Build your own bowl with spicy tuna, salmon, rice, seaweed, mango, imitation crab, crispy onion and spicy mayo.

Now that I live in Vancouver and have tried poke, I literally crave it some days. Typically, I visit a different poke place but near work there's Pokerrito. I should've tried their signature pokerito and still intend to do so however, in this instance I was feeling less adventurous and went with a build my own bowl. I was disappointed they didn't offer spicy salmon, but they did offer spicy tuna, and they give you the option to have two proteins which I appreciated. The mango was unripe which was also a bummer but glad for the option of two sauces so went with spice and mayo (just wish they had a spicy mayo). Ordered via the kiosk and service was a bit slow. While I prefer the "other place", I like the proximity to work and will try them again.

I like the poke from the Pokerrito downtown on Hornby. This was my first time at this location on W 8th. It's kind of hidden because it's a few streets down from the major Olympic Village shopping area and the building itself is kind of tucked back from the street, but the seclusion lends itself to a very relaxed atmosphere. The shop is spacious inside and very clean, and there's also a nice patio area. I would probably choose to come back to this location rather than the downtown location in the future because I just like the feel of the place. I came near closing and the shop was empty except for a few people that came in for takeout, but the staff was friendly and patient while I decided what to order. A little detail about the menu that I appreciated is that the screen for the build your own poke displays all the available toppings so that you don't have to go up the counter to see what's available. I got the torched miso glazed salmon warm bowl. It came with a sizeable cut of salmon. Everything seemed fresh and the miso sauce was just delicious. It was just under $20 which is kind of on the upper end of poke prices, but I do feel that you get good quality for your money here, and I found the bowl to be pretty satiating.

Those who know me know that I've lived here in Vancouver for over 4 years now and, in that time, I've tried many a poke place in the city. Since being introduced to this Hawaiian-oriented cuisine, I've been a BIG fan. But, yeah, I'm pretty particular about it. Like sushi, you don't want to mess with raw fish and seafood unless it's super super fresh, and the place has to be super super clean. And, for the most part, most places in Van are pretty darn good, but my favorite poke places are the Pokerrito restaurants I've ordered from. IMO they are the "gold standard", and they set the bar super high. No other poke place has really come close. So it was with high hopes that today I went to this new Pokerrito site on West 8th Avenue, a block from Home Depot, two blocks from Cambie. And thankfully I was not disappointed! As I've been prone to do the past few years, I ordered ahead on the Pokerrito app. (The app is occasionally wacky but it's worked smoothly the last two times I used it). I like having my order waiting for me when I get to the restaurant and I've never had a problem with my order at all. It's always been made right (and I have a few specific requests - and they've always made my poke bowl perfectly). Today was no different : my order was perfect. Here are my impressions of the new site: -from the street, it looks brand spanking new, with a ramp and some stairs beside it. (Yeah, it's fully accessible for wheelchairs! Nice). There appears to be two doors (a bit confusing), as one opens into the dining area and the other, into a vestibule/ante-room with some posters and lights. -the place looks and feels so new, and is immaculate, you could eat off the floors. The walls and floors are white so the place feels SO big, and there's a nice black-and-white graphic mural on the wall in the dining area. (I'll attach some photos). -the two servers behind the counter were friendly and super nice. -I glanced into the kitchen/storage area for the employees, behind the counter (the door was open) and it was immaculate, with sparkling clean floors and silver metal shelving containing all their supplies. Super organized and big. -as mentioned before, my meal was done exactly as I ordered it and it was great! FYI: if you download their app you can register for their reward program which is pretty decent. Today I got a discount code for ordering online, and I believe they have 20% off meals during their Happy Hour (week days from 3-5pm). Also note that there is only paid street parking here but thankfully the meter rates are much less expensive than most other places in the city (I paid 50 cents for 30 minutes).

Great food and great service! The torched tuna bowl was warm and delicious. Quick service even at lunch rush.

