What a fantastic experience celebrating my partners birthday. I made reservations for a party of 4. When we arrived we were greeted with smiles from two hostesses. Upon entering you're met with dim lights, deep burgundy leather seats and images of musicians painted in every corner. The restaurant is absolutely stunning! Our table wasn't quite ready so we were asked to wait at the bar for short while. We started the celebration early by ordering a few drinks and by the time they arrived, our table was ready. We were lead to a large half moon shaped booth nestled in the corner; which was large and plush. Plenty of room for us four and honestly at least two more people. On our table was a place card that said Happy Birthday to my partner which was a nice touch. Our waitress arrived and very pleasant and helpful. She asked if we had questions and gave us some highlights of the menu. We ordered another round along with Meatballs Troubadour, the Heavenly Sourdough and Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice. The Heavenly Sourdough and Meatballs Troubadour were absolutely the stars of the show! The meatballs were flavorful and juicy. The marinara sauce paired wonderfully with the sourdough. For entrees, Dry-Aged Delmonico, Pomme Puree, Crispy Brussels, Honey Truffle Chicken and Whole Lobster Spaghetti. All the food was divine! To wrap it all up we of course ordered the 24 layer strawberry cake. The cake was bought out with a candle and 4 glasses of bubbly which was a very nice treat. Went for a special night, reservations and everything, even arrived 10minutes earlier. We were not greeted by a server for 20-30 minutes PAST our reservation time, and to add on to that no water. We are typically pretty patient individuals, but eventually we flagged a waiter down, and from there the night flipped. I believe the server's name was Michael, great fellow and attentive. The FOH manager, Chris was phenomenal. Mistakes are inevitable in the restaurant industry so we understand. It is what is done after the fact that is a tell. They were great. Food was great and came out faster (On the fly). Now to the food and drink The cocktail martinis are great, cant go wrong with any. (We had the French 76 and Bleu&Gold) The Vin Scully Fries are great for the table Ribeye was great, cooked at correct temp. The Spicy Rigatoni (Zaza) was the favorite. Very nice restaurant with low lighting. Came in for happy hour alone but this is would definitely be perfect for a date night or celebration meal. Happy hour offerings are slim with only a couple drink and appetizer specials. The sully fries which are basically just loaded fries are amazing and a must have. This was truly the worst experience I've ever had at any restaurant in my life, let alone in Dallas. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants until I dined there this past week. We had a large party of 11 and were informed there was a $1,500 minimum spend for the table, which was completely fine. However, shortly after we were seated, my friend took one picture of herself. The manager immediately came over and told us that flash photography, pictures, and videos were no longer allowed in the restaurant and that we were not permitted to take photos. I politely asked if he could show me where this policy was listed on the website, and he could not. It's difficult to ask patrons to follow a policy that does not formally exist and is only being communicated verbally in the moment. He stated he had only been there for two months and that this was a policy he personally enforces. Throughout dinner, when food and drinks arrived, guests naturally took photos of their meals (as people commonly do). The manager then proceeded to stand over our table for most of our dinner, which lasted approximately 2 1/2 hours, watching us and creating an uncomfortable and intimidating environment. When we closed out, our total was close to $3,000. Which well above the required minimum and yet we were treated as though we were not welcome. We were made to feel uncomfortable over a policy that appeared to be created the moment we walked in the door. Unfortunately, this experience completely changed my perception of what used to be one of my favorite places in Dallas. read more

They had good music rotating with a live singer which we enjoyed. Everyone was dressed very nice. It's dress code enforced which I love. I had been wanting to try Drake's for a long time, and it definitely lived up to the hype when it comes to atmosphere and service. I absolutely loved the old Hollywood vibes of the restaurant, and the staff could not have been more attentive. The look, feel, and service were all amazing. Their dirty martini was one of the best I've ever had, perfectly dirty with ice chips, which I loved. We started with the spicy tuna crispy rice, crab claws, and the Caesar salad. I would pass on the salad, but I highly recommend both the spicy tuna crispy rice and the crab claws, great flavor on both. We also tried the lobster mac and cheese, which was phenomenal, while the creamed spinach was just okay. For pizza, we tried Ozzy's and the Hot Papi. Ozzy's was just okay, and while I preferred the Hot Papi, there are plenty of places in Dallas I'd choose for pizza over