I built my own bowl with salmon and scallop. The protein portions were so generous that I'm jealous Vancouver has such a great poke place (cries in Toronto). The salmon wasn't fishy at all, and the scallop was pleasantly sweet. The veggie toppings were fresh with a nice crunch and a variety of textures. The price was very reasonable for the amount of food. The service was friendly and efficient, and the ambience was casual. The hard seats were a bit uncomfortable. If this kind of place were in my neighbourhood, I would be a regular!
The ordering process was interesting and something I'd never seen before! Customers first choose a size, which limits the number of toppings they can select, then every scoop of protein is added on a la carte style (about $3 CAD for every scoop). I love salmon so I ordered the smallest bowl size with two scoops of spicy mayo salmon. The spicy mayo was quite spicy tbh. But that's okay because they offer a self-serve water station so I filled up there. The poke bowl was also decently cheaper than any poke I've had in the United States The fish quality was pretty good and soft. The imitation crab looked suspicious and my friend who ordered it as a topping said it was just okay. The rice was soft and tasty, not hard like it had been sitting out for a while. Washroom: Clean washroom! But toilet is a little rinky dink and the toilet paper is thin. The big mirror was nice
Good, simple, quick spot for poke bowls including vegan options. I got the large bowl, customized with a base (I got quinoa and leaves for $2 extra), protein (I got tofu), 5 toppings, sauce, and toppings. Reasonable portion and price. Petty solid no frills spot.
Grabbed a quick takeout dinner from The Poke Guy. We shared a kalua pork ($15.95) and da classic ($17.95). For both bowls, we opted for brown rice. Pork was bland, rice tasteless and there wasn't even a dressing on the salad. Poke bowl was slightly better but the ahi & salmon wasn't fresh. Save your money and eat elsewhere.
Just tried this location on Richards St for the first time, but I've also been to the Howe St location. The venue on Howe is a little nicer (it's very bright and open), but this building is also a nice comfortable hideaway to relax and enjoy some poke in. The only big difference is that this location just started serving bubble tea, which is what made me come here this time. I got "da bruddah bowl", which is a vegan poke bowl that actually includes vegan tuna! I haven't tried a lot of vegan fish before, but the ones that I have sampled tend to have a bit of an jelly-like texture because they're made with agar, which I don't really like, but I didn't pick up on that texture here, maybe because it was finely chopped. So I was pretty impressed with it - I actually don't think I would have noticed that it wasn't real tuna if I hadn't known. Vegan tuna aside, I also really enjoyed the other components of the bowl. It was fresh and the carrot ginger dressing was great! I tried the papaya latte to drink, and I was also pretty impressed with this. Creamy papaya flavour and lots of chewy crystal pearls. They were able to make it in the reusable cup I brought. The staff were great. They were nice to me, but while I was eating, so many customers came in with lots of questions and they were really patient with everyone.
I would say 4.5 stars because I found a little hair in my bowl lol but the food, service is 5 stars. We were in Vancouver on vacation and blindly walked into this poke bowl place because we were starving. I didn't have high hopes but was pleasantly surprised because their poke was really fresh with great ingredients and toppings. It's sort of like a chipotle set up where you pick a size, base and then add what you want. The fish is really fresh as were their veggies. The staff are really nice and knowledgeable when we asked about gluten free options which was very doable here. The proof is that my boyfriend didn't get sick after lol. We ordered two bowls, they are generous with the portions. I also got a spam musubi which was soooo good. It's the kind where they put furikake in the musubi rice. Yum! Definitely get this. When converting Canadian dollars to US, it's actually really cheap for poke bowls. I would recommend.

