TLDR: pricey for what it is, matcha quality isn't the best but the chai latte was the star. Came on a Saturday around 130pm, space was full of people, A/C on was blasting which was nice. My partner and I ordered the Chai Cloud and the Strawberry Rooh Matcha latte. We thought the pricing was very expensive especially since the matcha was $10. We weren't blown away by either drink. The chai cloud did have good flavor but I was confused that the drink didn't have a cream top even though the drink name has "cloud" in it. The Strawberry Rooh Matcha was interesting but not our cup of tea. We disagree with the other yelper stating it has an artificial taste, it's likely the Rooh that's foreign to us. The matcha on the other hand seemed non existent. Parking is scarce on the street and there is a parking structure that shares spots with Wells Fargo.
Mehfil is a south Asian inspired cofee/tea shop that specializes in their karak chai, but also serves coffee, matcha and assorted pastries. It is located on the corner of Lake Ave. and Green St. There are a few parking spots on the curb, and a few on Green St. (one way street). Drinks: I ordered the strawberry rooh matcha and the signature karak chai cloud. My initial impression is that the drinks were too sweet for my liking. Next time I visit, I'm ordering my drinks less sweet. The strawberry rooh matcha wasn't bad. I loved the texture and creaminess of the rooh foam. If you've ever looked up how to make chai, you would know that the chai here is made in house. The spices and flavors are stronger than your average coffee shop, which is great, but expect different if you're used to the diluted uneventful chai lattes elsewhere. Ambiance/Service: Ambiance is welcoming. There are a few tables and couch seats to sit on. Servers and baristas are friendly and I didn't have to wait long for both visits. Overall, I would recommend Mehfil but if you prefer your drinks to be less sweet, make sure you ask for less sweet. I'll try the chai cloud latte my next visit.
#199 in my Coffeeshop Chronicles. Mehfil took over where Nosy Neighbors used to be on Lake Ave in Pasadena. Mehfil is a new specialty coffeeshop that offers Indian influenced drinks. And with it's clean modern interior and comfortable seating, it's a great spot to gather and unwind. So far, I've tried their karak chai, chai cloud latte, Rooh afza latte, and Rooh afza lassi. I grew up on Southasian chai, which is generally richer in spices and flavor, so I've disliked most chais at local coffeeshops as they've always been too bland for me. Because of that, I enjoyed seeing the distinction in the chais made here. I was also excited to see that they serve lassi, a traditional Indian yogurt-based drink. It's pretty creamy but not quite as thick as a smoothie, and it was another childhood favorite growing up. Everything I've tried so far was delicious, but my favorite was definitely the karak chai, followed by the lassi. The lattes were good too though - a perfect fusion of Indian flavors with espresso for that caffeine hit. All in all, if you're looking for something different than your typical coffeeshop, given Mehfil a try. ****************** My Ratings: 1 Star: Terrible; just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars: Wasn't a fan so Not likely to return. 3 Stars: Meh. I ordered the strawberry rooh matcha for a whopping $10 & it was overly sweet & had a slight chemical or artificial taste. Couldn't taste any matcha at all. We also ordered the chai cloud & added an espresso shot, but it was also super sweet & we think the barista may have forgotten to add the espresso shot. Still giving 3 stars because the baristas were kind & the cafe had a nice vibe. Hopefully Mehfil can continue to improve since they recently opened, but unfortunately won't be returning :/ Street parking & bathroom available for customers.
My friend and I randomly stumbled upon this cafe in Pasadena for a refreshing drink and a place to get some work done and our experience here was good! This cafe specializes in serving South Asian drinks. My friend and I both had Rooh Afza Refresher with water and it was sweet and refreshing! I enjoyed the unique floral flavor of the drink combined with the basil seeds which were a fun texture. I also liked how the drink wasn't too syrupy. You can get it made with milk instead of water. However, for $8 I do think this was a bit too pricey for a flavored water drink. Regardless, it was still good. The interior is nice and clean and well air-conditioned. There's comfortable seating and lots of outlets on the benches. There's also wifi and a private bathroom available. A good find and I would want to come back to try the lassi and chai!
I found Mehfil online while looking for a cafe where I could work for the afternoon, and was immediately drawn to both the drink menu and the beautiful interior. I believe they had only been open for about a week when we visited, and I'm so glad I found them this early! Parking was easy in the free lot attached to the cafe, with street parking available as well. Inside, the space feels polished and cozy, with plenty of seating, fast Wi-Fi, and actually comfortable padded chairs (Cafes that advertise themselves as work-friendly but give you hard little stools... why lol.) We tried the Chai Cloud, Mango Lassi, and Strawberry Rooh Matcha, and every drink was a flavor bomb. Everything was so fragrant, which is exactly the kind of flavor profile I love in drinks. The Chai Cloud was creamy and aromatic, while the Mango Lassi was rich, bright, and incredibly refreshing. I genuinely couldn't decide which one was my favorite and would absolutely order both again. The Strawberry Rooh Matcha was also delicious and definitely worth trying if that's your type of drink! Everyone working here was incredibly friendly, and you can clearly tell how much care they put into their craft. I loved discovering this place and will absolutely be back, both for the drinks and the workability factor. Such a welcome addition to Pasadena!

