My Fiancé and I went here for our anniversary! I'm not a big seafood guy so I was a little skeptical. However the staff were all incredibly nice. Everyone wished us a happy anniversary and they gave us a great seat so we could look into the kitchen! The crab friend rice was very good and like I said I don't really like seafood. My fiancé said her halibut was good but she would try something else next time. I ordered the burger and was surprised at how good it was considering it is a seafood restaurant! One of the best dining experiences we've ever had! We sat at the bar and the bartenders (Andrew & Aldo) overheard us talking about our birthdays. They poured us each a glass of rose! Very attentive and could tell they know everyone by name. A lot of regulars here which is a good sign. They recommended we share an entree which was nice because the portion was huge. The ambiance is a casual, but classy seafood spot. Our reservation was 8:45 pm on a Saturday and it was pretty packed & loud. The food was prepared well with nice sized portions. Recommend this place. Didn't have a reservation but still got seated right away, always a bonus. The waiter was great. Seemed kind of in a hurry, BUT...also when I told him the 3 bottles of wine I was deciding between, he didn't automatically say the most expensive (of the three). He gave an honest recommendation which was the middle priced bottle. I appreciated he didn't just say the most expensive one. We went specifically for oysters and they had 3 types that night, so we had options. Blue pointe are always my favorite. None disappointed tho. The food options are incredible, but the menu is a little confusing. Everything is presented as a "special" because the menu has a list of like 7 ways to order the fish (cook style and seasoning/sauces) but it changes with each fish, that's not actually listed on the menu. We had our waiter repeat it a few times. The haricot vert with bacons was delicious. As were the actual fish dinners we ordered. I visit DFW at least once every year and always look for a new restaurant to try out while I'm there. Montclake Cut was close to my Sister's house so I decided to stop in. Atmosphere was amazing. Restaurant was busy but the service was top tier and one of the managers stopped by to check in. I had a couple gin Breakers (?) and the crab fried rice. Will be back in July! read more

