Finally made it here, and Im so glad I did. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating. You can order at one of the self-service kiosks or directly with a staff member. Since a family was using the kiosk when we arrived, one of the employees happily took our order. She was friendly, patient, and answered all of our questions without making us feel rushed. I ordered the chicken katsu curry, and it was a solid choice. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying juicy inside, and it came with a comforting bowl of miso soup. They are incredibly generous with the rice--seriously, it's a huge portion! My only minor critique is that I would have loved a little more curry to match the amount of rice. We also ordered a side of potato salad, which ended up being one of my favorite bites. It was creamy, flavorful, and the portion was large enough to share. To drink, I had the matcha cream latte. It comes unsweetened, but there's a convenient self-service station stocked with simple syrup, utensils, napkins, and to-go containers so you can customize it however you like. One thing to note is that it's a self-bus restaurant, so after your meal you'll return your tray and dispose of your trash. Delicious Japanese desserts here! My friend and I came here for dessert after dinner and our experience here was great. We shared two of the parfaits: -Matcha Mochi Parfait: Our favorite of the two parfaits we shared. I admire that you can actually taste the matcha flavor here and it's not diluted. I loved the soft and chewy texture of the mochi pieces. -Black Sesame Warabimochi Parfait: This one was great as well and I enjoyed the nutty sesame flavor. The warabimochi was also chewy and nice to eat. I enjoyed the different textures and components in both parfaits. Everything went together from the crunchy cereal to the bouncy jellies. Great desserts for sharing and the pricing is pretty decent. We went later at night, so we didn't need to wait in line and our order came out relatively quickly. We had the: *Black Sesame Warabimochi Parfait (Black sesame pudding, sesame ice cream, vanilla soft serve, corn flakes, sesame bean paste, warabimochi (jelly mochi), whipped cream) - I honestly like the green tea one better but it was late so I wanted no caffeine. I also should've ordered the mochi version as the warabimochi was just OK. *Sukiyaki Don (thinly sliced beef, leek, shimeji mushrooms, tofu in soy sauce broth, soft boiled egg, rice) - this was very tasty - not as sweet as I expected it to be in a positive way. I came to Nana's Green Tea in Pasadena after the hype had calm down. This is Nana's Green Tea's first company-owned cafe in the US. You order via a kiosk. We got the curry katsu-don (breaded pork chop rice with curry sauce ) and the sukiyai don (sweet and savory beef bowl). I wish the rice dish was hotter temperature wise. It was a bit cold. I prefer my rice dishes hot. I got the regular iced matcha with oatmilk and it tasted fine. To be honest, it wasn't better than any other matcha I have had at a reputable coffee/tea shop. The food was ok too. I also got the green tea ice cream with rice balls and red bean in a waffle cone. The rice balls weren't very soft. This was also kind of underwhelming. The cafe is cute and the concept is also endearing. The food, drinks and desserts all landed a bit flat. Don't expect exceptional green tea or really yummy Japanese food. Go in expecting average food and drinks, then you won't be disappointed! The ambiance is ok too; not modern or inspiring or Japandi (which I was hoping). It is simple and causal. Some of the tables were kind of dirty because it is a self-service concept. You have to put away your own dirty dishes and trays as well at the end. There's plenty of seating but I can see how it'll get pack. It's really chill inside and casual. It's a good place for a meetup with friends or doing some work. This place has been on my list to try and I was so excited to see no line! I ordered the matcha parfait and an iced matcha latte for both my husband and I. Once you order, you head towards the dining room area where there is plenty of seating. I really enjoy the large windows that let in so much sunlight! But NGT does have a good serving portion of the matcha parfait than Kansha Creamery. Nonetheless, I did enjoy it. HOJICHA FLOAT WITH MOCHI (With a scoop of hojicha ice cream and mochi) This was very disappointing. Not sweetened, so you have to add simple syrup that is provided at one of the stations. It looked nice, but all of the ingredients felt separate rather than working together. The mochi, cream, regular ice cream, and matcha ice cream each tasted fine on their own, but it did not feel like one complete dessert. I've been wanting to come here for weeks now since their soft opening. I finally stopped by on a Saturday around 1pm and there was surprisingly no line. I ordered the hojicha soft serve with warabimochi and mochi balls. The ice cream was satisfying and smooth, but I felt like it lacked that rich hojicha taste I was craving. For reference, I love Midori Matcha's hojicha soft serve and see that as my gold standard. The toppings were delicious though! Both mochis were delightfully soft and chewy. Staff was very friendly. It also felt like kiosk orders may have been moving faster than register orders, though that could have just been the timing. The space itself is a big plus. Ambiance: this place is a FANTASTIC place to come if you're looking for a place to study, hangout, or chill. They have a ton of seating inside WITH AC. They also provide free wifi and have a restroom to use. They have plenty of outlets to charge as well as a self serve station with stared, napkins, simple syrup pumps, water, and togo boxes. It can get pretty loud when it's busy but if you don't mind it, it's perfect background noise in addition to the music they play! Drinks: they probably have the most different kinds of matcha drinks I have ever seen. From regular matcha drinks, to parfaits, lattes, and ice cream they have so many to choose from. The size of the drinks are large and lets you customize the sweetness yourself with the simple syrup pumps at the self serve station. I got the matcha float, which came with matcha ice cream (this was so so good) and 3 mochi balls (decent). We also got the matcha latte float (just which it was blended a bit more, it was a bit too watery). Service: the staff were very nice and helpful. When the wrong drink was made they made sure to fix it no questions asked! Overall a fantastic experience and would definitely go again to study and hangout! read more

