There is so many great things to say about Goodwins! My boss and I stopped in for a quick lunch in between meeting with clients and it was the perfect place to relax and grab a bite. First, the ambiance is phenomenal. We sat on the patio since the weather was nice and it was definitely picture perfect. As far as the service goes, everyone was super nice! For food, I enjoyed a chicken salad sandwich on Texas toast and omg it was AMAZING! the portion size was huge, and it came with some tasty fries! We have been meaning to drive down to try this place for ages and finally decided to come here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. From the start, the start of the show was the service. The hosts were very nice and seated us despite arriving early for our reservation. Our server, Abigail, was absolutely lovely and treated us so well. Her energy was so sweet and exactly what you want in a server. The manager treated us to a celebratory glass of champagne, which was so special. He stopped by frequently, made conversation, and left us his card before we left. To pair with the excellent service, the food was absolutely fabulous. The beignets were warm little pockets of cheese and the zucchini chips had this great seasoning on them that made them soo good! I ordered the turkey tzatziki wrap and it was very flavorful and perfect with the skinny fries. My mom got the patty melt and loved it- she said the flavors were perfect. Love the ambiance. The lighting makes everyone look beautiful lol. I set at the bar and our bartender was everything. I gave him the flavors I love in a cocktail and he whipped up something for us. Our server was attentive and so polite. The food.. uhm it sounds great on paper and has so much potential but I think it needed acid and spice to the tuna and the zucchini chips. The cheese beignets would probably go better with a marinara sauce instead of the cheese sauce. But regardless this was a great evening treat for me. I love Goodwin's! This is more like a 4.5 for me food-wise. The atmosphere is really warm. I've enjoyed many girls nights here! Perfect for a date night too. We had some tasty cocktails at Goodwins in the Lower Greenville neighborhood in East Dallas. I'm not a big Cosmo guy, but this frozen Cosmo was delicious. It's a unique spin because they include Licor 43 which is a wonderful Spanish liqueur. Licor 43 is light and sweet with vanilla notes. The ingredients in their Frozen Cosmo are vodka, Licor 43, cranberry and lime. I may try to recreate it for the vodka lovers in our crew. @goodwins.dtx @licor43usa I was in the mood for a Martini so went with the James Bond classic Vesper. It was fantastic. A Vesper is made with Vodka and Gin. It also includes Lillet which is a French fortified wine. It's subtle and light and is usually used like an Amaro or liqueur to complement other ingredients. @lillet.usa I would definitely check out Goodwin's if you're around the hood. People at work have been raving about this place so my wife and I decided to try it for lunch. We had an excellent experience. They have a nice bar area when you walk in. It separates the main dining area nicely. The lighting sets a nice atmosphere. We started with the spicy tuna cones '01. They came in individual cones which were unique and tasty. The Potato Chip Chicken Milanese had great flavor and the Crab A'l Amatriciana was really unique. It reminded me of something you'd find in New Orleans with the great flavor. The service was great. I would say our experience was a 4.5 over a 4 as I am giving our waiter a benefit of the doubt for being so inattentive, out of it, and just plain not interested in serving us. We could barely hear him and he didn't make eye contact and it was just a struggle Perhaps he was having a bad day. Ambiance - the vibes are great. As the restaurant fills up, it does get quite loud, so keep that in mind. I love the large booths that they have. We used the assistance of their sommelier for a bottle suggestion and he did great. He was unlike any other sommelier I have experienced at restaurants because of his demeanor, but it was not a bad thing. He seemed more relatatble and approachable versus someone who just knows better than you and I appreciate that! Food - everything on the menu was great from the chicken meatballs, tuna cones, steaks, and salmon. I ordered the special - big eye tuna wrapped in proscuitto which sadly was the disappointment of the night. It seemed like the proscuitto was 'fried' which I am not used to or was expecting. Again, our server failed to really describe this and I should have known better. Desserts - we tried the cheesecake, blackout cake and lemon cake, all delicious! Definitely would come back. Had reservations on a Friday night at 7:30. First time going here and it was packed upon arrival. There were a lot of people waiting to be seated. I will say that we were constantly informed that we would be seated shortly and to top it off because they noticed we had been waiting for a while offered me and my husband glasses of champagne. The bar area is separate from the restaurants which is well decorated and dimly lit which I like for a good date night. I wish I could remember our waiters name because he was awesome and provided great service. I had to start with the cheese beignets. They were so good and different from anything I've had like