiri - 2 unagi and 1 chuturo and 1 sake - my friend received her 2 unagi but unfortunately the sushi chef just gave me an unagi and chuturo - very unfortunate. I like the ankimo that Namo has, they know how to prepare it. Now where I think the bill got out of control was when we ordered the different types of Uni (sea urchin). Tried Namo for the first time and it definitely lived up to the hype. I didn't go for the omakase. Just ordered à la carte and honestly, everything I tried was super fresh and really well done. The space is small and sleek, and I loved sitting at the bar where you can watch the chefs work. It feels elevated but still chill, not stuffy or overly fancy. I ordered a few pieces of nigiri and a hand roll and all of it was great. The fish is high quality, and everything is super clean and simple in the best way. You can tell they really care about what they're serving. Overall though, I'd totally come back. Great date night spot or just a nice treat-yourself meal if you love sushi. read more

Namo is situated in a cute little shopping area in uptown with indoor and heated outdoor seating. We were seated outside and even in the winter it was very comfortable. Our server was attentive but not overbearing which I really appreciated. I ordered the Koshorita cocktail and it was delicious! For my meal, I ordered the chef's nigiri set, which was bigger than I was expecting. The fish quality was good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the rice - it seemed a little undercooked and soaked in soy sauce. I was really excited to try this spot but it was a bit disappointing especially for the price you pay for the omakase. The sushi pieces were pretty good and fresh but not super amazing where I would pay $195 per person to go back to. We got the signature namokase and it was definitely not worth the price. The service was okay but the whole omakase experience, I definitely expected more since it's on the more pricier side than some of the other sushi restaurants in the DFW area. Don't get me wrong, the sushi was fresh & good I just feel like there are better places to go for everything combined in one dining experience. The sushi chef barely explained what each fish was and it felt a little rushed. We sat for their last omakase seating at 9pm so it's not like they were that busy either. If we're spending $500 for dinner and drinks, I expect superb dining experience. The restaurant is small and intimate but this was a no for me. Namo is easily one of my favorite dining experiences in Dallas. We sat at the bar, and it was super intimate, the whole dining room seats maybe 18 people, all surrounding the chefs as they prepare the sushi right in front of you. It makes the experience feel personal and special. The hosts, servers, and chefs were all incredibly kind and attentive, and you can tell everyone takes real pride in what they do. Every dish we tried was delicious, fresh, balanced, and beautifully presented. The ambiance is cozy and minimal in the best way. There's also outdoor seating, which looked really nice, but being inside at the bar in front of the chefs is definitely the move if you want the full experience. I had sushi in Texas, ya'll...and was pleasantly surprised! Being from LA and having traveled to Japan many times, I was stupefied by the quality of ingredients and the preparation. The fish was fresh and aged properly, the sushi rice was seasoned perfectly, and the nori was served while still crisp. I opted for their nigiri omakase, which wasn't necessarily value-priced comparative to LA or NY, but came with 12 nigiri courses (menu changes, as needed). All were sauced well and served in a timely manner. More than that, the service was excellent from start to finish - from reservations, food and beverage service, and even Allie who runs their wine and alcohol program (she took the time to offer counsel on the other restaurants I had lined up for the rest of the week of my visit). I usually don't leave reviews, but at this price point I think people deserve a heads-up. The fish was fresh and good, but the rice completely missed the mark - oddly warm (this is sushi, not rice balls), balance of vinegar and sugar was off, and served as brown rice without any choice. Brown rice simply doesn't work for fine sushi: the texture is off, it doesn't bind properly, and several pieces fell apart.. With high-end sushi, rice matters just as much as the fish, and here it threw off the balance. The $135 "Namokase" (12 pieces + miso soup/one slice of egg, so like $10-11 for one single sushi?) felt underwhelming. Several items were MISSING staff could NOT explain substitutions, and the uni I was most looking forward to was SKIPPED WITHOUT A WORD. Service also felt rushed - chopsticks were whisked away as soon as I finished, and no decent explanations of the sushi were given. The sake flight was another disappointment: 3 tiny pours (about 1 oz each) for $36.. Overall, the fish quality