Given the fact that this is more of a cocktail bar than a club, this is highly abnormal. That being said, it's easily one of the most pretentious places for nightlife in Dallas. On August 8, 2026, at approximately 9:30-10:00 p.m., my friends and I had drinks at Monkey Bar and decided to visit the lounge next door afterward. We waited in line like everyone else, remained polite, and followed all instructions given to us. After waiting at the entrance for approximately 15-20 minutes, we respectfully asked the employee working the rope how much longer the wait might be. He explained that a few people needed to leave before anyone else could be admitted, so we thanked him and continued waiting. While we waited, we watched numerous people approach the entrance, greet the employee by saying things like "Hey bro," exchange handshakes, and immediately be allowed inside. At least 15 people were admitted ahead of us after we had already been told to wait. From what we observed, these individuals were not being admitted because they had reserved tables--they were simply allowed to enter. When I asked again why we were still waiting, the employee changed his explanation and stated that we could not be admitted because of the dress code. This was confusing because we had just watched multiple guests enter wearing clothing that appeared to violate the same dress code. When I politely pointed out this inconsistency, he ignored my question. He then gave a completely different reason, telling me that we were being denied entry because of a review I had left over a year ago. I explained that customer reviews--whether positive or negative--are a normal part of operating a business and that my review was an honest account of my experience. It contained no false information or fabricated events. I also pointed out that the establishment has many reviews, so a review from over a year ago should not determine whether a paying customer is allowed to enter. The employee then stated, "You didn't say kind words about me in your review." At that point, it became clear that this decision was personal rather than based on any legitimate policy. As the conversation continued, the employee became increasingly aggressive toward my friends and me. We remained calm and respectful throughout the interaction. We are professionals with established careers and had no intention of creating a disturbance or behaving disrespectfully. The employee then threatened to call the police. I responded that he was welcome to do so because we had done absolutely nothing wrong and were happy to explain the situation. When the officers arrived, both sides were able to explain what had happened. After speaking with everyone, one of the officers informed us that we had done nothing wrong and apologized for the inconvenience and embarrassment we had experienced. Afterward, I asked if I could speak with a manager regarding the situation. The employee refused my request, stating that he was the "door guy" and that he was not going to get a manager because it was his responsibility to handle the situation and he no longer wished to engage with us. This entire experience was humiliating, unprofessional, and extremely disappointing. I was visiting town for work, as I no longer live in the area, and this was not the type of treatment I expected from an establishment where I have previously spent money and have never caused any problems. I am requesting that upper management or the owner contact me directly regarding this incident. Denying entry based on a personal disagreement over an honest customer review, while providing inconsistent explanations and refusing access to management, is unacceptable customer service. I hope this matter will be investigated so that future guests are treated fairly, respectfully, and consistently. read more

I originally left a review about this establishment approximately one year ago after a very upsetting experience. I arrived with two of my Black friends, and a particular security guard at the door refused to let us in. He made us wait and claimed the venue was full, yet he continued allowing other people inside. My white husband, who arrived separately from Monkey Bar, was allowed in immediately. When I asked why we were not being admitted, the security guard said it was because there was a wait. That explanation did not make sense when my husband and several others were allowed inside without waiting. Management later contacted me, apologized, and provided a gift card while assuring me that my next experience would be different. I finally returned on Saturday, August 8, 2026. However, the same security guard recognized me and said, "Well, I guess you don't think we're racist now. I saw your review." When I asked how long the wait would be, he told me, "I suggest you go somewhere else," because he believed I had lied in my original review. Nothing I said in that review was a lie--every incident I described actually happened. I should not have been mocked or accused of being dishonest simply for sharing my truthful experience. This was my second negative encounter with the same security guard, one year after my original complaint. His comments were rude, confrontational, and completely unprofessional. It is clear that my concerns were not taken seriously. It is unacceptable to invite a guest back with the promise of better service, only for an employee to mock her concerns, accuse her of lying, and suggest that she leave. We stumbled in without a reservation on a Friday. We thought we scored a high top table in a quiet corner of the lounge only to find ourselves neglected for most of the evening. One person in our party asked the waitress for a drink recommendation only to be brought out a totally different drink that did not live up to the hype. We ordered several appetizers and a few sushi rolls. We contemplated dessert at one point but were convinced otherwise when one roll never made it to our table & it took several minutes after we were done with our meal for our waitress to check in with us again. We ultimately decided to just ask for our check and to our surprise, some of the things we ordered were never noted on the bill-- great, but what a bummer of an experience for our first time. Whatever food made it out to our table was good and it came out in a timely fashion. Ambiance seemed to have more of a "clubish" feel with a DJ set up in a corner and the scene becoming more lively as the night went on. I've read a lot of other reviews for this business that have confirmed my doubts. It seems like Lounge 31 has potential to return to what it once was. Perhaps giving it another chance in the future may bring promising new perspective. read more

