Honestly I had Encina on a small list of places to eat a while back and I couldn't remember why? So when we found ourselves down in BA, we thought what the heck let's just walk in and see what happens. It was a Saturday morning and it was pretty packed but we didn't have to wait for a table which was nice. We had a lovely table in the back room. Loved the vibe of this place too. It was cozy and intimate but not stuffy or boring either. The Clarified Bloody Mary was pretty unique and deliciously horseradish forward. It was a nice twist on the drink. I love a good croissant and though that they don't make theirs in house, 6 bucks for a warmed up croissant from Empire bakery was one of the better croissants I've had in my life. Since it was our first time, we got all the viral hits. The breakfast sandwich was pretty yummy. Honestly though, I think there might have been better options on their well written menu. You could taste all the quality in the ingredients but it didn't have a big flavor punch and the texture to me was just all soft, no contrast. The Goat Guisado Tacos, now that was a game changer. Build your own tacos, super flavorful stewed goat meat with the cabbage crunch and those amazing cheese crusted tortillas - Yea that was a show stopper! But for the main event, those Blue Corn Pancakes 100% lived up to the hype. The pancakes themselves had this lovely mealy texture and they weren't super sweet on their own. But enjoyed with that perfectly melted butter, butterscotch, and maple syrup, yea what a perfectly balanced and harmonious bite of food. Well done! Can't wait to come back! read more

Great service and great food. Family in town so had a big table but the drinks and food all come out quickly. Got the mimosa with watermelon juice which was surprisingly really good. Might be my favorite way to have one now. For brunch got one of my regulars of the pork belly and grits. As usual, I ate every bite on my plate. The crispy and fatty pork pairs perfectly with the cheesy grits and runny egg. Tried some of my mom's pancakes too and they were delicious. read more

First time dining at Encina! Went with a large group to celebrate a friend. Service was excellent but food was just ok. I started with a non-alcoholic drink, the Cactus Jill. Presentation was beautiful but was just average. Not sure if it was the aperitif or possibly bitters in the drink that threw the taste off a bit for me. As an appetizer I started with the cornbread. It came out warm but was quite dense. The butter was a great compliment but the whipped feta was a bit off putting. I originally wanted the catfish as my entree but opted for the red fish instead. Braised black eye peas were great but I felt the red fish could have had a bit more flavor/punch in the seasonings used. It seems as if Encina is really well known for brunch so I think I'd like that menu a bit more. read more

Encina was very yummy! I was really missing a couple of pancake spots back home and started searching for a spot to try to find some good ones. The blue corn pancakes really came through! Different than both of my favorites at home, these hold their own against both. I came in for a solo Sunday brunch on the patio, the spot was buzzin'! I started with a mimosa and coffee, ordered the pancakes I'd intentionally driven here to try with a side of eggs and bacon. Very yummy! Most of the reviews here are about brunch, but dinner is outstanding! We stopped in for our reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant itself is very inviting with a great vibe. Our server was very attentive and answered all of our questions. We started with the Baked Brie, Mezze Platter, and the Mexican Seafood Cocktail. All of the items were well prepared and very tasty! The Focaccia that comes with the Brie could be a great item by itself and the Hummus on the Mezze platter was super tasty. We also had the Braised Short Rib which was very well prepared with a great sauce. The Pork Chop was one of the best I had with a fantastic seasoning. The Greens that come with it should be on the menu all on their own, they are that good! Encina is a great option for lunch or dinner! You definitely need to stop reading and get in here! read more

This is a super cute spot on the edge of bishop arts. They have a lit of seating for a spot that looks small on the outside. They have lots of tasty options to choose from including a brunch menu (didnt see since i went at dinner) food came quick and service was quick and friendly. We loved everything we put in our mouths! Brunch was amazing and so was the service. I got the Blue Corn Pancakes and it was so good. It has a unique taste, but familiar at the same time, and I love that the butterscotch wasn't too much. It came with bacon that had a hint of sweetness to it... pleasantly unexpected. We were a party of 4 and our food came out pretty fast. Kudos to the kitchen, especially at such peak hours during weekend brunch. I didn't get to try it, but the French Toast had a few compliments. This gives me something to look forward to. read more

