Had the skirt steak with chimichurri, smashed potatoes and roasted carrots at Zest Cafe. I ordered medium rare but the steak came out slightly overcooked, which was disappointing. The smashed potatoes were pretty underseasoned and needed more flavor, and the carrots were practically candied like yams - not necessarily a bad thing, but they were way too sweet for my taste. The service was great throughout the meal, and the food wasn't bad overall, it just could've used a little more...something. Quality of food. As a Peruvian native, I grew up eating delicious fresh food. Zest was a wonderful surprise. The recipes are delicious and perfectly seasoned in flavor and amount of dressing in the salads we ordered. The menu has a good variety of food to satisfy family members of different ages. The service was impeccable. The restaurant has a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, a place you can take young kids and not have to worry. Waited 20 min for them to take my order -- not particularly busy. Seemed to really want me to go to the coffee side. The music in the background is very techno-ey and modern and doesn't really seem to match the ambiance of the restaurant. It's gets a bit monotonous and annoying after awhile. It was turned up a bit louder than I would have preferred. The roses at the tables are real and have a slight scent to them. The waitress brought me water, but didn't ask me about water and it had ice in it and I don't like ice. The service..... wasn't that great. One person sat me at the table, one person took my order, another person brought my food, and it was hard to tell if only one or two people were taking orders for the whole dining room. They also have a person for cleaning the tables but the person who came to clean the table did so with a dry microfiber cloth, which is against health code regulations. I was wondering how dry it was but when he stick the cloth into his apron after he wiped down the table..... I knew. As far as the time it took me to get my food, I was sat at 10:30 am, rec The wrap was delicious. The portion size is a good amount and the egg whites were refreshing, fluffy, and properly seasoned. The wrap had alvocado spread on the very outer part of it and also aioli sauce in the middle, which added great flavor, and then it also has green cherry tomatoes and refused red tomatoes in it. The cheese inside wasn't overpowering and was a good marriage for the wrap and was stretchy and a good textural experience. The wrap was grilled and the only negative mark I have about the wrap is that it wasn't wrapped well and the sauce was dripping out of the wrap out onto my plate and getting the other side of my wrap soggy before I even got a change to eat it. It also got on my hands and I had to be careful with it and eat it directly over the plate. I really wanted to enjoy my experience and maybe I will come again.... But it just wasn't what I was hoping for in the end. read more

The food is good. Had lunch and dinner here. Dinner was flat iron steak with chimmichuri. It was flavorful and well prepared. Wife had salmon which she also loved. She is picky about her fish so that says something. Only meal that fell a little flat was the spaghetti and meatballs. My son ate the meatballs but didn't prefer the sauce. Of course, he is picky like his mother. Service was weird and my only knock on the place. We were there on a Wednesday night with few other customers. We told her it was our first visit and she had little response. She did hand us an extensive coffee and drink list but neglected to make any mention of available wine. My wife would have loved to have a glass as it had been a long day for her. Getting refills on water was a challenge and getting her to return when we were done was also a task. Strange because ther were only three other tables occupied when we were there. The cell phone appeared to be a distraction. We learned, while we were tabbing out, that Wednesday nights has a wine special. Something we'd not been told before ordering. So, she miss a chance to increase the tab. All said, we'd go back. Cute little place in the highland park area for breakfast or lunch. Got the egg and cheese sandwich with bacon added. Its not specifically listed as a sandwich on the menu, but the last item is a brioche bun. While its simple, it was a damn good breakfast sandwich. The egg is a pocket of condensed steam, so you may want to give it a few minutes before scarfing it down. I tried some of my girlfriends challah French Toast. It was pretty good! The maple syrup they give you is the watery crap and not the real stuff. They do make their own whipped cream and that was pretty good. I like they added berries around the plate. read more

