It says a lot about how a business is ran in how they respond to a mistake. Drake's did phenomenal in this regard. Went for a special night, reservations and everything, even arrived 10minutes earlier. We were not greeted by a server for 20-30 minutes PAST our reservation time, and to add on to that no water. We are typically pretty patient individuals, but eventually we flagged a waiter down, and from there the night flipped. I believe the server's name was Michael, great fellow and attentive. The FOH manager, Chris was phenomenal. Mistakes are inevitable in the restaurant industry so we understand. It is what is done after the fact that is a tell. They were great. Food was great and came out faster (On the fly). Now to the food and drink The cocktail martinis are great, cant go wrong with any. (We had the French 76 and Bleu&Gold) The Vin Scully Fries are great for the table Ribeye was great, cooked at correct temp. The Spicy Rigatoni (Zaza) was the favorite. The added sides were great complements but nothing stood out for us. Great FLUFFY cheesecake, I am not a fan of thick cheesecake, and this one was just right for the texture. Pricey poisoning nightmare! What was supposed to be a fancy celebratory night out ($725 with tip) at Drake's for my MIL's birthday ended with one of our family members in the ER and another 2 attached to the toilet (including my 72 MIL). This was roughly 6 hours after consuming seafood from this establishment. The frustrating part is we actually sent one of the 2 dishes back reporting to staff it had a strange odor/taste and was told we weren't familiar with lobster taste (being from NY this is untrue). My MIL was too embarrassed to send hers back so she ate her entire plate and my husband had about 1/4 of his before exchanging it for an alternate dish. As an emergency service provider I fully understand medical incidents like this can happen anywhere, but what prompted this review was way the situation was handled following my reporting. After reporting the incident to management we were met with what felt like an aggressive line of questioning about the members of our medical team and related details. I was told the incident would be escalated to upper management and the team would reach back out, but this never happened, even after a follow-up email. So, it's safe to say after spending a significant amount of money on what was supposed to be a special evening, the entire experience left a very bad taste in our mouths. At the very least, I would have expected some sort of gesture of goodwill or attempt to make the situation right -- even something as simple as a gift card or invitation to return for a better experience. Unfortunately, that never happened. Based on this experience, I would not choose to return and cannot recommend Drake's to others. read more

Went to Drakes for a birthday dinner for the first time. Definitely enjoy it. The server was very attentive and recommended us some great options in the menu. We stared with some Dynamite Cauliflower and Curly Fries and they were very good. For entrees we ended up ordering pizza, chicken parmigiana, honey chicken. The food was all great. This was truly the worst experience I've ever had at any restaurant in my life, let alone in Dallas. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants until I dined there this past week. We had a large party of 11 and were informed there was a $1,500 minimum spend for the table, which was completely fine. However, shortly after we were seated, my friend took one picture of herself. The manager immediately came over and told us that flash photography, pictures, and videos were no longer allowed in the restaurant and that we were not permitted to take photos. I politely asked if he could show me where this policy was listed on the website, and he could not. It's difficult to ask patrons to follow a policy that does not formally exist and is only being communicated verbally in the moment. He stated he had only been there for two months and that this was a policy he personally enforces. Throughout dinner, when food and drinks arrived, guests naturally took photos of their meals (as people commonly do). The manager then proceeded to stand over our table for most of our dinner, which lasted approximately 2 1/2 hours, watching us and creating an uncomfortable and intimidating environment. When we closed out, our total was close to $3,000. Which well above the required minimum and yet we were treated as though we were not welcome. We were made to feel uncomfortable over a policy that appeared to be created the moment we walked in the door. Seeing restaurants talk about the struggles to stay profitable but then making it a hassle to have a group of 8 instead of 7 yields zero sympathy. The absurdity of $120+ minimums for 8 people vs none for 7 is beyond reason and only leads us to finding another establishment for our get together. This is now the 3rd time we have been hassled and will be taking our business to another fine establishment in Dallas that value us as a customer. Went to Drake's for a birthday recently and had a great experience. Started the meal with the Vin Scully fries which were maybe the best fries I've ever had. Easily a must order and something I would definitely get again. Then we ordered Ozzy's Pizza, the Zaza Pasta, and the Parmesan Crusted Snapper. The main dishes took a while to come out but were well worth the wait. The snapper was delicious and light and the Zaza pasta had a great balance of creaminess and kick. The restaurant itself was pretty full, and had an amazing live singer who was covering music that fit the Old