Visiting from out of town & this is definitely a skip. I was on the line with a friend & the middle Eastern looking guy at the rope with the muffin top & neck tats turned a group of Indian guys away. He basically told them he wasn't letting them in with no reason. They weren't dressed out of order or anything. Then it's our turn to enter. No acknowledgement whatsoever. And while that might sound like a joke, our recent experience proves it's now the entire business model. Let me be clear: I wouldn't recommend Lounge 31 to anyone -- not a friend, not a stranger, not even someone I dislike. It's not just the decline in quality; it's the open disdain for genuine, paying customers. My fiancée and I arrived early in the evening when the place was noticeably slow. Roughly 80% of the tables sat empty -- most with reserved signs, despite a lack of actual guests. When we asked about the wait time, we were told 45 minutes. That was frustrating, but we stayed optimistic and moved to the bar. The only bright spot? The bartenders -- incredibly attentive and professional, a dying breed in a place now overrun by bottle service posturing and bad attitudes. After enjoying our drinks, we noticed a nearby table that had been sitting empty for several minutes -- no drinks, no reserved sign, no indication of activity. We sat down, and after about five minutes, a waitress approached us and said the table was reserved and that we'd need to speak to a manager if we wanted to sit there. Her excuse? "We didn't get a chance to put a reserved sign on it yet." That's your system? Tables without signage, left empty, are still off-limits -- based on what, exactly? Meanwhile, another group -- two couples -- had seated themselves at a similarly unmarked, empty table and were left alone. Smug, dismissive, and dripping with condescension, he acted less like a hospitality professional and more like a bouncer with a superiority complex. I calmly explained the situation, only for him to interrupt and say, "Do you know that for a fact?" Yes, Issac -- I saw it with my own eyes. He then smugly added, "I'm the guy who gets you the table. You want a table? You come to me. I decide." We left immediately after that encounter. The table we had briefly occupied? Still empty. The couples we pointed out? Still seated. Nothing changed -- except our willingness to ever give this place another dollar. Lounge 31 no longer values fairness, hospitality, or actual paying guests. They chase clout and cater to a shallow crowd, and their management leads with ego instead of service. To the owners: if you're reading this -- and you should be -- you've lost control of your brand. And to Issac and team: when arrogance replaces hospitality, the downfall is only a matter of time. There are too many outstanding venues in Dallas that actually respect their guests. When a table eventually opened up, our server kindly moved us inside. The manager then came over and told us we "can't just move ourselves," even after we explained that our server seated us. I'm incredibly disappointed with how me and my friends (three Black women) were treated at Lance 31. We arrived and were told there would be a 20-minute wait because the place was full. Fair enough -- we waited patiently. But as we stood there, we saw tons of people leaving the bar. Then people who arrived after us started being let in. When I asked the security what was going on, he told me those people had reservations. That didn't sit right with me, but we continued to wait. About 40 minutes later, I asked again, and the story changed , now he said they were "only taking reservations." That might've made sense, if we hadn't seen multiple people walk up and get in without ever mentioning a reservation. To be sure, my (white) husband and his three friends who were at monkey bar at first having guy time decided to test the situation. They walked up, asked for a table no reservation and were immediately let inside. No questions. No delay. That confirmed what I was already feeling: we were being racially profiled and treated unfairly. This experience was not just disappointing, it was hurtful and completely unacceptable. I'm sharing this so others are aware, and I hope the management at Lounge 31 takes a serious look at the behavior of their staff. Went to Lounge 31 with a group of ladies for the first time yesterday for drinks after a late brunch. We walked upstairs and saw it was busy -- looked like a great vibe until we had an interaction with the manager, whose name is Sara. Honestly it felt more like Rikers Island than a lounge on a chill Sunday. She repeatedly shouted "Get up, get up!" after a couple of us sat at a reserved table. Yes, we understood it was reserved -- but the place was packed, and there was literally nowhere else to stand while we waited for our drinks. Her attitude was unnecessarily nasty, and shouting at grown women like that is completely unacceptable. We eventually found a spot on the other side where we could enjoy ourselves. The bartender and rest of the staff were much nicer, thankfully. But we definitely won't be back. There are plenty of other places to enjoy and spend money at -- and we love doing that, just not at places that make women feel disrespected. If the space is that crowded, maybe don't let more people upstairs. We would've been totally fine being told it was at capacity -- much better than being yelled at by a subpar manager. read more

Definitely recommend the J.R. roll - this is my favorite- and you must try the espresso martinis here. Their espresso martinis truly are the best I have ever had and I often go to lounge 31 just for their version of this drink! I rate the food 9.4/10. Service: It gets pretty busy in there but waitresses are usually attentive. I rate the service 9.2/10. Lounge 31 is a fun place to go with friends. After being greeted and served water, we asked to order drinks -- nothing wild, just wine. That's when it took a turn. The server abruptly told us only ONE of us could order and the rest would not be served because, according to them, we had "too much to drink already." Huh? We were stunned. We had a single drink with dinner. That's it. When we asked what made them assume otherwise, we were told -- with full condescension -- that we were "laughing too loud" and they were "experienced enough" to know when someone has had too much. Are you serious? Laughing = intoxicated? That's a reach -- and a terrible way to treat paying guests. We weren't disruptive. We weren't slurring. We weren't stumbling in off the street. We were a group of out-of-town professionals trying to end our evening on a high note, and instead, we were judged, dismissed, and embarrassed for... enjoying ourselves? The staff was rude, unprofessional, and clearly uninterested in hospitality. We were trying to go to Monkey Bar and my friends were very rudely attacked by some bouncer that was outside of the elevator assuming we were going to Lounge 31. He assumed we were somehow going to the packed Lounge 31 (which, no thank you) and verbally attacked us for "not listening" and for not knowing where we were going. This is a cute restaurant in the Highland Park village. Parking can get a bit tight in the evenings/ weekends but you can valet. The lounge is 21+ I beleive because you have to show your ID to get in but it is such a cute restaurant/bar. They do have a DJ come out around 9pm on the weekends and a lot of young professionals come here. My friend ordered us calamari and 3 sushi rolls which was perfect for us. The calamari was overcooked and flavorless which was such a bummer. We didn't eat all of it but the california and the other rolls we got were fresh and delicious. Our waitress looked so uncomfortable I felt really sad for her. Not sure what was going on there but overall I had a great time and the food was delicious. The atmosphere and service was excellent and fit in with what one would expect at a Highland Park Village establishment.
