We've been going to Pitfire Pizza since they opened on Arroyo. We always like their pizza. Good crust good toppings. Today was a bad and good day. The meal was a loss. The Pizza was cold (might have been due to Grubhub) and the kale salad was old and unbearable to eat (not the first time) so we threw it out. $18 bucks! That's the bad news. The great news which redeems Pitfire is the fact that Customer Service is not dead. I called to complain ,which I never do, about the bad salad and asked for the manager. I failed to get her name but she was absolutely fantastic! It wasn't the usual negative response. She offered to send over another salad but my wife wasn't hungry anymore so we declined. But she then offered to send another pizza. That's what I call a commendable manager. I wish I got her name. I would like the owner to see this review personally thank the manager. We've been here prior to the pandemic. Food was much better back than. Service was fine. We ordered our food without much wait. I ordered a couple of drinks and a salad. I thought they would bring it to our table like the food, but I had to back to the counter to retrieve them. When I got my salad, the lettuce was withered with brownish edges. Very disappointed. My friend ordered the same and got the same low quality, withered salad. On top of the bad food, we were heading to the parking lot when my young kid read out loud,"F*** China" that was painted on the curb of their parking lot. It wouldn't be too much to ask to remedy that situation with some paint. We will not be returning. read more

Figured this was some type of Blaze Pizza clone so I never bothered. Finally tried it and looking forward to coming back! Boneless wings were weird cause they weren't by the piece but ounces. They were more like shredded chicken coated in breading and sauce. It was unusual, something i've never seen before but it was excellent! Pizza was also super crispy and thin with delicious and flavorful cheese and toppings. The brick oven really makes a difference. Went on a weekday afternoon so it was mostly empty but down to come during night time when the full bar is hopping. read more

Pepperoni pizza - it was just fine. A lot of the crust was burnt underneath and ruined the whole flavor. Baked Mac and cheese - do NOT get this. Probably the worst Mac and cheese I've ever had. The cheese did not stick to the noodles at all and just clumped together, and the noodles were swimming in a gross soupy milk mess. I'd been here before Covid and remembered it to be pretty good, so I thought I'd meet up with a friend here for weekday lunch. We always wanted to try this place and finally had the chance to do so this weekend. The dining area is spacious, with both indoor and outdoor seating. It's like fast food pizza where you place the order at the cashier and then you find your own seating. They have a small bar near the cashier with some seats available. The pizza dough is hand tossed and made to order. I think the dough is a bit dry and flavor is okay. The spaghetti meat sauce is on the sour side. We had the spaghetti with chicken meatballs spaghetti and sausage pizza. Our friends got the kale salad and another pizza. I like the sausage pizza. It was thin crust and the pizza sauce is a bit different from regular pizzas. It had a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, I liked it. Our order of chicken meatballs spaghetti was disappointing. The meat balls was dry and hardly had any flavor. The chicken mushroom macaroni pasta my friend ordered was good. Next time, i will order it for myself. Service was good. We had a great time eating here on a Saturday night. You order at the counter, find a seat/table, and then the servers will deliver your foods. It's a spacious, fun, laid back place that's great for big parties. There's a full bar serving cocktails, wine, and beer. We ordered the chicken meatballs, bbq chicken pizza, a margarita, and an old fashioned. The drinks are very strong and taste like pure alcohol. The chicken meatballs were juicy and drowned in a margarita sauce. Those were better than the pizza. The bbq sauce was too sweet and overpowering. I would have preferred chicken chunks rather than shredded chicken on the pizza because it tastes like Costco's rotisserie chicken. I wouldn't order the bbq chicken again but am open to try another flavor. The manager was very sweet and energetic, and she even offered us a complimentary chocolate chip cookie to try! I tried Pitfire today for the first time, via UberEats delivery. Not sure I really had expectations (maybe thinking it'd be something like Blaze?). I was pleasantly surprised. Pitfire makes delicious and unique artisan-style pizza! First things first: the pizza size is generous. I thought they maybe made small 8" personal size pizzas based on menu pics, so I ordered one each for myself and my wife. I was surprised when 13" pizzas arrived. The packaging was great, and the crust, toppings, and texture were all high quality and complemented each other well. You can't create your own pizza (not on UberEats, at least), so all the pizzas are their creations. I'd say the crust was thicker on the edges vs something like Blaze. The center was thinner, like a Neo pizza but this wasn't a Neo. Secondly, the menu rocks. They have unique pizzas to pick from, pastas, salads, desserts, large sharable portion options and more. The Illuminati pizza logo outside of the building has always attracted my attention whenever I drive by so I decided to finally stop by and give it a try. I order the field mushroom, sausage party and baked mac n cheese for pick up. Both pizzas and the mac n cheese were flavorful. My only minor complaint is the portion of the mac n cheese that was put in the to go box was a bit underwhelming. Overall, I enjoyed it and would come back again. read more