Upon entering, I immediately smelled the spices, so I had high hopes. The space looks smaller than it is from the outside, but there are plenty of seats and tables to hang out and get work done if you wanted to. The parking situation kind of sucks since it's 1 hour street parking along Green, and spots fill up fast. As a chai connoisseur, I can confidently say that this chai is legit; it wasn't overly sweet like you'd expect from a Starbucks, Coffee Bean, or even Peet's chai, so I actually tasted the spices. Their gelato and lassi flavors intrigue me, so I'll definitely be back!

The rose which was extremely mild took over and I could not taste any cardamom or pistachio. Not even a tiny bit. There are countless desserts that balance rose, cardamom, and pistachio. The coffee makes it tricky but I do think it can be done. The service was fantastic. If I am in the are again and need to make a stop I will try the tea. I thought i was the correct market for this place but who knows. I also had a cookie, regretfully. Lastly, the printing on the cups needs an evaluation.

Sorry to be the first one to not leave a full 5 stars. Been on a strawberry matcha bender the last week so I decided to give this place a try. Idk if I got a bad batch but my matcha wasn't green lol it was grey... Photos from yelp, IG, etc. were all green. Regardless if it was ceremonial or culinary grade it'll still be green. To top it off it was really really clumpy too. It also tasted artificial. I'm a little disappointed since it's my first time here. For the price of a $10 matcha ($18 for 2 drinks) I was hoping for something a lot better than what I received. I hate throwing away money and this is how I genuinely feel about my purchase. Maybe I'll give them some time to dial it in and I'll make my way back. Don't let my review discourage you from giving this place a try. My partners latte was pretty good.
My first time visiting went absolutely amazing and I would visit again. I ordered the Chai cloud and it was the best chai based drink I've ever had. I was especially pleased to find out that the chai is made in home. The service was amazing, and the employees were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They helped me pick my order. The entire vibe of the cafe was so cozy. It's definitely a place I could see myself using to study and have a nice drink.
I was excited to try this new café in Pasadena but unfortunately, I don't think this place is gonna last more than a year with the way that things are going. They tried to charge me $11 for an iced chai which is absolutely absurd. I ended up getting the smallest product chai they had and it was still seven dollars. It's like the size of my palm .... It also took them 10 minutes to make my drink and I can understand that if the place was packed, but nobody was in there. They were unprepared and didn't have fresh chai ready to go. If this business wants to survive, I suggest they look Karak house in Laguna. The way that they operate their business is much more efficient and affordable.

