This was my first time stepping into Total Wine & More. It was beautiful, haha. I felt like I was in a candy store, but for alcohol. Parking is shared with Vroman's Bookstore, and there is also street parking as well. I recently visited a wine bar and fell in love with a type of Moscato. I searched online to see where the bottle was sold and saw that they are sold at this place. I placed an online order and set it for pickup at 6pm. I received a text message saying that my order was ready for pickup at 5:30pm (which was perfect because I was already on my way to that location and was going to be early). There was a big sign that said "Online Order" in the corner of the store, but there wasn't anyone there, so I went to one of the checkout lines. They said I need to go to the Online order area, and when I was about to say "no one was there", I saw someone walk into the area. They asked me to open up the link, click on the "curbside" and I heard their machine go ping and he grabbed my order. The worst experience ever. I came inside to look at the bottles looking for a Father's Day gift. I was roaming around the store got approached once said no thank you. Continued looking and I got approached again at the bourbon place, I decided to leave that section and go towards the tequila section where I was approached AGAIN by a group of workers the older gentlemen "do you need finding any good tequila" which I laughed at and said no thank you and took a picture to show my boyfriend. I was approached AGAIN by a different younger men that asked "are you looking for anything in particular" tried to make conversation by offering me a tequila which I replied to again "no thank you, okay thank you so much" which he left and another person passed by in the back while I was taking pictures. till FINALLY a white young lady with curly hair in a pony tail approached me "can I help you find anything" and I didn't even glance at her just said "no thank you" and left the store. Friendly and very knowledgeable staff. Bad enough I'm like a kid in the candy store standing in front of whiskey but spent about 20 minutes discussing flavors and brands and trying to find something new to sample with one of the employees. Then the wife turns the corner with a 12 of Widnmer Hefeweizen that we've been looking for for a while. Her twelve and my old Par and we two happy campers on the way to enjoy the weekend. I had a great experience at the Pasadena Total Wine. I actually called ahead of time to make sure they had what I was looking for, and the cashier who picked up the phone was super helpful and polite (I didn't catch her name, but she made a great first impression before I even walked in). Once I got to the store, I knew I wanted a bottle of Lagavulin 16. While I was looking around the aisle, Jonathan approached me in a casual but professional way -- not pushy at all, just genuinely helpful. I mentioned that I was restocking my four decanters at home, and he did an excellent job guiding me through some options. I left with the Lagavulin I came for, plus Bar Hill Gin, Wild Turkey 8 Year, and Knob Creek Single Barrel Rye. The bourbon and rye were his recommendations, and they were perfect picks, while the gin and scotch were the bottles I had in mind already. Jonathan's product knowledge and customer service really stood out, and paired with the great service on the phone, this visit was top-notch from start to finish. Been here once or twice over the years. The store is large and things can be hard to find. The people here are fairly friendly, but are definitely helpful. Just ask if u can't find what r looking for. Sometimes they are out of specialty items, but can usually order them for you in a reasonable amount of time. The store is clean and well lit. The lot is big but gets crowded. Be careful, other customers can be rude in the lot. Aside from parking, a good shopping experience and a good place to find something you can't get in the grocery store. Why so much hassle? This should not be so complicated. I also like how TW regularly responds to Yelp reviews, but not mine. So not only do I not warrant reasonable treatment when I tried to return a defective product, I apparently don't even deserve a response to my review. TW is dead to me. BevMo gets my business from now on. Original Review 10/19: I made my usual purchase of 4 Bombay Sapphires (1.75 liters) in June. 3 of the 4 bottles turned out to be cheap vodka. Some production glitch. I saved the bottles and returned today to pick up my new order. I didn't want to make a special trip just to get a refund on bad Bombay gin. I assumed management would refund without any hassle. Nope. Ryan was the manager. He seemed to doubt my story from the start. I don't know why. Maybe I look shady. I explained that I'd never had a problem with any earlier purchases. I'd never tried to return any product in the last 7 yrs or so. Still he was skeptical. I have no idea why. I know what Bombay tastes like. This was not Bombay Sapphire. They should take my word for it. I have no track record of trying to scam Total Wines. Ryan the manager finally offered me 25% off. That's about $8 off for each $32 bottle. That means I'd have to pay $72 for 3 bottles of cheap vodka. That's not what I bought. I told him that wasn't good enough. I can buy cheap 1.75 liter vodkas for $11. That's what this was. I bought Bombay not cheap vodka for a reason. I'm frustrated, angry and disgusted with this customer service. Almost every other retailer would immediately refund me without question. Most retailers don't even require or want you to bring in or ship back the defective product: TJ's, Chewy's, et al. And I don't like having my honesty questioned w/out any reason. My word should have been enough. And mostly, I don't like not getting what I paid for. What Ryan should have done is replace those 3 bottles w/out question. They can deal with the producer to get their money back. I'd bet an entire batch was not properly "seasoned" and many bottles have been returned at this and other retailers. The batch# is on each bottle. I kept questioning him to get SOME explanation for his decision but he never provided one. Then he accused me of being unreasonable because I wouldn't respect his authoritay by accepting his low-ball refund offer. Listen: Because you're the mgr and you say so doesn't justify your decision. This low-ball offer was not fair. Not even close. And your unwarranted suspicion of me and my return was completely unprofessional and insulting. I was sold Bombay Sapphire but the product was actually cheap vodka. If that isn't a clear case of a refundable purchase, i don't know what