Stopped in on a Wednesday night while in town for a conference. I wanted somewhere non-touristy, off the main areas, but with excellent food and atmosphere. I hit the jackpot gem with Bucket and Rope. This place is just off the main areas in downtown near the Dallas Farmer's Market. The patrons are mostly locals who know what's up. The layout is spacious but welcoming. I sat at the bar as I was solo, but there were plenty of great seating options including comfortable couches. The patio is currently being re-done, but will be perfect for the upcoming fall season. The menu offerings were plentiful and varied, but there are specials and rotating options as well. Alexa at the bar greeted me, and went over the menu and specials with me. She did a great job making my cocktails and giving casual conversation throughout. I ordered the off-menu Steak Frites with broccolini and fries. The steak was charred perfectly on the outside and moist and at the lovely medium temp on the inside. The broccolini was on point with just a bit of spice from the red pepper. Fries were shoestring style, and they did it right with that perfect crisp on the outside and soft inside. I learned that Thursdays are paella night! What a great surprise in downtown Dallas! When in the city again, this will absolutely be my go to place for cocktails and great food. read more

Not sure how it was made but it wasn't traditional. However they have a frozen Old Fashioned drink that was a great balance! I really like the decor. I thought it was very cute that the name is bucket and rope. When you walk in there is both hanging above the door acting as a pulling. It's super cute. I had to eggs, Benedict and breakfast potatoes I cannot remember the name of the drink I had but it was very good. One thing I really liked is at the napkins have questions on them as you were waiting for your food. It's a fun game to ask your table mate the question. Came for brunch and what a wonderful time was had! We grabbed a spot on the patio and Johnna was our server. She was friendly, attentive, and gave some great suggestions. We started off with a pitcher of mimosa and the duck taquitos. I'm usually not a fan duck however I was told to give it a try. If you hadn't told me it was duck, I probably would have thought it was chicken. The mimosa was a build your own, it came with 3 juices - orange, pineapple and cranberry - and you got to pour as much or as little juice as you wanted. Between the two of us, we each got about 3 glasses. I got the French toast, which tasted like a deep fried donut, in a good way. The outside was crunchy, the inside still had the pillow custard texture. However in my opinion it needed more of the apple pecan slaw especially if you weren't trying to drown them in syrup. My friend had the chilequillas which she really enjoyed but did mention a few times that it was a little spicy. We ended the meal with dessert which was rich and luscious but oh so delicious. I came here on a Sunday evening to grab dinner for one. It's dark and intimate on the inside and it also has a patio where they played sports on the tv. It wasn't too crowded but it looked like there was one server and one bartender. The bartender pitched in to help out even thought I sat on the patio. She also helped me with my order. As an app, I got the duck taquitos which were fantastic. They were crispy in the outside and I liked the cream that came with it. As an entree, I got Zoe's carbonara and I didn't like it too much. A BIG welcome to the neighborhood for Chef Victor Hugo, his team and latest creation, Bucket & Rope!! I am a huge fan of what they are doing. For openers, the building has a lot of history, going back to the late 1800s it was home to Liberty Bank and actually located a few blocks away. Over a decade ago, the building was targeted for demolition to allow for street widening project. It was a purchased by a management company for $1 and then relocated to its current location. Shortly, after that is when Green Door Public House operated until the latter half of 2024. When they closed and moved out I was hopeful the space would continue to be used for a restaurant of some type and little did I know that plans were underway. Chef Hugo and team swooped in, made a few improvements, established a new menu and wallah...Bucket & Rope is on the scene!! If it was possible, I'd give them 10 stars!! This has quickly become my favorite place for food, sips and great experiences. It took me forever to make my way there but since doing so I've been there almost weekly. The food is that amazing!! To date, everything I've tried has been mind-blowing delicious. So far, I have tried Rope In A Bucket which is there spin on calamari...this is a must have for a starter. From the sandwiches section of the menu, I've had Mike's Burger which is Wagyu served on a brioche bun with all the trimmings...simply delicious!!! My favorite item from the entree section is the Blackened Texas Redfish. It's served a creamy parmesan risotto, green beans and mango-habanero salsa and it never misses!!! For dessert, I've had their pecan pie which is served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Recently, I stopped through for brunch and had the Hot Chicken sandwich along with an order of Blueberry Pancakes...all delicious!! Thankfully, I'm fairly disciplined when it comes exercising otherwise, I might have issues thanks to Bucket & Rope. The staff is top notch! Everyone is always friendly, welcoming and seem to enjoy what they are doing. Add to that, on many of visits, Chef Hugo has been present and spends time greeting guests and ensuring things are running smoothly. As for parking, there is a small free parking lot next to building. Otherwise, there is some street parking in the vicinity. Lastly, when you visit, as you enter, be sure to look up (out of all the times I've been there, I never noticed that until my most recent visit...what a nice touch). We checked this place out recently for lunch and had a good experience. We were able to park in their designated lot at the time we visited. The location is cool in an old brick building. Our server was friendly and attentive. We started with the brisket balls. The raspberry chipotle jam paired well with the brisket. My wife had the spicy chicken sandwich and I had the burger. If I had to compare them to anything they were like Boudin balls then ordered the duck taquitos thinking they would have a little more flavor and they didn't! They were fried to perfection though.
