Definitely a great choice for date night! Be sure to make a reservations cause it can fill up quick and you'll be waiting a while. Service is always great. My go to orders are always the Mediterranean tuna salad and devilled eggs. Dress well because it's a classy place that you'll be sure to enjoy! Side note, I was kind of surprised how shrinkflation has affected this restaurant as the devilled eggs are now 3 pieces instead of the 5 from the last time I was here (years ago). Had a weird experience here. Came to sit at the bar which was full so I asked the hostess/worker if any tables were open. She said this row of tables were open to sit but they would not be serving food or drinks in which I said that was fine I'll order from the bar and bring to the table. AFTER I ordered from the bar and sat down she came up to me and said they changed their minds and now this table will be used for food/drinks. I said okay let me look and see if I want an app and she said no it has to be entrees. If this was there mistake they should have made an exception for us since it was their fault for telling us to sit there in the first place. read more

I had what can only be described as a humiliating experience at R&D Kitchen in Dallas. I arrived dressed in a tailored, fashionable outfit that included a sleeveless top. During my visit, a manager approached me and informed me that men are not permitted to wear tank top however she admitted that it wasn't a tank but my armpits were showing and asked whether I could change my shirt. The conversation was handled in a way that drew attention to me, causing nearby diners to turn and stare. I was embarrassed and felt singled out. What made the situation even more frustrating was the apparent inconsistency of the policy. Throughout the restaurant, numerous WOMEN were wearing tank tops, sleeveless tops, and clothing that exposed significantly more skin than my outfit. Yet I was the only person approached and asked to change. If R&D Kitchen has a dress code, it should be applied EQUALLY and consistently to everyone. Instead, the experience felt arbitrary, outdated, and discriminatory. No guest should be made to feel uncomfortable or publicly embarrassed because of their attire when similar attire is clearly being worn by others in the restaurant. Dallas has too many excellent dining options to spend my time and money somewhere that makes guests feel unwelcome. Unfortunately, after this experience, I will not be returning. read more

We had an amazing time at R+D Kitchen! The ambiance is warm yet not too formal and our service was excellent. All of the food we got was recommended by the staff and it was fantastic. I highly recommend starting with the dip duo (guacamole and pimento cheese). The fried chicken sandwich was delicious with a perfectly crispy chicken breast with nice mustard and toppings. The rainbow roll was also excellent. To top it off, we got the banana pie which was great. Tip- ask for it with hot fudge. We will for sure come back to R+D Kitchen! Horrible place! I ordered a nigiri roll and specifically asked if there were any other sauces or anything else on the rolls. The waitress told me no. there were only 6 rolls and when I ate the 3rd roll I tasted wasabi on the roll and started coughing. I could not figure out where the wasabi was coming from and checked the next roll and all around and noticed it was wasabi between the fish and rice so it was not visible. the next two rolls I took off the top- layer of rice. I told the waitress there was wasabi on it and she apologized. At that point she never offered a refund or a replacement. when the bill came she said she refunded it. I just called the manager-extremley rude said she refunded it and offered another option for food-but the waitress did not. If you are going to put pure wasabi on food and not mention it on the menu and hide it in the food that is not acceptable! the manager was very very rude! there was no mention on the. menu or from the waitress about this. won't be going back! I'm Hillstone's biggest fan, so I was excited to try R+ D. It's a quaint restaurant, with friendly staff. Overall the food was good but I would have thought they would carry over similar offerings and service as their sister restaurant. We ordered the Pine salad which was super Fresh and it paired so well with the vinaigrette and shaved almonds. For our mains we ordered the Carnitas sandwich, the meat was on the cold end, felt like a little deli style-- wasn't the best sandwich. Also I was shocked to know that the sandwiches don't come French fries, the added expensive it's almost $30 for both things. Ugh no thank you, Next! Also tried the stacked sushi, I hated that I had to wait to eat as wasabi wasn't added to the plate. I felt they missed alot of little details telling you fries aren't included, not asking for a refill on your beer, and the wasabi. Expected a little more from this place. read more

We tried this place recently for lunch as it was recommended by several people at work. Make sure to give yourself 10-15 min to circle the parking lot and find a spot and walk to the restaurant. Parking is extremely limited. We had a reservation at 12:15. We checked in at 12:12 and didn't get seated until 12:32. Not a great start, but the food was pretty good. We started with the deviled eggs and rainbow roll. Both had great flavor. My wife tried the tuna salad sandwich and I ordered the Little Mo. Both were tasty and a good portion size. We tried a side of the shrimp and grits as well, which were good. Overall, it was good, but with the parking and the wait, we don't need to hurry back. read more

Not a huge amount of seating, and definitely not a spot I'd take a large group. The biggest tables I could see looked like they'd be comfortable for 5 or 6. The hostess and waitress we saw were great, super friendly. Our waitress also had good recommendations and was helpful walking us through the menu. Their crisp martini was genuine very refreshing, especially considering the amount of booze it carries. I got the spicy tuna roll for dinner, which was definitely solid. The crisp jicama was a nice addition and the tuna was clearly fresh and good tasting. I would go for something else next time but it is a solid plate. The drinks are kind of on the pricey end at around 17/18 per cocktail, but the food is relatively reasonable with most sushi in the 17-22 dollar range. Other places were also reasonably priced. Oh and the hot fudge sundae was glorious. Maybe just go heavier on the nuts next time read more

