Mandarin Orange Coffee & Cafe is a small spot in Pasadena, and the size definitely affects the overall experience. The cafe is located in a long indoor area and love the feel of the hallway. There was a line when I visited, which at first gives the impression that the place is extremely popular and in high demand. But I think the line is partly a result of the limited number of people who can be inside at one time, along with the amount of time it takes to prepare the drinks. The menu is also fairly limited, so there aren't a ton of options to choose from. That said, I really enjoyed the Yin-Yang Coffee + Tea. It's a unique combination and probably the drink that stood out the most to me. I also got a chai latte and a matcha donut. Came in on a Saturday morning around 10:00 am. It wasn't busy at all. Parking: you can park on the lot for up to 90 minutes free. Drink: I ordered the Iced Toasty. 3.5/5. For the price and taste, this drink was alright. My drink tasted more sour which I wasn't a big fan of. I know it is in Pasadena and the prices are up there, but for the value it is on the lower side. I would have to come back to try another drink to see if they are better. read more

Mandarin Coffee Stand has been on my radar for a while but it's a bit out of the way. Finally had a chance to try it though. It's in Burlington Arcade (which for my Ann Arbor folks is literally just like Nickels Arcade! except this one is weirdly empty - lots of empty storefronts) but, MCS is popping! I was a bit split on what to get because the Gui Hua latte has so many mixed reviews on Yelp. So, I went with my gut instead (and the caffeine fiend in me) and ordered the cold brew item of course. But theirs is so lovely - it was the Sicily ($6.25 - Ethiopian cold brew, orange blossom water, lemon juice, touch of raw sugar, lime zest). It drinks like a refreshing tonic BUT I love that they shake this beverage and then top it with fresh lime zest. Lovely. I also had the ham & cheese croissant and it was awesome. I was eyeing the miso kouign amann but opted out, I'll have to come back for it as well as some of their matcha options! read more

What a cute coffee spot! Located in this cool black building/alleyway called Burlington Arcade. I read that it is a reminiscent of historic London. Such a cute spot to get all your Instagram/social media content in. This is a grab n go kinda place especially since their capacity is only four customers allowed inside. But there are SOME tables & chairs located outside. Don't count on it if it's the weekend since it'll be busy and most likely they'll all be occupied. But on a weekday? Pure bliss and relaxation. My iced sea salt coconut latte was delicious and my sister enjoyed her iced matcha latte. Service was friendly and our drinks were made quickly. Nice location and good drinks. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was a steady flow of customers. The actual size of the cafe is pretty small so they allow about 4 customers inside at a time. We ordered the honey yuzu and the Uji matcha. They were both pretty good. The yuzu was refreshing and the matcha really had a strong depth of flavor. Actually for me it was a little too strong but I think maybe perfect for someone who likes a stronger matcha flavor. I will have to try their house matcha next time. Came here on a Sunday around 8:40am. There were about 8 people in front of us and it took about 10 minutes to get to the register. They only allow 4 people inside at a time so that explains why there's always a line. I've come before on the weekend around 11am and the line has been 15-20 people deep. The times I've been I've had the Matcha tonic, Iced Mocha and Gui Hua Latte (only comes hot). The Gui Hua latte solidified why this place is so hyped and deservingly so. The drinks are handcrafted, well made and have a unique flavor profile to them. My wife also ordered an iced Vienna Latte and that one is really good as well. The iced Matcha tonic is refreshing as it comes with a yuzu hit. We recently had the spinach croissant as well and we enjoyed it. Sometimes they carry @crumbsandflakesla pastries and those are to die for. The surrounding area near Mandarin coffee stand is also pretty unique it takes the vibe of alleys in London. There's no bar or table seating inside the coffee stand itself and they only allow a few people in at a time. Make sure to get here early or you could be waiting 20 minutes just to order. This place does live up to the hype and I'd say is one of the top 5, maybe even top 3 coffee spots in Pasadena. read more