Hollywood, leather booth vibe of the restaurant. I had put that we were celebrating a birthday on the OpenTable reservation and there was nothing, so to see others get a candle and a card with their dessert was a bit disappointing but life moves on. Restaurants these days seem to focus more on the vibe than the actual quality of the food, and this place was no exception. The restaurant itself is beautiful -- an old Hollywood theme with a classy atmosphere that definitely stands out. However, when it comes to the food (especially for a steakhouse), the quality just didn't justify the price. Although the place was a bit dark and pretty loud as people are clustered up next to each other. Not sure if its my age or not, but I had to stare hard at the menu to read it in the dark LOL! Food: Vinegar Scully Fries (8/10): My wife absolutely loved this dish, definitely the highlight of the night. Loaded curly fries with cheese, bacon, jalapeños, and chives. For me, it had a bit too much cheese, but at least it was quality cheese and not the canned nacho kind. Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice (7/10): A nice, simple appetizer. The crispy rice had a good crunch, and the tuna was fresh. The presentation was on point and helped boost the overall impression. Parmesan-Crusted Snapper (6/10): This was my wife's entrée, and she found it pretty underwhelming. The waiter had mentioned it was one of their most flavorful fish dishes, but it ended up being too lemony, even for someone who enjoys citrus with seafood. Shep's Hawaiian Ribeye (4/10): I was hesitant about ordering this one since it came with a ginger-based marinade - apparently a house favorite. I don't mind a marinade, but this was overly sweet and just didn't work for a steak. The biggest disappointment, though, was the temperature: I ordered medium rare and received a clear medium. My friend had the same issue during his visit the week before with a different dry aged ribeye. For a place that calls itself a steakhouse, properly cooking a steak should be non-negotiable. Overall: I left pretty disappointed. The atmosphere and service were nice, but the food, especially the steak fell way short of expectations. For the cost, this was probably the most underwhelming steakhouse experience I've had in DFW. Honestly, I would have preferred a perfectly cooked medium rare from Texas Roadhouse over this. Drake's Hollywood knows a thing or two about ambiance. It has an old money vibe to it when you walk inside. If you're into dark, moody spaces then you'll feel right at home here. I also have to give them props for their playlist. This was my "farewell" dinner to my single years before my wedding & call it a coincidence, alignment or just really good taste but I was surprised at how many songs they played that I had on my curated wedding playlist lol. I had been wanting to try Drake's for a long time, and it definitely lived up to the hype when it comes to atmosphere and service. I absolutely loved the old Hollywood vibes of the restaurant, and the staff could not have been more attentive. The look, feel, and service were all amazing. Their dirty martini was one of the best I've ever had, perfectly dirty with ice chips, which I loved. We started with the spicy tuna crispy rice, crab claws, and the Caesar salad. I would pass on the salad, but I highly recommend both the spicy tuna crispy rice and the crab claws, great flavor on both. We also tried the lobster mac and cheese, which was phenomenal, while the creamed spinach was just okay. For pizza, we tried Ozzy's and the Hot Papi. Ozzy's was just okay, and while I preferred the Hot Papi, there are plenty of places in Dallas I'd choose for pizza over Drake's. Both were good, but I've had better. We also tried the branzino and the Parmesan snapper, which were pretty good. The steaks were good as well, though nothing to rave about and slightly overcooked. My absolute favorite dish of the night was the spicy rigatoni, and the hack is to add the honey truffle chicken on top. It's a little pricey for chicken, but absolutely worth it. The flavor combo of the crispy chicken with the Calabrian chili sauce was incredible. For dessert, we went with the silk pie and the cheesecake, both great choices. I've heard the strawberry cake can be dry, so I'd skip that. Overall, it was a great experience and the food was good. While I'm not sure everything is worth the price, if I had to recommend anything, it would definitely be the spicy tuna crispy rice and the spicy rigatoni with crispy chicken on top. read more

I recently celebrated my boyfriend's birthday and I was really hopeful the experience would be a memorable one. The ambiance was cool, and the restaurant was kind enough to acknowledge his special day, which added a nice touch to our evening. Our waiter Joshua was also really nice! Giblets, The Mexican, and a margarita along with the Scully fries. For dinner, we had the broccolini, fillet, and Hawaiian ribeye. With the total bill nearing $400, I have to say we were so disappointed with the steaks. Both were charred to a crisp, dry and cooked to medium, when I'd actually requested medium rare. Even more unfortunate is that the replacement ribeye came out even more charred and crisp than the first. Unfortunately, by the end of the night for $400 all we could say is that we truly enjoyed the fries and broccolini. While I appreciate the effort of the staff and the overall dining experience, I had high hopes. Plus all my boyfriend wanted to do was have a good steak and enjoy the evening, so it was my hope to at least be able to do that. I felt so bad by the end of the night I offered to take him to a different steakhouse, since we didn't eat the steaks there. Overall, while I know it would be costly to change out the menus to advise the steaks are charred, it really would be great if the restaurant would advise upfront so that we had a choice. read more