Awwwwwww I found my happy plate! This adorable little café just opened in the SMU area . We popped in for a quick breakfast. The service was so amazing and so quick , we had the avocado toast on harvest bread with a perfectly poached, egg and seasoning. Delish! Normally, when you get a cup of fresh fruit as the side, you look at it and say no thanks however, the fruit was so fresh and firm and delicious. This restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a Bar. it's very dog, friendly kid, friendly people, friendly ... and they are very smile friendly... To start, the ambiance is nice. The food is ok. Some of the spicing, like the hash browns, and some other items, is a little different, not sure I like it. Service is slow. Waited 15 min for water! No refills offered and when we asked a different waitress for a refill, because ours was not around, she had a very bad attitude. I would have fired her for treating a customer like that. I heard this restaurant is normally known for their breakfast and lunch, but my husband and I went for dinner and were amazed! We ordered the Deviled Horseback Toast for an appetizer (so delicious!) and the Herb Marinated Chicken and Miso Glazed Salmon for our entrees. I recommend trying both, but it didn't look like you could go wrong with anything on their menu. Our waitress, Petra, was very attentive and helpful when it came to the menu. 5/5 stars. We celebrated a friend's birthday and turns out this is the place for birthday celebrations as there was another party going on across from us. Zest Cafe is a super cute corner cafe, that is open, bright and lively. The staff was very nice and were well equipped to manage a full restaurant. They were very accommodating as our large party consisted of gifts, a cake and booster seats. We snacked on a sampler platter of almond croissants, kouign-amann, and apple cinnamon muffins. The croissant was a little dry, but the muffin and the kouign-amann were moist and delicious. We also shared plates of the edamame hummus and deviled eggs that were both really good. I thoroughly enjoyed the lavender st. Germain spritz and the togarashi tuna and ancient grain salad. read more

I don't usually leave reviews from an employee perspective, but I feel it's important to share my experience. I was in training when another employee called out, and I was asked to stay longer than my scheduled training shift. I did so willingly and worked hard to help cover the floor. A customer even asked to speak to a manager to give me positive feedback on my service. At the end of the shift, I was unexpectedly let go and told that while my work ethic was excellent, my "attitude" was an issue--based on hearsay from other staff rather than anything directly addressed with me. This was especially disappointing given that I showed up and stayed during a snowstorm, when road conditions were dangerous. I left feeling confused and used, as my help was clearly needed that day, yet I was not given clear communication or a fair opportunity to address concerns. I hope management considers clearer communication and more transparency with future employees. read more

Loved the pastel colors here and how simple and clean this place is! For our caffeine, I had the cappuccino (pretty good). My partner loved his cortado so much he ordered it multiple times! For food, I had their BLT stack. Soooo delicious and fresh. I love pesto so much so this sandwich was perfect for me. Hash browns were really thin but I still enjoyed it. They were nice, but after getting the lowdown, I don't blame them for acting the way they did - if I had to wait on Stepford wives who all wore the same babydoll dress day in and day out, I would dread coming to work. Staff: The entire staff is wonderful, warm and professional. From the moment you walk through the door you are greeted by a darling hostess, the wait staff is incredibly attentive and the owner is so lovely, he makes a point to check in with all of his customers. THE FOOD: We were visiting from the Northeast, our food standards are HIGH. This restaurant met and exceeded all of our highest expectations. We visited for breakfast and lunch. I ordered the Pepita crunch greek yogurt bowl both times. My 10 year old daughter remarked that the peppered bacon is "out of bounds good". I sampled her French Toast and my mother's avocado toast (the lemon zest sets this avocado toast apart) , both were absolutely delicious. Portions are generous, the food is light but filling, each meal came with an equally flavorful side. The coffee was strong and the Paloma perfect. To say I am impress is an understatement. Love this new place!!! It's becoming my go-to place for a business breakfast, to impress out-of-town guests, or just a weekend brunch. They have fantastic food - healthy and full of flavor. They also have great coffee, both drip and espresso. Make sure to check out the back of the restaurant, they have take out options and a small outdoor patio (dogs and kids welcome). It's like an elevated Flower Child. They also have a small bar with craft cocktails. It's the kind of place you can go in your Sunday best for a sit down, or carry out a healthy breakfast in your yoga pants! Personal favorites are the omelette and the avocado & sprouts wrap. My husband gets the chicken salad sandwich and raves that it's the best lunch in Dallas. P.S. the gluten free bread doesn't taste gluten free, it's SO good. Sooo glad I found this place! I was attracted by the tuna salad but there are so many amazing menu items that it makes it hard to choose! I went with the Tzatziki Chicken Wrap and was very impressed. I got pasta salad on the side that was delicious and not overly seasoned. I appreciate health conscious restaurants like Zest that maintain flavor without too much sodium! Atmosphere is perfect for studying or hanging out with family/friends. Shane was a very attentive server, you won't feel rushed by the staff but they are very quick to meet your needs! Food is very good - although a little overpriced for a casual lunch spot. I have loved both breakfast and lunch (breakfast wrap and turkey sandwich) here. My complaint is that I've had poor service both times I've been here. We ate breakfast at Zest on August 26, 2023. Food was better than I expected. Really tasty breakfast sandwich and sausage. Service was disappointing. The waitstaff was standing around talking to themselves but not attending to customers. I felt abandoned or ignored several times. It took more than 10 minutes to be served coffee after ordering.