3.5 out of 5. This place was pretty good. I was on vacation from California and started to crave Hawaiian BBQ. Found this place and even though the taste was good I feel there was a lot to improve on. For example you only get 2 or 3 sides. I don't remember. Maybe because I'm used to things like edamame and seaweed thingy being free if you want some, I expected suche but it was like 1.25 extra. Anyway would i return? Maybe ...I would try other places too tho. Not bad at all but not the absolute best thing ever either so....check them out for yourselves.
Was super hungry & had to wait to check in our hotel. Was craving poke and came up on this place. The restaurant was super stuffy inside but their were fans around the restaurant. Went with my gut and ordered Da Classic & Broke da mouth. Both were huge portions. Fish tasted fresh & the ingredients went well together. Recommend if you're craving poke!
So I know it's not just me but COVID SUCKS and not being able to cross the border sucks even more. I miss hawaiian food and have been craving Mac salad and all that good stuff. Well my mind was being brainwashed on Instagram and BOOM "the poke guy" is popping on my feed on some TIKTOK something and I do I see the creamy goodness called hawaiian style macaroni salad? FRICKEN YESSSSS! We had to drive over there ASAP. So got ready and drove an hour and there it was.. parking was easy and right in front for FREE! Walked and and was greeted by a pretty friendly blonde lady and another gentleman. I checked the menu and I ordered their kanak attack which included not just the full meal but with your choice of Hawaiian Sun juice which is my fave or else any other drink plus 4 huge MATCHA white chocolate chip cookies!! So worth it and guess what? Download their app and get extra 10% off!! Only one thing I could suggest is a little bit more gravy for the loco moco? Or maybe I'm just a fatty lol. Try the kahlua pork. Seriously it's so moist and good, not like fake or too dry it tastes like you're chewing hay or something. Thanks everyone there and we will be back soon!!!
Food: The fish tasted super fresh and flavourful. It has a good mix of side ingredients because of the different texture each of them bring to the bowl. For example the crunchiness of roasted garlic really goes well with the softness of the ahi and salmon. I wouldn't say it is anything surprising though, but overall it is definitely still a good poke bowl. Portion: Normal but I find it a bit pricey for this portion Environment: Clean and cute
Dropped by cause I was starving and wanted to try something new instead of my regular work day lunch spots. Saw that the Poke Guy was the highest rated Poke place in the area and thought why not. I'm a huge fan of how environmentally friendly this place is. Serving the food in porcelain bowls and with metal utensils, or compostable containers and utensils for takeout is a huge plus to me. I appreciate that level of action being taken and encouraging as such to customers. The serving area is a bit small so it does take a bit longer than expected to be served but nothing too egregious for a standard lunch hour. Staff were very pleasant and seemed to enjoy being there. Ordered a large bowl with brown rice, ahi tuna, and the lomi lomi. Grabbed as many appealing toppings as possible and liked how much crunch options was available. Finished off with the sesame sauce. Was pretty happy overall with how things tasted. The fish seemed quite fresh and I was actually really enjoying how tasty the brown rice was. Was really happy mostly about how the crunchy options didn't count as a side and I could enjoy them. Wish there were more sides to choose from as I would have liked to pack a bit more food onto my plate. A couple quibbles detracted from my experience. I'm not a fan of the salad that was served alongside my order. The greens were pretty large and took up a lot more space than I'd like meaning I got less seaweed salad and crabmeat. I probably would have been fine with more brown rice or just not using up that space for the greens. I also didn't like how the rice was separated on one side while everything else was mixed on the other. Made it feel like I had to choose between my proteins/greens or the rice every bite. One final general comment, not negative or positive. The pricing felt a bit unconventional too since we were paying per scoop of poke to be added. I'm a bit used to paying for a certain size and getting an allocated amount of scoops. It was weird to ponder how much I wanted to spend and if I wanted to pay that extra bit to get the dish I truly wanted. I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason for this model and I don't look down on it. Was a bit weird to see. Overall, I had a fairly good experience at the Poke Guy. I would recommend others to try it out as I feel there's a great meal to be had here. My minor quibbles weren't enough to detract from the fact that the food was very good and the service was solid. Definitely a good place to drop by during your lunch hour.
Clean store, good quality fish and other ingredients. Nice staff. Fair price. I recommend this place.
Got delivery from here since I really was craving Loco Moco after a long and tiring day of work. The beef patty was really flat and dry but the gravy was really good and saved it and the portion was very large and filling. I also got a spam musubi to try and it was lacking flavour, I wish it had a bit of a sauce. Overall it was okay, I've had their poké before which I enjoy much more. read more
I came here on December 19th just to get a birthday discount. I ordered Da Classic ($17.95) with miso soup ($1). Everything was great until there were extra charge to put more veggies and toppings (like bonito flakes and fried onion). They used to be so generous if I wanted Furikake or other toppings and veggies. I regretted getting miso soup it was so salty. Poke bowl itself tasted delicious and healthy. I was happy to use $5 discount. read more

People probably go to @thepokeguyyvr for their poke but did you guys know they also have amazing Hawaiian dishes too?? We ordered the Hawaiian Huli Ribs ($15.95) and the Huli Huli Chicken ($13.95) plates. They both come with a generous portion of corn, Hawaiian mac salad and chilli pineapples. The stars of the show are the meats though - both the ribs and chicken are so well seasoned and TENDER. Also, for the price you pay, you're getting quite a bit of food. If you're a hungry soul looking for something tropical, I'd definitely recommend Poke Guy's Hawaiian dishes! read more

Was craving a Poke bowl found good reviews on this one decided to try it out and it did not disappoint. It was the best poke bowl i have had yet. Don't be fooled by the pic it did not do it justice. It was so packed that he had to push it down to put the lid on, hence the squashed somewhat unappealing look. It was delightful and i highly recommend it! Went back and again was not disappointed amazing fresh and delicious poke bowl!!! read more