I've been to Mandarin Coffee Stand a few times now and always leave satisfied! Every time I've gone on weekdays there has been a line, so I'd imagine it's even longer on weekends. If you own a Tesla, there is a supercharger location right in the parking lot so it makes for a good caffeination stop while charging your electric car. I've had the Toasty, Vienna Latte, Gui Hua Latte and Matcha Tonic with the Toasty being my favorite of the bunch that I keep coming back for. They have a bunch of pastry options that I want to try but they seem to sell out quite early! I have had the Sesame Pretzel croissant though and it was so fire - highly recommended! This was a very cute cafe in Pasadena. There is a line out of the door but the service is quick and the staff are nice. There are also lots of menus posted outside for you to browse while you wait. I came here to try their matcha after hearing a lot about this cafe, I tried their kettl matcha latte and was a bit disappointed unfortunately. I've tried kettl matcha latte's from their storefront, so I believe it was likely their ratios that seem to be off. As far as matchas go, it was pretty good here but for $10 it's a bit steep for something that's not perfect. I would come again to try their other drinks and pastries, however. I go out of my way to make a pitstop here. It is by far one of my favorite coffee shops to visit for create drinks that tie me back to flavors I grew up with. I usually like to take my drinks to go so I can grab a pain au chocolat at C.A.R down the street but sometimes I'll linger if a table opens up. They team up with different microbakeries on weekends to host popups, my fave being crumbs and flakes, so that keeps the pastry rotation interesting. I ordered the hojicha latte and it had a decently strong hojicha flavor but it was grainy. My friends ordered the matcha latte and matcha tonic and both were pretty good! I can see how the lattes can taste like pure milk with a splash of matcha powder since the powder settles a bit if you're not mixing it but overall it's not bad! Wouldn't say it's the best though. Costs around $7/$8 per drink so a bit on the pricier end. Service was excellent, I received my order within a couple minutes of ordering. There was a long line when I was there on a Sunday afternoon. There is some seating outside the store but no seating or area to drink inside. Only 4 people are allowed in the store at a time since they usually have long lines. This could be one of SoCals Finest Coffee Shops and I dont use that term lightly. Tucked in a covered, attractive "arcade", the only sign that says you have arrived is a small Postcard sized sign that says "Mandarin." The shop is small, take out only but there is covered seating just outside underneath a sunroof. A small sign says since the shop is small, only four folks allowed in the store at once. Once you order, good idea just to wait the short while until your order is up. There is a rope outside in case there is a line outside, and there usually is, since this is a gem of a place. Hours are 8 to 3pm Their mixologist produces creative, but flavorful drinks, without being over bearing, or silly or sweet. Small batched coffee from Guatemala and other parts around the world.. along with tea. All high quality and Ive tried both their whole bean coffee and Chai. The usual suspects of Pastries are in a clear case as you order in case you want something to go with your coffee tea. I always stick to the Matcha Tonic. There usually is a line, since the place is small inside, so be prepared to wait a bit. I ordered the iced Toasty and Sicily; umm ya likely has an acquired taste. The iced toasty is not overly sweet, or coffee forward... I would say oat milk forward with a burnt woodsy (toasty) flavor with a hint of cinnamon and a pinch of brown sugar. The Sicily, is similar to an Arnold Palmer with honey... just imagine a fancy Arnold Palmer with a delicate note of honey (not too sweet). Is it worth the drive and like? Because it's the best quality coffee and matcha in Pasadena Mandarin is a little coffee shop on Lake Ave in a cute decorated alleyway. There is always a line out the shop past 10:30 ish AM until closing in the early afternoon, but it's worth and honestly the line goes by fast. Their Vienna latte has my absolute favorite cream top. Their cream top is so good that I used to get it on top of my matcha (also fantastic!), but they actually stopped allowing the up charge for you to add their cream to the matcha. I wanted to love this place, I saw some reviews online raving about the matcha. Due to the small space, everyone waits outside until it's their time to order. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but in winter with some wind, that area functions like a wind tunnel and was freezing. The service was also quite slow, I appreciate the attention to detail, but when there's a long line outside it can be frustrating. I ordered the Matcha Latte and my friend ordered the chai latte. I like that non-dairy milk did not cost extra! I find their pricing to be very fair compared to other coffee shops around. The matcha latte was just okay, the matcha tasted dull. However, it was one of the prettiest matcha lattes I've had! My friend's chai latte was incredibly strong/spiced to the point she couldn't finish it as it was so concentrated at the bottom of the cup. I also got a pretzel croissant. Unfortunately their toaster oven caught fire according to the cashier so it was cold. Even cold, this was the highlight! The flakey croissant dough with a pretzel crust and salt was amazing. 