    pig head carnitas
    Lucy M.

I've been hearing my husband rave about the CBD Provisions pig head carnitas for almost as long as we've been together, so I'm happy that we were able to stop by with friends last month. We booked two pig heads in advance for 7 but dropped down to a group of 5 the day of; needless to say we had a not-insignificant amount of leftovers, but not for lack of trying :D The carnitas and sides were as delicious to old and new fans alike. Tragically, we were told that CBD Provisions is closing at the end of May to make room for a new concept coming to the Joule. You've got two weeks left to try the phenomenal carnitas and bring home any leftovers/bones to make a delicious pork stock with. I hope one day this dish is able to find a new home somewhere in the DFW area, because I'll definitely follow it to it's next destination.

Sitting within the hotel of Joule, CBD Provisions has a great ambience and the taste is somewhat there. Presentation of food and the lobby is picture-worthy as well. That said, the overall good ends around there. Taste: 4/5 Service: 3.5/5 Ambience: 4.5/5 Value for money: 2/5 We had: 1) Bone Marrow Tacos: taste is quite good, but very poor consistency of the marrow to taco and greens ratio. You would be left wondering how to best ration the portions of the meal. 2) Filet Mignon: This was okay and quite tender, that said, the raw herbs on the side felt like an afterthought. 3) Deconstructed strawberry shortcake: this was not bad and the panna cotta portion of this made all the difference. The shortbread however was just okay. Overall it's an expensive spot and it has good vibes. A good spot for a date night or a client meal.

Came here for both dinner and breakfast. Excellent service all around from the host/hostess, to servers, to staff. Very clean restaurant and plenty of seating. Food was excellent. For dinner we ordered the lamb a plate and it was more than enough for two. For breakfast we ordered the cinnamon roll, greens, and, eggs Benedict. All food items were beyond description!

This restaurant has been here forever; I hadn't visited since pre-pandemic. On a Wednesday night, it was a lot half occupied. We had an early dinner (seated at 5:30), yet several items were "out of stock" already. Not sure how that's possible..including basic items like sourdough bread and the peanut bar dessert. Additionally, our server was very pleasant but mentioned she was waiting for managers to get back to her on the menu for the night. She didn't know the specials or fish of the day. She was very apologetic. The food was ok overall. The rib roast was fatty yet somehow dry. Not worth it. Mussels had sand. The pimento toast didn't have enough pimento to matter. All in all, not overly impressive.

unexpectedly stopped in with some friends after an art show. it's very nice and well maintained. the restaurant is located inside of the joule hotel. the lobby is definitely picture worthy. our server was really nice and was very honest and didn't try to upsell us on anything. someone got a burger, another friend ordered a seared piece of salmon, and i got the mac n cheese... i was going to get the pimento toast.. but there is PORK in the pimento. for a saturday afternoon it was very quiet and a nice place to have a solo date. bring a book and just relax. the overall quality of the food was great, but there was nothing original about it. it is a hotel restaurant, and i have definitely had worse.. but if you're in the area, you like meat, and all the sushi places are closed until dinner... go check it out. (also, it is on the pricey side.. so be mindful. i had one glass of wine & the mac n cheese for $40) but i would probably sit the next visit out