Made a reservation for 2 on a Wednesday evening, but as it was a weekday, it wasn't too busy. We were seated at a booth, and our waitress came over fairly quickly to take drink orders. I got the seaside G&T (Ford's gin, celery, Old Bay lime, tonic) - on the stronger side, so I couldn't finish it all, but delicious! The waitress then explained the Market Fish Preps - this section of the menu changes frequently, so you just have to ask for the specifics. We got the tuna crudo to start (this was a special that our waitress recommended over the hamachi), along with the Dutch mussels in anchor steam (garlic, butter, crispy bread) and the grilled swordfish from the Market Prep menu. The mussels were very tasty - I was looking for a small dish, and this came out as a larger portion than I expected, but the mussels were so fresh, and the crispy bread goes so well with the garlic soup that the mussels are steamed in. I had a bite of the swordfish, which really isn't my kind of fish, but it was grilled very well! We also got a side of their Harikot vert (green beans) with bacon, a delicious combo! A little salty, but the green beans definitely help mellow out the flavors. Overall, comfy atmosphere with great seafood - so what's not to love! I love Seattle (I've been multiple times) and this restaurant really brings Seattle to life right in Dallas! Parking is within the Preston center and see easy. The food was so fresh!! I loved my whole fish branzino, the oyster were excellent and perfectly briny. The service was good! It was our anniversary and our seating wasn't the best, they have the tables so close together and sat us right next to a party of 4. It would have been nice to have a table in a little more of a romantic area. We went on a Sunday at 7 pm with reservations and the restaurant was less than half full.balso all the other tables got the goldfish crackers except us, definitely felt like we were shoved in the corner and forgot about which is disappointing when one is spending hundreds of dollars on dinner. We happened to find this place on a staycation. It's a small elegant hidden place. The seafood is amazing. I am very picky with calamari and I have to say their calamari is superb! The cocktails and the food are exquisite. And after our meal we walked around to see the shops and the neighborhood. Great place for a date night. I told my husband he can take me there again. I don't care if you don't love crab, unless you have a shellfish allergy, get it. It's that good. I always get an order as an appetizer. The dressed ahi and Hamachi are good and I sometimes get one of them along with the crab fried rice. The fish is always good whether its the Milanese, the whole roasted or the gulf coast style. Fish n Chips is also good. Drinks are always great. Service is always great. Last time I had Zach and he was great! Go and get the crab fried rice and thank me later. We had high hopes for the Ceviche, but the white fish used was tough and the sauce had a strong mezcal taste. The Soft Shell Crab order came with two tiny pieces and was not worth the price. There was nothing special about the Asparagus. The Whole Fish was good, as it was tender with crispy skin on the bottom. But honestly, the Creamed Corn was the star of the night. Was craving dinner late one night so I perused restaurants nearby. Picked out Montlake Cut based on reading the menu....and they did not disappoint. Started off with some Clam Chowder. I'm no expert on the matter as a southern guy, but it was 100% the best I've had. Also it came out piping hot...so often places serve warm soup...who wants that? Brownie points for nailing the soup temp. Had an espresso martini which was good to me, but if you expect sweetness with yours this one might not be for you. For my entree I had the Milanese prepped trout with a side of Brussels sprouts....SO good. I can't finish the review without mentioning the stellar service...easily best I've had in Dallas. Solid seafood spot in a great location with good service. I'd say it's a bit overpriced but most of the more upscale seafood places in Dallas are so expect a pricier meal. Cute Seattle/coastal themed décor. The bar area is super tight and it's so difficult to pass through and say hi to someone you know without getting in everyone's way while they trek to the restroom. This is probably my biggest complaint about the design and if you ever choose to sit at the bar which I definitely do not recommend. The plus is that there is always plenty of parking in the plaza. Food- I always LOVE the mussels and the oysters. Pro tip- The mussels come with the tastiest garlic bread and you can get a loaf on the side to really soak up all that soupy goodness. The hamachi is always delicious with tangy citrus flavors. Honestly, I am good with just these 3 apps/small eats and no entrée. Even adding the shrimp cocktail or some crab legs will be sufficient. But I do recommend basically any of the fish. Service- Pretty average as this is definitely a restaurant where people tend to lounge and drink and slowly pass the time so they don't check up on you too often. read more

No worries about seating at the bar or the lil kitchen bench in the back. She likes the Halibut served in the tacos and gets it almost every time we go. Definitely splurge and get the dozen so you don't have to fight your companion for the last one. Also enjoyed the smoked salmon. Silky smooth and delicious especially combined with the tomato and dill cream fraiche. The presentation was beautiful, the salmon had a good pink color and the bread was buttery and fresh. Montlake's food is as confused as its vibe. Is it casual? Fine dining? Seafood? Or just...Coastal? The items we ordered were hit or miss. The Idaho red trout was a crowd-pleaser. The restaurant was good to split orders on separate plates. The oysters are pricey. The vegetables missed the mark overall, with the 6 bland spears of asparagus ($12.00) taking the cake. Speaking of cake, the rum cake was quite good. I just feel as though this place can't figure out what it's trying to do--or more importantly--the customer can't figure out what it's trying to do. I'd say keep the creamed corn, but scrap all of the green veggies' recipes and start over. I like the fact that I can choose to be spendy or not here. But I just wish I didn't have to guess whether the dish was good or not. read more

Great Saturday evening dinner at Montlake! Started with the crispy shrimp cocktail and 1/2 dozen oysters. Both were delicious! The shrimp were seasoned well and cooked to perfection - crisp and juicy! The oysters were tasted as though they were just picked from the ocean! Perfect balance of flavors. For entrees, had the burger (which was awesome for a seafood spot) with fries (the voodoo sauce made them even better), king crab fried rice, creamed corn and beef taco on the side.