11/25/2025 I got here around 2:10pm on a Tuesday. It closes at 3:00pm. I got here thinking there will be no lines, but when I got there, there were 6 people waiting in front of me and a few minutes later, 6 people were standing behind me. But the line moved rather quickly. GUI HUA LATTE (Served only hot) Smoky flavor overall, maybe from the espresso. Creaminess from the milk. As you drink it, you can taste the subtle gui hua flavors, however it is still too subtle to detect. I think the espresso masks the flavor a little too much. If it was a tea latte, it might have been better. The milk foam on top was very smooth and brought a beautiful milky flavor and mouthfeel. The dried osmanthus flower on top was a nice aesthetic touch and you can chew and taste it. Although chewing on dried petals is not pleasant, but it does bring more of that flavor through. I appreciated this drink, but probably happy to have tried it once. MANDARIN MOCHA (Seasonal) This was a seasonal drink. It tastes like orange chocolate in drink form. It was done well. Delicious! Smooth flavor too. Love the milk foam which they do really well here. Rich chocolatey flavor. Orange flavor was strong too. They used orange-cranberry marmalade and orange bitters and it really comes through beautifully! You also get the leftover chocolate and the leftover marmalade at the bottom of the cup. Not always pleasing to have that at the bottom of your cup, but the flavors were so good, I didn't mind too much. Recommend this drink! Try it before it's gone! SEATS + TABLES None inside. There is a small table and seats right outside of the shop, but they were right next to the line outdoors and it didn't feel like a cozy sit down area. The Burlington Arcade space has a pretty aesthetic at first glance compared to the other spaces surrounding the strip mall area. However, it still is a space that is not utilized very well. It's a small space and not a welcoming for those who want to enjoy their coffee. Unfortunate indeed. Hope they will find a way to add more tables and seats. Or better yet, find a new space! CUSTOMER SERVICE Good customer service. All the baristas were welcoming and chill too. Yet they made sure that the lines were formed outdoors and everyone got served. PARKING Free parking lot all in the same strip mall where Mandarin Coffee Stand is located. Even though it's a large parking lot, it is still packed! It was difficult finding parking. The parking spaces weren't wide and felt cramped parking next to other cars. Yet can't complain to free parking. Definitely want to return to try their other drinks. It seems their Vienna Latte is one of their popular items after the Gui Hua Latte. But I also want to try their hot drinks. Let me save you money... this place is not worth the hype you see on social media. I'm sorry but it's really not! I think if you're going just for the aesthetic aspect of it, then sure absolutely but if you're looking for your new regular coffee shop? Absolutely not. It's just mediocre. I was disappointed to be honest, since social media has hyped it up so much. I asked if it was sweet--the barista said the foam would be, but overall the drink itself wasn't very sweet. Personally, the coffee wasn't my favorite. I wouldn't go back for the Vienna specifically, but I might try something else because I am a foam person, and I feel like another drink might hit better. Now..the spinach and cheese croissant? Loved their AYR Jeju black tea! I liked that it had that deep roasted flavor and combined with a sweetener it had the perfect contrast of roasted and sweet. The matcha latte is probably one of the best in Pasadena - super earthy and rich in flavor without tasting clumpy over over-saturated. I've had the gui hua latte as well, but as someone who doesn't really like espresso I only got this once just to try it, and I did enjoy it. Their pastries are really good too, which I believe are sourced from a bakery. There's free 90 minute parking behind the structure. However, the room capacity of 4 people does make for a longer line than most other coffee shops. The interior is very classy, tastefully decorated and the baristas are very friendly! All their specialty espresso drinks are double shots. Their top sellers are their Toasty (a milk tea latte), Vienna Latte, and Matcha Latte. Almond and oat milk substitutions are free of charge! I opted for their matcha (iced & sweetened, with oat milk) this time for the lower caffeine amount, and for the price point ($7.25) I think this was an average drink. The drink is a little gritty and not too sweet (which I prefer), but for better quality matcha at the same price point, I would go elsewhere.
