We stopped by here before boarding our cruise as it's close to the cruise terminal. Walked in and was able to get seated quickly outside. We just wanted something quick so ordered the poke nachos and the pretzel. Was surprised when our waitress asked if we wanted a slice of smoked cheddar melted on top! We're used to a cheese dip but when it came out, it was surprisingly good! Poke nachos were on point too! We devoured the food and enjoyed our beers! Beers were tasty! Seating outside was nice, we were street side and it does have a cover so were able to people watch as they walk by. It's by the water but I didn't see seating on that side. We asked the waitress if we could take our beers and check out the rest of the restaurant as there's another bar type section towards the water side. There's also a bar downstairs that's pretty cool where the bathrooms are! Bathrooms were an adventure to walk to but big pretty and clean!!! Definitely check them out as it's in walking distance of other touristy type spots!! read more

The seafood chowder hit the spot on a cold day and the focaccia was so good, I wish there was more of it! The chocolate porter had a lot of really yummy notes and packed a lot of chocolate flavor. I got the sleeve and enjoyed it until the very last drop. Service was friendly but it took a while for us to get his attention for the check (I thought restaurants LIKED getting their guests to pay the bill?). The place is HUGE and it was quite the journey to get to the restrooms from the main area upstairs. Getting to the restrooms was fun while sober but I can imagine it being extremely tiring/dangerous while drunk. Downstairs had a fireplace as well as a pool table, private rooms, and the ladies' room had at least TWO sets of those stalls for two which I thought was funny and cute. A classic Gastown spot with a fantastic atmosphere. We stopped in for a casual dinner and was impressed by how pleasant and attentive the service was. Our server was delightful and very helpful with recommendations on how to spend the rest of time on our first trip to Vancouver. Food was standard, reliable pub fare cuisine. The poutine fries was a solid choice. Steamworks is in a historic building with great views of the harbor although we were seated in the bar area didn't get a chance to feast on those incredible views, the experience here was still genuinely nice. 3.7 stars read more

Went to Steamworks in Gastown tonight and came across, for the first time in my life, a stall with tandem toilets, divided by a short wall. I do not love ANY person enough, not even my children, to make eye contact while doing my business. Wild! Food was okay. Cousin said jambalaya was mostly sausage and shrimp. When they say "a really good margarita" they are not lying. I am shocked at how good this margarita is not just for a brewery but for any restaurant. Tastes so fresh and just how I like to make mine at home. Their art around the restaurant is super cute and their beer glasses are awesome. It is a huge space but they do a great job at breaking it up so every section feels cozy and has a different vibe. This is a great upscale atmosphere to watch a game at. We sat at the bar to watch a football game and the bartender was so friendly. read more

Fun place! We fell in during the rain (of course). They just took it in stride, sat us quickly, and we got excellent quick service. Steamworks brews their own beer, you know we are stopping. Had a big party today (8). No problem. Appetizers were quick! Poutine, Yam fries, and alcohol, GREAT START! All the appetizers were excellent. The brewed Red Ale was quite different, but, tasty! A little over hoppy for me, but still quite pleasant. Wifey had the mojito. Not sure if she likes it, but it's almost gone before my ale! The choices here were right up our alley. I've shown you all of 'em. We had 8 people, but several chose the same thing. The pizza was "Wow! Damn, that's good!" Nice and crispy, a bit fluffy crust, cooked with perfect timing. To explain just how good the food was, a table of 8 was nearly silent for fifteen minutes! Service was so personable, and friendly. Verdict on the soup & salad from Wifey, soup, nice. We visited Vancouver this past weekend to celebrate my son's birthday, and wanted somewhere close to the hotel with good food and drinks, and Steamworks fit the bill. We didn't have to wait at all for a table. This place is huge! We got seated quickly, ordered our drinks and an appetizer, and had a great time. The food was pretty typical pub food...we had the (huge!) pretzel, poutine, pizza, and steak amongst the for of us and we all enjoyed our food. It wasn't the best food I've ever had, but it was good and the price wasn't bad either. Service was also great and overall I would recommend this place to others, I think it's worth going back to next time we're in town. read more