Compared to the locations on W 8th and Hornby, this location is more optimized for takeout; the seating is just stools at counters along the walls and for me the counter was awkwardly high compared to the height of the stool. It was also a little loud. If you're just getting takeout it doesn't make a difference because the food is consistent between all locations, but I would recommend the other location downtown (or the W 8th location if that's in range) for a more comfortable dine-in experience. I tried the Diamond Head pokerrito and subbed out the spicy tuna for the vegan tuna. It's still not a vegan meal if you do this because there are other seafood ingredients in the wrap, but I wanted to try the vegan tuna. It was delicious but very messy because the pokérrito is essentially a giant sushi roll and not sealed at the ends. You kind of have to keep it wrapped in the paper while you eat it but there's no graceful way to eat the ends. I really enjoyed the flavours of this even if I had to get my hands dirty though. The vegan tuna is pretty good. The texture is close enough to real tuna that I wouldn't have noticed it was different if I didn't know. I also got a tiramisu. When I ordered, the person making my order informed me that it was still frozen but it was still good frozen, like ice cream. So I decided that I'd try it and it was pretty good as a frozen dessert except the large ladyfingers at the bottom were slower to soften and hard to scoop out. The coffee soaked into the ladyfingers was pretty strong and the bitterness was a nice contrast with the mascarpone cream. Their prices are very reasonable. The pokérrito and tiramisu came out to $19.90.

Generous portion for protein and lots of options for the toppings: I got spicy tuna and salmon with mango, cilantro, pineapple, jalapeno, radish, edamame, spicy seaweed and crunchy garlic. It's also nice that they let you mix two sauces (the wasabi and super spicy one in my case).

The garlic shrimp dish is available on the weekend as the special, and was the main reason we stopped in. We ordered two of those ($16.95) plus $1 for lemonade. We also got da classic ($17.95) which has ahi tuna and salmon poke over a bed of rice. You order and pay up front, and pick up the food from the counter when your number is called. Everything was good. The ahi tuna was decent, the fresh vegetables were solid, with really good rice. The quantity wasn't huge, but would be sufficient for lunch. The garlic shrimp was really good, with corn, canned pineapple, and OK macaroni salad put together over medium grain rice. The master of flavor at this restaurant has the Hawaiian flavor down, and if we had time, I would try their Kalua Pork or their Loco Moco. Next time.

Today I came in to try their Maui ribs plate lunch…read more I got half rice, half very fresh salad greens, and instead of the scoop of corn, I got green onions. The mac salad was still perfect - not mushy, not too gloopy from too much mayo. The ribs were tasty, but the sauce was quite salty, so if you are on a salt restricted diet, this is not the dish for you. Also, I have to commend them for having decent rice - so many places have horrendous rice that I often find inedible. Other than the lack of chili pepper water, I'd say they do a decent job for a fast service Hawaiian plate lunch.

Way back…read morebefore COVID was in existence, my coworkers and I would grab poke pretty frequently from Steve's Poké Bar for lunch at Lougheed. We all loved having this as a lunch option because it's, well, relatively more nutritious and clean than say, burgers or fried Vietnamese spring rolls. So, my bro and I decided to give the SFU location a try and waiting in steady anticipation for our custom poke bowls. The food came relatively quickly and the portions are still quite generous but...the sauce department was lacking. We both felt like there wasn't enough flavour to the poke, and the plain white rice was starting to overtake the delicious toppings. It was a bit different from my past experiences with the Lougheed location. Anyways, still got my poke fix, though I may lean towards trying Pokey Okey more next time haha

I made my own bowl, which is always a lot of fun. First time I've had quinoa as a base, but let's give it a go! I think I went for most of the items, except for the ones where you had to pay extra. The tuna I got was fresh, as were the other ingredients. I went wild on adding sauces at the end. I designed a great concoction. I didn't get a seat at 3pm on a Thursday, so I had to walk back to campus to eat it. A quick thing I learned the hard way, if you want quinoa, use a spoon. Overall, friendliest staff I've met on campus, delicious choices, and quick service.