Drake's. Both were good, but I've had better. We also tried the branzino and the Parmesan snapper, which were pretty good. The steaks were good as well, though nothing to rave about and slightly overcooked. My absolute favorite dish of the night was the spicy rigatoni, and the hack is to add the honey truffle chicken on top. It's a little pricey for chicken, but absolutely worth it. The flavor combo of the crispy chicken with the Calabrian chili sauce was incredible. For dessert, we went with the silk pie and the cheesecake, both great choices. I've heard the strawberry cake can be dry, so I'd skip that. Overall, it was a great experience and the food was good. While I'm not sure everything is worth the price, if I had to recommend anything, it would definitely be the spicy tuna crispy rice and the spicy rigatoni with crispy chicken on top. read more

The restaurant itself is beautiful -- an old Hollywood theme with a classy atmosphere that definitely stands out. Although the place was a bit dark and pretty loud as people are clustered up next to each other. Not sure if its my age or not, but I had to stare hard at the menu to read it in the dark LOL! Food: Vinegar Scully Fries (8/10): My wife absolutely loved this dish, definitely the highlight of the night. Loaded curly fries with cheese, bacon, jalapeños, and chives. For me, it had a bit too much cheese, but at least it was quality cheese and not the canned nacho kind. Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice (7/10): A nice, simple appetizer. The crispy rice had a good crunch, and the tuna was fresh. The presentation was on point and helped boost the overall impression. Parmesan-Crusted Snapper (6/10): This was my wife's entrée, and she found it pretty underwhelming. The waiter had mentioned it was one of their most flavorful fish dishes, but it ended up being too lemony, even for someone who enjoys citrus with seafood. Shep's Hawaiian Ribeye (4/10): I was hesitant about ordering this one since it came with a ginger-based marinade - apparently a house favorite. I don't mind a marinade, but this was overly sweet and just didn't work for a steak. The biggest disappointment, though, was the temperature: I ordered medium rare and received a clear medium. My friend had the same issue during his visit the week before with a different dry aged ribeye. For a place that calls itself a steakhouse, properly cooking a steak should be non-negotiable. Overall: I left pretty disappointed. The atmosphere and service were nice, but the food, especially the steak fell way short of expectations. For the cost, this was probably the most underwhelming steakhouse experience I've had in DFW. Honestly, I would have preferred a perfectly cooked medium rare from Texas Roadhouse over this. Easily a must order and something I would definitely get again. Then we ordered Ozzy's Pizza, the Zaza Pasta, and the Parmesan Crusted Snapper. The main dishes took a while to come out but were well worth the wait. The snapper was delicious and light and the Zaza pasta had a great balance of creaminess and kick. The restaurant itself was pretty full, and had an amazing live singer who was covering music that fit the Old Hollywood, leather booth vibe of the restaurant. I had put that we were celebrating a birthday on the OpenTable reservation and there was nothing, so to see others get a candle and a card with their dessert was a bit disappointing but life moves on. I also have to give them props for their playlist. This was my "farewell" dinner to my single years before my wedding & call it a coincidence, alignment or just really good taste but I was surprised at how many songs they played that I had on my curated wedding playlist lol. We came to Drake's to celebrate a friend's birthday and left extremely disappointed. From the moment we were seated, our original server made us feel like he wanted us to order, eat, and leave as quickly as possible. We were told we had to place our entire order at once, and despite our reservation noting that we were celebrating a birthday, he never acknowledged it or even asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. When we mentioned it ourselves, he didn't respond at all. While returning from the restroom (which was also uncomfortably hot and stuffy), I spoke with the manager, Jason, about our experience and asked if we could switch servers. Thankfully, Vlad, who had been serving nearby tables, took over our table. He was a complete turnaround. Vlad was personable, energetic, attentive, and provided the level of hospitality we expected. He truly saved what he could of the experience. Our group spent over $750 on food and drinks. The appetizers and sides were excellent and easily the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, the entrees didn't live up to the same standard. One steak was overcooked and had to be sent back. By the time the replacement arrived, everyone else had already finished eating. The Salmon Diane was also dry and overcooked. To end the night, while we were waiting for our checks to be processed, Jason came over and told us the next reservation had arrived and that we needed to leave. We explained that we were simply waiting to pay, yet no effort was made to speed up the process