is. The fact that they wouldn't immediately and without question refund my money speaks volumes about the integrity of this store. If there was some GOOD REASON why they could not refund me, tell me. Ryan did not. That speaks volumes about his ability to do his job. Any competent mgr would have been able and willing to explain why he was not fully refunding me. His response showed an unreasonable disdain and distrust for me. I will definitely NOT be going to Pasadena Total Wines ever again. I recently attended the 'A Wine Tour of Italy' event at the Pasadena Total Wine, and as always, Denise was exceptional. This wasn't our first time attending one of her sessions, and her incredible knowledge and ability to engage a room still go well beyond expectations. The presentation was meticulously prepared, featuring gems like the Cornuvio Pinot Grigio, Donnachiara Greco di Tufo, Rocca Felice Nebbiolo d'Alba, and the St. Giorgio Brunello di Montalcino. The experience didn't end with the class, though. Denise was incredibly helpful afterward as we picked out a few bottles to take home--which came as no surprise to us. We have been loyal clients of this store since we moved to the area, and Denise actually curated the wine selection for our wedding last year. Our guests absolutely loved every single bottle she recommended! It is rare to find someone so genuinely dedicated to their craft. Browsed around for a few different wines, beers, and other spirits. There is plenty of variety here to choose from across the world and locally too. The selection is very vast and there are also some small necessities too like bottle stoppers, cups, and other miscellaneous items that work well with the drinks. They do offer samples as well but bring your ID as they require that to sample and purchase. When you are at the register, they card everyone to make sure you are all of legal drinking age. In the back of the store is also an experience room where people can attend a course about certain wines and other interesting cultural spirit topics. They have a private parking lot for customers. This is a huge plus this part of town. Street parking is only an hour and is hard to find. The lot was crowded, but we still found a spot They have bathroom sin back that are clean. Samples were plentifully when we went. They were featuring hard cola and seltzer at separate tables/companies. They also had their own wine tasting for 1 cent. Wine is separated by region and then in alphabetical order. This makes it easy to locate your favorites. They had a great variety of wine in the 90-97 category and with all different price points. The cheese selection was limited. They only sell Boars Head. They do have several varieties. We bought 2. My favorite was the smoked Gouda. They are limited on the cracker selection. They had water crackers and artesian crackers. They have distinct sections for beer, wine, liquor/spirits, non-alcoholic, snacks, and soft drinks. This location even has a fumador for cigars. Every so often, they have wine tasting at the centralized part of the store, and the staff is phenomenal. Warning! This store is suspected of price fraud. Check your receipt every time!!! Beware! This store might be scamming you - the tag says $48, but they charge $53. When you ask for a refund, manager Liz tells you to "change your tone." I've bought wine here four times since November without being asked for ID. The Penfolds 389 looks $5 cheaper than Costco, but you actually pay $53, not $48. Mistakes happen, but when you point it out, they say you should've noticed sooner. I trusted them, so I never checked receipts until I caught this by accident. I told them it wasn't my fault, which annoyed Liz. She told me to "change your tone," so I said, "You first." She wanted to "start over," but still wouldn't refund the overcharge. When I tried to take a photo of the price tag, it was gone - Liz is efficient, I'll give her that. Where does Liz get the audacity to talk to customers like that? It's rude. They overcharge $5 per bottle, then demand you "change your tone" instead of apologizing? It feels like being back in China, where consumers are treated like "leeks" to be repeatedly harvested. I wonder, Liz, am I the first one you've told to "change your tone"? Do you always get away with this? I don't have photos from November, but when ABC checks, I hope you can prove you ask for IDs for every alcohol purchase. I needed some special liqueurs and found them. They even carry some selections in smaller bottles. The prices are better than the grocery stores. Popped in for a brew or two and to browse the selections as always. The Total Wine of Pasadena is a reliable one on Historic Route 66, also known as Colorado Blvd on this part of the route. You can find parking in the lot just down Oak Knoll Ave or even the lot for Vroman's Bookstore just next door off El Molina Ave and Colorado. Get greeted and treated to solid service, samples if they're pouring and incredible deals. Wine is stocked to the max with an easy layout from Domestic to German to Argentinian to French and every country, varietal and state in-between. For some reason this location isn't allowed to carry 50ml bottles or so we were told which is something I like to stalk up on but my close buddy Art loves them for gifts as well as for baking. We did find some seasonal craft beer and some of the things we tried at the Vroman's Wine & Beer Bar next door. It was really cool to see a ton of local products from breweries, distilleries and wineries carried here though not as interesting of a selection as my go to Total in Woodland Hills. Even if you plan on getting one or two things... A shopping cart over a basket is a high recommendation as someone else mentioned. Ended up leaving with a boxes worth of things like Danny Trejo's Hard Seltzer in the fridge which gets shopped hard... It was pretty smooth flavored seltzer, but much more of an acquired taste than others I've tried. If you're a person with a disability that may prevent inclining and declining it does seem like entering from Colorado is much easier as the back parking lots are a little funky in design, which is more of a shopping center design flaw than Total Wine alone. We asked for a local whiskey to try and the associate pointed out a couple different California brands. A few of my friends and I went to shop for some new ingredients to make cocktails at home and enjoy our evening. The worker there came to speak to us and he asked if we were bartenders, through conversation we said yes we work in the industry and were looking for some new things to go home and make drinks and have a lovely time with friends.
