Finally got to try this legend of a sushi spot. It's Korean-owned and in the heart of Davie Village. They don't take reservations, so I suggest walking in, leaving your name and then walk to explore the neighbourhood & beaches while you wait for your call-back. I felt like we got great value since their pricing was more mid-tier BUT what we got was higher quality of fish, beautiful plating, & a more refined ambiance! We tried: -spicy salmon sashimi (I LOVE that they used gochujung instead of of a sriracha-based sauce) -seasonal bluefin sashimi (so melt in your mouth) -Salmon Jalapeno Aburi Hako (too much sauce, and too little melt in your mouth salmon compared to the rice. I've had better aburi) -Dirty Magma roll (I had such high hopes for anything with chopped scallops - but man do they drench & overwhelm it with too much sauce...I had to scrape most of it off since that's all you can taste) Overall, happy to have tried it but it won't be in my favourite roster of sushi joints. I would come back only for their spicy salmon sashimi though!!
I would give Tom Sushi 6 stars if I could. This is one of my all time favorite sushi places. I found out about this restaurant from a few different YouTubers who highly recommended it. Not just for great sushi, but really affordable prices as well. Yes, the wait for a table can get long. We waited about 45 minutes, and there's no area to wait except outside or go take a walk since they will text you when your table is ready. I also appreciate seeing where my place in line is through Yelp! First, a shoutout to the wonderful service here. Everywhere I go in Vancouver the service is great, but the server here was so friendly, helpful and efficient. The ambiance is really nice here and I love the place settings! We had a lot, so here is my breakdown: Spicy Agedashi Tofu - lightly fried tofu in a sauce that reminded me of gochuchang sauce. 7/10 Gyoza - crispy fried with a pork/veggie filling. 6/10 Karaage chicken - on the bone, but delicious nonetheless. Served with a mayo sauce. 7/10 Tuna Bomb - 10/10 this came out last because it takes longer to make. This is an absolute must-do. Crispy rice patties with a spicy tuna spread that you just place on the rice. Salmon jalapeno aburi hako - 10/10 I have been excited about this since I heard about it. The seared salmon on top of rice with a shrimp tempura running through the middle. The salmon and sauce on top melt in your mouth. Red Dynamite Roll - 9/10 this was my brother's favorite. I wanted it to be a bit spicier, but that said it's still so amazing. Mango Flower Roll - 9/10 if you like mango then you will love this. This also just melts in your mouth and that mango is just so fresh. California roll - 8/10 as great as a California roll can be! No complaints here! Rainbow Roll - I didn't get to try it, but my niece gave it a 10/10! I will definitely be coming back here again.
My friend wanted to try this place, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived around 5:45pm, and were told there would be about a 90 min wait and they would contact us when our table is ready. It ended up being closer to 60 min. The place is not big. I counted maybe 36 seats. The interior is nice but generic enough to be just about any type of restaurant. The menu accessed via QR code. I ended up trying the following: - Assorted Tempura: Good. Light batter, but slightly overbrowned. - Miso Black Cod: Good. More elaborate presentation than most, but very small piece. - Salmon Belly Sashimi: Very good. Fresh and delicious. - Tom Special Roll Tray: Very good. A great way to sample all the different roll, all which are very good. I thought it was reasonably priced and could adequately feed 4 people. Service was very good. There are a LOT of staff, so we were constantly being checked on to make sure we were happy and got anything we needed. Overall a good meal. It doesn't classify as the best sushi in Vancouver, but I can see the quality-value ratio might be the best in the city. All the food was quite good and certainly not overpriced. I imagine the high staff count was due to the overwhelming amount of takeout orders. I would return.
Salmon sashimi was super fresh and yummy! The rolls were ok - a bit too saucy/decorated for my taste, but not bad. This place seems very popular. It was very hard to get seating on a weekday evening - the wait was over an hour and they said they didn't know if they'd be able to seat us before closing. We ended up ordering to go, which took about ~25 minutes.
