Minimalist bubble tea shop in Pasadena that is known for their hojicha and matcha based drinks. It has a pretty quiet and calm atmosphere, making it a cozy spot to hang out. My husband and I both really enjoyed the drinks. I would recommend the following: The Onyx Hojicha Milk Tea is a mix of Taiwan onyx black tea with hojicha charcoal roasted tea and house milk. It had a roasted, nutty, smoky, and creamy flavor profile. I am a big fan of how it tasted - more elevated than your typical milk tea. Brown sugar boba paired perfectly with this drink. The Oreo Uji Matcha is made with ceremonial-grade matcha imported from Japan, house milk, house cream, and crushed oreos. It tasted sweet, rich, and slightly earthy. The flavor of the oreo cookies balanced out the matcha in a good way. It was also delicious with brown sugar boba.
sadly I was pretty disappointed with my drink The staff is very friendly and recommended the blended matcha. I figured I go for it since I'm always looking for new places to get matcha. It looks like a great drink and has great color, and the first few sips I really liked the rich smoothie like texture. But as I kept drinking all the ice chunks came out and it turned into an melting icy drink. The matcha also had good flavor but it wasn't blended well, there was a ton of unmixed matcha powder throughout the drink so every sip was dried out with the matcha powder. Overall, it just wasn't a great drink or something I would come back for
Was in the area and decided to stop by for some drinks since I haven't been here in a couple years. They have really cool interior decor and seating is comfortable for casual chatting with friends. I ordered the Mango Cloud this time less sweet (7.42), and also the Matcha Blend. The price has went up a bit since the last time I was here but the cup is still the same size. The drinks took around 5 minutes or so to be ready. The mango cloud is as good as other reviews said. There is mango chunks in the drink and it is blended very well so it is a smoothie consistency. It also has some cream but I couldn't really taste it. I got less sweet so the sweetness level was perfect for me. I enjoyed the drink and my only complaint is the price but all drinks are around this price especially for fruit blended ones. I would recommend it if you're not looking for a matcha drink, but their matcha blend was also good as well with authentic matcha.
I was in the area so stopped by for a drink. There was no wait to order and staff was patient when my card was having issues during payment. There's no public restroom but there's some seating inside. I got the hoji matcha cloud ($7.45) at less sweet. The price has gone up since the last time I've been here, which is expected. I think it's still decent for the price at the cup size. The matcha is pretty strong but still has some sweetness.
I've ended up at Hoji more times than I planned, mostly because every other boba shop is already closed. I appreciate the late hours, and the drinks are pretty good too. Nothing extraordinary and certainly on the pricey end ($7+ per drink), but I'm willing to pay the premium for the hour.
Came by HOJI Tea Community while I was up around Pasadena and found a nice little shop. I really like the super minimalist and industrial look that they're going for inside! Street parking is a little limited, at least from where I chose to be, but it's not that much of a walk so I didn't mind it. I got an Oreo Uji Matcha and I found it to be pretty good. I didn't mind that it tasted pretty similar to other Oreo matcha drinks, and it was what I was going for. It kind of reminds me of the Oreo Brulee from Omomo, so if you like that drink, I think you'd also enjoy this one. Overall recommend!!
The interior of this tea shop was such a vibe, it was clean, nicely decorated and picturesque. It would be a nice place to sip some tea and study or do remote work. The staff who took our order was nice too. My friends and I stopped by after lunch to get drinks, I only tried the Ice Hoji Matcha, but my friends enjoyed their drinks. The drink I've had was good, it had a nice balance of bitterness from the matcha and sweetness from the milk/cream mixture. I would come back and just hang out for a bit next time that I'm in the area.