it. For my meal I had the crab spaghetti and it was so filling. I only ate half because I had to try the cookie cheesecake. What a swanky place!! I'm already planning on when I can come back! (Reservations save wait times) The food was SO tasty and the flavors were so delicious you'll reminisce the next day and wish you had it in front of you again. I'm back! I had to come try the food. Right off the bat, I love the price points on the menu. You can get a steak (filet) with a starch for $49, which is what I opted for since they ran out of the Underhill which is a bistro steak with sharp provolone served with au jus, kinda like a French dip sandwich. Hopefully they will have it next time I'm in. My starters were the Tuna Cone and the hamachi crudo. The tuna was super salty, which is a bit concerning as it might be covering up for quality issues but the avocado kinda cut some of the salt. The crudo was good, and I was glad I got them together as they balance each other out. Now, onto the steak. BEWARE! The chef cooks a medium steak to have a warm red center, similar to some French restaurants I've been to. You may need to opt for medium-well if you're used to a less warm red center. I also got the duck fries, Brussels sprouts, and mushrooms as sides. The sides are large and served family-style for the table. Personally, I wasn't too keen on the Brussels sprouts as they were a bit too charred, making them too dry, and the duck fat fries were the worst item I had today. They tasted like frozen fries fried in duck fat. If you want really good duck fat fries, head to Manhattan Project Brewery; you won't regret it! And the mushrooms are to die for!!! The steak was fabulous! And their in-house G1 steak sauce was surprisingly very good. If you're looking to substitute the potato pavé that comes with your steak, it's a no go, just order one of dem family sides. The service I received from Rob was top-notch. It was like having a butler--whenever I thought I needed something, he was there. The service here is very similar to Papa Bros Steakhouse. I'll definitely come back! If you made it this far... for desert I had the cookie butter Sunday. You can't go wrong with a Sunday and I took 1 star off for the off putting fries and Brussels. We decided to start a new Christmas Eve tradition of going out for lunch, and it will be at Goodwin's each year. We had outstanding service from Olivia and the best meal. We've been stalking the socials and watching the windows waiting for Goodwin's to open. Last week I noticed signs of life and accidentally walked in on their server training. We didn't make it on opening day, but we were there on day two! There is a good bit of grace in this four-star rating. Every new restaurant needs a minute to work the kinks out...and I really hope Goodwin's does because we experienced some seriously significant kinks. MARTINIS We tried the signature martinis that are made in batches and stored in a refrigerator. Mine was pleasant enough, but I would rather have a shaken martini served ice cold. We could have done with a bit more explanation about what makes it special. I'm unlikely to order it again. APPETIZERS I was intrigued by the choices of starters. First we tried the Cheese Beignets, which were olive-sized, fritter-like balls with breadcrumbs on the outside, and a blend of melty gruyere and parmesan inside. I think I was expecting something more like a savory donut. These were tasty enough, but small. They were served with a cheese sauce that didn't really add anything to the experience. We also ordered the Crispy Zucchini Chips at the suggestion of our server. Unfortunately our chips weren't crispy. at. all. They came out right away, so we knew they didn't wilt in the window. Something wasn't right because they wouldn't have called what we received "CRISPY." They were drizzled with green goddess dressing that actually made the zucchini taste more like a pickle. After the first two apps, I ordered the Martini Shrimp Cocktail as my entree. This sounded so interesting, and it might have been before someone threw a fist full of salt on it. literally. It was topped with an unreasonable amount of course sea salt that made it absolutely inedible. Why are they salting a dish that has shrimp, olives and capers as the primary components? I shared this with our server and she graciously said she would let the chef know. ENTREES My table also ordered the Red Bird Half Chicken and the Gulf Red Snapper. The snapper was the star of the show...a nice sized portion that was beautifully plated. The chicken was less successful. It was prepared two ways--the breast was presented as a sliced roulade...the thigh and leg confit. The white meat portion was quite large, but the confit was overcooked to the point that there was little edible meat on either the thigh or the leg. And maybe this is just semantics, but it felt like our "half chicken" was really two quarter chickens that were clearly from different birds. The menu says the chicken comes with a chickery salad and fries, but the salad was more like a frisee garnish on the chicken. The frisee garnish on the Red Snapper was actually more substantial than the salad on the chicken. DESSERT All desserts are made in house and we ordered the chocolate crunch dessert. This was so close to being a winner, but the salted caramel cream center was TOO SALTY. Every other