CBD Provisions is a dining establishment in Joule Hotel. We dined here on a Sunday evening with low occupancy. Contrary to some of the reviews, we did not experience long wait times with our party of five, and our waitress was very nice and pleasant. The decor of the restaurant is like an elegant industrial style. Think warm woods with metal accents and dim pendant lamps with exposed filaments. The lighting is low throughout the restaurant except for the open kitchen. I like this dynamic. It's really neat to be able to see the kitchen in action. We had reservations and were seated right away. Two of the people in the party were going to share the pig head carnitas, so the arraignments for that were made forty-eight hours in advance. I tried a little taste of it, but because I'm pretty much pescatarian, I'm not going to review that aspect of the meal. I started my meal with the St. Arnold's Root Beer, which was great! It was easily the best root beer I've ever had. For an entree I chose the shrimp and grits. Now, when this dish arrived, it smelled heavenly, but when I started to dig in, it was beyond salty. It's like the shrimp was bribed and then the butter sauce was just overpowering. It's a shame because I could tell the flavors were great, but just overshadowed by too much salt. For dessert I had the Banana Pudding (they called it something else, but it was essentially a banana pudding in a jar). I like parts of it. The whip cream of course was great and the banana pudding itself was good, but once I got down to the bottom there was a rich banana creme that tasted like it had goat's milk- which I am not a fan of. I ate around it, but for $15, I feel kind of disappointed. Overall, I felt like the dinner was good, not great. The prices are too much for what you are getting. For example, my shoring and grits dish was $34- but it seemed like the max ceiling I would have wanted to pay for the finished product would have been more in the $28 arena and same for the dessert- it felt more like an $11 dessert. One thing I would also like to add is how freezing cold I was throughout the entire meal. I wore a cashmere long-sleeve dress and yet the A/C was cranked up so high that I felt the cold whip through my clothes like I was wearing a paper-thin cotton tee. Overall, I think CBD Provisions has a lot going for it. Nice decor, exciting location and some interesting menu items, but my experience here fell short of my expectations. I thought the prices were not on par with the food that was presented and the insanely cold dining made me feel uncomfortable the entire time.

This review for the bar only. Walking around downtown Dallas I worked up a thirst. It was also chilly. Some of the other bars in the area weren't conducive to my mood or had no stools available. Luckily I ducked in here and found a sleek, modern, warm and inviting bar. On the front end of a restaurant as you enter, it's a great alternative to other watering holes in the area, if you want to carry on a conversation. Go!

This is my second time visiting CBD. This place is located in the Joule and is convenient if you live nearby or in the area. A restaurant gets more points for having alternatives for non-pork eaters. Nothing worse than wanting meat with breakfast and it's all pork based. This place offers chicken sausage which is yummy, btw! The pecan pie French toast is good, but a bit too sweet for my liking, but the Texas Chili was delicious! It's Texas Chili, fyi, so if you are looking for beans and things you won't find it in this dish. The cornbread was AMAZING! It was buttery, hint of sweetness from the honey, and moist, but had the extra crunch around the edge (true cornbread lovers know) it was good and almost made me wish I just ordered that instead of the French toast. Also, they make a great chai latte! Their brunch menu isn't extensive but still good for what it offers. Overall, this place is worth checking out. I will be back to try their dinner!

Ate here new years eve. We we staying downtown and wanted someplace nice that wouldn't force a prefix menu at an exorbitant price. CBD fit the bill. I called a few days in advance to order the pig head and they accommodated. The meal itself was quite tasty but probably too much for two people (we gave it a good try). It doesn't come with any sides but considering we weren't taking food to go and struggled finishing it that was ok. Also ordered a couple drinks that were tasty. I would try again for sure

Came here for dinner with friends and really enjoyed it. I got the summer smash and it was really good and had a nice flavor. For dinner we tried the burger since a lot of ppl rave about it and it was delicious! They serve it with a beer mustard which was interesting but not bad. My husband got the tenderloin and really liked it. He substituted his side for mashed potatoes. The service was on point and it wasn't loud in the restaurant which we really appreciated. They do validate parking for the valet but only for the first hour after that it's $20 for valet.

First of all I had a almost perfect meal here. Everyone in my party was satisfied with the service and their entree. CBD Provisions is a nice classy spot with a changing menu. I had dinner here with my family and I ordered the butcher cut steak. The meat was cooked medium as ordered. It was a good quality cut of meat that was flavorful, moist, and tender. A chimichurri sauce was drizzled across the cuts of meat and accompanied the flavor well. The entree came with fries, but I am unable to critique them because I gave them away. I dinned here with family. I would love to come back for brunch. Parking can be a challenge since it is downtown. We parked on the street at the meters, which was free at night. Service was great and the restaurant was clean. You will find the restaurant inside the Joules Hotel, across the street from the giant eyeball.