Five stars from the moment we stepped in. We had reservations made as I was able to celebrate my birthday here. Everything was remarkable. The apps? Remarkable. Corn bread with a savory and sweet topping? Yes please. They add two dollops on top. One is sorghum butter, the other is whipped feta. They were the perfect addition to the sweet cornbread. We also ordered the brisket croquets which my husband absolutely devoured. For mains: I ordered the braised short rib that sat on a bed of asparagus and mashed potatoes. Oh my word. Oh. My. Word. I will dream about this short rib for years to come. It was phenomenal in its tenderness, flavor, presentation, everything. By far the best I've ever had! My husband ordered the pork chops and said the same about his meal. I even have it a taste and couldn't believe how delectable the flaky crust was. Wow. Cocktails: I had the cactus jack which was light and refreshing. Definitely recommend! The lemon drop martini is also a good choice. My birthday dessert - YUM!!!! Been wanting to try Encina for quite some time and my sis and I made our way here on a busy Sunday morning. We were unable to make reservations so we took our chances and just came, next time I won't go without a resy, all they had available was the bar area which I'm typically not interested in. I already knew what I wanted so I ordered the blue corn pancakes which comes with bacon and I got a scrambled egg on the side. Sis ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy with a sunnyside egg. Everything looked delicious and nicely presented, i was ready to dig in! The pancakes did not disappoint, I knew they'd be good, they were light and fluffy and the butterscotch throughout was a great touch. The cajeta was delicious but skimp as was the portion of syrup that came with the pancakes. The bacon was great quality but it wasn't hot in temperature at all. My sis didn't really care for the biscuits and gravy; I had a taste and it was pretty bland, more seasoning it would have been really good. The prices were decent excluding the egg. I looked over the receipt and noticed my scrambled egg was $8.00 which I was taken aback by, I'll admit it was a large portion of eggs for one person but absurdly priced. Great experience! I recommend making a reservation if you can. We walked in and the floor was all booked for reservations and we had to be seated at the bar. When we sat at the bar, there were only a few seats as well. I noticed parties being turned away because they did not have any reservations. Service was great, kept checking in. Food: I ordered the pork belly and cheesy grits and it did not disappoint! The pork belly was moist yet crispy and went well with the grits. The sunny side up eggs were cooked so that the yolk wasnt all the way done. It does have a bit of a kick so if you are sensitive to spicy, that is something to consider. I believe it was a stack of 3 and they also come with 2 slices of bacon. They do have vegetarian and non alcoholic drink options. When you walk into Encina you are greeted with a warm welcome and immediately smell amazing food being prepared. They have a well curated wine list and full bar. If you love a rich bold coffee, I highly recommend their espresso martini. We were disappointed with the frites and steak as the steak was overcooked and dry (we asked for medium rare). The rest of our meal was absolutely delicious. The staff was very gracious and wanted to recook our entry, but we were in a bit of a time crunch so declined their offer. Went here on a Sunday during French hours. Did not even think to have a reservation for myself in a girlfriend after church but luckily there were seating at the bar. The bartenders were great at notifying my friend and I of what are some of the top choice menus that are there from their drinks to their foods. Now I will say on a Sunday the place is amazingly packed so get there early and try to make a reservation. The food was amazing We had great company a couple who is there from Finland celebrating their birthday was present and also shared some information about the food and drinks that they ordered. Every time I come here, I feel like Ive been here before, but its always a hazy memory. I dont understand why, because this place is fantastic (if you score a reservation or get there early enough for brunch). I came here during brunch and it was a great balance between american breakfast staples but then something a little different. My friends and I shared everything we ordered, and it ended up being fairly egg heavy. I should have ordered something without egg, but we were already recovering from all the food and drinks we ate the night before. The breakfast flatbread is definitely more like a pizza than a elongated piece of bread. Flavor wise it felt like one of those skillet bowls, but evenly spread out on a flatbread pizza crust. I was quite satisfied with this "flatbread" flavor wise. For my preference, the crust could have been crispier or more rigid in its texture, as it was a little limp. The chilaquiles were what I wanted from this dish: crispy house made tortilla chips, fresh vegetables, and substantial meat, cheese, and sauce. The egg sandwich seems basic on paper, but its well crafted and quite satisfying taste wise and satiation wise. The brioche bun could have been a little more buttery or softer on the outside for my preference, but it was still sturdy, had a good bread flavor, and not dry. If you want american breakfast meat staples, but dont want to eat them with a fork, order this then. The eggs themselves on every dish were executed with such finesse and craft. It felt like the kind of whipped eggs you get from a 5 star hotel breakfast at some fancy establishment. They also packed a great flavor as well, telling me they are using either high quality eggs or have great seasonings/oils included. Maybe a little of both! The parking is a little stressful, but at least there is dedicated parking. The service here is standard, although I felt my waitress was pushing me to get the pancakes several times, which was a little annoying. I know she was trying to joke around, but it also felt like it was a tactic to either get us out of there, or get a bigger bill. I definitely would be coming back here again! Next time I will try more stuff that doesnt have all eggs in it! read more

I've only heard great things about this place, but i was kinda skeptical cause the menu looks a little too eclectic for me. I went for brunch and i was pleasantly surprised. We split the montreal long haul and the pork belly. I liked the montreal long haul because it had a little bit of everything! it had the pancakes which live up to the hype, the duck was so tender but crispy on the outside, the hash browns were very much like mcd's which i really appreciate and just overall delicious.