Great spot for beers with a full food menu! My partner loves to go to breweries and pubs for the drinks but as I non drinker I go for the food. I ordered the vegan jambalaya and our server picked up that I wanted it extra spicy. The kitchen delivered, its was very spicy! I was happy as I don't normally get this level of spice in my food at most restaurants. I was disappointed to find a hair in my food. We were able to get a table almost immediately despite the place being very busy. It was a lively atmosphere but not so loud that you couldn't have conversation. We came here for a quick bite to eat and some Bevvys, it was a great location based on where we were, near Gas Town, so definitely walkable to the touristy areas. We were seated pretty quickly and got to sit in an area that had a view of the water, which was great! Our server, greeted us quickly and promptly! And I'm sad to say I can't remember his full name, but it started with a D! He was helpful with the menu as we picked out our items and drinks, and constantly checked on us throughout our meals! Everyone ordered a bit of everything, I went with the wings, salt and pepper, extra crispy, with a side of buffalo sauce and ranch, and mine hit the spot!! I love dipping my wings so they stay crispy and I was definitely a happy camper. I also tried some of the sweet potato fries, or yam fries, as they call it and they were yummy with the balsamic glaze drizzle over them. A solid place for dinner when staying in downtown Vancouver. I do not drink alcohol so this will be pertaining to the food, however, beer lovers may love this place as this is a brewery. The food was solid but did not blow me away. The mussels were good, broth was nice, but not served with bread so you had to use the fries to soak up the broth. The burger was solid the bacon jam was noticeable could have used more sauce, did not blow me away. The butter chicken was pretty good did not expect that considering the majority of their menu. The nachos was lackluster, I would avoid this in the future. Nachos served with shredded cheese not nacho cheese. Way too many chips to cheeses ratio. Why would you lie about a table reservation? We asked to be sat at the view table and were told it was reserved...ok. We found out definitely later that in fact it was not reserved. I don't know....next time you wanna sit at a better table and you're told it's reserved...maybe flash them a $20 bill and see what happens.... The space, vibe and energy in the upstairs dining area is really cozy. The service (Evan) was excellent. The Lager was great. The Dry Ribs were decent. The Nachos. Skip it. Here's why. This is going to make me sound like my parents...but....years ago Nachos would come with plenty of Cheese, Guac, Salsa and Sour Cream and either chicken or beef. Yeah! I know crazy! There was a day way back when all that was part of a dish called "NACHOS." If it weren't so bizarre, it would be funny to think that all those ingredients are an extra charge now. If I had to personify the Nachos here.....it would be someone completely naked....it's like...ok sweetheart lets get some clothes on you....(see pic.) Place had a lower floor adjoined to the main by a spiral wooden staircase.. something that you rarely find in Vancouver. Ofc this makes the trek to the restrooms a far one if your table is on the patio, like mine was. Food was pretty good, nothing crazy. Nachos were yummy with a generous amount of toppings, steak was perfectly cooked but could have used a lot more seasoning. Caesar salad was yumz.. fresh, crunchy and savory. However, the seafood fettucine was not good.. regret not sending it back when it came to our table. It had an immediately off-putting and lingering fishy odor... espresso mouse was just ok.. Came here for a late bite with low expectations after some of these reviews. We wanted to try local craft beers and it was a short walk from our hotel. Pleasantly surprised by the great beer, food and service! Beer - my husband had a hazy pale ale, excellent. I ordered a double hazy IPA, also excellent. Definitely would have ordered seconds but we were so tired after our travel day. Highly recommend their beers and they have a great selection! When we travel we like to taste local beers and this met our goal. Food - we ordered a pretzel, ginormous and very good. Nothing better with beer than a nice warm pretzel. I ordered the fish Chowder, not expecting much, it was so great! Lots of different fish and shell fish, all tender. Had a little kick, creamy, and of course some bacon! Perfect for a light meal! My husband had the brisket tacos, very filling and tasty. We were too full to eat dessert but great options so we took Tiramisu to go (one that would keep). Prices for the portions were good. There are great happy hour options if you can make it in there early. Service - also excellent. Our server checked in with us often. He is local to Vancouver and suggested places to go and see. Despite the ocean views-- the website doesn't mention that are all restricted to ages 19 and over a major disappointment for our 10 yr old granddaughter. We were seated by front door--inside in an acceptable but without view or window booth. The menu was extensive. The best were the appetizers. We ordered yam fries which were served with a drizzle of balsamic glaze and a delicious dipping sauce . My husband ordered house made chips with onion dip. A huge serving that he and our granddaughter polished off. If ordering iced tea-- be aware that there is No unsweetened tea. Only vaguely sweet tea. And the root beer has an unusual flavor.... But my granddaughter finished it anyway. We had 2 different entrees butter chicken for me and pulled pork sandwiches for the others. The pulled pork were Huge! And served with an onion ring on top. Fries on the side. Polished off on total by both spouse and grand. The butter chicken was lightly spiced, served with rice and asparagus. Just right portion. Service was acceptable without hovering. Prices shocking but within expected range. All in all good but not fabulous. I would only return with adult s as otherwise you are paying for an unavailable view. Midday dinner for 3-$114 Canadian. I've been to Steamworks a few times over the year buy it's been quite a while since. Planning a meet up Downtown with some friends, we decided to get a bite here in the middle of the day. I grabbed a pulled pork sandwich for my meal. Service was decent on a non-busy day as our server was good about checking in now and then. It wasn't as loud as it normally was but I'm familiar with how loud Steamworks can get when it's packed with people. For a casual hangout, I was glad we didn't have to yell at each other. In terms of food, I was quite disappointed with my meal. The fries were fine, but my sandwich didn't seem to be seasoned correctly. I tasted a lot of bbq sauce, but it didn't seem like the pork had a ton of flavour. It wasn't very enjoyable to eat, but I guess it also wasn't terrible. I did decide after the fact that I needed a good sushi meal later that day so you can be the judge of my satisfaction. I think if you're looking for a place to drink and fill up on food, this might be a good spot for you. If you're looking for good food with drinks, I'm not as sure this fulfills that need.