I've tried the Hoji Matcha and the Jaded Petal Milk tea. So far the matcha is my favorite. I like that the menu is small as it's not overwhelming and I can easily try all the flavors over a period of time. Nice place to take your laptop and chill while you drink your tea and friendly service.
Hojitea is so fun to get drinks at! It's located in the same lot as the outdoor Afters, with street parking most likely available. The decor and lighting inside is modern chic, with tables for both small and big groups. I immediately noticed how cozy the interior was, and the times I've been here, people often came here to study or hangout. Staff is kind and service has always been fast. There's a variety of tea I've gotten from here: -Oreo Uji Matcha -Hoji Iced Matcha -Japan Hojicha Blend -Jaded Petal Milk Tea -Taiwan Toffee Milk Tea -Jaded Petal Milk Tea I've loved them all and really appreciate the variety of tea base they have here compared to here tea spots. The tea is high quality, and I will definitely keep coming back for more! I gotta try the rest of the menu! :9
I really wanted to like this spot and was looking forward to coming here, but I'm wondering if maybe I came during an off day. HOJI Tea is known to be one of the best boba shops in Pasadena, and periodically goes viral on social media for its minimalist wabi-sabi aesthetic and beautifully colorful drinks. I stopped by on a weekday afternoon, and there was one person working at the counter. He helped answer my questions about the drinks patiently and was able to get them out without too long of a wait. *Onyx Hojicha Milk Tea: This was my favorite of the three, but their recommended sweetness was too bitter for me, so overall, it's not a drink I fully enjoyed. I couldn't taste the hojicha much, and as someone who loves a good hojicha latte, I would go elsewhere for that craving. *Mango Fruit Jade Tea: I was surprised by how opaque this drink was and thought it would be more tea-forward. The texture was thicker than expected and had mango pieces at the bottom. We were told it would be sweet and refreshing, but it leaned very sour. Maybe mangoes weren't in season at the time? I would just be cautious with ordering this, especially if you have GERD or acid reflux with how sour it was. *Fresh Grape & Lychee Jade Tea: I was hoping this one would have a nice natural sweetness of the fruits complementing the tea, but overall it tasted like I was drinking a candle. It was almost bland, but like in a waxy, perfumey way. Maybe it was the thick texture, but I've had grape and lychee-based drinks before at other boba shops and they didn't taste like this. I feel terrible admitting that I really couldn't finish it, as it seems to be a popular choice with some. You'll need to do street parking to reach this spot. There's plenty of non-ergonomic seating inside, where I could be fine sitting and catching up with friends, but I wouldn't survive trying to work here. The biggest plus for me is that it really was beautiful when we came in, with how the sunset lit up the place and how the interior was designed. I wonder if we just came in on an off day or something for the drinks, and would stop by if I'm already in the area to give this place another shot.
Was craving something sweet and hubby took me here for a drink. I was craving something fruity and got the fresh fruit cloud, mango. I actually really enjoyed it. Not too sweet and the mango chunks were pretty good, ripe enough and not bitter. My husband got the matcha latte, which was subpar. I do recall coming here a while ago and getting the Oreo matcha drink and was not impressed. Seems like the fruit teas are much better than the matcha drinks. The interior was super cuter and very aesthetically pleasing. It's pretty spacious inside. Kitchen is tucked away so there was no one there to greet us when we entered. It took some time but someone finally came out to take our order. She was very kind. The parking lot is very small but there is street parking.

