My friend ordered the pork belly & grits. Normally the trend is shrimp & grits, which seems like an appetizer at most places. But here no, the pork belly & grits was delicious cooked to perfection. The grits were so good I had to order a side of it. If you're coming for brunch be sure to get there before 1pm to ensure that the entire menu is available because they will run out of food by the time they close at 2pm. Celebrated Mother's Day here at Encina. Our daughter had already tried it a while back and liked it so she picked this place. We we ordered was the chilaquiles, blue corn pancakes, our daughter and her husband ordered a turkey sandwich and french toast. The chilaquiles needed seasoning or something to take it over the top. The blue corn pancakes however were the star of the meal. These things we the BEST!! Just know that they can take longer to get to your table because of how small their griddle is, so be prepared for that. Our daughter loved her french toast and the son-in-law said the turkey sandwich was too salty. The migas came as a ginormous bowl of food that lasted me like 4 meals. The true highlight of everything though were the blue corn pancakes. Like ohmygoodness they are unreal how good they are. They have an incredible texture with a crisp exterior and a perfectly fluffy interior. We had dinner at Encina, and the food was absolutely mind blowingly phenomenal! We dine at different restaurants throughout DFW every week, so we definitely have had our fair share of experiences throughout the metroplex. The biggest disappointment of this place was the service. We spent almost $300 on food and drinks as a party of two, and were not treated that way. We wanted a side of fries, and while not explicitly on the menu as a side, it was offered as a side for many of the entrees so we figured it would be no big deal. We basically were told the kitchen was "too busy" to make a side of fries, but if we ordered a burger, we could then get fries. It was a little silly considering they obviously can make them if we ordered more food. We'd 100% come back here based on the food alone, but the service experience could largely improve and I could see them being a much more popular dinner spot in Dallas. We'd still go back, but hope this feedback is taken constructively instead of negatively. read more

They do not have a kids menu, but we tried our hardest to make it work. My daughter also has an egg allergy, so all she had was fries and bacon, so keep this in mind! This is such a cute brunch spot! Extra love from me for the covered/climatized dog-friendly patio! There's not much parking available in the lot, but there is plenty of street parking next to the restaurant. We ordered mimosas (for which they have various flavors including pomegranate), which were delicious. We then got the blue corn pancakes to share, and I ordered the spiced honey glazed pork belly. The blue corn pancakes were phenomenal -- fluffy, not too sweet (they come with a side of bacon), and the corn flavor was subtle. The pork belly was also tasty with the perfect balance of sweet and savory, but a little bit too heavy for me. They used scented Lysol to clean the table one table over from me. Fake, chemical citrus smell. I could see the bottle clearly. Sprayed near food and people. These products are not meant for restaurants and especially not in area where food is served. I've worked in many restaurants and never even used these chemical/harsh products around guests or even back of house. Spiced Honey Glazed Pork Belly - $18 - 3.5/5 Fun dish with lots of varying ingredients: eggs, salsa, cheese grits, and pork belly. It is presented well, with each component cooked well and the whole dish coming together well. The price tag is a bit on the high side, though, for the quantity of food. Montreal Long Haul - $27 - 2/5 Pancake, tater tots, scrambled eggs, and a sausage. Menu says duck leg confit so maybe they ran out? Maybe the sausage was ground up duck leg and then it was cooked in the form of a sausage with sausage flavoring? Maybe by duck leg confit, they mean sausage and tater tots cooked in duck leg fat? I don't know, but the dish we got was incredibly overpriced for a duckless dish. Server never came back for us to ask. Pricing aside, the pancake was really good. The rest of the items were good, too, but they were just scrambled eggs, sausage, and tater tots... Service - 2/5 Service was very slow and inattentive. Took about 10 minutes to get our drink orders, another 10 minutes to take our food orders, and then never came back to check on our food, which we wanted to ask him where the duck was on our Montreal Long Haul. Even when we were done, took him quite a while to get our second drink orders (which we did after we were done eating due to his lack of attendance) and bring out our check. Two dudes brunching and we spent about 2.5 hours there. With the amount of time we were waiting, I was able to spend a good amount of time observing his movement and prioritization. I understand it was busy but our server was taking frequent breaks and did not prioritize tables that came first or the tables that needed to put in their order or