I love the location in Houston, so when my friend came to visit me here in Dallas and asked where should we go to celebrate my birthday, I jumped at the opportunity to eat at Drakes. What's not to love about a classy and old school Hollywood themed restaurant? It's one of my fave places for a reason and this location didn't disappoint. I usually get the Ozzy's Pizza but forced myself to try something new this time. I had the scampi crab claws, crab cake, and Pasta Zaza with Italian sausage. All the food was great! The claws were flavorful and a great portion. The crab cake was a great size and the lemon beurre blanc was a great complement and not too lemon-ny thankfully. The Pasta Zaza was the first spicy pasta that I've gotten that was actually spicy! You can see and taste those red pepper flakes. The Italian sausage was a great addition if you were looking for some protein. It was a very creamy dish. I thought it was pretty good! Our server was kind and attentive. She was happy to walk me through the wine menu and let me try a few samples before selecting my wine for the night. I'm glad to know there's consistency in these locations. I stopped by while in the area for a work training. I didn't have a reservation so I gladly sat at the bar. I ordered the crab claw scampi and it was easily one of the best appetizers I've eaten in a very long time. 10/10 The truffle chicken was a 6/10 and not something I'd order again (I only ate a few bites) and next time I'll avoid chicken dishes. I'd been begging my husband to take me to Drake's since Valentine's Day 2025. This year we decided to celebrate Valentine's early and went to Drakes on 1/31, even though my husband made the reservation weeks in advanced we could only get in at 9:00 pm. I was so excited when we arrived the ambience is everything, it's like you are entering a hidden speakeasy in 1920's Hollywood. You enter a completely dark waiting area, and then when your table is ready, they throw open the doors to the ultimate 1920's glam Hollywood Bar. The entire restaurant is centered around the bar, and even at 9:00 pm the place was packed. My husband and I were seated at a cozy booth next to the bar and we had so much fun watching the bartenders in their bow ties making the drinks, it felt like we were at Rick's Cafe in Casablanca. I noticed that other customers were dressed as flappers and some even had fur coats. I will say that I did feel like me and my husband were the oldest customers in the place, I'm 45 and he is 44. Drake's is definitely a trendy place, that is my only negative is that the music they played was modern music, and even though the TV's in the bar were in black and white, they were playing basketball, which really didn't go with the overall theme. The food was very good. We had the spicy tuna for an appetizer, we split the dry-aged Delmonico Ribeye with a side of lobster mac and cheese for dinner, and we ended with the 24 layer cake. Overall ambiance was great but from the jump we had an issue. Our party was large and reserved two booths ahead of time and we were only notified upon arrival that we would only be seated once everyone showed up, we understand some places do this but they usually give you the courtesy of telling you this when you book the reservation and not when you arrive at the restaurant. After this we found that the booths were on complete separate sides of the restaurant, although the head of the party confirmed on the booking that they understood that the restaurant may not be able to accommodate to the booths be near each other we were bothered as we noticed an entire section across the bar that would've seated the entire party sitting empty since we arrived ( AND UNTIL THE RESTAURANT CLOSED ) only to realize that the restaurant purposely did not let us sit there for who knows what reason just because they could. Our server was nice; only one thing that didn't sit right with me but I'll get to that later. I personally ordered the honey truffle chicken and did read a review stating the sizing of the chicken has been getting smaller yet the prices getting higher but I still wanted to try it and I will say that YeS the chicken was SMALL the price I paid and although flavor good the food was immediately cold when I started eating but I didn't want to make a scene and send my food back so I just let it be and ate my plate cold. I had also asked my server if i could have anything on the side like a bread for my cream of spinach and she said they had bread and butter and I asked at what charge to which she said $18 I was surprised bread and butter at drakes was baked by the gods because why is that $18 and not simply a complimentary item??? I did not recall paying that the last I came to drakes and ordering the royal creamed spinach, i believe it came included to which she denied but I feel like I may have been lied to because what do you mean you are going to bring out creamed spinach with nothing to dip in it unless we PAY for the bread to dip in it?? Although this was two years or maybe last year so maybe things have changed and she could've been telling the truth but I was surprised and very upset at that. I did not try any of the other food pictured but I have had the Mac and cheese before and do remember it being very good , and as far as the other food goes the girls said all the plates were delicious.
