I think they were training staff possibly the bartender was my server even though in main dining so it took forever in between order, food delivery, and trying to leave. I first went to Anchor Sushi Bar on April 2nd and I've already been back two more times since then -- which honestly says everything. It's always busy for a reason. The food, cocktails, wine, and service have all been consistently excellent every visit. The Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice is absolutely elite and one of the best things on the menu. I've also loved the Crispy Chicken Bao Buns and the sushi rolls have been incredibly fresh every time. The cocktails are great (their martinis are especially good), and the wine list pairs really well with the menu. The atmosphere feels lively and upscale without being stuffy, and even when it's packed the service has been attentive and efficient. It's quickly become one of my favorite spots on Knox for sushi, drinks, and a fun week night out. Highly recommend making a reservation because this place stays busy. read more

I have heard great things about Anchor Sushi Bar's happy hour & finally had time to stop in and check it out for myself. First, they have happy hour every day (weekends included) 4-6pm at the bar & on the patio. The patio was packed when we arrived but we had no problem finding a spot at the bar. Our bartenders were quick to serve us and offered great recommendations. We sampled the spicy California roll, the shrimp tempura roll, edamame, and pork dumplings. My favorite was the spicy California roll. It was so good that I didn't even get a picture of it before we scarfed it down! I also had a lychee martini. It was so delicious and "tasted like spring". This review is for 5/28/26. I stumbled across this spot earlier in the day and realized they had a happy hour. Their happy hour is pretty similar to Hudson House & I found out that they're owned by the same private company. I sat outside which isn't always my first choice because I don't enjoy being hot, but the shade from the trees and the over cast actually made it very enjoyable. My server's name was Omar. Omar was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and gave me a list of happy hour options that weren't even listed on the menu that I noticed other servers weren't doing. He always had a smile on his face and periodically made sure I was okay. I started with the spicy tuna crispy rice roll and the espresso. The roll comes with 4 pieces and the texture was different than I expected. It was actually a tasty entree and was just enough to leave room for more... (I'll note that it was the first and last happy hour item I ordered). Next I ordered the spicy tuna roll which is of course a basic roll, but I will say I actually did not like their version. It was played so neatly, but that add some type of salt on top of it which made it too salty (for my liking) and didn't really have much flavor outside of that. Next came the crispy chicken bao bun. It is $4 per bun for happy hour so I ordered two. The chicken was definitely crispy, but was not all that seasoned to me. The bun was of course very fluffy and the sauce and home made pickles sort of made up for that. Each roll for happy hour is $8, but some of the vegetate option ones are $6. All in all I enjoyed my experience, I enjoyed Omar, and will destiny return to try other items. It would have gotten 5 stars but the chicken and regular tuna roll lost a star for me. The girls and I headed here for happy hour on Friday...and everything was perfect! We enjoyed the patio, even though it was a summer day in the middle of Dallas. The misting fans were perfect and cooled everything off well. We ordered a few happy hour apps (1/2 off) and each got a few beverages...of course we had to have diet cokes. I made a reservation and they accidentally marked it as a different party- so they got my table inside and we had to either wait 20 minutes or just sit outside. So we sat outside. I don't think their fish is sushi grade. I had to spit out two rolls because the fish tasted spoiled and old. Not to mention it's expensive as hell. I want my money back. I had never been to Anchor and boy was I missing out. Their sushi & drinks are delicious! It is a smaller restaurant with a lively vibe. It can get packed but they also have a little patio too. If you like martinis you won't be disappointed. They have a great martini menu- try the Lychee Martini ! My favorite menu items were the Wagyu dumplings, tuna crispy rice! Had a Valentine's dinner reservation, we're seated quickly outside. The seats were still wet from the torrential downpour but we dried them off and kept chugging along. We got the Pear Martini and the Hibiscus Margarita, both were delicious. To eat, we got the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice to start, which was fantastic. Then the Hamachi Crudo, which was my favorite bite of the night. We got an assortment of nigiri, a few rolls, and the Brussel sprouts, which were very hot but very good. The Anchor Roll was great, the Chef's Pressed Roll could be skipped. The food took a while to come out but that is to be expected with a holiday dinner reservation. The Anchor Sushi Bar is a beautifully upscale nautical experience with the food quality to match. This menu Cascades from one of a kind Sushi to fresh sashimi to actual hamburgers and such. As you keep going down this menu is where things get interesting. Continuing in their expansive, Asian flavored items would be The Anchor Roll, the zesty fried rice, Sweet and Sour Brussels and house specials such as Thai noodle steak salad, Chicken Wonton salad. Sweet & Sour Brussels are so very nice and pack an unexpected punch. The art ranges from taught culture to entirely in Japanese posters from James Bond, to Sophia Loren and even Steve McQueen. I love it and happy to spend more time at this bar and enjoy the vibe that this spot has curated. Horrible experience. While we were still actively eating dinner, our check was placed on the table, making us feel rushed through the entire meal. We also witnessed the manager publicly reprimanding our server and telling them to turn tables more quickly, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere. We had a reservation for 5:45 PM, weren't seated until 6:00 PM, and were then told we needed to leave by 7:15 PM. For a restaurant that was already running behind on seating, being rushed out after only a little over an hour at the table was extremely disappointing. For a dinner that cost over $400, I am astonished by the way we were treated. We expected a high level of service and hospitality, but instead felt like we were being pushed out the door. Unfortunately, this has not been an isolated experience. Rushed service and a lack of hospitality seem to be a recurring issue at Anchor Bar, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Overall, a very poor dining experience and not what I would expect from a restaurant at this price point. I would not return. read more

