Trying Odelay for the first time. Let me tell you, this spot definitely does not disappoint. My wife and I decided to have dinner here and will definitely be coming back. I went ahead started off with a Queso and a Guava margarita!! Just delicious, the queso was really good with the chile con carne.. For entree we got the combo fajitas and let me tell you.. wow! Greedy taste and flavor all around!! Our server was very polite and attentive. The place has a nice patio as well as the interior. Music was also great! No wonder this place is always busy.. Mexican here is commercial. Me and my partner mistakenly came to this place thinking it was Escondido when we got here we were like we'll give it a chance. The chips were hot and fresh but still had a stale texture about them. I got the chicken fajita plate, the food came out within five minutes that's always alarming to me. The food was hot but not just cooked hot, chicken was dry ands lacked flavor, the rice was lukewarm ands I didn't taste the beans cause I assumed it would be not tasty. There is a sports bar with TVs for those so inclined. Only two drawbacks out of their control: 1. This has nothing to do with the restaurant - the parking lot is from 50 years ago when cars were much smaller than today. Don't drive the hummer here. 2. The clientele in this part of town does not like chorizo or pork, so they took chorizo off the menu, and have only one pork dish on the regular menu. After finally being greeted, I requested that we move to a booth that was right next to our table. After giving us numerous excuses, she went inside and talked to her manager, who told us they weren't that it was a reserved table. This is funny, considering when I called early that day, I was told they weren't taking reservations. Needless to say, that table remained empty for the entirety of my meal. Additionally, on the patio I saw a bird come up and pluck a chip out of another tables bowl. The "manager" looked over, saw what was happening, cracked a smile, and then walked in the opposite direction. Didn't even offer to get the table a new bowl of chips. Muchachos, another Tex Mex restaurant just down the street, has excellent food and a wonderful staff. What the heck is a flauta with only flavorless black bean filling??? The actual chicken flautas had a very strange flavor, it tasted borderline old to me. We arrived at 5, and were told they couldn't seat us for 45 min - 1 hour because their large tables were for reservations. Then we asked if we could sit in two empty booths near the bar, but they said children couldn't sit in the bar area. We've sat there before with kids AND there were several children at other tables in the bar area. One word may help you decide on going here. Patio. More often than not I opt to sit inside most Dallas restaurants with patios. Why?After thought. So many are in bright sun,adjacent to automotive exhaust,external noise...etc. Just put something outside and call it "a patio"(after thought). The first impression you get here is,I want to sit on the patio! I did and loved it. It's a large space esthetically divided creating a great atmosphere. I'd come back just to sample the extensive tequila menu,out here. The only thing holding Oldey back from five stars is drinks. Little bit light on the alcohol. Evidently they haven't learned the #1 Tex Mex restaurant rule in Dallas. Serve em Stiff. Other than that,food, atmosphere,service and price are good. I will say,there is more and more competition in this upscale leaning concept these days. Good fresh not greasy chips with mild salsa. Strange that they didn't offer shredded beef tacos, only ground beef which was super dry but tasty. Mine had premade shells. As a regular customer who lives just five minutes away, I've always enjoyed Odelay Tex-Mex on Lovers Lane--until my recent visit, which left me feeling disrespected and disappointed. I discreetly requested an extra bowl of chips due to health concerns; one of my employees, whom I was treating to dinner, had been sick, and I wanted to avoid sharing food. I even offered to pay for the extra portion. While the server initially agreed, she returned to say the manager had declined the request. When I spoke directly with the manager, Oscar, he not only refused again but suggested I provide a doctor's note to justify the request. As the owner of several concierge medical clinics, I found that suggestion both inappropriate and unprofessional. No guest should ever be asked to disclose personal health information for a basic request, especially one they're willing to pay for. Oscar's tone was defensive and dismissive. He told me I was welcome to leave a bad review and added that "unlike most restaurants, the customer is not always right." While he eventually brought the chips, it was framed as a reluctant exception rather than a reasonable act of hospitality. We still paid for our meals and left a generous tip out of respect for the staff, but the overall handling of the situation was disappointing and lacked professionalism. I sent a private email to the leadership team outlining the experience in full, hoping for a thoughtful response. To date, I've received no reply, which only reinforces the impression that guest feedback isn't taken seriously here. If you're looking for great food and respectful service, I highly recommend heading just down the street to Jose on Lovers. They consistently get it right. read more

Visited Odelay on a weeknight, and got a table almost immediately. The restaurant is pretty dark if that's not your thing, but didn't bother me! Our server was pretty good too. We didn't wait long for anything - all our food and drinks came out pretty quickly. But he wasn't the most helpful either in regards to providing recommendations: The food was really good! I got the birria tacos, and really enjoyed it. Prices were a little steep for what you get. It came with a soft cheese taco. I was expecting queso on the cheese taco but it had a verde sauce. It was good, just not what I was expecting. It had a tamale that was pretty good and I'm not a huge tamale fan. I tried the pork dish with the mole verde was tasty. Came with really good flour tortillas.