Came to R&D Kitchen with a group of 6 and were seated at a table that clearly had enough physical space for all of us. After sitting down, the hostess informed us that only 5 people were allowed at the table -- despite there being more than enough room to comfortably fit 6. It wasn't explained in a way that made sense, and there was zero flexibility. No attempt to accommodate, no problem-solving, just a flat "no." For a restaurant that positions itself as polished and guest-focused, this felt unnecessarily rigid and unwelcoming. Restaurants are in the hospitality business. When a group is ready to dine and spend money, the response shouldn't feel like you're enforcing airline carry-on rules. It left a bad first impression before we even ordered drinks. I've been dining at this restaurant for 15 years and spent another 20 in food & service and I can confirm that there is far better elsewhere. Very disappointing to see this place go down hill. The open concept kitchen confirms violation of several health codes. Extremely unaccommodating for families or anyone that doesn't fit their "ideal" clientele. Atrocious to see a restaurant be pretentious and discriminatory. Will not allow some patrons to dine because of "dress code" and yet I've seen 100 brave women over the years dining here in head to toe athleisure. First come first serve at the bar and no help from staff which leads to patrons hovering over diners at busier hours. My husband (who is a doctor) once tried to move a barstool over one spot so I could sit down at nine months pregnant next to him and they wouldn't allow it while we waited for a table. They always rush you out of your seat and will ask you to leave if there's a wait. They'll tell harmless children to keep it down, yet I've seen adults be belligerent at the bar on countless occasions. Speaking at a volume that was far from civilized. Don't you dare bring a doona in here. $6 for 3 sad little soggy deviled eggs. I relish the days when it was 5 and they were piled high. Try any other restaurant within Preston Center and take a pass on this one. Muchachos and Il Bracco are both on this strip - far better hospitality, and dishes. read more

If the way you craft your comment or complaint does not suit this company, they will simply choose not to reply. I understand this restaurant chain is all about pleasantries; however, I will skip them. How is it that this CHAIN literally dictates customer attire, behavior and now whether or not someone uses AI, yet management ignores a serious concern with food safety? After getting sick from an undercooked French dip at Hillstone's in Houston, I was naive I was enough to eat at this location for NYE. I understood the salmon would be cooked medium. Towards the end, it was almost completely raw with lukewarm, congealed polenta and soggy broccolini with too much salt and grated cheese. Bleh. ...And the mediocre carrot cake was $15, which is obscene. Post all your prices. If I dine out, I expect the cooking to be superior to my own. Never again. read more

We had a reservation for dinner, and there were a few tables taking extra time at their tables, so we were set a little late. They apologised profusely and treated us to a free appetizer. Came late on Saturday night and we got seated even earlier than our reservation thanks to the sweet hostess. First off: drinks were amazing but strong! I liked it so much but they pack a punch so next time I need to remember to slow down haha. Food: absolutely perfect. Casual dinner but nothing lacked in flavor or presentation. The only downside was I was stuffed (even with not finishing my salad) that I couldn't get the sundae. Still so sad about that the next day and want to go back for a glass of wine and the sundae. They took our food orders and They took my tea and 15 minutes later brought me a new one. You could tell they were understaffed because a manager was taking orders. My fiancé finished her sandwich and so did I. Then the fries came out and we tried a few. They were not crisp, not hot and not good. Here is what we ordered and how I would rate: - Sashimi with kale salad (8/10) - The Newport salad w/ roasted chicken (8/10) - Thai tuna roll (9/10) - Wild mushroom meatloaf (9/10) - Osaka style pressed sushi (10/10) I'll be thinking about the pressed sushi forever! The fish was so fresh and it was topped with flaky sea salt. The meatloaf was also fantastic... don't sleep on the meatloaf bc it's cooked to perfection with amazing flavor and glaze. We got a variety of different food, including the deviled eggs (YUM), the ozuna roll ( YUM x2!), the Asian noodle salad, fried chicken sandwich, and the Thai tuna roll. Finally got a chance to try this place out for a weekend lunch! Fun fact about this restaurant: they started as a Research and Development for their sister restaurant next door but people ended up loving it that here they are! We got the Asian chicken salad and their chicken sandwich as well as a sushi roll and fries. Their sushi's are unique with healthy alternative wraps. Everything is pricey but honestly the flavor was there and their portions are decent. Fried chicken sandwich was delicious but the chicken is extremely thin. I think the tomatoes might have been thicker. Fries were delicious! The service was excellent! Very attentive to us. My only complaint is they didn't have a high chair for us. We went during lunch and there were plenty of families dining so kind of disappointed there but overall we enjoyed our time and would definitely be back whenever we are in town. read more