When Pitfire opened in this location my excitement level was palpable. I remember when it was Sizzlers. I had been previously driving to the North Hollywood location. The variety of dining options and great service in the early years were worth the frequent visits. I've noticed over the past year the service experienced at this location has declined significantly. Every time I place an in person order with a rotating list of staff it's as if ordering is a burden. I have ordered catering for work events,brought friends and colleagues. Today's experience left much to be desired, as I placed the order I let the cashier know I checked in on yelp for the 10% and showed her my phone, she immediately quips "is it a screenshot?" I perplexed state it's the yelp platform you can see it here, she then volunteered that she did not know how to apply the discount and went to get a manager. The is it a screenshot comment was bizarre. Fast forward 30 minutes I'm now watching other to go orders receive their meals ahead of me, I was told they prepared the wrong item and were now making the replacement. But this information was only provided after I patiently inquired. As a fan of the chicken & meatball pasta dish, I am not a fan of receiving attitude as a side dish. When I was provided my meal the manager begrudgingly threw a "cookie" inside no apology no explanation. I will also be writing a letter to the corporate offices as today's experience was unbelievable. read more

Really love Pitfire and have been to their North Hollywood location numerous times. This was our first time in Pasadena and it was delicious just the same. Mushroom pizza is our favorite and I think two people can share. Nice, chewy dough. The space is also big and great for families! read more

Great food. The pizzas were chewy ( good thing) and crunchy on on the outer crust. Loved the sauce and chicken meatballs. We didn't finish the 3 meatballs with two people. We paid the extra $5 to fill up our wine glass but probably should have seen a normal pour first. Decent wine selection with all Major varieties. The service was friendly and fast. However the table bussing was way way behind. With limited seating this only left two tables for us to choose and none outside - the only reason I pulled back a star. They are doing social distancing and wiping down after customers. I have would recommend and come back the next time I am I. Pasadena. read more

Update: Okay, tried PFP again today because I was jonesing for pizza. Gluten free crust is still the best. However, I thought because I ordered a margarita pizza last time I got blobby vegan cheese, which I did not order this time...thinking I may get shredded vegan cheese, wrong. The only vegan cheese they have is the blob which isn't really the experience I want because you end up with (see pic) tomato bread basically. And for $2.50 PER additional topping, I got like 10 pepperonis and 7 pieces of sausage. Pretty lame. The hunt for a go-to pizza spot continues. read more

