This is our neighborhood local diner. They have excellent breakfast. That is a good value. My wife and I are are too small children come here regularly. The servers are consistent and we see the same faces often, which tells me they have good management. The decor inside has been updated somewhat recently. It's not necessarily my preference, but you can tell they are trying. There are certainly other good brunch places nearby but there's something about Lake Highlands Café that feels like a local gem. read more

Decided to try out this local cafe. The breakfast menu is amazing! Omelettes, pancakes, crepes. You really cannot go wrong. Yes, there are bottomless coffee refills. The space feels a bit stark - the blue and white decor and the harsh fluorescent lights aren't doing the space any favors. A lot of the signs have a "laugh, live, love" sensibility. But the food is delicious and the service was very friendly. I sampled the Nutella's crepes with strawberry and bananas - exquisitely sweet! Pretty good food and good service ! We came at lunch time on a Monday- there were 7 of us and we were in and out in about 40 minutes. The staff were very attentive and there were constantly people coming and going which is a good sign ! I got the pancake combo and it was massive- tons of food for a good price. We've been to LHC a few times for brunch but decided to try it for lunch. Got off to a rough start when nobody came to take orders or bring water for over 15min before I had to ask for a server. Not a huge thing but frustrating with two cranky hungry toddlers. As for the food, I was IMPRESSED! I got the Buffalo Chicken wrap and it was phenomenal crispy chicken and bacon tossed in buffalo sauce with a nice "freshish" tortilla and mixed greens. Just after noon on a Sunday there was a 10-15 minute wait, but it passed quickly watching the staff clean and turn tables so efficiently. This was my second visit to Lake Highlands Cafe. I ordered the Florentine Omelette without cheese and it was tasty with just the right amount of mushrooms, onions and spinach. It comes with fruit or grits and toast or pancakes. ALERT. You have to get the pancakes and pay the up charge for the berries and mascarpone berry topping. How could you not love this. Just look at the picture. The waitress was friendly and refilled our coffee and checked on us a couple of times. She brought the check (pay at the table) and a to go box. The leftovers were just as delicious the next day. I came here with a friend after taking a walk in White Rock. There were lots of parking. There were lots of seatings and the menu had lots of options. I felt healthy so I ordered the avocado toast. It was filling, but I thought the avocado was a bit bland. I thought it could use salt and pepper, but luckily there were some on the table. My friend ordered the gyro wrap. She liked it and it satisfied her craving. The staff seemed friendly and young. They were attentive and we received our food and drinks quickly. Space inside looked cozy with plenty of seating. I went with the patty melt with onion rings. The patty melt was solid, great rye bread, was just missing some sort of sauce, didn't have any and was lacking. The onion rings were elite, great breading/crunch, fried to perfection. Restaurant is one large dining room, lots of booths and a few tables. Since it's new, everything was nice and clean. Food was all good! Server was nice, food was served fresh and hot. Pancakes were very sweet and tasted like birthday cake, so if you like that, you'll be very pleased! Corned beef hash was tasty -- eggs were nicely done. Nothing stood out, but it was all good. Our only slight was that there were lots of folks waiting and very little sense of urgency from the staff...and there were several tables open but folks weren't being seated. My best buddy (my sister in law) her sister (our baby sister) and a couple of other ladies met at Lakehighlands Cafe. I was my normal running late so the ladies had started without me. I ordered and the food came really quickly, was hot and delicious. However, Lakehighlands cafe is rather small for the amount of service the receive. The entire place was a little crowed. But the wait staff was very pleasant, the entire time, and the service received was nice. However, the reason the place was so exceedingly busy, the food was amazing! I had French toast and it was fresh hot and so good. My advice go early AM get a seats with lots of leg room too. If you enjoy people watching get a corner booth. Dallas breakfast has been redeemed! I read about this place on Yelp, and it was very close to our hotel. Sitting was quick and the location is very pretty. Our coffee was excellent, better than the larger chain stores. We ordered the Big Apple bowl and the Egg breakfast. We made special requests and our server got every one of them spot on. This is rare. Refills were quick and plentiful and all of the employees look happy to be at work. The food was hot, fresh and reason nicely seasoned. Portion sizes are excellent , I never even made it to my pancakes. Overall great food. We will be back tomorrow to check on consistency. This is a sweet little place! We were headed to another brunch place in Dallas that we had our eye on only to arrive and find they were closed due to an event. Good, standard breakfast with great attention to tables (waters and coffee regularly filled) and well-prepared food.