I got the fresh strawberry cloud with less sugar but it's a bit disappointing. I do like they use real strawberries but the overall taste is a bit bland. I barely taste any creaminess in this drink, which was what I was initially hoping for. Also, since they only have a few staff, you do have to wait a bit to get your orders in but staff are friendly! Easy street parking nearby!
This was a super small tea cafe right next to Afters Ice Cream They're open daily 12pm-10pm Parking was pretty difficult since their parking lot is super tiny but there are street parking if you're lucky Service was ok and nothing special Inside had limited seating but the decor was very cool! Menu had a good variety of milk tea, iced, and blended drinks but expect to pay $7+ for most of the drinks! Add-ons are an additional $0.75 and they do sugar/ice adjustments! Hoji Iced Matcha with Boba ($6.95 + $0.75 - topping) Got it less sweet and less ice and it was pretty disappointing. The matcha tasted flavorless and it was way too creamy. The boba was very soft and chewy so that was enjoyable.. However, I wasn't impressed with the drink and I had high expectations since I saw a lot of good reviews. This was 6/10 Overall, I most likely won't recommend or return unfortunately

Cute interior but not many tables if you wanted to go here to study. I really enjoyed their menu options as someone who can't pick between fruit drinks or milk tea. I think it had such good combos and good variety. I got the peach mango blended and it was really good, more on the yogurt side. Would love to come back and try their other drinks! read more
small tea shop in Pasadena, seem like a nice little shop to do work in as they have free Wi-Fi. They have some seating but mostly just seats by the wall. Aesthetics in the shop is pretty nice, very modern and bright, perfect spot to do work. Parking - Shared with Afters Ice Cream right across, very small parking lot, 4 spots only. Street parking is available but the street itself is a one way street. My wife and I both shared the Onyx Hojicha MT and the Oreo Uji Matcha, both were very refreshing as the day was pretty warm. The drinks came out pretty fast as well so props to the staff for preparing them quickly. The matcha is not very overwhelming which is always a good sign to see when you purchase matcha drinks. Oreo mixed with matcha is always a solid choice for me so I recommend this drink when you visit. Overall, a very simple but high quality shop, it's a bit on the expensive side when it comes to tea shops but it's definitely worth checking them out as their drinks are on the higher quality side. read more

I wasn't expecting to stumble across this gem, but I'm thrilled I did! The fresh grape and lychee jade tea as well as the mango cloud were really refreshing and flavorful drinks; specifically, the mango cloud has a nice combination of cream and tropical mango while the fresh grape and lychee jade tea has the fruity grapes in the light base of sharp and herbal green tea. Our drinks came out quickly and the place itself is tucked around a block on Green Street near Afters Ice Cream. The shop is a casual but modern setting that almost reminds of a beachy oasis lounge. My friends and I stopped by on a Monday around 3pm and we were able to easily find 1 hour street parking. The space is small with a chill vibe, people were working on their laptops, playing cards, and hanging out with friends. The cashier was kind and walked us through the popular items. I ordered the Fresh Peach Mango which comes blended with mango bits and I added boba. It was so good and refreshing! Next time I visit I want to try one of their matcha drinks! read more
Yelp community comes through with this highly rated matcha tea house! We got the strawberry matcha milk and the grape/lychee tea - both were 5/5 for me and the jade mountain tea flavor really came across - I actually had a audible gasp of appreciation on the tea quality! Both drinks were ordered least sweet so the matcha and jade mountain wouldn't be masked. Service was polite, friendly and efficient. The drinks were made super quickly! Love that I can taste fresh fruit bits in the drinks - no lame strawberry jam or extra price for fruit puree here! I can still taste the tea well after finishing it, great sign! Ambiance is earthy minimalist- exposed brick, neutral clay/concrete palate, with mix of hard/soft edges throughout. The interior is honestly beautifully designed with surprise details everywhere I looked like the cloud pendant lights. read more
The interior is really nice, it's on the smaller side. Since it was the weekend in the late afternoon finding street parking wasn't very hard. The staff was friendly. Fresh grape & lychee jade tea - 1/5, I didn't enjoy the mouth feel from the fruit in this drink. The taste was fine, but not amazing. Jade petal milk tea - 1/5, the tea taste wasn't very strong and it didn't taste very good. We didn't make a sweetness adjustment and it was quite bitter. read more

I also tried their Jaded Petal Milk Tea which was also pretty good. I came in a Sunday afternoon so it was a bit busy. I did have to wait at least 20 minutes for my drinks. read more

Great matcha! 8/10 my favorite drink spot in Pasadena Firstly, this place is beautiful! The interior is decorated and built in a chic and minimalistic way. Great for pictures and vibes. The cashiers are always super friendly, kind, and casual. There is parking on the side street around and the store is in front of a cute outdoor / vintage looking after's ice cream stand. The drinks are all very good! They have milk teas and thicker smoothie drinks, I love getting the Oreo matcha :) prices are very reasonable aswell. -free street parking' -select seating mainly for hanging out not for working -sells drinks only read more
The hoji iced matcha was delicious! So creamy I was not expecting that! Could not get enough. But I thought the brown sugar boba was not as good. They felt a little hard/plastic-y. I'll definitely come back for tea but will probably skip the boba. Such a cute place and there is plenty of street parking. Highly recommend! read more

