Their whole theme is rock/stone themed, which sounds unconventional but is actually executed sophisticatedly. Their drinks are really unique and look super fancy, so this feels like an upscale place at coffee shop prices (well, slightly a little more expensive than the average, but not by much). Wow, I really loved my experience at Monolith Coffee! I've been meaning to try it, but I sometimes hesitate to try new coffee shops for fear that I will be disappointed. Not with Monolith Coffee, thankfully! I got an iced latte, and it was enjoyable. They roast their own coffee beans! How cool is that? It tastes like a medium roast. The decor inside is superb. It is so nicely decorated, you can tell a LOT of thought went into crafting this place. It was very busy, but I was able to snag a seat. I was able to read my book for a while, so it's a nice place to read even amidst the hum of conversations. I'd definitely return! WOW!!!! I LOVE this place. I was just in the area getting the best Pastrami from The Hat and was looking for a coffee place. It was right there, on the next block. Amazing coffee, and then coffee Mocktails! The place had such a nice hang calm feeling with space to work and talk, not loud but cozy. The staff, wow so nice and sweet it was at it should be kindness, with knowledge about the coffee and the drinks. I had some questions and they just gave me the time to enjoy and talk about the craft of what they were serving. Thankfully, they also have more reasonably priced options. The space is beautiful, calm, serene, and full of rocks. Apparently, my coffee budget is funding a small zen garden. There were plenty of people studying or working, and the staff can walk you through the drinks, ingredients, and where their coffee comes from. They also sell coffee to take home. You can tell there's thought behind the concept, and the experience is part of what you're paying for. I'd happily bring someone here for a fancy coffee date or to show them the space. I am always so excited to try out Monolith Coffee's seasonal drinks and collaboration items! They are the only cafe that I follow closely for updates on new releases and events. I can tell that they are dedicated to their craft; each and every item is always so well thought out. This time I got the Pankohi (Shokupan infused milk, Earl Grey, Calamansi, Coffee foam) which was a collaboration item with Ginza Nishikawa from Aug 22-23. The drink was presented beautifully - white, creamy milk, with a clear distinct layer of coffee foam, adorned with delicate flowers. The drink was refreshing, the bread-infused milk fragrant, and the coffee foam so smooth (not bitter at all), with one large ice cube sitting at the center cooling the drink. Everything felt intentional and the details do not go unnoticed! They also offered french toast on their collaboration menu which I didn't get a chance to try. Yes, the price is quite hefty ($14.36 including tax) for a small drink that I finished in minutes. But every time I walk into the coffee shop, I see the unique rock-themed decor, am given a small rock marked with my order number, get called to to see a beautiful presentation of my order, and enjoy the most well-crafted cup of coffee, I am reminded that coffee can be an experience and not just a drink to be consumed and forgotten the next day. Their drink menu centers around what they call before movements which is a rotating menu every so often of four different drinks. I didn't want to do the whole menu myself on this trip so I just got 'Rush'. I also got a small pastry to go with it and the sesame pastry was tasty. Monolith Coffee is one to pop up on y Reels, and I was excited to try it. The decor is aesthetic, and this cafe may be relaxing to work in during quieter hours. Visiting on a weekend afternoon might have been a mistake, though. Parking isn't too difficult to find around the block - an easy walk in a few minutes. Walking in can feel nice when empty, but when packed feels like trying to Tetris into place in a sardine can. The line wraps around the wall towards the back and is quite a squeeze; meanwhile, the pick-up is the opposite side, an equally challenging squeeze while bumping into people sitting down. While waiting, there is a menu on the wall with many exciting drinks. Being a first visit, I needed to try their iced latte. The ordering and pick-up process were easy and fun - minus the lines - and they use a little stone with a number to track orders. Finding a spot to sit even alone was hard on this weekend afternoon. This isn't the cheapest cup of coffee, but Monolith is known for aesthetics, and maybe just that. The iced latte was just a bid smoother than water, but the taste was anything but bold. It was fairly acidic and sour, but I felt it a waste to not finish after spending the money. Overall, though, the noise, the taste, and the disorderly line and crowds leaves much to be desired. The inside is super chill, I see this as an