Classic pub / tavern that pours a great pint of Guinness. Dark and moody decor, decent pub fare, and good tunes in the later evenings. Features bar seating, booths, comfy chairs with fireplace, and an upper level with large table seating for big groups. Had many a great night here over many years as it provided a nice respite from all the crazy nightclub activity on Granville St. Sadly, they will be closing soon and will be dearly missed. The memories of the Morrissey Pub will live on in those who frequented it, and I will cherish mine. read more

Firstly when we arrived nobody greeted us for I would say about 10 minutes even though the place was quite empty when we arrived, and when we finally received a table we were seated at a table that was wobbly, and the menus we received were stained and sticky, which got me immediately on edge about hygiene and made me uncomfortable. For drinks selection - nothing special that you can't get anywhere else, and the place being quite empty the vibe was quite boring too. I just felt uncomfortable being there and there isn't anything special about this pub that you can't get better anywhere else. We finished the one drink that we got and headed elsewhere. Located on south west Granville street, we stopped in. The decor was cool. It was early afternoon when we came in - we were the only ones in the entire place. The bartender was friendly. He came over and told us there was a burger & beer special for 14$. We decided to share the burger. As always I wanted a frozen Bellini but they didn't have the machine and didn't have a blender, so my choices were limited. I decided to try the cider on tap- that too was unavailable as he couldn't "locate the keg" I opted for some spicy margarita that was ok.. the burger was also ok.. nothing memorable. read more

Vibes are really funny - gothic/goat devil themed, including old chandeliers, and then the music is every popular song from the 90s. We heard both Linger and Zombie by the Cranberries in the course of the hour, along with Creep[s] (both Radiohead and TLC!), No Rain, All the Small Things, Scar Tissue, and more I can't remember. This is the only bar I have regulary been coming to since the lockdown ended. And boy has it been a godsend. When I come here I generally enjoy the beers and they make a really good poutine here. Quick tip, if you are hungry and don't want to spend a lot of money, order the onion rings. Their rings here are very good and will fill and you up for under $10. Before the last closure (where the health authorities closed indoor dining the 2nd or maybe 3rd time and mandated only patio seating) the onion rings were only $8 and the pouting was $11. They usually have their mini burger for $6, but I found the breaded onion rings were more filling. Every day there is usually a drink special of some sort. You can get Jamieson's for $4 on Mondays. But the beer is not too badly priced. They also have an extensive cocktail list and the drinks are prepared by world class bartenders. Crystal, Rob and Ryan are excellent at their craft and you'll also find Meg and Tash wonderful servers. Also shout out to Rebecca in the back for her wonderful cooking. If you can get the burger and beer special I would highly recommend it. They seem to have moved the days that special is on. I think the last time I checked it was a Thursday special. But look on the sandwich board outside for their daily special. Also, the have a nice outdoor patio in the parking lot of the hotel so it is fairly private and away from the noise of the street and alley. read more

Bizarre decor choices aside, the atmosphere is pretty good and it's not a bad spot to do some drinking. Other reviews mention food, but I didn't see or hear of any during my visit. Snag one of the cozy nook tables just inside the front door to avoid screaming over the ear-splitting music on a Friday night. I really liked the cocktail menu, especially the Devil Inside. Server was unable to answer some basic questions about their liquor selection, and brought us the wrong drink at one point, but was super sweet, caught her mistake, and fixed it shortly thereafter. I wasn't too sure what to expect from this place, as I heard it's under new management. Well, on my experience, I had a great time. Its a good size, but with a bit of a lounge style to it. There's a cute fire place with some cozy chairs, full, semi private booths and some bench style 1/2 booths with comfy cushioned seating for those sensitive butts. It's sorta dim lighting, could be a little more dim in my opinion. Wood floors and tables. Initially, my server was slow to great me, but overall she was fantastic! Service was attentive and quick, and with a smile every time she came around. Recommendations were also given when I wasn't too sure what to order. This pub has some vegetarian options and there seems to be specials most nights. I really enjoyed the old school rock and punk jams that were eclectically playing on the stereo. Around about 9 pm the music got quite a bit louder and the lights got a little more dim lol. It was quite quiet on a weekday evening, which I really didn't mind. I would totally come back to try out some of their specials. I ordered the Threesome of dips, which came with lots of soft pita bread and veggies for dipping. It was a lot of dip, worth the price. My only complaint was there needed to be more of a veggie variety. I was drinking gin martinis which were made very well. Often in a pub, its too difficult for bartenders to make these classic yet simplistic cocktails. Mine were wonderful. I also tried the Elton Gin, which was too sweet for me, so maybe I ust stick with the martinis. My other recommendation would be to improve the wine list. read more