Went on a Saturday night around 8:10pm and got told they would call us by 9pm if a spot opened up. They were very clear about the fact that last call is shortly after 9 so we might not be able to get a table in time. I appreciated this and would much prefer this over expecting to have a table than being disappointed. We got lucky though and were able to get seated right around 9. Service was very prompt and we were able to order, eat, and get out of the restaurant pretty quickly. Overall great experience even though I didn't absolutely love everything we ordered House roll: 3/5 this was ok. It sounded good initially but I think there was just too much going on Spicy chopped scallop roll: 4/5 presentation wasn't the best but it still tasted good Red dynamite roll: 5/5 their most popular roll for good reason. I would def recommend this one Salmon and tuna nigiri: 5/5 I liked both a lot and this perfectly scratched the itch for my sushi craving
After an okay experience at one of Vancouver's more famous sushi restaurants, we decided that we needed to visit Tom Sushi for some better food. I walked in and checked in. Almost an hour later, we were seated. Service was good. We ordered a bunch of rolls, nigiri and some sashimi. Most of the rolls seemed like a variation of a California roll with different fillings. The nigiri was a variety of tuna, salmon, shrimp, clam and scallop. The sashimi was a nice piece of tuna. Everything that they served was fresh and tasted good. We liked our experience at Tom Sushi. They gave us what we missed the night before at a fancier place.
TLDR: Great sushi restaurant at an affordable price and good location. Would recommend going early since it does get quite busy and the space isn't huge. Food: We had the tuna nigiri trio (2 orders), salmon aburi, kimchi udon, and dx assorted nigiri. All pieces of fish were extremely fresh and tasty, with the tuna trio being a highlight by progressing from lean tuna to fatty otoro. The aburi was also amazing, with the richness of the aburi style complemented by the spicy jalapeno and crunchy tempura inside of the pieces. The dx nigiri combo had standard pieces and both salmon and tuna maki. One thing to keep in mind is that only the tuna trio came with "real" wasabi, all other items came with horseradish wasabi. Price: The prices here are great, which is probably one reason why the restaurant is so busy. To get this quality of sushi at this price is an extreme value! Service/Ambiance: Service was outstanding with there being lots of wait staff. The restaurant isn't very large, with tables being fairly close to one another but that wasn't a huge issue for us since we only had 2 people. The decorations are bright, modern, and chic. Misc: Tom sushi does not take reservations! We went at around 6:15 on a Saturday and had to wait around ~20 minutes for a 2 person table. After us though the waitlist did grow to over 5+ parties.
Tuna Vancouver is better than Seattle. All the food was presented wonderfully. Soba has frozen broth which kept the the firm texture just right. I'm not a roll person, but this signature roll had fried bits over a glorified California roll. I really enjoyed the nigiri. Highlights to otoro, fluke, scallop, shrimp/shrimp head. Also a good date spot. There were a couple of tables where people were on date night.

We arrived late in the evening as our efforts to go to another West End restaurant failed glad we came to Tom sushi as Every dish was presented very quickly and was freshly prepared even though it was last call shortly. I had the teriyaki chicken with rice, which was a very generous serving for an extremely reasonable price. I also had chicken karaage which was freshly deep-fried and not refried stationed food The tuna and salmon sashimi were very cold and generously cut. Aburi Sushi was perfectly pressed with jalapeño pepper to add some heat sushi is my go to downtown
Visiting from Toronto and wanted sushi before I leave. Did some research and came here on Thanksgiving around noon. It was busy and we put our number down for a table. They said it would be 25 min wait but it was ended up only being a 5 min wait. The restaurant isn't very big but very cozy with comfortable seating. The service was fast, quick and attentive. I got the salmon aburi and dirty magma specialty roll. Everything was very tasty, the ingredients paired well, and it was fresh. I did find their sushi a little too saucy, but it was good nevertheless. The beef yakisoba was also really tasty, average portions. My partner got the bluefin nigiri trio and said the fish was very fresh. Overall, a solid spot for sushi. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for sushi in Vancouver!
