Wan Kim built Smoothie King into a global franchise with over a thousand locations. He then looked at that accomplishment, apparently decided it was insufficient, and opened Nuri Steakhouse on Cedar Springs, which is one of the more dramatic pivots in Dallas restaurant history and which cost somewhere in the neighborhood of twenty million dollars and has wallpaper that alone cost over a hundred thousand dollars. I want you to hold that information while I tell you that his next move after the twenty million dollar steakhouse was to open a fast casual chicken tender spot on Greenville Avenue in a shopping center next to where Blaze Pizza used to be. I respect this man at a molecular level. Flock & Fresh opened May 2nd at 5500 Greenville in the Old Town Shopping Center and the menu was created by chef Minji Kim, whose previous restaurant earned Michelin recognition, which is a sentence I did not expect to be writing about a place where you order at a counter and the chicken comes in a little basket. The chicken is never frozen, always fresh, cage-free, raised without hormones or antibiotics, brined for twenty four hours before it ever sees a fryer or a grill. Twenty four hours. For a fast casual tender. I have cooked full holiday dinners with less preparation time than this chicken. You get it crispy or grilled. You put it on a plate, in a sandwich, or on a salad. You choose a sauce from a lineup that includes curry ranch, Cajun sauce, K-sauce, and something called Flock Sauce, which is a name that tells you nothing and somehow tells you everything, because you are going to order it immediately and then you are going to understand. I ordered the Triple Flock, which is three tenders with house-made chips and kale salad, and I stood at the pickup shelf and ate one of the tenders before I even got to my table, which is behavior I am not proud of and would do again without hesitation. The crispy is the correct order if you are new here. The brine does something to the interior that you will not fully understand until you are experiencing it, which is a juicy situation that has no business existing inside a fast casual context. The outside is what you want a fried thing's outside to be. The Flock Sauce is not something I will describe because some things should be discovered without context and this is one of them. I finished the tenders. I ate the kale salad. I ate the house chips. I considered ordering again and made a decision based on personal dignity that I stand by conditionally. The room is warm tones and curved walls and greenery and a banquette canopy that was apparently inspired by a modern chicken coop, which is a design decision I respect as a concept and appreciate in execution because it is specific and committed and does not apologize for itself. The forty-eight seat patio opens the whole thing up and on a good evening it is the kind of spot where you sit down intending to eat quickly and then look up forty minutes later because the food was good and the patio was comfortable and nobody was rushing you, which for eleven dollars of chicken tenders is a value proposition that I cannot argue with. Tried flock and fresh for dinner tonight and was pleasantly surprised. We were the only customers there but service was friendly and fast. Honestly really good. Chicken is fresh and crispy, you can tell they use high quality meat. Chips and sauce were really good too. Will definitely be back. read more

First of all, I'm not the one to be leaving reviews but this place earned it. I ordered the triple flock grilled, they were way too small and the chips were to burnt and greasy af! We took part in an early opening event and were able to order a full meal for free as the staff were training. We ordered fried chicken sandwiches, with house chips, and lemonade. Curiously, they have no fries on the menu, but the chips were tasty as was the chicken sandwich. The staff were very friendly, and the entire restaurant was clean and brand new. The chicken sandwich is crispy and really good. But the only side option are house made chips which were mid at best. For $12, a good fry or tot option is a must especially when a drink is another $3 or more. Feels like ownership went for chips to boost margin but ultimately think it will be the downfall. Checked this place out as I had seen tons of press about the opening nearby really like the concept that everything can either be grilled or fried for tenders and sandwich got the fried tenders and they were great though on the smaller side comparing to other chicken fast food options. I love the concept branding and design, though I wish they had a drive-through. While I had a pleasant experience the lack of fries and giving chips instead seems like a major miss and honestly won't be returning because of that issue. I'd recommend to ownership to pivot with a traditional fry and then offer a Housemade sweet potato chip if someone's looking for something different and maybe healthier. read more

Went there today after lunch. Only customer. cashier was friendly and was allowed to try more than one sauce. Kale was solid, tenders disappointing in size and freshness, and chips ok. Talked to ? Manger and another woman about the concern that no one asked me about my experience. Food came out too quickly to be freshly cooked.