by collecting our payment or offering to run the checks. It felt rushed and incredibly inhospitable, especially after everything that had already gone wrong. The only reasons this review isn't one star are Vlad and the excellent appetizers and sides. We've dined at many high-end restaurants, and this was by far one of the most disappointing service experiences we've had, especially for a special celebration. Updating my review due to the unfriendly rules and non collaborative attitudes with those managing and booking reservations. Seeing restaurants talk about the struggles to stay profitable but then making it a hassle to have a group of 8 instead of 7 yields zero sympathy. The absurdity of $120+ minimums for 8 people vs none for 7 is beyond reason and only leads us to finding another establishment for our get together. This is now the 3rd time we have been hassled and will be taking our business to another fine establishment in Dallas that value us as a customer. We are the order only water and share a salad only types, so it's not us being cheap or wasting their time. read more

I recently celebrated my boyfriend's birthday and I was really hopeful the experience would be a memorable one. The ambiance was cool, and the restaurant was kind enough to acknowledge his special day, which added a nice touch to our evening. Our waiter Joshua was also really nice! He had great suggestions from the menu, and his attentiveness made us feel well taken care of throughout the night. We kicked off the night with a few drinks... Giblets, The Mexican, and a margarita along with the Scully fries. For dinner, we had the broccolini, fillet, and Hawaiian ribeye. With the total bill nearing $400, I have to say we were so disappointed with the steaks. Both were charred to a crisp, dry and cooked to medium, when I'd actually requested medium rare. Even more unfortunate is that the replacement ribeye came out even more charred and crisp than the first. Unfortunately, by the end of the night for $400 all we could say is that we truly enjoyed the fries and broccolini. While I appreciate the effort of the staff and the overall dining experience, I had high hopes. Plus all my boyfriend wanted to do was have a good steak and enjoy the evening, so it was my hope to at least be able to do that. I felt so bad by the end of the night I offered to take him to a different steakhouse, since we didn't eat the steaks there. Pricey poisoning nightmare! What was supposed to be a fancy celebratory night out ($725 with tip) at Drake's for my MIL's birthday ended with one of our family members in the ER and another 2 attached to the toilet (including my 72 MIL). This was roughly 6 hours after consuming seafood from this establishment. The frustrating part is we actually sent one of the 2 dishes back reporting to staff it had a strange odor/taste and was told we weren't familiar with lobster taste (being from NY this is untrue). My MIL was too embarrassed to send hers back so she ate her entire plate and my husband had about 1/4 of his before exchanging it for an alternate dish. As an emergency service provider I fully understand medical incidents like this can happen anywhere, but what prompted this review was way the situation was handled following my reporting. After reporting the incident to management we were met with what felt like an aggressive line of questioning about the members of our medical team and related details. I was told the incident would be escalated to upper management and the team would reach back out, but this never happened, even after a follow-up email. So, it's safe to say after spending a significant amount of money on what was supposed to be a special evening, the entire experience left a very bad taste in our mouths. At the very least, I would have expected some sort of gesture of goodwill or attempt to make the situation right -- even something as simple as a gift card or invitation to return for a better experience. Unfortunately, that never happened. Based on this experience, I would not choose to return and cannot recommend Drake's to others. read more

I love the location in Houston, so when my friend came to visit me here in Dallas and asked where should we go to celebrate my birthday, I jumped at the opportunity to eat at Drakes. What's not to love about a classy and old school Hollywood themed restaurant? It's one of my fave places for a reason and this location didn't disappoint. I usually get the Ozzy's Pizza but forced myself to try something new this time. I had the scampi crab claws, crab cake, and Pasta Zaza with Italian sausage. All the food was great! The claws were flavorful and a great portion. The crab cake was a great size and the lemon beurre blanc was a great complement and not too lemon-ny thankfully. The Pasta Zaza was the first spicy pasta that I've gotten that was actually spicy! You can see and taste those red pepper flakes. The Italian sausage was a great addition if you were looking for some protein. It was a very creamy dish. I thought it was pretty good! Our server was kind and attentive. She was happy to walk me through the wine menu and let me try a few samples before selecting my wine for the night. I'm glad to know there's consistency in these locations.