This is my second time at Tom's and I love it here. As soon as you walk in you can smell the delicious sushi. Everything is fresh and well made. The rice is seasoned perfectly. Sashimi is thick and flavourful. Can't go wrong with any of the rolls. The Aburi is also delicious. We got a creamy kimchi udon this time and I was surprised by how much I liked that one too. Be prepared to wait a while but it's worth it. Just walk about nearby until it's your turn. There's a waitlist but no reservations. Service is friendly. I'll be back!
One of my favorite places to get sushi in Vancouver! I try to come every time I am visiting the country. The prices are really great and affordable for fresh fish. The restaurant isn't that big and it's quite popular so try to make reservations ahead of time or be prepared to wait! Great for mainly parties of 2-4 ppl in my opinion. A must order for me every time is the salmon aburi sushi. Highly recommend!

So fresh! One of the best yellowtail I've had! Customer service was great! All Ladies were super charismatic. Ambience was cosy and nice. Small so there is a good chance for wait but it's worth it. read more
Walk-in or take-out only sushi restaurant in downtown Vancouver with some of the freshest fish I've ever had. I've visited Tom Sushi multiple times whenever I visit Vancouver, and there's always a line waiting during busy times. My recommendation is to come during off times, like 1pm on a weekday or 5pm before the dinner rush. Takeout wait times are usually 15-20min. It's not the most expensive sushi, but it's also not the cheapest either. Their bluefin tuna sets are definitely worth it. read more

Visiting Canada again and decided to bring a friend here! It was really good, the service was okay. The wait time was so long but worth it. The service we had the last time was better, this time it took really long to close us out. We were sitting there waiting for our check for a long time. Even when we were ready to order, it was hard to flag someone down. Our favorite were the veggie tempura and I loved the Toro! In my opinion I loved it raw and without the auburi. read more
This is a great hole-in-the-wall to dine in. My date at the time had always wanted to go inside but never really had the chance until we decided to go. We were well received by the hostess and sat a a decent table. Everyone is really friendly and helpful! We personally liked that it's small and feels intimate. Perfect for a nice family dinner or dates. The playlist they had on was rockin'! The food was really good. Sushi was fresh and not overcooked or over-seasoned. I'd say prices are moderate for what you get. My only piece of advice is that we felt that the restaurant would get more foot traffic if they had better signage/branding outside. Incredible long wait (which I was already aware of from other reviews and YouTube recommendations). My gf who really enjoys salmon said this was some of the best salmon sushi she's ever had. Inside the restaurant is small in the number of tables they have but it's still a very comfortable place. I'd recommend having a plan to walk around the area and site see or even put your name down on the list a little bit before you're really hungry since the wait might be at least an hour to an hour and a half. read more
Average but cute sushi spot! Inside is vibey with a wood finish everywhere! My friend and I came around 5PM on a Monday and was surprised to see that the place was full already. We checked in with the host and had to wait around 20 minutes to get seated. We got the: Bluefin Sashimi Trio ($46) - Their Honmaguro Bluefin Special included O-toro, Chu-toro, and Akami; they recommended us to eat from least fatty to most fatty. I fear even their most fatty was kinda mid: not exactly the melt in my mouth experience I was looking for. DX Assorted Sushi Combo ($35) - This combo itself is a SOLID deal but you pay for what you get and it's average quality. If you're looking to get full with sushi at an affordable price point (not the bluefin though), this is the spot; however, quality is gonna be mid. read more
06/27 8pm We had to wait over an hour and 45min, but the food was worth it. If we are ever back in the area we may try it, but definitely would call ahead to see how long the wait would be. Cannot go wrong here with quality and value. In a city filled with some of the best sushi in North America; this delivers always for the more casual style. Even on a Thursday around 2PM it's busy. Ordered their huge prawn tempura, yellowtail sashimi, and bluefin tuna 3pc sampler sashimi. Just fantastic! read more