have drinks refilled. He also only had 4 tables with staggered timings. All in all, food was good. Food is very high on the pricing (especially the $27 menu item that said it would come with duck but didn't). Most recently I had the beer-battered catfish and the breading was thicker than the fillet. It was served atop a glorious salad of avocados, citrus and herbs but the fish itself was disappointing. It's a cute dining room that extends into a covered patio beyond the bar, and the ladies' room has some... interesting wallpaper. Before my most recent visit, I dined here for brunch a year ago. Wow. So impressed by Encina! Decided to try this spot out for dinner on a Saturday night. We had reservations and glad we did as they were pretty busy. Since it was our first time we opted to try a few starters and drink to check it out. Our server was very helpful with suggestions and we settled on beef tartare, smoked salmon rillettes and the PEI mussels. I can say comfortably the beef tartare was the BEST I've ever had, and I will return to have that again...likely within the week. The smoked salmon rillette was also phenomenal, and packed with so much flavor. I could (and likely did) eat an entire load of bread smeared with that salmon, it was so good. And the PEI mussels were good, but couldn't hold up to the other apps. There was chorizo in it, which felt pointless to me and my partner felt it overwhelmed the flavor. Not bad by any means, we still asked for extra bread for the broth! The Spiced Honey Glazed Pork Belly was my favorite of everything tried, with the Blue Corn Pancakes coming in second, and the quiche come in third. The biscuits and gravy is not the traditional southern plate you expect so make sure you notice that they are kale biscuits. Overall, not bad but not what we were expecting. The chocolate croissant was good though. I was a little disappointed to see they only had regular drip coffee, no lattes or cappuccino for 10 am, but if you're a mimosa fan I want to say they had a few options. What a lovely spot for brunch! I was at Encina for a birthday celebration and I really enjoyed my experience. Our server gave great recommendations, was attentive, and had a sense of humor. I asked for a recommendation between two items and he gave me further descriptions from what was on the menu so I could make my decision. When we all ordered and no one had ordered the pancakes, he suggested that we get one to share, as it's the one item on the menu he strongly recommends that we try. And boy, was he right. The pancake was crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, and the blue corn works! (I just googled blue corn pancakes and it looks like it might be a Navajo dish that many people know about, but I am just learning about it.) It was really lovely with the saltiness from the bacon. My English muffin came with the house made beef cheek pastrami, pimento cheese, and deviled egg puree, and it was very delicious. I liked each of the components--even the English muffin was quite nice (and a lot richer than the healthier English muffins)--but I got to put them all together in one bite. I was lucky that we all shared the pancake, because my dish was very savory, and I got to also have some sweet. I am still thinking about that pancake. I will definitely be back, even though Bishop Arts is a long drive for me now. read more

My husband and I recently came here for brunch and I hate we hadn't checked this place out sooner. Encino is a quaint yet welcoming spot for brunch, lunch, and dinner. The parking is a little tricky due to the small size of the parking lot, but we lucked up and snagged a spot right in front upon arrival. Even though we did not have a reservation, we were quickly seated and our waiter quickly greeted us with waters while we looked over the menu. My husband and I decided to get the mimosa carafe with the seasonal juices to accompany it (pomegranate and spiced apple). Even though I'm a huge pomegranate fan, the spiced apple was a pleasant surprise and my favorite of the two. It wasnt overly sweet and had the perfect amount of spice and apple. I also ordered an espresso martini and it's honestly one of the best I've had here in Dallas. We started with the Mexican shrimp cocktail with nice sized chunks of fresh shrimp and pickled vegetables. For our entrées, I ordered the spiced honey glazed pork belly which was perfectly crisp on the outside, and extremely tender on the inside. It paired very well with the cheddar grits and the sunny side up eggs. My husband ordered the blue corn pancake meal, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that these are the best pancakes I've had in quite a while. Encino allows customers to purchase the pancake mix but unfortunately it was sold out by the time we left. I definitely plan on going back to purchase it though. I tried Encina for the first time and I really loved it. The atmosphere was so nice, very rustic and relaxing. Gives you the vibes like you were in the Texas hill country. I had ordered the breakfast burger without the egg (sorry I don't like eggs!) and it was pretty good! The hash brown pattie at the bottom was interesting.