Great to find a local place with actual Chai again! There used to be Chaiwale in the Old Town Proper area by us, but it left after a while. Artesia is too much of a drive for a cup , and since Yantra Kitchen is gone , we'd have to settle for Ambala (which isn't bad either!) This one has a solid Karak Chai which to me feels like a blend between Indian & Pakistani fusion flavor... We ordered one to try, but wifey claimed it for herself, we then saw someone get one "for here" in a clay mug, and we opted for a second one in that. Their disclaimer was people think it's too hot to handle, so they made it a little cooler, but I'd be ok at full temp. Nothing a napkin (or serviette for folks overseas ) can't handle. That all being said, would be awesome to get a pink Kashmiri Chai in the mix, and would love to have some more authentic snacks, (Golab Jamun, Matai, Samosas? In-addition-to/instead of just the typical pastry options). Gluten-Free options as well... I'm sad we missed the soft opening, but welcome to Old Town, and looking forward to walking over again for a delicious Clay Mug of Karak Chai! Found this hidden gem on social media! They specialize is South Asian drinks and from the moment you walk in, you will be hit with the pleasant scent on cinnamon, cardamom, and star anise. It's so lovely seeing more and more different cultural influences on the cafe culture here in Pasadena! Drink: I got the Ice Strawberry Rooh Matcha with the baseline for everything, 100% sugar, regular ice, 2% milk, etc. It was wonderful trying rooh for the first time and as someone who is a sweet tooth, it was just perfectly sweet. However, I was disappointed that the matcha flavor was not very strong and kind of disappeared along the way. However, nonetheless it was delicious with the rooh cream top as well. They also brew the Karak Chai traditionally, I liked how they will present it in a clay cup for you. Price: The Strawberry Rooh Matcha was the most expensive drink on the menu, coming in at a whopping 10 buckaroos. I cannot complain since the drink is so innovative and unique. The size was also not too small. Service: The staff were really friendly and patient. We took a while to decide our drinks since every one of them seemed delicious. Vibes: The overall cafe was really nice. I loved how homey everything felt from the moment you enter to the moment you sit down. Mehfil is a type of formal social/cultural gathering in South Asia involving artistic expressions such as dancing, singing, or poetry. And, while this may not occur at this quaint, modern chai/coffee lounge the space offers a welcoming environment where people can gather and enjoy Karak Chai, espresso drinks, lassi refreshers, and tempting baked goods. Their specialty beverages are made with Karak Chai imported from Hyderabad & ceremonial grade matcha. I arrived on a Sunday morning. Rhianna was blaring through the speakers, which made me want to dance. I was greeted by an enthusiastic Yessenia, who was happy to take my order. I decided on the Pista Elaichi Latte (Pistachio Cardamom) with almond milk. She asked if I was ok with the cloud topping. I said, "sure!" I'm not an expert with these fancy lattes and don't mind trying them as they were meant to be served. I chilled in the comfy lounge area while she prepared my beverage. The color scheme was pretty. The pink/brown combo reminded me of Neapolitan ice cream. The pink cloud topping was a little sweet. The espresso brew of the latte base was mild - not bitter or intense. The pistachio & cardamom weren't very distinct but the drink had a nice flavor profile. I found this new cafe in Pasadena and I was interested upon seeing they serve chai made in home everyday! The aesthetics of the cafe is really nice, a great spot to chill or study definitely, they also have books to grab and read! I got myself the avocado toast and strawberry rooh matcha drink which were both amazing. I loved the feta on the toast and I definitely think their matcha is worth it! The service was amazing as well, everyone working there was so sweet and incredibly helpful, I would definitely recommend stopping by the cafe if you're in the area! read more

AMAZING!! Ok so if you been to SF and ever tried Elachi co and miss the vibes in Socal, this place is gonna take you back. Really good chai (tried both as latte and hot karak) the flavors are really there,- cardamom, cloves, ginger and amazing tea flavor. My brother tried Pista Elachi Latte and really loved it as well though the pista flavor could be stronger. Great service as well, the owner is really nice and kind. The vibes are amazing with modern aesthetic and clean environment. Great for studying/chilling/hanging out in the area. Highly recommend and hope they never change the taste because its our go to spot in the Pasadena/valley area as its really hard to find coffee spots that are comparatively good as ktown cafes. Also can find parking on the street, we went on the weekends twice and found parking easily. Overall really like this place. read more

Definitely a new study spot, the ambiance is great and there's plenty of space. Also really like how there's AC, a big plus especially in the summer. The staff is super welcoming and attentive. The drinks are equally as good. I had both their iced matcha and mango lassi. I highly recommend both, especially the mango lassi!! Will definitely come back again! read more

This is a new cafe that just opened up in Pasadena. The cafe has a really nice vibe going on inside, their matcha is amazing (coming from a matcha hater), their staff is really sweet and communicative as well! I would definitely recommend. read more

Just got the pistachio latte and it's shockingly good. I normally don't care for floral/citrusy flavors so I was apprehensive about the cardamom.... but it was delicious and didn't taste like soap at all haha. Honestly 10/10 read more

What a cool new cafe! I loved that they have options other than coffee and tea - I wanted something cold for the heat and their Rooh Afzah Refresher was delicious and beautiful. It was like a floral taste, hard to describe but definitely unique if you're looking for something different! It's in a really good location and there's 3 dedicated parking spots for customers in the parking structure behind. The staff was really nice and the cafe was clean with table and lounge seats. I also had the EVOO lemon muffin and that was fantastic as well, not too sweet and a good portion. I'll definitely be back! read more
