Very nice layout and very cool vintage classy feel from dining area to the restroom. Good size menu with various options from wraps and sandwiches to a ribeye or fish options. We started by splitting a Cesar salad. They place a little sliver of actual anchovie on top. Great flavor on the salad. I ordered a long island ice tea and even though it wasn't on the menu they still accommodated. One of the best ones I've ever had. I also loved the glass it came in. We went with the wrap, the italian beef, the burger and the patty melt. Patty melt was the star. The gravy that it comes with was so good I even dipped my italian beef in it. Wow -- we had such an excellent experience here! We've been to several steakhouses in Dallas, so when this restaurant was recommended to us, we honestly didn't think it could be that great. Well, we were wrong! We started with a bottle of champagne, which was excellent, followed by the oysters. They were incredibly fresh, delicious, and surprisingly large. We also ordered the cheese beignets, which were absolutely delicious, although very rich, so they probably aren't something I would order again. Since we already had two appetizers, I decided to skip ordering another, but next time I definitely want to try the spicy tuna tacos! For dinner, we both ordered the filet mignon, and they were cooked to absolute perfection. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts, which were fantastic -- the perfect balance of salty with just a hint of sweetness. For dessert, we ordered the sticky toffee pudding (I think that's what it was called!), and it was amazing as well. All in all, we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Goodwin's had escaped my radar for eight years even though it is in an area with other great restaurants. We reserved a table last night on the patio and were comfortable with the air conditioners they provided. Please note parking can be problematic, however, they offer a valet service just behind the restaurant. The restaurant is traditional with antique tiled floors and dark wood trim. Yet the restaurant wasn't "heavy" but imbued a lighter, ebullient atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be having a marvelous time, which was contagious. FYI, I think Dallasites have it wrong when they eat so early. I come from late night cities (Louisville and Chicago) and we would regularly go out for dinner at 11pm and had plenty of great options. In Dallas great options tend to close around 11pm - bad for business as they lose an entire last wave of customers. Anyway we arrived late for Dallas diners 9pm and found the place at capacity. They seated us immediately and Ellen, our server, attended to us within minutes. She made great suggestions such as the Crispy Zucchini Chips (which I will add to my own menu), English Pea & Potato Pierogi and the Bone-In Pork Chop. I ordered my favorite drink, a filthy dirty Saphire Gine Martini with Blue Cheese olives. I like to add anchovies to my martini's and Ellen fulfilled the request - great service! I had the Bone-In Pork Chop rare and found it wonderful. When my martini ran dry, Ellen suggested the Nebbiolo (a red wine from the Piedmont region) that paired perfectly with my dish. We took home leftovers and skipped dessert. However, we had such a marvelous time, we will return. read more

They added candles to the birthday cake that we brought in, which was very nice of them! Apps: Cheese Beignets and Zucchini Chips - both were tasty! The beignets were small and not too heavy. I enjoyed the herby sauce on the chips, but wished it was served on the side! Mains: English Pea & Potato Pierogi, Mac and Cheese, and Vegetable Pasta - they were very nice to make a vegetarian pasta dish for us, and it was delicious! The tomato sauce was flavorful. I've been wanting to try Goodwin's and finally did and enjoyed our dinner very much! It does get extra packed in there, we had reservations for 8pm on a Saturday and every table was booked and the no seats at the bar! Loved the ambiance and vibe of the restaurant. Because of how crowded it is, it does get super loud in there so it was a little hard to have a conversation hahaha But service was good and the food was great and the drinks were delicious! I've been twice - a weekend lunch and a Thursday dinner. It's nice to have an upscale dining option in the neighborhood. Lunch was a bit more chill but dinner definitely is an event - the place is packed and gets loud. Not overwhelming though. Reservations are a must at night. Parking is tough- the valet often has a waiting line. I have parked a block away on the side streets and it worked fine as long as you double check for no parking signs (ha for a date night I'm gonna use valet). Service has been professional and very efficient and friendly both times. They seem to have good systems in place. Food: I feel it's really solid and I haven't encountered anything I didn't enjoy. On the flip side I wasn't completely blown away either. I really liked everything it's just that it doesn't quite