Came here for some drinks. Parking is quite horrendous here - try Pacific or the area under the Granville Street Bridge. As expected from most venues, the inside is dark, and the music is too loud for talking. Not sure why they keep doing this. It's honestly a bit irritating. Special mention goes to the giant mirror in the back - that thing is huge. It honestly makes the place twice as large as it really is. I almost walked into the damn thing, thinking there was a secret back room. Beers here are quite expensive, at $16-20 for a pitcher. As I did not eat here, I cannot comment on the food. read more

I can't believe I've never reviewed the Morrissey! I couldn't even count how many times I've been here over the years. It's a nice change from all the typical Granville Street bars and nightclubs. I love the dark, casual atmosphere, and I love that it's not a sports bar! Another plus? You won't hear Top 40 here! I like the vibe of this place. The inside is pretty cozy and if you look up, there are this mega chandelier's with candle wax on them. They have tables, but they also have comfy sofas at the back. The people are easy going and friendly. The only little downside is that at times, it can become pretty cramped. They have a decent beer and wine menu. The cocktail wasn't bad. I had the calamari, which was okay. I'd probably come back to this place to have a few drinks and hang out with friends than for the food. read more

I've been here a few times and it's always been a delight. In terms of service, a server has always been prompt no matter how busy the pub has been. They've also always been knowledgable about the beer and food menus, and have always guided me towards great drink and food when I've asked for some suggestions. The atmosphere is terrific as well. The music is always playing but never so loud that it hinders actual conversations with people across the table. And the music generally is awesome! And the food...well...it's great! I've had a few of their sandwiches, all of which have been extremely filling and tasty, as well as their curry poutine. Get that poutine! It's a really nice treat. Last time I was there they also had a cheesecake-concoction for dessert which was amazing, though their desserts change on a regular/nightly basis. Yummy! The China plating is random here. I got a cider and the grilled cheese for happy hour. The grilled cheese had fried cheese on the outside. The bread was a seed whole grain. The chips were well salted and also super good. I did feel bad there was maybe two servers on 4/20 and the one we had was had was really quite rude I think because she was flustered and overworked. They didn't have a dedicated bartender so the servers were mixing and serving. It often took 30+ minutes to get the bill but I think again 2 people were serving a full house. read more

I was a fan off the Morrissey, nice decor, great music and a comfortable space. Normally this would be an easy 4 stars for me but last night they left me with a post Canucks bad taste in my mouth. Auto-gratuity. Yes that is correct, with our gigantic group of 3 we were charged an auto gratuity and informed of this after we received the bill. The reason for this? Well apparently there is an auto gratuity for the Canucks game. After some thought I was able to translate this in a way I could understand: "Hello, because it's busy here i'm not going to be able to serve you properly. With this higher than normal activity level this allows me to be rude to you and leave you waiting while you go to the bar yourself to get a drink. Thanks for automatically paying for our well deserved gratuity, I hope you don't realize this charge is on the bill so we can further solicit money that we do not deserve." So not impressed with the Olympic-gouging service charge that was added to our bill. Even though our bill was split up and each of us had our own service charge of about 18% added to our drinks and dinner, there was nothing on the menu stating this fact and also nothing said to us by our server when we arrived. The service was still good, and I probably would have tipped 20% but I don't like being told how much I should and should not tip. I don't like that they have added a mandatory tip onto my bill and not told me, so if I hadn't read the thread on the Yelp Talk forum, I wouldn't have even checked and left the 18% plus my 20%. So I pretty much would have paid 38% in tips when my bill before tips and tax was only about $28, which is about a ten dollar tip. Don't get me wrong, the drinks were good, the fries I ordered were good, the waitress was great, she even checked to see if the oil the fries were cooked in was vegan-friendly, and it was! :) I'm just not down with the Olympic-gouge.