Stopped here for a boba yesterday afternoon and got the Hojicha Milk Tea. Flavors were good but they only have three sweetness levels, "less" is the lowest sweetness, and I usually get zero sweetness. Staff were friendly and efficient. The interior is very clean and surprising. Plenty of parking in the area. read more
Aesthetically pleasing inside and the AC is blasting! We beat the afternoon rush and ordered 4 drinks! Toffee Milk Tea: A bit too sweet even at 25% for us but it was uniquely good! I think this one tastes better with a topping added but we got it plain. Onxy Hojicha: Really good roasted tea flavor, not too heavy on the hojicha and it was perfect at 25% sweet. Grape and Lychee Tea: Similar to Heytea fruit teas, and it came with real fruit bits. Really refreshing and the combo of the fruits pair so well together. Highly recommend! Hoji Thai Tea w/ Boba: Our least favorite drink, it was pretty mid and the boba wasnt that good. At 25% it was still too sweet. Wouldnt recommend or get again. Better off buying a regular thai tea bottle or can at the asian grocery store! Overall I think their fruit teas might taste better than the milky ones, but I see myself coming back here! Service was friendly, but parking was a bit hard to find during busy times. Please add actual sturdy carriers, the two handle ones aren't functional and break easily. read more

Interior: clean, cool vibes aesthetic to hang out, good for medium/small size groups Wait Time: none, it was not busy at all on a weekday evening. Drinks took about 5-10min to make. Items Order: 8.5/10 Blended Hoji Matcha $7 - matcha quality was good but I think it could be stronger. The creaminess was excellent and salted perfectly but also could use more since you only taste the salted cream in the side. Sweetness was perfectly not too sweet. 7.5/10 Hoji Thai Tea $6 - same comments for the salted cream but the Thai tea itself was a bit off from what I'm used to for Thai tea. Went to this new boba shop recently and the drinks were beyond good. The cashier Ailish was super bubbly and helpful. The drink i got was the classic HOJI blended matcha, which if you're into matcha I more than recommend (I'm definitely even craving it now). The person I went with got the Uji Matcha with Sweet Cream, which has hints of mint. Boba quality is great as I sampled some from the Uji Matcha. The decor is amazing, making it the nicest looking boba shop I've ever been. If i could give 10 stars, I would. read more
Hoji Tea features a nice, earthy environment to lounge around in, with many accents of beige and brown. I had their Jaded Petal Milk Tea, which featured a mix of oolong, green, and house milk tea for a unique combination. This place came recommended as the best boba around here, and since they knew the boba scene in Irvine, they told me this place was the closest thing and super competitive. That immediately got my attention because Irvine boba is elite. Pulled up to Hoji and the shop itself is beautiful. Super modern, clean, the plaster walls and whole design are just sick. The vibe alone sells it. The staff was really sweet too. I asked which drink they recommended and she told me to get the Mango Cloud with boba. I am so glad I listened. Before I even ordered, she was handing out little sample cups of their jasmine tea boba which was actually really good. That already gave me confidence. The Mango Cloud that thing was amazing. There were huge chunks of mango in there, the boba was perfect, and the drink itself had this airy, slushy, cloud type texture that was really fun. The mango flavor was so clean and not overly sweet. Just the right balance. I destroyed that drink. I finished it before I even made it to my destination which was literally four minutes away. That is how good it was. I wish this place was closer because I would definitely want to try their other drinks. But for my first experience, it was a total hit. I would absolutely recommend this place. read more
Today was the grand opening for Hoji Tea Community and it seems like the whole boba tea community came to the event. The line was wrapped around the store and down the sidewalk with tons of people lining up to take advantage of the BOGO drink special and the Labubu dolls giveaway. Although it was quite a wait to order and to get your drinks, it was worth it especially when you get one for free. Staff were very friendly despite them being very busy making drinks. Even the owner was helping making drinks. Thanks Hoji for a great grand opening! I hope you will have more special events in the future. read more