The mushrooms assortment was enough. It probably would have gotten more stars had i left the chicken off the pizza. The chicken ruined it because it was dry and over cooked. I run a music school just a few miles away from Pitfire Pasadena and yesterday, we ordered a few pizzas in celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week and one of them came out "a little extra crispy." Not only did they re-make that pizza on the house before I even showed up to pick it up, they also let me keep the "extra crispy" one, which was still delicious and honestly a huge hit with the staff. Pitfire is a good pizza shop. You order at the front and your food and drinks are served to your table. The staff here is very friendly and the restaurant is very spacious. The items are a bit pricy for me, but they have different options for vegans and lactose intolerant diners, which helps my nephew. First time visit. It was a weekday. The pizza was fine. There wasn't anything special about it, but it was good. I am glad the bottom was not burnt as previous reviews had shown black crusts. The best part of the meal was the side salad that I got with the shallot vinaigrette. I also wanted some ranch for the salad. Little did I know that asking for ranch would be considered a dipper, and I was charged $2! I felt I should be told that it was a $2 up charge. The craft draft I had was Eagle Rock Belgian white. It was good. The true reason for the 3 stars was the state of the tables. Every single booth that had been occupied before and while we were there were never bused. I only saw one person bus one table in the hour or so I was there. It was gross to look around at all the dirty tables. I am figuring they were short staffed, but they were not too busy to keep the place clean. Not sure I'll be back. I would go if someone wanted to, but probably would not go out of my way to return. Recently discovered Pitfire Artisian Pizza and honestly where have you been all my life?! I'm a huge mushroom lover and their Fieldwork Mushroom is TOP NOTCH. I love how their crust isn't too thin or too hard, it's doughy and soft that it's easy to eat! Another spot that makes bomb mushroom pizza is CPK Wild mushroom (absolutely loveee). I've also tried their Honey Bear (added mushroom) and the Pizza Party. The honey bear was good especially if you like Mariana sauce. [Review #530] 2020 Yelp 100 Challenge (35/100) I spent most of the day taking care of my brother after his medical appointment so he "paid" me with a meal from Pitfire Artisan Pizza. We called in for pick-up; I chose a side of FIRE ROASTED CAULIFLOWER (mint, butter, red chili) & THE BURRATA (caramelized onion, arugula, pesto, hazelnuts), & my bro wanted ZOE's PEPPERONI (pepperoni, tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil), & LINGUINI BOLOGNESE (spinach linguini, housemade ragu). His place is about 15-mins. away so we left right after ordering & only had to wait a couple of minutes after our arrival. Like most restaurants that decide to stay open for takeout or delivery, the dining room looks immaculate & desolate. ( T __ T ) The cashier/server looked a bit worn but still kept a cheerful demeanor. We made sure to tip well... even during the best of times, this industry is rough, & I would know since I've been in it for more than a decade, starting as a child helping my Dad's restaurant with dining room set-up. The drive home was challenging with the delicious smell wafting from the trunk & my stomach growled in anticipation to sink my teeth into a slice. I'm either tired from the housework, starved (lunch was more than 6 hours ago), or both, but the scents were wreaking havoc on my senses. I drove as quickly & safely as I could, likely the traffic god was lighting my way, providing mostly green lights en route home. =) The food didn't even make it to the table as I grabbed a slice once I crossed the threshold. The pie was still rather hot so I noshed on it carefully to avoid burning my mouth. Aaaugh... this pizza is freakin' fantabulous! Crisp, thin crust, generous sauce without damaging the crust's integrity, creamy melt-in-your-mouth burrata, sweet caramelized onions, peppery bites of arugula, layered pesto for depth of flavor, & crunchy hazelnuts for texture makes for an especially yummy pizza. The roasted cauliflower was also quite delicious & has a nice little kick at the end from the red chilies. I ate it mostly as a standalone, & I also cut some into smaller pieces to add on top of the pizza. Soooooo, soooooo good! =) I exchanged a slice for the pepperoni pizza. Classic flavors, & done well. My only issue with the food is that it's substantially greasy. In fact, there was so much oil from the pizza boxes that it stained the coffee table with it. :-| Luckily it was glass so it cleaned off easily. Service was prompt & friendly. Bright & spacious dining room that I can imaging being bustling with lunch & dinner crowds. Most restaurants in or around Old Town Pasadena do not have private lot so it's a surprise to see Pitfire's, which is located behind the restaurant. I'm not sure of the going rate for individual pies, but our total for just the 2 of us seems pricey. Unlike Chef Silverton's famed pizza joint in Hancock Park, that's an artisan pizza worth every cent minus the grease. Yeah. I still like this pizza place, & I probably won't go out of my way to eat here (it's over an hour drive for me) unless I'm visiting my brother. But for the locals with stay-at-home cravings, add a little fire to your lunch or dinner plans with some yummy pizzas from Firepit Artisan Pizza. I gave it one star for poor service. After waiting 40 minutes for my food, I just gave up. My friend had already finished their meal and mine wasn't even ready to be served. They gave me a refund but nothing else. A gift certificate would have been a nice gesture but it wasn't offered. I even left an 18% tip on the total bill. My friend decided to plan a get-together at Pitfire for a large group of us - there was actually way more people who ended up coming, so our large party took up two long tables. She primarily chose this location because of the convenient style of ordering at the counter - very similar to fast food, except they bring the food out to you once it's ready. You don't have to worry about paying at the end or splitting checks, etc. This restaurant specializes in pizzas, sandwiches, and pastas - similar to Stonefire Grill. Menu has a good list of set choices, but they also switch it up every so often with seasonal favorites. I ordered the pesto chicken pizza - $12 for 11". Pizza can come folded or unfolded, and if you check-in on Yelp, you get a small discount. I thought the pesto chicken was alright. There's four cheese, basil, and red onion as well as chicken. Taste was a little underwhelming, but it wasn't too bad. I think after eating one slice, the taste was a little redundant and needed some sort of kick. Pizza was quite oily and there was really nothing special about the overall taste. I tried the Field Mushroom, and the flavor of that was also very similar to the Pesto. Maybe because of the way the pizzas are all cooked, but all of the ingredients kind of blended together. Another person ordered the Honey Bear pizza and thought that was a flop. Shaved kale salad ($11) wasn't bad - good taste and there was enough dressing throughout the dish that I didn't feel like the vegetables were too dry. They also have a bar area for drinks as well as an open kitchen. Workers were super friendly despite us being a large table. The several friends who ordered beers were happy with their drinks. This place is great for large parties though, with a ton of space. I think they even let you rent out the seating area if you want to host an event. tl;dr - Food is alright. Oh my. Where do I begin?! so we ordered two small pizzas one thin crust with sausage and pineapple. There was a total of 10 pieces of sausage and very little pineapple. WTH??? Hubby ordered cauliflower crust with sausage and pepperoni. The crust is so soft with no crisp at all then on top of everything we order a large Pellegrino sparkling natural water $12 water.