aspect of this dessert was decadent and delicious. Goodwin's sits on the corner of Greenville and (you guessed it) Goodwin Avenues, the 40-year home of the Blue Goose Cantina. The yellow facade has been replaced by deep green paneling and a smart sidewalk patio. A majestic tiled entryway with brass-handled door makes and impressive first impression. Inside, the restaurant seems so much larger than the Blue Goose. The interior lighting really sets a scene. The overall effect is warm and welcoming without being overly formal or stuffy. A deep bar was stacked with drinkers and diners. Spacious and comfortable booths invite you to linger. Aiming to appeal to the locals, menu items are named after neighborhood streets (East Dallas eats that stuff up!). Goodwin's is teetering on the edge of something special but careful refinements to the food and the service are needed. read more

Ive come to Goodwins a few times for business dinners, and the main reason I love coming here is the pseudo speak-easy in the back that serves the BEST pickle martini's. The food is also delicious here, prices are definitely on the higher end but still reasonable. Service here has always been impeccable - gives my NYC wait staff vibes where everyone is super engaged and lively (almost as though they are all aspiring actors sort of thing) and they were more than happy to give recommendations. We came on a Wednesday and it was so busy! Definitely recommend reservations. The food is very good, and service was even better. The hosts and our server were so friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. We were sat in the main dining room initially, it was so loud I couldn't hear my partner. We asked if we could move but they said they didn't have any other tables or there were already other reservations. After about 10 minutes, they moved us to the patio where it was much quieter. We had a 5:30pm reservation and while two of our party did not arrive until six, almost the moment we were seated, we were constantly reminded and rushed throughout our time there, with the staff citing there was another reservation at 7pm. Rudest thing ever. I even told the host upon arrival that the rest of my party was running a bit late and I was happy to wait to be seated to which he responded that he was happy to go ahead and seat us. While I appreciate prompt service and attentiveness, and it was annoying enough that our server Olivia returned to the table on on numerous occasions to ask if we were going to (not if we were ready to) order dinner, other staff would quickly clear dishes from the table, often reaching across in mid-sentence of our conversation without respect or regard. Twice we had to let them know that we weren't quite done with the plate. At 6:48pm Olivia returned to the table to inform us that the next party would not arrive until 7:30pm. Rude again and all the while the staff is briskly clearing empty glasses and somewhat empty plates. Our original plans were to order dinner, however with the constant reminder that we were only welcome until 7pm, we decided against it. It was a very frustrating experience that could have been handled with much better customer care, even considering the booth next to us arrived before our party and were still dining leisurely when we left. This was honestly one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The vibes are immaculate, the service is very good and the food is absolutely insane. To start we got the cheese beignets (you HAVE to get these), the zucchini chips and the focaccia bread. The cheese beignets melt in your mouth, and the bread is easily some of the best I've ever had. I also ordered a transfusion as my drink. This is one of my favorite drinks and you don't typically see it on a restaurant menu since it's a golf course drink! For dinner I got the Underhill. Think French dip but even better. It's super rich and is huge so would be great to split. The fries are fried in beef fat so they're amazing. I also split the Mac and cheese with my friend and it was totally worth ordering! For dessert we got the cookie butter sundae which was also incredible. Our server Kurt (Curt?) was really funny and the staff did a great job of keeping water glasses full. My only complaint is that you have to order all food at one time (apps and entrees) we had a group of six and one person wasn't there yet and we had to wait on her to arrive before we could order any food. Came here with two friends for an early dinner on a Monday night. We shared the crispy zucchini chips and the Nancy's party dip for appetizers. The hit was the party dip; it was savory and flavorful. I liked the zucchini chips as well, but mainly because I topped it off with the dip. I think the zucchini chips would have been a bit bland without the dip. For my entree, I had Goodwin's version of what looked like a cobb salad. It was good enough, but not great. I'll have to try other items on the menu before I draw any firm conclusions about the food here. And I would definitely come back to try their other items. I liked the slightly-more-than-casual vibe of the place, and our server was attentive and friendly. A word of caution though: parking is tough, even if you valet. The valet lot was crowded by the time we left, and it was tricky to maneuver out of there. I'd probably just take an uber on my next visit. read more
