We went to Celebration for dinner with family during a recent trip to the Big D... venerable old school place, around for decades. The place is cool in appearance, stone building, nice outside patio! The appeal is nostalgia... not good quality food IMHO. The table ordered soup, fried chicken, fried catfish, baked chicken, grilled salmon, and a handful of sides. The lentil soup was very good, but everything else was just OK! None of the food was particularly hot, and with fried food, it's gotta be hot! The veggie sides were warm at best... seemed most of the food was cooked in advance, which allowed for speedy delivery, but quality suffered. Desserts were also just OK, even the kids didn't finish them. Service was great! But, beyond that, our visit was disappointing. The place had received a lot of hype from family. It's been awhile since going to Celebration's but when it comes to good homemade comfort food just go ahead and a trip to Celebration ! The restaurant is huge/ but I love the different dining rooms to eat in. Love that they greet the table with hot fresh cornbread , rolls and muffins ! My lunch companions went in with a quickness . Lucy was on point with drinks , ordering and suggesting with so many sides ! I ended up with the Pot Roast with mashed potatoes and grilled carrots ! Can you say Massive Huge portions.. I asked for a to go container right away / there was no way I was going to finish this meal plus I had filled up on too much bread ( but it was just so good ! My friend pork chop was huge but wasn't cooked completely but Lucy took it back and quickly returned with pork chops cooked to perfection ! Lucy suggested dessert and why not it's all homemade ! Coconut pie, brownie w ice cream on the side and banana pudding ! Can you say feast !! But I already had packed up my Pot roast . I returned hoping I'd have a better experience but the food is still bland. Maybe I'm ordering the wrong items. I ordered the fried chicken breast with gravy, broccoli, mashed potatoes and they weren't flavorful. It was disheartening but the service was wonderful. It truly is a Celebration to dine at this home restaurant! Food is homemade. Waiters are attentive. What we really liked is to be seated on the left side, where it's quiet so we can hold a conversation. You go in a room with maybe about five to six tables and booths, so it's very quaint. Many great memories are made here. There's a personal touch and charm inside this home. They have seating outside, too. Definitely not as good as in years past, unfortunately. That said, the French onion soup was excellent - sweet onions with a lot of flavor, the fried okra was even better. Fresh, hot, crispy, and perfectly salty, and the basket of fresh bread had a wide variety and it was all warm. Our server was outstanding. We had a party of 9 and he was on top of it the whole time we were there. Otherwise, the fried catfish was more breading than fish, it was hot but on the soft, almost soggy side, and over cooked. It started off with the waiter yelling for our attention so he could take the order. This was a large party of eight in a private room. it seemed as he wanted to control the situation and guide us with his demands through ordering our food. The communal vegetables and salads were at a subpar level if anybody thinks they are eating fresh vegetables they're sadly mistaken. the waiter could hear me making a discouraging comment and brought me the worst chicken fried steak that I've had in my 79 years. I have always enjoyed Celebration restaurant on Lovers Ln. We normally dine in and ordered to go last evening. They did miss giving us the okra and green beans as we ordered. Food was sub par. They should be checking the to go orders twice or more to ensure they're correct. However, I notice on the receipt a charge for To Go Packaging Fee of (5.00%). I find that interesting because when dining in the restaurant we have taken left overs and they placed them in to go containers with no fee. We went to the Flight Museum and since Celebration was nearby and has been on my "want to go" list for a while, we went there for lunch. There was about a 15-20 minute wait, but the bar area was available. We sat at the bar and ate. It was such a friendly relaxed atmosphere. The bartenders/servers were are very friendly and helpful. All of our meals were delicious and we were all happy that we made the decision to have lunch there. The menu is quite extensive and they have a nice, well stocked bar. Unfortunately, a lot of things have changed about the Celebration Restaurant I used to love. They took away the lemon herb chicken, took away the TexMex brown rice, which was so unique, not even sure if the Jamaican jerk chicken is on the menu anymore. I guess the owners kids decided to redo the place, but looked fine as it was before, that nostalgia why many people came back. sad is that the owners also don't even address these reviews which are totally legitimate. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the food was good. The service was horrible. We got no drink refills, no one cleared the table and there were dishes covering the whole thing. Small intimate rooms where you can visit . A great place for a girls lunch! The salads were all very good. I had the Southwest Cobb Salad with a basil vinaigrette. Larger, louder crowds belong in bigger rooms. I ordered the walnut encrusted chicken salad. I GOT a piece of Walnut encrusted chicken on it's own plate, with 3 bowls of sides and no salad. When asked why I didn't get my salad she says, "oh I'm sorry. That happens sometimes, the servers turn in the wrong order." I mean, why is that even in her vocabulary? What a wonderful experience we had at Celebration. We had reservations for seven guests and we were seated in our own private room at a round table that could seat eight. We experienced some of the best service and most friendly service you could imagine. This is a farm to table restaurant and everything we all ordered was fabulous. Most of their entrées were unbelievably priced at under $20. The vegetables are served family style and you get to choose three so by consensus we decided on the three that we would order. We ordered mashed potatoes, new potatoes, and broccoli. All the vegetables were cooked perfectly with just a touch of firmness and my personal peeve is broccoli that is so overcooked that is mushy.This was not that. And we actually ended up getting squash as well. I ordered the pot roast which was a very generous portion. The meat was so tender and juicy and served with several pieces of carrot, onion and a generous side of Au Jus. my entrée was also accompanied by either a soup, salad or fruit cup. I ordered the salad and it was fresh with no hint of being wilted and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing which was delicious. And remember this was all under $20. We ordered three different desserts and shared them, the peach cobbler served warm with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, the bread pudding which was our least favorite yet still delicious, and coconut cream pie. My husband and I arrived just before 6 o'clock, they my server section was sat all at once with back to back tables and she could not keep up which I understand. But you couldn't get anything you couldn't get refills. Twice my husband asked for A1 sauce and was brought almost empty bottle each time. The initial mashed potatoes were barely enough for one person so when we asked for more we didn't get them until we were getting our food to go and she said do you still want the mashed potatoes? I went to celebration for a girls organization event. The restaurant looks almost like a home with lots of small rooms. We definitely liked the privacy. I ordered the turkey and dressing. My sides were mash potatoes and a salad. I highly recommend the cucumber dressing for the salad. It was delicious! The rest of the meal was good and all the other ladies enjoyed theirs as well. We were able to make a reservation and got our own room for our weekend lunch. The service was not the best, and my lemonade was just lemon water, but the food was pretty good and everyone enjoyed the variety. This restaurant seems to be a north Dallas legend. It has been under operation for many decades. They have been serving farm to table before it became a brunch trend. I was impressed with everything I had except the chicken fried steak. (Unfortunately). The beef was overcooked and very dry and tough. It also tasted like it has been sitting out for awhile and not fresh anymore. The breading was delicious though and I liked the jalapeño gravy.
