"HEY someone tried to break into your house!" that's what Udi, the Quick Key Locksmith, told me as he showed me where a screwdriver had tried to pry the exterior door open. My security faded away as I looked at the pry marks around the lock and my heart sunk further to hear that the lock itself was JACKED UP. AAAaaaargh. As far as I'm concerned, Ethan walks on water. The key to my front door was turning, but the mechanism had expired in a flame of glory when I got home to a dog that had been locked inside all day and a front door that wouldn't open. I called a local locksmith who came in good time, gave the lock and door lots of jiggles, pulled out some WD40 and a few little tools, and then told me that it was impossible to open. I suggested that there must be a way. He said, in all of his years of locksmithing, he had never been stumped but this door ended his streak. His boss suggested I call the fire department to bust in my door because, with their unimpeachable ethics, they would not do damage to my door (but could send a "master" who could break in to my house "some other way"). I declined. I called Quick Key and the genius Ethan answered. I explained the door, the previous locksmith's assessment, and the unique nature of the job. After texting pics to him, he said "I'm on my way." It was not easy. It was definitely not for amateurs (or for other locksmiths, apparently). But Ethan had a bag of tricks (actually, a van full of tricks) and he did more than jiggle my door. What the other locksmith said was impossible, Ethan did with a lot of expertise and grace, all the while with my dog barking furiously at him through the glass. I wouldn't be able to write this review but for Ethan-- instead, I'd be wandering the mean streets of Lamorinda with a house that another expert told me could never be opened again. In short: Don't bother with anyone else. Call Quick Key, ask for Ethan. He is a master locksmith, fairly priced, doesn't give up, and exhibits knowledge, respect, and authority.