aesthetic modern space where people can either chat or do work, but I didn't see too many outlets or a crazy amount of seating Ordering is simple, service is fast it's just coffee and everything is listed out for you, not complicated. There's a self service station where you can put your used cups and dishes. Drinks and food: I got the Hojicha latte and they used whole milk. The drink was a good size for the price but the quality was alright. It was a bit watery tasting for using while milk and kinda tasted just like seaweed. I asked for a recommendation for a pastry and ended up getting the matcha and yuzu pound cake which looked pretty good. There were yuzu bits in the middle. Unfortunately the yuzu didn't taste like yuzu, there wasn't enough of the filling in the center, the flavors didn't match well, and it was overall kind of dry. Parking was ample outside on the side streets, I came on a Thursday around 1pm. There were plenty of seats and no line to order! Luckily I was able to snag 2 seats. The majority of the people there seemed to be working or catching up with friends. My husband ordered the flight for us to share. The drinks here are on the expensive side with each of the drinks in the flight ranging normally from about $10-11. Out of the 4 drinks we tried my favorite was the hojicha oat latte. The cracker and cream pairing was also very delicious. The orange espresso drink was also very refreshing although I've had similar variations of this drink at other coffee places that were more affordable. The apple drink was non caffeinated and tasty. I let my kids drink this one. The most coffee forward drink was the cold brew. This one had a very interesting savory flavor because of the bonito and kombu in it. Very cute little coffee shop, and they are definitely trying to go for a vibe. We couldn't decide if they were going for like, a stones in nature theme, or outer space. Zen or sci-fi. Not too sure. They give you a stone with a number on it that's your order. And the menu is right at the register, which gets stressful if you're at the front of the line and you're seeing the menu for the first time. We got the miso butter scone and a croissant, a hojicha latte (with the fermented rice milk) and an oatmilk cappuccino. Everything was delicious. Bit pricey though, so I concur with some of the other reviews on this bit. They were playing jazz overhead, so that's a plus. The space itself isn't super great or flowy. The coffee bar takes up a LOT of space, so people are sort of squished into the space near the entrance, which is also where people line up, so it just feels kind of constipated. There is something that's a bit like bar seating (facing a sort of rock garden, not the actual coffee bar, so the "bar" is curved), and there are two of these. Then there are maybe 3-4 small tables that you can sit at, and then a line of chairs facing the coffee bar (kind of squished alongside the bar itself). Service is very friendly. However, the whole layout of this place is super weird. It looks like the line starts towards the back and when it gets busy, the line takes a bit to move up. It doesn't look like they have enough people working? Every time someone ordered a drink, they would have to pause ordering so that they can focus on catching up on orders. It would help to have a dedicated person just to focus on ordering. The coffee and matcha were good choices, tasted great on a hot day and we loved how they served them in glass cups when you decide to have them "for here." Bougie, hipster Chinese-inspired LA coffee. This is not a "grab and go" place, but an experience and you pay for it. Two of my sisters-in-law who live in the area recommended this spot. My husband, his sisters and I ordered 1 Rift, 1 Echo, 2 Still, and one Earl Grey scone. All parts of each order complimented each other! The Rift threw me off with its bonito notes at first, but I liked it. I liked everything out of the "Still" hojicha order! The non-caffeinated Echo was good, too. We enjoyed the Earl Grey Scone with complementary spreads. This would make a great date idea or a place to catch up with a friend. Parking is pretty reasonable and the shop is spacious with lots of hipster-looking furniture. Monolith sells some merch and coffee beans. As the summer comes to a close for me, I'm happy to finally stop by this place. Immediately, the ambiance hit a home run for me. It literally feels like dining in a whole nother planet with all the floating rocks and abstract architecture. I was worried that I'd have to wait a while since I came in on a Sunday morning, but thankfully, there were only two people in front of me. I didn't want to be that person asking how the menu works since the barista took time to do so for one of the people in front of me, but the fact that they did so was a plus. All the drinks we ordered were great, but the croissant tasted like it was a day old Costco dupe. Maybe I should've warmed it up after all.