was good, but the rice, technique, and service didn't justify the $220+ per person bill. The performance behind the counter also felt a bit unfortunate - more like someone imitating a sushi chef than a trained itamae. There are far better and more authentic omakase experiences nearby. Yea this place is better than Ginza Onodera. Hard to pick a favorite piece. I wasn't a huge fan of the sashimi but I appreciate the perspective and experimenting they did. But I'm biased, I like nigiri more. The nigiri was absolutely out of control. Hard to pick a favorite, I had the namokase and pretty much every piece was a hit. I had some a la carte to round out my experience at the end. Service was attentive and great. Whole food experience was just out of control. So good. Don't listen to the people who ding this place lower. If you like sushi, go here. Absolutely crushes any LA spot. Easily top 3 for me. I've had a lot of sushi experience. Flavor wise the nigiri and temaki compete toe to toe with any Michelin spot. I did not try any rolls or makimono, I personally do not like those in general, I'm more traditional with my sushi tastes. I looked up several lists for best mother's day brunch in Dallas and Namo came up because of its special binchoatan (Japanese charcoal) grill menu. My in-laws ordered oyster, scallop, and lobster from the menu. My father-in-law had the red miso soup, and mother-in-law ordered a seaweed salad. We also ordered shishito skewers. For drinks I started with the hojichata (mocktail) then switched to the Namo nitro tea. Eric R. got hot hojicha tea, and my father-in-law got the jasmine gin cocktail. Eric R. and I opted for the lunch okonomi (set meal). It was a really good deal at $75. First course: Namo salad with daikon, whitebait, microgreens, bonito flakes, and yuzu vinaigrette (Eric swapped this for the seaweed salad with his mom) Second course: hamachi sashimi with serrano and purple potato chip in ponzu Third course: bonito sashimi with garlic chips Fourth course: chawanmushi with ikura Fifth course: nigiri plate with madai, salmon, aji, chutoro, kohada, unagi Sixth course: wagyu beef tostada Seventh course: red miso soup My in-laws loved the lobster the best, which had a yuzu butter sauce. Super intimate sushi place located in West Village in Uptown! They have the option to sit inside at the sushi bar or outside on the patio. My boyfriend and I opted for the sushi bar. Everyone there was super welcoming and attentive. The service was superb! Food came out quickly after we placed our order. All the fish we had was super fresh super delicious! My favorite include the scallop (Hotate), Kamasu, Kasugodai, Kuromutsu, honestly, all the fish! All the fish we ordered were nigiri pieces and the chefs complemented each fish with the perfect amount of wasabi hidden under the fish. Stopped in to grab a bite before heading over to check out *Bad Boys Ride or Die* (sidebar: great film!) and ended up finding my new favorite drink--the amazing Japanese Old Fashioned. It was superb. I was a walk-in who got lucky because it was slow at the time, and the staff were able to squeeze me in. However, don't do what I did--I highly recommend making reservations. The place has a very intimate setting, perfect for a date night if you're not into crowds. The staff were extremely polite and interactive, which made the experience even better. I really tried to be patient with this place, but they ended up seriously disappointing me. It was the last day of a weekend trip to Dallas, and dining here was supposed to be the highlight. Instead, it turned out to be the worst experience of the trip and a total waste of time. There were four of us, and we ordered six new-style rolls, a couple of appetizers, some additional pieces, and drinks. The food was okaayyy--but the most frustrating part of the experience was the delay in getting our food. There was at least a 10-15 minute wait between each roll. We initially ordered all six rolls at once, but when it became clear they weren't going to speed things up, we just asked for the check. I'm not sure what happened here, but it was not okay--and definitely a mood killer. We also ordered 2 cucumber salads and they never brought those out. read more

It's very classy here, moreso than most sushi restaurants. Food was fine, but nothing out of the ordinary (at least, I couldn't tell the difference between local fish and the exotic ones). One downside is that it's a bit more expensive than other sushi places. Yelp has this place at $$ (2 dollar signs), while I'd say it's closer to $$$ (3 dollar signs). Still worth the money, but if you're ordering a lot of food, you might rack up quite a bit of a bill. Our server, George, was very friendly and attentive, but a little too overeager to help us. Our table was right next to the outdoor register, and he kept interrupting us to ask if we had questions about the menu. His CS was great, but I kinda wish he left us alone at times.
