They were having a promotion for the members where some of their drinks were buy one get one half off. We got the Uji Matcha Boba MIlkTea or 宇治抹茶黑式. We upgraded the drinks to large size for 75 cents each. Got 50% sweetness. Felt the sweetness level was alright. The bobas were too sweet. Would asked to not put bobas next time. Got the mango pomelo sago for the kids (replaced the tea with water). The cashier was nice enough to point out the drink contains tea if I wanted to get that for the kids. I came back for their Mother's Day BOGO deal and got the da hong pao boba milk tea. The milk tea was pretty decent and tasted like a standard black milk tea brewed from actual tea leaves. Staff interaction felt brief, but I appreciated how Staff attempted to greet new customers. My drink took three minutes and 40 seconds. Good time! As mentioned, I enjoyed the Mango Pomelo Sago ($6.95). The mango tasted fresh. The crystal boba had a light, playful bounce. And the drink is silky, chill, and smooth. I felt the urge to scream in joy bubble up as I sip. "SO GOOD!!" Regarding ambiance, Ben Gong's Tea (San Gabriel) is very clean and attractive. It's a pretty, calming spot. There's six tables and one long counter; there's even an outside patio with extra seating. However, there's ZERO electrical outlets for customers. There's none inside, and the outside outlets by the patio do not work. Still, Ben Gong's Tea (San Gabriel) has utility. There's customer internet with password; the details are written on a tiny paper taped onto the counter's register. There's also a game station (ex: Monopoly, Jenga, Uno, Etc.) for customers! The location also has a gender neutral restroom. And the music is fun & upbeat! Overall, I had a phenomenal experience at Ben Gong's Tea (San Gabriel). I ordered the Peach Oolong Milk Tea with Cream Top. Actually tried it twice at 50% and 75% sweetness. I usually get 50% at most places but recommend 75% for this particular drink to get a good balance of sweetness and the taste of the tea. What makes this place exceptionally good is their use of actual tea that is fresh ground, made and served. We bought 5 teas and will rate them in order with 1 as the least and 10 as the best. 1). Mango Pomelo Slush (no tea but made with Coconut Milk and a little milk for the topping). No changes are allowed on this drink. Rate it an 8.5 2). Burnt Brown Sugar Boba Milk we adjusted it to 50% and we should have left it at 100% because this place makes their teas not too sweet. Rate it a 6 because we adjusted it, I am sure if we left it alone it would be an 8 as well. 3). Mango Mochi Slush at 50% sugar rate it an 8-9 very good. 4). Black Rice Milk Tea adjusted sugar to 30% it was good, but I should also have left it alone as is. We tried their Ube and Pandan cookie for $4.50 and they were deliciously soft and tasty. The space here is a clean and classy meat up for 2-3 friends and not so much of a study area. It gets very busy as we heard the constant pinging of orders coming in. However, the employees were professional, served all drinks well and constantly busy. Give them a tip because they work so hard. read more

This place is located on Valley Blvd. in the city of San Gabriel. East of Del Mar Ave and West of San Gabriel Blvd. This is a fairly new boba place in the 626 among the hundreds of boba store in the area. I drove past the area tonight so decided to give this place a try. There are street parking in the front and a shared parking lot with a couple other businesses in the back. I would say there's at least 15-20 available in the whole park in the back. I went at night when it was about to close and it was quiet at that time so not sure how busy it is during the day. When I walked in, a lady server greeted me and directed me to the front counter to order my drink. Then a guy names Wei came and assisted me. I asked him for his recommendation on milk tea and he provided some information. So far so good until I asked about boba. The lady server said they are out of boba. I asked him what other toppings they have and she named some. The guy server named Wei that was taking my order showed me on the screen. I asked him again if the brown sugar boba is out and he said they are out of all bobas. I asked crystal boba? And he said they are just out of boba. I was thinking "do you even know what you are talking about" because the things he said was confusing and he sounded impatient when all I asked was to make sure the boba part. He doesn't speak clearly and he started getting impatient and speaking fast. That killed the whole experience. I ordered a peach oolong milk tea with crystal boba and it was pretty good. We just needed to grab a boba before leaving the area, but this was such a find! We got the Osmanthus Rice Milk Tea, and we really grew to love it with each progressive sip. I came here during their grand opening weekend when they were running the BOGO promotion. I've been to the Arcadia location in the past and the drinks didn't impress me at all. I didn't want to mess with the sugar level because when I looked up my older review of the Arcadia location I mentioned that our tea was kinda tasteless. Lychee tea latte: this one was actually not bad. But regular sugar was definitely way too sweet for me. A 25-50% probably would've been better but I'm not sure if it would end up tasting like water at that point? I do agree with other reviewers that say their milk teas taste very milky. Passionfruit super fruit cup: once again it was way too sweet but also I couldn't taste any tea flavor at all. Mostly just fruit juice or syrup flavor. We ended up brewing our own jasmine tea at home and mixed it in and the drink tasted so much better. Overall, drinks were still underwhelming. After hearing about a new Ben Gong's Tea location in SGV that is offering opening specials, I decided to check it out. It turns out that they replaced another boba store that closed down not too long ago. I have been to a different location before which I enjoyed and I was hoping that this location would meet those same expectations. Unfortunately, this specific location was disappointing. I ordered the classic Mango Pomelo Sago drink, which they don't allow you to adjust the sweetness and ice levels for. The pomelo was extremely bitter, while the mango tasted almost flavorless. As for the sago, there was barely any of it in the drink. They advertised online that there would be scratch tickets for the first 100 customers during grand opening weekend. However, when I asked about it after making my purchase, they said that it was only for the soft opening weekend. One promotion that they are doing is that you can get a small gift charm for writing them a good Google or Yelp review. Hence, the reason they currently have so many good reviews right now. The staff that I interacted with gave off cold and unwelcoming vibes. I am not a fan of their shady marketing tactics and I do not see myself revisiting this location when there are so many better boba shops nearby. read more

My partner saw that a Ben Gongs was opening nearby in SGV and decided to check out their grand opening. We arrived at 11:30 AM right at their opening hours to avoid the long lines but there were already some people inside which was not bad. We ordered in about 10 minutes or so and waited about 15 minutes for our two drinks. We ordered the Mango Pomelo Sago & the BOGO deal has to be the same drink in order for the promotion to be applied. To acquire the free scented charm, you have to leave a review which is a bit deceiving for anyone visiting for the first time. The Mango Pomelo Sago we ordered were average at best. Other shops I've visited have better tasting drinks, felt like there wasn't much sago in the drink & the pomelo was way too bitter to be in the drink. You're also unable to adjust any sugar level or ice level per the staff which I found pretty odd. Overall, still drinkable but it wasn't the greatest drink. I would however visit again to try their other menu items like their milk teas, etc. We also saw that in their promotion on Instagram that each purchase comes with a free scratch card for their grand opening Oct 3 - 5 that provides a chance to win various prizes but when we received our drinks and asked for it, the staff said it's for their grand opening only....which is odd because we visited on Oct 5 which is still their grand opening. Massive misinformation by Ben Gong which I'm not a fan of. They also have two self order kiosk on standby but wasn't operational. Came for their grand opening BOGO deal right when they opened so the wait time was about 20min. Staff was nice at the registar. There is limited seating inside with a pretty decorative tree in the middle. Ambiance with pop music in the background. I got the osmanthus rice milk tea ($6) and large size (+$0.75) at half sugar and less ice. The tea taste authentic with just enough creaminess from the milk. It comes with some kind of jelly or crystal boba which was unexpected. The floral taste from the osmanthus is quite strong. read more