I heard angels singing when I walked through the doors of Poke Guy. I was hanging around Vancouver before an upcoming convention session that's typically anywhere between 3 and 6 hours long, so I needed to come prepared with a motivating meal. My eyes widened at the smell of fresh fish and endless toppings. It was during lunchtime, and there was quite a crowd, both in line and at the tables around the room. The line moves quickly, and there's a large menu to help you decide what to eat while you're waiting. And of course the best part about seafood in Vancouver is how inexpensive it is for the quality and freshness! I ordered a small bowl that was packed with rice, fish, and toppings. Different types of fish vary in price, but it was still very reasonable. Pretty sure I made everyone jealous in that convention session (or super pissed at me because of the fishy smell) but it kept up my morale for the next several hours. I was in my happy place, and I still dream about the delicious poke bowl I had that day. Until next time, Vancouver! read more
Quality has gone downhill here since my last vist here, albeit my first time was a couple years ago. Options for fish were less (at least today), and the fish I got was still icy and portion size of fish given was soo tinnyyy. I personalized the bowl I ordered to take to go via an app and also found that the order was wrong... as a whole, while the poke bowl was fine, for the price paid, I didn't think it worth $12+ for mainly filler. read more

I went there a few days ago to try Poke for the first time and it was genuinely the best food I've had in a while! If you like sushi and tropical flavours, then I'm sure you would love this place! The seatings and lighting were very warm and welcoming. definitely would come back soon! read more

The best poke in Vancouver so far. The proteins are nicely marinated as they should be. The portion is generous and fair for the price. The food is fresh and tasty. Friendly service and nice cheery place. After adding most of the toppings, the bowl looked like a small mountain. Hard to eat as bits and pieces tend to fall out from the bowl. Maybe it would be easier to eat when ordered as take out. It closes early at 5 pm (or 7pm Wednesday to Friday or when sold out) so I do not get to have it that often. Do give it a try if you are in the area. It is near Harbour Centre. read more
I love this Poke place in downtown Vancouver. Location is good, I mean, it's in downtown. But, trying to find parking is going to be hard, because, well, it's downtown. So I'm not going to recommend dining in here unless your bussing, or ride-sharing, or transiting downtown. Parking is also very expensive, so it's not worth it. The food here is great, but I'm not sure it's worth paying a premium for the parking. Gets really expensive depending on how long you're going to be dining here. The food here is fantastic! They offer some very creative poke dishes. We like the food here, and we highly recommend it! Just be sure to order take-out :P There's a park nearby, so on a beautiful summer day, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get take-out and walk to the park and enjoy the food under the sun! The ambiance is decent. Nothing fancy. Lots of windows, and a bright atmosphere. The service is good. The staff are friendly, and the food does take some time to prepare - especially depending on what you're ordering. But during this COVID season, they, much like every restaurant out there right now, aren't allowing customers to dine in (understandably). They do offer take-out! Be sure to check these guys out. Their food is highly recommended. We encourage y'all to check and try them out, and support local business especially during this time. Many of the small businesses need our support. Check them out :) My breakdown: Food 4/5 Price 3.75/5 Location 3/5 Service 4/5 Ambiance 3/5 read more
Definitely would recommend. Huge portions, very fresh , and lots of different toppings. I ordered the big bowl for unlimited toppings. After that you pay by the protein of which one you one to add on and I chose the spicy sockeye and tuna. I'm kinda obsessed with good poke. Love how everything is labeled as well. I have to add this is crazy good... I had them bonito on top (some people say it's more fishy but so good) and other flakes I'm old Skool Asian where basically you anything. read more

This place is amazing, I've been coming here for poke over the last two months. The way it works is you select a base size and then you pay an additional amount for toppings of fish. The snack size is quite a filling portion and the toppings are fresh, well seasoned and a generous portion as well. For my three toppings I got : Wakame, crab meat, and masago. I got one scoop of the the spicy salmon which was an extra 2.50, then got a bunch of crispy toppings and when I asked for extra they were super generous with the extra scoop! For the sauce I selected the sesame and Teri-mayo! The Poke Guy is currently my favourite place for poke in Vancouver . It has such great prices for the portions and quality of the sides ! 11/10 amazing place !! read more