Hands down one of the best sushi experiences I've ever had! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and beautifully designed. The service was attentive, friendly, and genuinely made us feel valued. The sushi was incredibly fresh you can truly taste the quality in every bite. The fish melted in my mouth, the rice was perfectly seasoned, and each roll was crafted with such attention to detail. The specialty rolls were creative without overpowering the natural flavors. Presentation was stunning, portions were generous, and everything came out quickly. Whether you're a sushi lover or trying it for the first time, this place absolutely delivers. A must try for sushi lovers! I had wanted to try the sushi in Vancouver while I was visiting and I was not disappointed. The fish was super fresh, the tea was hot and the selection was phenomenal all for a great price. The quality of the fish was so much better than back home. Good portion sizes and a wonderful selection, they have something for everyone here. All the staff were super friendly and very attentive. We felt very welcomed inside. The place was busy but not overly so. Every table has enough room for it to feel comfortable. The place was very clean and everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals. Came here because of all the good reviews. Sunday 7PM had to wait 30minutes to get in. Lots of take-out orders. They will text you when your table is ready. Place stays 100% full. Staff were very kind. Unlimited free tea. Asked what the difference between wild salmon and salmon sashimi - waitress said color and personal preference. Salmon Sashimi - 10/10 absolutely delicious. Bluefin Sashimi Trio (2 pieces of each which if perfect for 2 people) $46 for 6 pieces. 10/10 so delicious would have got more if not for the price. Deluxe Jalapeno Abuir Hako - I found it too spicy. Boyfriend loved it. 9/10. Smoked Yam Roll: 8/10. Was fine and nice and cheap House Roll: 10/10. Miso soup: very standard but cheap My critique is that the soy sauce bowls were sooo tiny and the rolls were so large it was very difficult to dip. Loved that the staff did not make you feel rushed. Would have loved a tablet on the table to order more as you go. Overall 100% would recommend this spot especially for sashimi. read more
Yet again, another excellent time at Tom sushi. I have probably been here four more times since I wrote my last review three years ago. The prices, quality, and experience I've had at this place is always a 12/10. Their sashimi, scallop roll (or nigiri), and creamy udon are some of my favorites. Best sushi I've ever had. If you're looking for sushi in Vancouver, this is a must try. I ordered a roll and salmon nigiri. Got take out to have a car picnic by the beach and the sushi was just as good as a dine in experience (which I've had many times before)! One of my go to spots for sushi in Vancouver. We had to wait about 35 mins after ordering online for take out, but it's worth the wait! Got a ton of food for a great price, my favourite here is the sashimi and nigiri, the fish is always fresh. read more

We've been wanting to try Tom Sushi for quite some time. Even on a weekday evening - we were quoted a 30 min wait but the actual wait was a lot shorter than that. Their menu is quite extensive but we were most interested in trying the sushi rolls. We got the Salmon Jalapeno Aburi Hako and the Saba Miso Aburi Hako and it was interesting to have tempura in the middle of the roll which gave the roll a bit of crunch. My friends and I decided to drive up to Canada after seeing our photos of the sushi from this place from our previous trip. It was that good and they delivered again! The servers are all very friendly and they do an amazing job making you feel welcomed. The sushi melts in your mouth! I wanted another tray. Such a steal for great sushi. read more
Love this place. Everything about it is fabulous, from the location on Davie to the servers, the fresh and delicious food, the nice ambiance, relaxing music, and 2 clean restrooms. Always eat here daily or as much as possible when I visit Vancouver. Combo specials are what I usually order as they're nicely priced with a variety to choose from. With an average $12-15 USD each, the price is amazing and absolutely makes sense to fly up from California just to have sushi. read more
