Ambiance was nice. I enjoyed the decor with the old outboard motors. It's a little fast food. Walk up and order and they call your name when it's ready. Staff was excellent. We ate the calamari and oysters. They were very good. It was happy hour and we could of just eaten that. Crab legs were very and the fried oysters as well. Hush puppies were very good as well. Unfortunately the catfish was not very good. The breading didn't have much flavor and it was dry. I had to keep soaking it an tartar sauce. Walking in, listening to that 'ole Cajun/ Soul music automatically makes you smile. There was a waiting line however moved quickly. Cashier friendly, knowledgeable and answered questions about the menu items. TV's here so you can watch the latest sports events. Jorge, new employee as of 3 weeks, was busy clearing tables, greeting customers, making sure everyone was okay. Jorge came back several times throughout the meal. Young, fast, happy. First basket was a whole, crispy seasoned catfish, fried okra, with a couple of hushpuppies. Delicious. Second basket, fried Seafood combo included shrimp, oysters, catfish filets, French fries, with hushpuppies. Can't go wrong with this combo. Had the opportunity to meet one of the managers, Sandy. Sandy was so polite, gracious, and wanted to make sure all was good. We talked about the dinner selections and Hook Line Sinker desserts. It's no wonder things run so smoothly here. I think the menu is a bit hit or miss, but my favs were all part of their happy hour so I would recommend sticking with that! The calamari was incredible and I loved the sauce it came with. I wish you could have the sauce with the combo meal. I also got their happy hour oysters. They were fresh and delicious. The bread on the side really needs butter or something though. My last item was the oyster combo meal which I didn't love. I was under the impression I was getting half shell oysters and not fried so that was disappointing. The breading they fry with is pretty bland and my oysters were soggy. You definitely need sauce. The tartar sauce is fine but I mostly used the calamari sauce while I ate. We come to Hook, Line & Sinker every year for my husband's birthday--it's become a tradition for us. Our last visit was back in May while we were already in the area, and everything was just as we remembered. When we came in again tonight, though, we noticed a small but great change. We were asked if we wanted salt, pepper, and garlic seasoning on our order--and of course we said yes! In the past, we'd never been asked and the food typically came unseasoned (I usually have to salt everything and load up on tartar sauce). That one question made such a difference. The shrimp, fries, and hush puppies were absolutely amazing this time around. The online menu does mention "seasoning upon request," but I imagine a lot of people don't check the website, so being asked directly was a really nice touch. We usually order the 18-count jumbo shrimp, which comes with fries, hush puppies, plus ketchup and tartar sauce--and it never disappoints. There's a patio out front with a heated section, as well as indoor seating, which makes it a great spot year-round. The boat decor is also a nice touch. We'll definitely keep our yearly tradition going and appreciate the little improvements that make an already solid place even better!! read more

HLS has been around for decades!! It is a decent spot to grab a quick bite of seafood. The entrees are cooked to order. Surprisingly, the Cole slaw is my favorite item!! The food is not highly seasoned, even when you ask for seasoning. That's fine as long as your expectations are set. Each table comes with a set up of hot sauces, horseradish and condiments to suit your own taste. I've tried the gumbo and red beans and rice in the past. They are not very flavorful. Been neglecting to write a review for this place since I've been going for years. But it really is an institution here in Uptown, as many-many restaurants come and go but Hook Line & Sinker has remained for decades. The food is always good, and the service is just as good, it's order at the counter but they are still always super friendly and helpful. Their specialty is the fried catfish & shrimp baskets, and Mexican Shrimp Cocktails, but I've had grilled trout, snow crab, and oysters as well, all really high quality and done well. My relatives visit from FL and MD, and always want to go there because the fish is so good. Think that's a nod to the quality. Also, if you go when it's busy (which is almost always around meal times) it can get a little crowded, but they have a sign asking to ORDER BEFORE SITTING and it always works out. read more

I'm usually not big on complaining on food but I must say this is probably the worst seafood restaurant I've ever been to. I ordered two lbs of crawfish for myself, Po-boy combo for my wife, catfish nuggets for my youngest, shrimp platter for my daughter and catfish and shrimp combo for my middle child. My first complaint is the crawfish was undercooked. I'm sort of a crawfish connoisseur and I like to try crawfish all over during crawfish season. The crawfish was very white and rubbery. After about eating 3 I pushed the plate away. They don't have servers and the line was long so I don't even bother to complain to the staff. This has to be the most UNDER SEASONED food. None of the food had any seasoning. The fries are frozen steak fries. The fish is NOT catfish, it's either Tilipa or swai. The nuggets were catfish but lacked any flavor. I thought this place wouldn't be good to try since it had ok reviews but boy was I wrong. The undercooked crawfish is a deal breaker. I'm writing this review on the toilet. My experience dining here was fantastic! We actually had plans to go elsewhere and on the way to that place, this little restaurant caught my eye, and so we ended up eating here. We all got catfish poboys and a side of gumbo. The service was quick and order-at-the-counter style. Inside the establishment, there is a lot of fishing decor (I mean, are we surprised?) and it's pretty clean and tidy. Food-wise, the catfish was crunchy and fried to perfection and the jambalaya was quite addictive. We loaded up our poboys with grated horseradish and some hot sauce and just absolutely demolished it. Like seriously, this ended up being one of our favourite restaurants from the entirety of our stay in Dallas! From the way the reviews read, it seems that the quality isn't THAT consistent, but we are so thankful we caught the good side of it, because when it's good, it's GOOOOOD. read more

Being new to the neighborhood, my partner and I decided to stop by for lunch on Saturday. The looks small on the outside but there's a good amount of seating inside. There's also a small deck area and a few tables out front . Since the weather was amazing, we decided to sit on the patio. You order first, grab a table and they'll call you when your order is ready. I wanted chargrilled oysters but was advised they are only sold M-F. So we decided on the 2 piece filet basket, 6 piece wings, 4 shrimp and filet basket and a half bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. I will say that the food was fresh and fried well. I also like the fact that you can add seasoning which is a blend of salt, pepper and garlic. The signature sauce on the wings was very tasty. However, I was a bit disappointed in the fish fillets as they didn't taste like catfish at all; more like tilapia or some other white fish. The prices are very reasonable and they have some great specials. I'll at least probably go back to try the chargrilled oysters. All in all, it's not a bad neighborhood spot if you need a seafood fix. read more

A true disappointment. All I had been wanting to eat all day was friend shrimp. I was ecstatic to try Hook Line & Sinker because I thought it would be the perfect place to satisfy this craving. Expecting 12 FRESH well seasoned friend shrimp instead I received obviously frozen friend shrimp with the seasoning profile of a cardboard box. Unfortunately the disappointment doesn't stop there. The corn tastes more like the unsalted water it must sit in for hours before serving, the fries also had no seasoning and the hush puppies were burnt. It hurts to write there because the staff was INCREDIBLE. So sweet and accommodating and had my to go order ready at the perfect time. I hope this establishment will complete redo their recipes and focus on developing great flavors instead of just settling for being the only friend seafood joint in the area and serving trash. The fried shrimp were small and beat thin to appear large with batter. They were famous for their hush puppies. They were long and cylindrical and perfect. Today I'm told they no longer use that supplier and have selected the unoriginal round batter ball style. Long John Silvers has a better hush puppy than this .