We went for the Berkshire pig head carnitas (brined and slow roasted) The meat is tender with crispy skin. The half pig head is served family style with salsa roja, salsa verde, limes, corn tortillas and onion. This is definitely an experience to be had. The quality and flavor of the pork & pork skin was some of the best I've ever had. It isn't for everyone so beware. Eye ball, teeth, snout and ear are all on there! Service & ambience was on point.

    Classic breakfast

The food was well seasoned and cooked just right. The staff was very attentive and checked in regularly. The overall vibe was very pleasant.

Update for 31-May As…read morewe were staying at the hotel this is in, we walked down for brunch. The good: - Not busy - Server Caleb is quite pleasant - Scrambled eggs and breakfast potatoes were tasty - Yogurt Parfait was tasty but way too big. It was served in a large bowl. Way overkill. The not so great: - My wife's meal took over an hour to come out. Ordered just after 10 am and came out at 11:08 am - The Croque Madam needs to be removed from the menu. A French person would have been horrified at this dish In summary over three meals in the last 30 days, the food is hit and miss and the Kitchen is very slow. I love the location but I'm not sure we'll come back to eat at Toussaint. ---------- We mostly enjoyed our meals here. This review is for two visits that we've made here in the last 30 days. Our first visit here was on May 9, following an afternoon concert up the block at the Majestic Theatre. We popped in here about 5:30 pm and we shared a meal. They were able to do a kitchen split of the French dip meal. It was really tasty. The bartender worked the bar and the entire dining room. Must have been short handed that night but he did great. This weekend (May 29), we ended up staying at the Saint Elm Hotel which occupies the same building. We ended up at the Toussaint for dinner one night. We each had the French Onion Soup and we shared the Braised Short Rib dinner. The French Onion Soup was very good. It's in my top 3 of all time! The Braised Short Rib dinner - kitchen split, came out and presented great. Unfortunately, it was not served hot. It was barely warm. We sent it back for reheating. It came back out about 15 minutes later. The mashed potatoes, mushroom and gravy were warm. The short rib was not. We ate it cool anyway as we had a show to get to and I didn't really want to send it back again. That said, the potatoes, mushrooms and gravy had great flavor. The above all said for this dinner - I'd still come back to try other dinner dishes. Not sure my wife would agree.

Oh man... what a let down this visit was for us…read more My wife and I have come here at least once a year for the past 3 years, and we've always loved this place. The food has always been great and the experience was something we looked forward to. That's why we chose to celebrate an early Valentine's Day here -- to avoid the crazy rush and the preset menu. But this time? Completely different experience. We got seated right away because of our reservation, which was great. It took a few minutes for the waiter to come by -- no big deal. I ordered an Old Fashioned and honestly... the bartender needs some help. It came out full of crushed ice and tasted watered down. I sent it back, and the second one was basically the same drink with more whiskey thrown in. At that point, I just let it go. Then things just kept going downhill. After about 20 minutes, we realized we hadn't gotten any bread. We asked the waiter and he said he'd check. Another 10 minutes go by and he comes back saying, "Still no bread," and drops off the wrong appetizer -- we had only ordered a salad. He takes it back, and it's another 15 minutes before our actual salad shows up. Still no bread. At one point, we could literally see him arguing with someone in the back about why we didn't get bread yet. Not exactly something you want to watch during a date night. The food, when it finally came out, was delicious. No complaints there. But it took forever. By the time we were eating, it was about 45 minutes until closing... and we had gotten there two hours earlier. Then comes the payment situation. The waiter brings the check back and casually tells me I gave him two credit cards and he "just picked the brighter one." I look down and he had handed me someone else's credit card while mine was still sitting in the book. That's not a small mistake. Overall, it just felt unorganized and sloppy this time. I don't know if they're short staffed or just getting too busy for their own good, but it was disappointing, especially for a place we've genuinely enjoyed in the past. Hoping it was just an off night... but it definitely made us think twice about coming back.