Delicious and healthy poké! The craze has hit Vancouver with several poké restaurants opening up. This a good one. Price is high but it's worth it occasionally. Quick, healthy and tasty. The ingredients all tasted good. The staff was helpful in my constructing my poke bowl on my first visit. They were generous with the scoops. Pricey but you get what you paid for - which is a bit of awesome. My first Poké bar in Vancity. It was pretty good - lots of choices toppings wise but close to $20 all in for lunch might be ok in downtown but definitely it was a treat. They opened at 11:30 and I walked in with another couple right at opening. Glad I went when I did cause there was a huge line behind me. I went all out and did a mish mash of 3 different fish proteins, bunch of veggies and a bunch of toppings in a large bowl. Everything was delicious! read more
I am totally amazed at the Poke here. This is the first authentic Hawaiian Poke place that I have tried so far in Vancouver. Yes Poke has grown to become quite popular. Not sure how it all suddenly started. Maybe too many people travelling to Hawaii on vacation and people just start talking. So my friend C recommended this place to me. She told me her friend said this place is good and authentic. She was right. Not to mention, they are super generous with their Poke. For after tax $13.35, the portion is twice as their competitor. When I say generous, I got two full scoops of Tuna poke and 2 full scoops of Salmon Poke. No kidding. I also had it with white rice, imitation crab, fish roe, corn, onion, cilantro, seaweed, sesame, fried onion and other seasonings. WOW that was really good. I have never had so much poke portion in one sitting. Decor is nice here. Location is OK. Its definitely far away from the commercial offices. Closer to SFU and BCIT. Well I am going to BCIT so it worked out. But as long as its good food, I don't mind travelling the distance for good Poke. Definitely worth coming back. Also note they close earlier then their competitor. read more
Our 2nd choice. Earlier in the day we arrived 30 mins before Carp @ Broadway & Prince Eddy opened up. Maybe we should have waited? Poke guy @ 420 Richards isn't 'bad'. Just nothing special. AND dear for what it was. Provided a filling serve, we did not leave hungry. The food: Tuna was ok. Both ahi and albacore nice fresh. Sockeye crumbly. Lomi lomi (salmon belly / tomato salsa like concoction) full of stringy bits = unacceptable at the price point $19 total for 'big guy' plus proteins = lose a star. Toppings carelessly heaped over one another. I wished to sample 'individually', guess got lost in translation, bit of a hodgepodge there. Wasabi mayo was tasty, but others got swamped and flavours muddled. Brown rice good. Salad things ok. Something was watery and gathered on the bottom of the bowl. See pic with stringy Salmon belly. Service was friendly, but in her haste, dumping toppings on each other instead of the 'separation' requested, made for a less than satisfactory tasting experience. (Our 1st visit to Poke Guy, we wished to sample the 'range', requested as such, but might have been 'misunderstood'?) Venue feels clean, but looks cluttered. Loos ok, seating area ok. Conclusion: Not the worst poke bowl in Vancouver. Filling & nutritious meal, some good moments, some flaws texturally and flavour wise. 3 stars or C grade. Not special. Vancouver HAS a better poke bowl, and we're GOING to find it read more
The best poke spot in Vancouver. I've eaten at a lot of poke spots in Vancouver, so I can confirm with you guys (haha)! Here are reasons why The Poke Guy is the best: 1. Reasonable price 2. Amazing service 3. Fresh poke daily 4. Quality 5. Big portion I give 5/5 mainly because the poke is always fresh and the flavour is as authentic as Hawaiian poke. Whenever I crave for poke, I come here even if it's 30-45 mins drive from where I live. I highly recommend to those who want to try poke or seeking a new place for poke. read more

Friday is poke day, and I always go to the same poke place so I thought today is the day I tried something different. It wasn't disappointing! Ordered the lil' guy with ahi tuna and limo limo (milo milo? Lilo liho? I forgot what it's called, but it's salmon belly with tomatoes and some other things, it tasted a bit like pico de gallo, except with salmon belly), and a bunch of toppings (basically all the toppings). I like the side salad option! I thought it tasted better than my regular poke place, but it was also slightly more expensive, but not reasonable. My only complain is their to go box, it's small and packed, made it really difficult to mix everything! read more

Technically 4.5 stars Note: Go Early for Variety It's true that I have a thing for cheap eats, and this place is a tad bit pricier for the portion but worth it! As a long time West Coast Racoon transplanted from another coastal city, I'm a big fan of seafood. Poke dishes are my jam. Unfortunately, not many poke shops in Vancouver have been doing it right in a sense that the seafood had not been pre-marinated. That's until I found The Poke Guy. The shop would have their standard list of marinated tuna and salmon along with a couple of featured items on rotation. I went there after the rush and got the staff there to "surprise me with an interesting combination" instead of building my own poke bowl. It soon became a game of "hint/guess the flavour preference". In the end, I end up with something very delicious and the staff and I all had a good laugh. Since then, I've been back quite a few times and the quality has been nothing but consistently awesome. Overall the place has a chill vibe, serves very fresh food, great for dining solo also, and has fantastic, flavourful marinated poke that Vancouver needs. Bonus: The business also has a sustainable policy for serving non farmed fish, ocean wise seafood, and uses compostable packaging if you are into eco-friendly practice. read more