GOOD MATCHA LATTE AND VERY GOOD SOFT SERVE ===================================== My first visit was on the weekend and I just kept driving because the line was around the block. Apparently they were giving away free teapots for the first 100 customers. I am so glad I didn't wait. Then I decided it would be better visiting on a weekday because Old Town is less of a zoo on weekdays. There was still a line with about ten people ahead of me and it took about a half an hour to make it to the one iPad for ordering. I had some problems using the iPad to order and of course there was no staff member to help. I don't usually add sweetener, but you need to specify no sweetener or the whole order will crap out and I you have to start again. There was a line out the door behind me and I am lucky I did not get jumped for taking too long. Then I waited for another half hour to get my order. I sat down to enjoy the soft serve and it was very good. I drink matcha lattes quite regularly and as I mentioned above I don't add sweetener. Big mistake on this order as a little sweetener would have offset the earthiness of the matcha. My daughter-in-law has told me many times that matcha tastes like dirt. Sometimes it kind of does. If I was rating the things I ordered alone it would have been four stars. The annoying iPad and slow service killed a star for me. read more

My family and I came a few weeks after their grand opening and the wait was significantly reduced thankfully. We ordered the chicken nanban plate, chicken katsu curry, and chicken karage for lunch. All of the dishes were surprisingly tasty despite Nana's being known mainly for their matcha! We also had to order a matcha parfait with mochi as this is their specialty. Having just recently having Nana's in Japan, I can say that the parfait tastes exactly the same which is another bonus. All in all, a nice addition to the Pasadena area with nice lunch/dinner options and a delicious array of matcha products! read more

No wait on Friday 9pm. There's only 1 order kiosk inside but you can also go to the counter (which is preferable coz you can order extra toppings or ice cream on the side.) I got the #1 matcha parfait and black sesame ice cream on the side -- both unique to Nana's only. At $12 + $2.50 side it's very good value when you compare it to higher prices at places like Oakobing and Meet Fresh. What could be better? pick up some yummy mango desserts from Delight Bakery next door and enjoy them with Nana's matcha concoctions. No one has mentioned, but I LOVE their cute and super lightweight chairs! read more

I came to this place just for the parfait! And honestly, it was the best green tea parfait I ever had. Before rating it, I would like to day its pretty expensive $13+. I think we paid like $18 and the ice cream on the side is obviously optional but it felt like the ice cream scoop was too small so we wanted more. (Side ice cream I like the hojicha more than the black sesame.) The was a lot of seating and it was clean. Not much to say about the interior, it was regular seating it would be cute if they decorated more. Nothing much about service because I ordered on the kiosk. You return the trays to a side bar area kind of like cafeteria style. If you are shy or not wanting social interaction I mean this is great lol. First of all, the parfait looks sooo cute! Such a pretty parfait! The green tea ice cream is as creamy and had a strong tea flavor, very nice. All the ice creams had very strong flavors which I like. The mochi was my favorite topping, it was chewy and soft and was so good along with the ice cream. The corn flakes was as good as it gets, its a very common thing in parfaits. The green tea jelly in the bottom was really good and I was so sad that I finished eating it! They use really great quality ingredients so while I understand the price, it is still definitely a little expensive. I had parfaits this price with way more ice cream and cake so I do feel like it is pricy for this. I wish they gave bigger scoops of ice cream. Each ice cream scoop was $2 and I was shocked at how small the scoops were. That is my only concern :( read more

I was super excited that Nana's opened in Pasadena. I've had it in Japan and Hawaii before and it was always good. Came by the other night around 8pm after dinner and got lucky with no wait. I ordered the green tea parfait with warabimochi and added mochi balls. The parfait was really good. Sweet in a balanced way with a mix of ice cream, cream, and red beans. I also liked that they added corn flakes which gave it a nice crunch and made the textures more interesting. The mochi was nice and chewy too. Overall it was a great dessert and I'm excited to come back and try more items. They also have savory options on the menu which I didn't get to try yet. By the time we left the line was out the door, so the hype is definitely building. read more