6 months later I was finally able to visit in person. Cute corner location. The inside is dark and cozy. Reminiscent of maybe a boat house. I'm not sure if something happened before I came but the staff seemed to be stressed. No one really smiled. Just all going through the motions. My server seemed to be new. Not very knowledgeable about the menu but she was polite and attentive and showed a lot of effort. Now onto the food.... Tuna crispy rice 3/10 - this app has 3 pieces. The tuna was extreme soft. Seemed to be minced but hard to tell. There were far too many sauces and too much on this app. You couldn't really taste the fish. Crispy chicken bao 5/10 - the chicken was crispy, tempura fried. Texture and look was more beer battered than tempura but the taste was ok. Uni nigiri 0/10 - Uni had no texture. It was extremely soft almost melted and had heavy fish/metal after taste. I told the server and they removed the dish. Shoyu pork ramen 0/10 - the broth was mildly flavored. The noodles had an off gummy texture that stuck to our teeth. We expected pork belly or sliced fresh pork but instead received a cut up patty as the pork that also had no flavor. Toro sashimi 0/10 - the toro placed in front of me was not fresh/quality. It was spongy and greyish brown. I didn't taste it. The manager removed it and insisted the fish was cut fresh to order although it was spongy and brown. We got drawn to this restaurant because of their well-known crispy rice appetizer! The restaurant is located in the Knox-Henderson area, they have both outdoor and indoor seating (incl. bar). It can definitely get busy so plan ahead or you can try to get bar seating. We tried the lychee martini, which they're famous for, and Okinawa sour cocktail. The drinks were excellent, pair perfectly with our sushi orders. We obv ordered the crispy rice, which was really good, great for sharing. Also ordered the Chef's Pressed roll. Ah, the Vandelay Hospitality Group... building facsimile's of the restaurants originally created by the Hillstone Group. Though I can't blame them, Hillstone definitely sets the standard. Brentwood is ok, as is Hudson House. One thing Vandelay can't seem to match is the level of service their servers provide. Anchor Sushi just completely misses the mark. The cocktails were great and the restaurant itself is beautiful, but the service was slow and the sushi was just... fine. I dunno. Blah. The Knox Roll is supposed to have some seared salmon on top, but the salmon on ours was barely kissed by any type of heating element. The Thai Tuna roll, having been told that it's basically the Thai Tuna roll R&D used to carry was pretty bland. I'm glad I finally got to try this place. Ok, so I thought this was just going to be Hudson House with a more nautical theme but I was happily proven otherwise. Knowing the Knox location didn't take reservations we showed up at 7:30 on Saturday evening and found an hour and a half wait for a table. Fortunately, two seats quickly opened at the bar and we chose to eat there instead. I love a good bar, and this was cozy and inviting. The two bartenders waiting on us were the stars. They were both super attentive and were on their game making drinks non stop all night. I could have definitely enjoyed a third martini they were so good (although strong so perhaps wouldn't have been a good move!) The food was excellent. The bartenders did let us know the delay in the sushi order at the time we ordered so that was no problem. The pork dumplings were fabulous and hot. I clearly told your front desk staff to text me when our table was ready and explicitly gave permission to do so. Instead, I received a call at 6:39 p.m. -- no voicemail was left. I returned the call at 6:41 p.m., just two minutes later, while walking back from the parking lot, only to be told -- bluntly -- "Oh, you opted out of texts, so I gave your table away." That statement is not only inaccurate, it is unacceptable. I did not opt out of texts. I specifically requested one. In what world does a restaurant refuse to hold a table for even five minutes after a 90-minute wait? Two minutes. That's all it took for your staff to decide our time meant nothing. We are Knox Street residents. We dine with you weekly. We have known Johan and supported Anchor Sushi since its inception. Loyalty, apparently, counts for very little at your front desk. What disturbed me most was not just the decision -- it was the attitude. Hospitality means giving guests the benefit of the doubt, especially long-standing patrons. Instead, we were dismissed without hesitation. This experience was embarrassing, frustrating, and frankly painful coming from a place we've supported for years. Went here last night. Dallas has such an incredible sushi scene, would not put this place on the list. Food was cold and everything was just "okay" except for the wagyu potstickers. Those were incredible. Also took a while for everything to come out. Giving the benefit of the doubt though. They seemed slammed with take out orders and allegedly the kitchen was understaffed. All the food we tried was delicious! We got several starters and shared at the table along with a selection of rolls, more of a family style setting. Great way to try multiple things at once. They originally told us we would be seated right away and then proceeded to put us on a waitlist after we gave our phone number; they sat a walk in party and when I went to ask why they were seated before us, they said they didn't know I wanted first available.
