    Salmon poke bowl
    Evan C.

This is the kind of hidden gem I debated even writing a review for cuz it's so good that I'd rather it stay hidden. Sigh. Space is small but the bowls are amazing. $15 for a poke bowl with genuine wild salmon! The quality is obvious, it's wild and not like the farm salmon texture. Great flavour. Amazing.

An amazing little gem in the neighborhood. The fish is fresh and the rice is perfectly cooked. Their gomae and miso are delicious and unique as well --they stood out even more than the poke itself! The staff are friendly and the restaurant itself is clean and has a cool vibe!

Mango roll, tuna poke roll, candied salmon roll

Very friendly staff at this Japanese owned sushi restaurant. Service was extremely quick and there are a few tables to sit inside. I got the mango roll, the tuna poke roll, the candied salmon roll, and the crunchy prawn roll. Seafood was fresh and the rolls were not bad but felt it was a bit pricey. A good place for sushi when in the neighborhood!

Alright, I'm totally a laggard. Finally tried the Poke bowl at this down to earth spot. It was perfect for lunch and the bites between all those pieces of tuna and avocado were just very pleasing. Not too much sesame oil like other places. Would love to return to try the cones and curry. And probably ahi tuna too.

One of our favorite Japanese stops for sure. Carp is a gem in the city. A small business that provides fresh Japanese cuisine. The restaurant itself isn't very large, so under more normal days (when the pandemic is done and over with), they won't be able to host a large group. They are more ideal for smaller groups, and for take out. Their food is delicious! My only gripe with things is that I wish they would offer a larger portion. Not saying that what they're offering is small portions - they are decent in size - but a bit more could make the food more bang for the buck. The location is good. Central in the city. They are located just east of Main Street. Parking can be found along the street, and around the neighborhood with a short walk. They are also close to the Broadway Corridor, meaning they would be well served by bus routes. There is no access to Skytrain (yet) unfortunately. But the Broadway Line will eventually be built, and once it is, many people will have better access to Carp. It would be more convenient to get to. Until that time arrives, however, cars and buses are the way to go. If you live in the neighborhood, then a walk or even a bike ride could be your alternatives to get to Carp. Price is a little on the more expensive side. Again, I wish they would be a little more generous with their portions. But the price, even though a little on the expensive side, is still, in my opinion, worth it for fresh Japanese cuisine. We don't come to Carp all the time. But when we do come here for the food, we are always satisfied. They make good food, and their service is respectable, kind and considerate. We placed an order, and the food was ready in about 10-15 min. They were very fast! During this time of the pandemic, there are a lot of smaller businesses in our city that need our support. We highly encourage anyone who's yearning for some authentic, fresh Japanese food, to come and give Carp a try! You won't be disappointed :) My personal breakdown: Food 4/5 Price 3.75/5 Location 4/5 Service 4/5 Ambiance 3.75/5

I work very close to Carp and it's such a pleasure to be able to call in, order takeout and food is always ready in 10 minutes (orders are usually for me alone, so it's quick) I've had Carp on a few occasions, each and everytime the quality and freshness is excellent. Today I ordered the Mt. Pleasant Combo, it came with Salmon, Tuna and Prawn nigiri, half a California roll, small curry with rice and miso soup. As mentioned above, it was fresh and high quality. It definitely is worth a try if you haven't been. There is no dine in now, but still great for takeout.

This is a small place, can fit about 12-14 people as there are 3 small tables for two and a long table that fits about 7-8 people. There is a small open fridge for light takeaway snacks like their candied salmon, truffle potato salad, drinks, etc. Their sushi, poke bowls and appetizers are so delicious I might over order. The pieces/portions are decent sizes, not huge like some other places but I rather have quality over quantity. Had ordered the hawaiian five, candied crush, California roll and a small carp bowl. The hawaiian five has spicy tuna, mango and avocado. It wasn't too spicy and the mango went will with the other ingredients. The candied crush had candied salmon and spicy salmon. My friend really liked the carp bowl. The poke bowls have two sizes and the price for them are below other places. However these poke bowls aren't like the ones you get at all those poke shops as these are basic bowls but really good bowls. The salmon and tuna were fresh and firm and they were good sizes. The sushi/cook is right there so you get to see him create the dishes. The sushi was served on a tile, something different than other sushi places. This place reminds me of another small sushi place on Kingsway by Nanaimo Street.

My sister has been raving about this place and kept hounding me to try it, so I finally checked this place out. I love the little japanese touches everywhere and overall, the decor is very cute and attractive. I had the aburi tuna salad and anago sushi. Both were fresh and tasty. I was lucky enough to grab a seat before the lunch rush started. It was challenging to find street parking due to the construction happening in the area, but it's definitely worth checking out. I would return to try the poke bowl that everyone's talking about.

Poke Bowl Vancouver CHAMPION! AUTHENTIC JAPAN FLAVOUR. REAL. Flavours to savour. Delicate. Not humongous mountains of mediocrity, but morsels of deliciousness. Nicely seasoned and balanced super fresh ahi tuna. Tender. Satisfying. Ditto the cone trio with side of wasabi ginger miso soup. Not the cheapest... Simply the best of local POKE on our limited experience. 4.7 rating RECOMMENDED.

Salmon poke bowl, "mini" sized but still ample!
    Abigail S.

Carp is one of my favorite lunch spots in Vancouver, and I find myself recommending it to others often. I haven't been able to diversify beyond their salmon poke bowl because I enjoy it so much. It's a delicious and nourishing serving of perfectly fresh fish, creamy avocado chunks, savory furikake sprinkles, and artfully prepared rice. The "mini" size, available for under $10, is still an ample sufficiency of food, and one of the best lunch deals in town. The young couple who run the establishment are incredibly hardworking and pleasant. He seems to do the food preparation while she works the front-of-house. There is free cold tea and water to sip while you wait. The space is small and can get mobbed at lunch time, but the cramped quarters are worth it, and they are happy to do takeaways. I can't endorse this spot enough!

We had some no contact essential travel to do in Vancouver and chose to try Carp for some poke bowls before heading back to the island. They've done a great job of creating a contactless pick up outside and the food was excellent, we're eating KETO and they subbed in greens for rice in our spicy salmon bowls, with avocado they were filling and flavourful and satisfying. We would definitely go again.

This is the best sushi in Mount Pleasant. I wish it was open every day, 24 hours a day.

Not a ton of toppings, but enough to put together something good. The prices are fair - the pricing is based on the number of protein scoops you want, and includes 5 veggies with unlimited sauces and standard "sides" (which are really just more veggie toppings), which is enough that you probably won't need to add on extra and bump the price up, although there are premium options like the kale noodle base and masago that cost extra. The tofu bowl that I ordered was fresh and tasty. I ordered with the kale noodle base, and they were really good (pretty stuck together at first, though), but I'm skeptical of the $2 upcharge. Overall not the most memorable, but seems like a safe option for something quick, fresh, and healthy. The shop has kind of a sterile look, but it's clean and the staff is nice.

Solid healthy options at this typical poke bar…read more I ordered their vegetarian poke bowl ($12.95 plus tax; which can be done vegan), which comes with tofu, and everything else is customized. I went with brown rice and salad leaves for the base, and added all sorts of toppings with a couple of sauces. The order was ready exactly when they said it would. Tasty enough, with fresh ingredients. There certainly was nothing remarkable about it, but it was a solid healthy option. Good spot for a casual grab n go meal made fresh.