achieve 5 star ratings for me considering price point. Cheese beignets are light and flavorful. Tuna tartare cones are pretty nice. Pork chop and chicken were good entrees. I had a sandwich or maybe a burger at lunch and enjoyed it. Had been really excited to try out Goodwin's only to be sorely disappointed by a recurring theme of their food: everything was crazy soft, almost mushy. My date and I were so turned off by the internal texture of the martini shrimp and the lack of salt that we let our server take it away unfinished - not a practice of ours. The beignets were fine, nothing special, and for a deep-fried dish there was a missing crunch that one would expect. The red bird chicken was so simple, flavorless, and dry. Another plate I let our server take away unfinished. Finally, the GW burger. For a patty blend of chuck, brisket, and short rib, the flavor should've exploded. Maybe it didn't because it came out rare when it was ordered medium. This made the burger mushy and messy. It was only the horseradish pickle that punched through and it was outstanding. Makes me wanna buy a jar! Unfortunately, though, nothing at Goodwin's would make me want to give it a second try. read more

The bartenders are always super friendly. We have always had great service, and the servers know the menu well. The food is reliably hot and expertly prepared. The meals have significant plate appeal. We have tried both the steaks and the seafood. The Seabass is exceptional served on a bed of white beans. This was a really good meal. Started with the frozen cosmo and fried zucchini, both of which were fantastic. The salmon entree was also good. However, the real star of the show was the crunch cake. We had the best experience. Cheyenne, our waiter, was knowledgeable and very personable. The good seems made to share and for a fair price. The chicken salad sandwich was well seasoned, the bread held up well to the sauciness of the meat. The salad was fresh and crisp with a simple yet wonderful herb dressing. The BURGER! Nice ambiance and interesting set up as there are three different areas to choose your experience. There's the main dining area, a speakeasy type bar and at more casual bar/eating area at the entrance. The food was good although it's so hard to eat clean when you dine out as everything is loaded with so much damn butter, oils or beef fat here. It was a struggle to make good choices but they do their best to accommodate your dietary preferences which is appreciated. The burger is pretty small without any vegetables and is much better for a starter, think more like a slider appetizer. The steak was great but kind of small too. I know it said 8oz but it still seemed not enough. I'm personally not a fan of the potato pave it's served with but the mashed potatoes and mushrooms were delicious. Couldn't escape the copious amounts of butter on these either...It even says it on the menu! By the time dessert arrived, we threw our hands up and just said f*ck it and accepted the fact we are going to be fat bellied afterwards. We had our February birthday celebration at Goodwin's this year and it was a huge success. We are a group of older guys and now only 3 of us are still able to make it. We used to have night out with dinner but now we do lunch. We chose this restaurant based on the D magazine article about the best burgers in dallas. Goodwin's burger was rated one of the best and it lived up to their reputation. We had one burger medium rare and one burger medium well and we had one patty melt, along with salad and fries. We had a rly friendly server as well (Jared!). Bonus: there is a bar in the back of the restaurant that is perfect for an after dinner drink! To start, we shared the party dip and the tuna cones. Love the presentation of the tuna cones but not practical - hard to get the perfect bite with the avocado at the bottom of the cone. The Nancy's party dip is delicious - it tastes exactly like spicy htipiti! For our main course, we tried the halibut entree, Mac n cheese side, and Bibb stack salad. It was most certainly a good win for us Saturday night. My GOODness, they know how to do it here. Good till the last drop of cheesy beignet- pure bliss, satin silk in your mouth. This is a nice spot. There are 3 very distinct eating areas. There is a dimly lit dining room then you have the bright lively bar area then you have the patio seating. I chose a booth in the bar area. The service was friendly attentive and in sync. My empty plates were promptly removed from table as soon as I finished. I was asked at the appropriate times was I ready for the next course or would I like another course. And they gave great recs. Started with a really nice aperol spritz. Followed by cheese beignets. The coating was thin and crispy. The inside was a really nice creamy cheese served with a side of warm cheese. The tuna cones were a nice surprise. The cheese beignets were literally to die for, we knew they'd taste good but they beat our high expectations. The frozen cosmo was also a great drink.
